(Starting off with a short chapter to mostly gauge interest to see if I should continue. Any and all comments are welcome)

Karit lay sprawled out on the beach like an X. Beneath the shade of a palm tree, and with her toes buried in the cool sand she was drifting down into sleep when something bonked twice between her eyes.

"Damnit, old man." Without opening her eyes, she reached up and swatted the end of the Turtle Hermit's cane. "How did you find me anyway?"

"After training you for the past year, the only thing you seem to have put effort into learning is how to suppress your power level, all so you can sneak away and avoid your lessons. But you haven't learned yet to maintain that in your sleep."

Sitting up, Karit opened her eyes and looked up at her teacher standing over her. He was a short, bald man with a long white beard wearing a turtle shell on his back.

"I still don't see why I'm the one that got picked for all of this. It's hard, it's stupid, and I hate it." Karit crossed her arms.

"Your Great-grandfather has taken a special interest in you. You're the first in your lineage to be born with a tail in four hundred years. I told him that I'd have you whipped into shape by the next Budokai. You're not ready, Karit."

Karit stood up and wiped the sand off the seat of her orange gi.

"Pfft, Like I care what some old man I never met thinks. Anyway, He's not my great-grandfather. He's like my great-great-great-great…" Karit started holding up her fingers as she tried to recall just how "great" this supposed grandfather was before she got bored and trailed off. "Anyway, I'm already strong."

The Turtle Hermit shook his head and walked down the beach away from Karit, relying heavily on his cane for support. As though he were instantly erased from existence, he vanished in a fraction of an eye blink. Understanding what was coming, Karit moved to put her guard up, but she was much too slow. The old man reappeared behind the youngster. She just had time to register the shadow looming behind her and turn ninety degrees before his palm collided with her side with battering ram force. Her lungs withered within her chest as all air went out of her. The impact was so significant that it sent her flying over thirty meters back. Twin ruts were left in the sand from her feet dragging through them. When she hit the ocean, she skipped along the surface like a stone, even punching through two waves before the momentum relented, and she sank below the water.

It took a solid minute for Karit to recover, gather herself, and swim back to the shore. Cold and soggy, she climbed and took three steps onto the beach before collapsing to her knees, panting heavily.

"D-damn you, Krillin!"

From his pocket, Krillin pulled out a scouter. After affixing it to the side of his head, he pushed the button. By this point, the device was way beyond being an antique. But thanks to routine maintenance from Capsule Corp, it still functioned. He tapped the activation button on the side, and the heads-up display in the eyepiece targeted his young student. The scouter chirped as it scanned the young fighter.

Krillin sighed when the number it displayed read "20."

Not caring what her teacher was doing, Karit let out a yell. She rushed at him so fast as to leave a cloud of sand in her wake. She threw a flurry of punches at Krillin, intending to put him in the ocean. It was simple for him to block each clumsy blow with his staff. When she went for a leg sweep, Krillin leaped into the air and then floated upward.

Gathering her hands behind her, a ball of blue light appeared in Karit's cupped hands.

"Ka-Me-Ha-Me…"

As Krillin watched through the scouter's eyepiece, the number climbed steadily higher, 30... 50… 70… finally reaching 79.

"Ha!" Karit flung her hands out in front of her. Rather than the signature beam of energy that the Turtle School is known for, the ball expanded rapidly before exploding with tremendous force. The ki bomb sent sand outward in all directions. Even through the obstruction, the scouter registered Karit's power level, which plummeted down to the 20 that it started at.

After the dust and smoke cleared, Krillin found a barely conscious Karit smoldering in the crater that was left behind. He waited until she was able to open her eyes.

Krillin sighed and poked his pupil in the stomach with the end of his cane. "Are you ready for that lesson now?"

"Yeah, okay."
