Hello people! Here is chapter 2! Enjoy.
A good night's rest, unfortunately, was not a miracle worker.
Phineas woke up feeling the full brunt of pain throughout his body. At the hospital, he was well medicated, but they had only sent him home with standard meds to ensure his days were just a tad easier. He popped a couple into his mouth and, with the assistance of a handy glass of water, swallowed what would hopefully help even a little.
He slowly sat up making sure he didn't put any weight on his injured wrist, and inched his way off of the bed. No use changing into day clothes. He walked downstairs in his pajamas to greet his family. When he entered the kitchen, although very subtle, he noticed that conversation had come to a slight halt. All eyes were on him as he made his way over to a seat at the dining room table.
He looked around awkwardly.
"Good morning!" He said, breaking the silence. They spoke somewhat in unison.
"Good morning, Phineas!"
Almost as if they noticed they were acting weird, everyone tried to return to a state of normalcy.
"Eggs for breakfast!" His mom said, setting a plate in front of him and kissing the top of his head. "How are you feeling?"
He tried moving his shoulder, followed by his wrist, both were followed by sharp pain.
"Not too great… but nothing some scrambled eggs can't help, huh?" He said, earning a small laugh from his mom. He took a bite, deciding quickly not to beat around the bush. The family trip was only a couple days away by this point and they needed to talk about what would happen. "So… have you guys decided what's gonna happen with England?"
His parents exchanged glances, Ferb was destroying some eggs.
"Yes!" His dad started. "We figured it would be for the best if one of us stayed here to look after you," he continued. Linda cut him off.
"So I'll be here for you while your father and Ferb go!" She said. Phineas was slightly confused.
"I don't think it's necessary to split the trip like that." Phineas said, setting down his fork. "I'm almost eighteen! I'd be totally fine if you guys all went."
It wasn't that he wanted to get rid of his parents, or that he wouldn't appreciate the company, but he didn't want to spoil summer plans for anyone. His were already done with and if he could save anyone else's good time, he would!
"Honey, it's honestly okay!" His mom started, sensing Phineas's guilt about their worry; Something they had prepared for.
"Mom, you should go! I'll be totally fine. I still have my good arm, and if anything else comes up I can give the Garcia-Shapiros a call." He said. "Please, enjoy yourself!"
She seemed to mull it over for a minute.
"Go ahead and finish breakfast, I'll talk it over with your father." She said. It wasn't a denial, Phineas was right! And maybe the alone time would be good for him, give him time to mull things over and figure out his stride with this newfound restraint. Not a denial, moreso a prolonged yes.
Which is what it ended up being. A couple days passed and his parents made sure he had everything he needed; groceries to last the month, medication, fresh wraps(if need be) and other such commodities. As added peace of mind, they also let Candace know what was happening, and the girl let them know she'd stop by sometime to make sure the place wasn't burned down. She had been away from home having the time of her life at college, dormitory life was doing her good.
With everything all set, the Flynn-Fletchers filed into the car. All except Phineas. He was able to give a last hug to his family, stating, "Have fun, Don't forget me!"
Watching them drive away was surreal. He'd never been left behind, let alone been separated from Ferb, or even really had the house to himself. Well, there was Perry, but he's a platypus; they don't do much.
His home was filled with an odd silence, the sort of silence that was filled with a ringing static noise. It wasn't bad, just unfamiliar.
He felt his phone buzz, a text! He took a look and smiled at the sender.
"Howdy, Phin!" Isabella texted him. She must have just seen his family leave.
"You stalking me, Garcia-Shapiro?" He responded.
"Oh, why would I ever do that? You're about as exciting as that platypus of yours!" Phineas laughed. Isabella could pull a chuckle, a laugh, a huff, or a snort out of him with ease.
"Mind if I call you? My hand is a little tied right now…" He texted. It wasn't long before a call came his way. He gingerly sat down on the couch to save his back, and answered the call.
"Who is this?" He said into the phone.
"Oh, I'm sorry! I must have dialed the wrong number, I'm trying to reach a guy with two functioning hands!" She quipped back.
"Oh, ouch!" He said, trying his best to sound hurt by the remark. There weren't really boundaries between the two; Isabella could say whatever mean joke came to mind and not only would he know it was just a joke, but he'd have something ready to fire back at her instantly.
"Whatcha doin'?" She asked him. "Saw your parents just left, you doing okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just sitting on the couch. I never realized there's nothing to do in the house! I should really be outside." He said through a chuckle. It was only slightly a damper on his mood.
"Hey now, I'm sure there's plenty to do around the house!" She said.
"Yeah? Like what?" He challenged her. A brief pause on the other line indicated she had something in mind.
"How about this… I don't have plans tonight, I know you definitely don't! How about I bring over popcorn and we watch a movie?" She offered. Phineas thought it over for a second.
"Hmm… sounds enticing, it wouldn't be a black tie event, would it?" He asked jokingly.
"Only the finest PJs, my good sir!" She said back. He smiled.
"Cool! I'm down. I trust your judgment! Bring whatever movie you want."
"Any movie I want?" She asked.
"Well, so long as it's good!" He said, chuckling a bit.
"Okay, I'll make sure it knocks your socks off. I have a couple things to do, then a quick shower and I'll be over!" She said, sounding pretty enthusiastic about the whole thing. He was excited too, some alone time with his good friend! Admittedly, a small blush did tinge his cheeks. Although they were close friends, Phineas did harbor some feelings for Isabella. There was no telling if she felt the same way, however, and it would be best if he didn't jeopardize their friendship by bringing it up, so he had always kind of pushed those feelings down.
"Sounds good to me! I'll see you soon." They exchanged goodbyes and hung up. He was once again sitting in that silence, but this time it was a little more pleasant. He looked at the clock and guesstimated that he had a couple hours until Isabella came over, deciding it would be best to hit the shower himself. He was told explicitly not to get his bandages wet, so the best he could do was wash his face and his hair. It would have to do. At the very least, it would pass the time.
Ooo, there you go! Hopefully you liked this chapter. I'm having fun, so it doesn't matter too much! But let me know what you thought anyway :)
