Chapter 4
The next morning, I trudged down the stairs yawning into my hand. I hadn't slept really well the night before, due to more nightmares. This time the nightmares were more about the Sons, and they didn't accept me. Emma, Anton, and Niall were all up and eating breakfast at the table. Emma smiled at me as I came into the dining room. "Good morning, Savvy," she greeted me. "There's food in the microwave for you."
"Morning Em," I yawned as I got the plate of food out and sat down at the table. "Thanks."
"No problem," she replied. "So, what's the plan today?"
I shrugged at her question. "I'm not sure. I think that I'll just clean my guns today. Maybe go and try to talk to my family again."
"Well, if you ever need to get away, you're more than welcome to come over with Eric and I," Niall offered. Eric was Niall's husband that helped as the medic of the Hell Cats.
"I'll be sure to remember that," I agreed with a smile. Then I turned to Emma and Anton. "What about you two? What are you doing today?"
"We were thinking about doing some house hunting," Anton answered. "We want to have a home by the end of the week."
I nodded to them as I ate. "That sounds like a plan, but most of the houses that are available are going to need fixing."
"Well, no pain, no gain, right?" Emma joked, and we all laughed a little at her joke.
We finished eating and I was doing the dishes while Emma and Anton got ready for the day. Niall even got ready and came to help me with the dishes. Both of us had just finished the dishes when the doorbell went off. I went over to the door, whipping my hands on a dish towel, and went over to open the door. Opening it up, I stopped short at seeing my older twin brother, Opie, standing on the porch.
"Hey," he greeted awkwardly, and he shifted his weight nervously.
"Hey," I replied in slight shock. "What's up?"
At that point, Emma and Anton came down the stairs and saw us standing there. "Hey, we're gonna head out, okay?" Emma informed me, knowing that I needed some alone time with my brother. "Niall, come with us!"
Niall came out of the kitchen about to protest but stopped when he saw my brother. "Uh, yeah, let me grab my shoes."
As he got his shoes, I motioned for Opie to come inside. Opie walked inside hesitantly, and Emma gave me a quick hug before following her husband and Niall out the door. I closed the door behind them, taking a deep breath through my nose, and turned to my brother with an awkward smile. "Do you wanna beer?" I asked him.
"Sure," he replied, and I motioned for him to follow me to the kitchen. "I see that Niall and the others haven't left yet."
I smiled lightly at his protectiveness. "Yeah well, Emma and Anton will be sticking around," I explained to him as I got a beer out and twisted the cap off. "Emma loves small towns, and she wants to be close, so she and her husband are looking at houses today. Niall wants to stay at least another week for my nightmares to subside before leaving. Puma already went back home to England last night."
"And she's cool with you staying in the house?" Opie questioned as he took a drink. "And are you sure Niall is only here for that?"
"Niall is gay, Opie," I chuckled as he looked shocked. "Niall has helped me though my nightmares when they were at their worst, so he just wants to help. As for Puma, she had me sign the deed to the place. So, technically, it's my house. She bought it as a home coming present."
"So, you are staying?" he asked in a whisper as he put his hands on the island between us, leaning on it.
I smiled softly at him and reached across the island to put my hand on his. "Harry, you can't scare me away," I told him, using his real name. I wanted him to know that I was serious. "I have waited ten years to come back. I told you before that I'm not going anywhere."
Opie nodded and took another drink of his beer. "So, why does Emma wanna stay close?"
I smiled at that. "Since Emma and I met, we haven't really been separated at all, not even on missions. The longest that we've ever been separated is when I came here a few months ago."
"What did you do for them?" Opie asked after a hesitant silence.
"I was a sniper with Emma," I answered him with a small smile, thinking back on a few memories. "A lot of the time, we would switch being the sniper and the spotter."
Opie heaved a heavy sigh with his shoulders dropping as he leaned against the counter. "I'm really trying to understand Sav, I really am. I just don't know how to differentiate between you now and that girl from ten years ago."
I sighed at that. "You just have to get to know me again brother. That's all there is. I'm sure that there are things that I don't know about you."
Opie smiled at me. "Yeah, I'm sure there are. How about we start with twenty questions?"
I laughed. "Isn't that a kid's game?"
"Maybe," he chuckled. "But we both have to get to know each other again somehow. This is the easiest way."
I smiled at him and nodded. We spent the next hour or so playing twenty questions and getting to know each other again.
*Coming Home*
Three Months Later
"Come on Sav," Anton called to me. "Keep your center."
It had been three months since my family found out about me being a former mercenary. Niall went back to Ireland after the first week, still insisting that if I needed to get away that I could come to him. Anton and Emma found a house close by, but it needed a lot of work, so they were still staying at my house. Anton would work on it as much as they could because he got a job as a part-time mechanic. Emma would help out in the office but was mostly helping keeping up the bar in the clubhouse.
Currently, Emma and I were sparing in the ring that the clubhouse had. I had asked Clay if we would be able to use it. Anton was watching and calling out certain tips. Emma threw a punch at me, and I ducked under her arm, flipping her over my shoulder. Emma swung her body around to swipe my legs and I jumped back to avoid it.
Emma came back at me, and I spun her arm behind her back. I held it there as she tried to get out, but eventually tapped her shoulder to show she gives up. I let go and chuckled as she stretched out her arm and shoulder.
"How are you still good at hand-to-hand when you've been out for months?" she inquired with disbelief.
I shrugged as we climbed down from the ring. "It's always come naturally. And if you think that I haven't been training, you are sorely mistaken."
"Yeah, I am sore," she joked.
We shared a laugh before someone cleared their throat. We looked towards the lot and found most of the Sons staring at us. I smiled at them as I grabbed my towel and put it around my neck. "Morning guys," I greeted.
"Morning sis," Opie replied. "What's going on here?"
I took a drink from my water bottle before answering. "Emma and I were sparing to keep in shape. I asked Clay if we could use it. Just because I'm out of the game, that doesn't mean I'll let my skills get rusty."
Some of the boys nodded at that. My eyes lingered a little on Happy, who stared right back at me. The past three months, the both of us were getting to know each other better. He would come over to my house and we would hang out. He took me on our first date last month. We had dinner before taking me on a ride on his motorcycle up to the streams. Sitting under the stars, we spoke a lot about what our lives have been like.
The both of us agreed that it would be better if we kept our relationship a secret until my family was better understanding of the situation. We've been on a few dates since then. We also laid ground rules for when he's not in Charming. I'm not with anyone else but him, and he doesn't go anywhere near croweaters or sweetbutts. That includes blowjobs. I always had an issue with that run rule. To me cheating was cheating no matter what state it was, and there was always the possibility of one of them getting bold and following him.
"Hey, Sav," Anton called, and I looked over to see his arm was around Emma's waist. Both of them had certain smiles that I had seen before. "We're gonna head back to the house."
I nodded before pointing to them. "Oi. Lock the door this time," I told them seriously.
Emma blushed heavily while Anton laughed. "Will do," he agreed as he picked up Emma's gym bag, taking her hand and leading her to their car.
The Sons all looked confused as they left and turned to me as I sighed. "I'll just take a shower here then," I muttered as I walked over to my gym bag.
"What was that about?" Tig asked curiously. "Why lock the door to your house?"
I huffed. "I meant the bedroom door. Anton gets worked up when he sees Emma fight." A look of understanding passed over everyone's faces. "A couple of people on the team have walked in on them. They barely remember to lock the door."
"Well, that must be awkward," Jax chuckled.
"You have no idea," I muttered. I began to unwrap my hands as Tig approached me. I raised an eyebrow when he glanced behind him at the others. When he turned back to me, he jumped at seeing my expression and my hand on my hip. "Something I can help you with Tiggy?"
He stared at my expectant look and sighed. "Fuck it," he muttered. "The nicknames that you guys introduced yourselves with. What's up with that?"
I raised an eyebrow. "You mean like yours, Alexander?"
"Touché," Tig shrugs. "But seriously, what's with them?"
I sighed. "Puma's husband, Chase, is a former Marine. A lot of things about the Hell Cats were changed when he joined. We all have call signs in order to protect our identities on a job."
"What determines your call names?" Jax asked with a curious look. "Do you pick it?"
"No, the team picks your call name," I answered as I unwrapped my other hand. "And it could be anything. Could be how you look, how the others see you, where you're from, or any number of things really."
"So, what was yours?" Kyle asked.
I looked over at him as I dropped my wrappings in my bag. Something about Kyle made my skin crawl. I knew that he was married and had a kid with another on the way. But he would flirt heavily with me despite that. I would see him taking croweater after croweater back to his dorm. I kept having to turn him down, but I wasn't sure that was going to deter him.
"Sav?" Jax called when I stayed silent and turned back to my bag. I glanced at him from the corner of my eye. He gave me a stern look. "We heard everyone else's. We just didn't hear yours."
I sighed heavily, letting my breath out slowly. "Mayhem," I muttered.
Everyone looked confused. "What?" Chibs asked.
I sighed again before raising my voice. "My call name was Mayhem. Happy now?"
I watched as everyone exchanged looks with each other. Opie went to say something, but I cut him off as I closed my gym bag. "I didn't choose it, remember? And only three of the team knew about all of you when it was chosen." I turned to the boys as I picked up my bag and threw it over my shoulder. "The name had nothing to do with you guys. It had to do with the way that I fight and shoot. I was a sniper. So, when someone gets shot everything else is thrown into chaos."
I then shrugged my shoulders when they gave me sympathetic looks. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I need a shower and I'll meet you guys in the garage."
Walking past them, I went inside and to the dorm room that I was able to keep. Luckily, it had an attached bathroom that I could use. I was able to leave quite a few pairs of shirts, pants, and undergarments in the room for when I wanted to stay there. I pulled out a pair of dark wash jeans and a black SAMCRO t-shirt and laid them out on the bed. I then grabbed a black bra and panty set before going into the bathroom.
I took a quick shower, only really standing under the spray for a little bit. After washing my hair, I turned the water off and got out. I towel dried my hair and dried off with another before putting on my bra and panties.
I walked out of the bathroom to see Happy sitting on my bed with a giant smirk on his face. I smiled at him as I walked over to my clothes. "You know," I started as I pulled on my jeans. "The point of a secret relationship is that you don't come in here while I'm in here."
Happy didn't respond so I glanced over at him to see that his eyes were staring at my chest. I rolled my eyes at how much of a guy he was being. We hadn't slept together yet. Happy was adamant that this was real and didn't want me to think that he was just after sex. I appreciated how serious he was about this and definitely respected his decision. But even I was getting frustrated.
I snapped my fingers in front of his face, and he jumped before meeting my eyes. I smirked at him. "My eyes are up here Happy," I told him. "Not in my chest."
Happy only smirked before standing up. Despite being 5'10", which was tall for a woman, Happy was still four inches taller than me and I still had to look up at him. It was something that he loved to point out. "I just like what I see," he told me, running a hand up my arm. "I wanna take you out on another date tonight, if you're up to it."
I smiled at him and wrapped my arms around his middle, pulling him closer. He wrapped his arms around my shoulders, still smirking down at me. "I have a better idea," I told him. "How about, tomorrow, we stay at my house, and I cook dinner? Emma and Anton's house is almost done, and they're planning to stay there tonight. We'll have the house to ourselves."
"Are you sure that's what you want?" he countered. "I'm not doing too well with not keeping my hands off of you. I wouldn't be able to help myself if we were all alone."
"Happy, I love that you want to make sure that I know it's not about sex for you," I started with a sigh. "But I'm getting a little frustrated over here. I know that this isn't about sex for you, so just know that you have a green light from me. I trust you."
A look that I couldn't place passed over Happy's face before he crashed his lips to mine. The kiss was quick but passionate, and when he pulled back, I could see lust in his eyes. "It's a date," he said before kissing me again.
Before it could go too far, I pulled back this time. I smirked at him. "You'll have to keep it in your pants until tomorrow babe," I teased. "If you stay in here any longer, the others will definitely get suspicious. Now, go so I can finish getting dressed."
Happy chuckled as he playfully smacked my ass before walking away. He glanced back at me over his shoulder and winked at me before leaving. I huffed a laugh as the door closed and shook my head.
*Coming Home*
After getting dressed and putting on my boots, I threw my hair into a tight bun and then headed outside to see all of the Sons sitting at the long picknick table. They all looked nervous and tensed up the moment I walked out. I looked between them with a confused look. "Okay," I said. "Who did what and why do you all look like you're bracing for something?"
A few of the guys glanced over at my Pop, and I raised an eyebrow. "What says we're bracing for anything?" Tig asked.
I turned a hard look to Tig, and he shifted his stance form where he stood next to Clay. "Because you're shifting Tiggy," I hissed at him, then turned to my dad. "Pop? Care to share?"
Piney met my eyes briefly before looking away and coughed uncomfortably. "I, uh, I called your mom and told her you were here," he told me gruffly.
My eyebrows shot up as shock filled me. "I'm sorry," I laughed in a mix of bewilderment and outrage. "You did what?"
"Sav, she's got a right to know that you're alive and here," Opie tried to reason.
I turned a hard glare to him, and for his credit, he didn't back down. "I know why he did it," I seethed. "Hell, I even agree with why he did it. That doesn't mean that I can't be pissed off about it!"
I stormed off towards the office of the garage. I needed to cool off before I said anything and working with my hands always helped me calm down. Didn't matter if it was a gun, rifle, or a car.
"Where the hell are you going?!" Tig yelled after me.
I turned around, walking backwards and threw up my arms in frustration. "I'm clocking in for work!" I screamed back across the lot. "Is that alright with you, Keeper?!"
Turning back around, I clocked in angrily, throwing on my work shirt and got to work on a car from last night.
