Prologue
The lights in the park flickered in time with the uneven sounds of concussive impacts. A streak of white and black zipped around, confusing it's target by the fountain. Desiree, the wishing ghost, had just about had it with the annoying blur flying around her.
"I'll catch you yet, Phantom!" She screamed in annoyance before a fist collided with her cheek. The impact caused her to stumble and fall into the water. Desiree burst from the fountain, screaming a shrill war cry. "You dare humiliate me?! I'll make you beg for mercy!"
"Oh, I dare," the streak taunted as it flew by again, narrowly dodging a swing from Desiree's hand which had been shaped into a hammer. The figure came to a stop a ways away and gave Desiree her first good look at her opponent. "And Dani Phantom bows to no one!" Danielle pulled her hands back and charged a powerful ecto energy blast.
Desiree took the opportunity to ready an attack of her own. "I'll wipe you from the face of the earth!" Her hands formed into a giant axe above her head which she quickly brought down towards Danielle.
Danielle, realizing her predicament, stopped charging her ecto ray and used the energy to try and form a shield instead. But the energy dissipated before it could fully form. "Oh crud." She closed her eyes, waiting for the impact.
"NOOOOO!" Suddenly Danielle was enveloped in a protective hug as she and her savior flew into the shrubs on her left. They crashed into the ground, but the hand on her head prevented her from really feeling the impact. As they came skidding to a halt, she cracked an eye open, and her vision was filled with the same logo she had on her chest. She let her eyes travel upward to see the panicked look on her cousin's face.
Danny quickly stood, picking her up off the ground. "Are you alright? Are you hurt," he asked as he pulled away and looked her over for injuries.
"Danny!" Danielle smiled and tackled him, grabbing him in a crushing bear hug. "I've been looking all over for you!" Danny smiled down at her, wrapping his arms around her in return. Danielle's smile fell though as she let him go and floated up so they were eye level. "I've got some bad news. I was on my way to find you when my ghost sense went off and I ran into-"
She was cut off as Desiree advanced on them, screaming "You won't get away from me, child!"
"Oh, right. That," Danielle finished. She turned toward Desiree, who was advancing on them quickly and dropped into a fighting stance. "Well, two against one should make this a little easier."
Danny put a hand on her shoulder, silently letting her know to back off. Danielle looked up at him confused. "Hold on, let me handle this." He flew up to Desiree's eye level, forcing her to focus on him instead of Danielle. "Desiree, why are you here?"
"Perfect, now you're here too," Desiree sighed. "Oh great bridger of worlds," she said, voice dripping with sarcasm. "I need not explain myself to you. My wrath is not pointed at you today, but at the pest behind you." Danielle smiled awkwardly and waved. "Move aside and after I kill her, I'll be on my way."
Danny held up his thermos and shook it in her face. "Look we can do this the easy way, or the cramped way. You can either go back to the Ghost Zone on your own, or I can send you back in this. Your choice." He stared her down, waiting for her to decide. "We both know I can just wish you in here anyway."
Desiree stared him down for a minute, weighing her options. He was right that in a fight with an opponent who knew of such a crippling weakness she would have no chance. On the other, the one time she had come to the human world with no malicious intent, she was immediately attacked for it. Finally, she sighed and shrunk to her normal size. "Very well, Phantom. I will leave peacefully," she said. She glared at Danielle once more over Danny's shoulder before she turned and flew back to Fenton works. "And tell the welp not to attack ghosts who are minding their own business!" She yelled over her shoulder.
Danielle stared in awe at him, amazed at how he handled the situation. She floated up to him, transforming to her human form and dropping to the ground. "How'd you do that," she asked.
Danny changed back as well and smiled down at her. "She grants people's wishes because she never had a choice in what happened to her when she was alive. Giving her a choice to be peaceful will usually calm her down." Then he remembered what Danielle had said to him earlier and his face turned serious. "So, you said you had bad news?"
Danielle's face turned serious once again as she faced her cousin. "I do. It's Vlad. He's back."
A/N: Hello everyone! This story will be following up on the continuity of the "A Glitch in Time" comic. If you haven't read it, then I suggest you do so before continuing this story as it will have major spoilers for the ending including a new status quo. For anyone that reads beyond this point without having read the comic, you may be lead to believe this is an AU story. This is why I strongly suggest reading the comic first. As for this story, the family aspect won't be taking place until later, as I want to properly set up all the pieces and lead into it in the most natural way possible. As you may have guessed, this story was inspired by Blak-Ice's story "1 Human Plus 2 Halfas Equals a Family" and it's spinoffs, which, although incomplete as of writing this, is another story that I highly recommend checking out. Anyway, chapter 1 will be releasing shortly.
