I do not own Pokemon

Parker was feeling confident now. With another few steps, he advanced toward the treeline, only to hear a low screech as a bird pokemon with a sharp, curved beak viciously growled at his Zubat.

"Vike! You know what to do!"

VIke launched himself at the Spearow, biting into the feathered pokemon with extreme difficulty, his teeth barely reaching the Spearow's skin.

The wild pokemon retaliated, viciously slamming his beak into Vike, leaving gash wounds at every strike that the Zubat's Leech Life could not heal back.

Parker looked nervous. It was clear the Vike was losing. His only pokemon, his one and only ticket to cross the mountains was dying in front of his eyes.

No.

That couldn't happen.

That was not allowed to happen.

He would not allow it to happen.

Not against a fucking Spearow.

"Let him go, you stupid bird!" he shouted, charging in with a Tackle.

His shoulder impacted the Spearow, pushing the surprised pokemon against the ground. The pokemon glared, pecking him in return and leaving a nasty bite-size wound on his forearm.

Vike chomped onto the Spearow again, taking its attention away and allowing Parker to bash it again. The wild pokemon, now enraged, screeched at the man, lunging for his head with a powerful peck on his forehead. With one more shoulder bash, Parker slammed the Spearow into the ground. The sound of broken bones reached the Rocket's ears, now staring in shock at the dead Spearow as Vike clamped his jaws around the bird's twitching body.

Parker slumped down, the adrenaline of the fight slowly disappearing from his system, allowing him to realize what he had just done.

Did he… Did he enter a pokemon battle by using Tackle?

He, a human… used a pokemon move? Was such a thing even possible? Clearly it was, he had just done it. Did… did that imply that humans were pokemons? It sort of made sense, now that he thought about it. In the world there were three types of creatures: plants, pokemons and humans. But even then, according to professor Fig plants were a type of pokemon as well, so... Did that mean that humans were pokemon as well? That would make sense, he had heard of dedicated psychic pokemon trainers developing telekinetic abilities… did they learn them from a Technical Machine? If he found a TM for Telekinesis, could he learn that move too? Or perhaps it was something that those trainers learned naturally by training psychic pokemons? Were there conditions that allowed humans to learn pokemon moves? Why didn't anyone teach them that? Sure, Professor Fig was a shitty teacher and a massive tool, but even he would know something this fundamental…unless he already knew, but the knowledge was kept secret. Or maybe it was just one of those classes he ditched, it's not like he was a model student…

Parker's musing was halted by Vike landing on his head. He frowned at his pokemon. That Spearow had messed him up badly, if the two of them encountered another one, the chances of Vike dying, even with his help, were rather high.

He looked around himself. He was rather high up, a few hundred meters away from the cliff he climbed on and surrounded by grass tall enough to completely hide his frame, so long as he crouched even a little bit. It wasn't a perfect hiding spot, but he couldn't risk losing Vike to another angry Spearow. He laid down, back resting upon the tree with Vike snuggling on his head.

Next morning, somewhere in Kanto between route 2 and route 22

Parker woke up in the morning light, his back sore and his clothes damp from the morning dew. He shook his head, waking up Vike, who yawned before flapping his wings. Thankfully, the Zubat seemed to have healed during the night.

After a growling stomach, Parker searched among his pockets for something to snack on, but to his dismay he found nothing. He could really go for some milk and honey at the moment. As soon as the thought came into his mind, his mood soured. He was a fugitive, he wouldn't get the chance to eat anything like that in a while. Unless…wild pokemons did produce honey, right? He was fairly sure only a Miltank or a Taurus could make milk, but honey was made by wild bug pokemons. Shouldn't be too hard to find a Weedle nest and… He sighed. A Weedle nest would most definitely be swarming with Beedrills. No honey either, it seemed.

With a deep sigh, he started to walk forward. Perhaps he would be lucky enough to find something just by wandering himself.

After a few steps, he stumbled upon a rather surprised Pidgey and smirked. He could go for a fried Pidgey.

With a shout, he and Vike launched themselves at the pokemon, killing it rather easily. Now… how to cook it? Actually, scratch that… How to start a fire? And now that he thought about it… what happened to the Spearow they had killed yesterday? Had Vike eaten it? He hadn't even bothered to check.

In any case, he now had a dead Pidgey and absolutely no clue what to do with it. He would most likely need to cut it, but with what? He supposed getting some kind of blade was in order. Perhaps a pot to boil it?

Water.

He needed to find a source of water. That would be a good place to start, right? Perhaps he could get something to use as a knife near a river.

He looked around, spotting a small cave entrance into the mountain side. Would it have water? Probably not.

Better continue north, then. The two continued their journey, only interrupted by the occasional Mankey or Pidgey.

After killing their second Mankey, Vike started to fly around in circles, excitement evident. He opened his mouth wide, as if to scream at something, but nothing happened. Vike turned, opening his mouth toward Parker, as if to show him something cool. Suddenly, he felt his vision become fuzzy and a small headache forming in the back of his head. He had to stop for a second, the dizziness making him unable to walk straight. Was that… Supersonic? Had Vike just learned a new move?

The Zubat landed on his trainer's head, fluttering in an apologetic manner, trying his best to help Parker out of his altered state. After a few seconds, the sensation passed.

"That's how you guys feel when you get confused?"

Vike tilted his head, not understanding the question.

"Nevermind. You got a new move, that's excellent news! You're getting stronger."

Vike puffed his chest in pride at the compliment.

With high spirit, despite his empty stomach, the duo marched forward. He was lucky enough to not encounter any more Spearows and with the number advantage he and Vike were able to pretty much kill any wild Mankey they came across before the furballs had any real chance of fighting back.

After a couple of hours, Parker had a thorn shirt and a handful of new bruises, while Vike had kept himself in top shape.

They walked into a clearing with a small group of six small Nidorans chomping freely on what looked like the remains of a Kakuna.

Parker wasn't sure about fighting while outnumbered, but before he could say anything, Vike had already acted, mouth open in a Supersonic scream towards one of the wild pokemons.

In a single movement, the group turned their heads toward the Zubat, before charging into battle. Before the group could reach them, Parker dashed in, violently tackling one of the Nidorans to the ground while opening himself up for the rest of them to violently scratch and trying their best to stab him with their tiny horns.

"Leech Life! Get them away from me!"

Vike swept down, mouth open at the closest Nidoran. The pokemon squealed as the Zubat clenched his jaws around its neck, blood sprouting like a fountain while Vike drank in satisfaction from his lucky hit. He jumped away as he saw Parker charging at his target in a vicious hit that broke something in the Nidoran, who ragdolled on the ground, dead.

The other pokemon rose up in a frenzy, clawing at Vike and his trainer in equal measure.

Vike retaliated, chomping down on the wounded enemy and finishing it off, while Parker struck another one. The Nidoran squealed in pain, flopping on the ground under the effect of Vike's Supersonic.

Two Nidorans charged at Vike, their horns barely piercing Zubat's skin, one of them landing a lucky hit under his wing. Vike screeched in pain and retaliated, reaching for the lucky Nidoran's throat and clenching down, taking one big sip of blood that left the pokemon unconscious and bleeding on the ground.

With a powerful shoulder bash, Parker launched the pokemon away from him, but felt a sharp pain and a burning sensation spreading from the point of impact. Lucky bastard must have poisoned him.

He was pretty sure he remembered Nidorans need to evolve into their final stage in order to acquire poison strong enough to kill someone, but even if it wouldn't kill him, the poison was still powerful enough to knock him out.

Without caring for the poison nor the pokemon charging at him with his horn, he slammed into the Nidoran, falling on top of him as he heard the loud crack of the pokemon bones breaking under his weight.

His head was spinning and he felt the need to vomit, even if his stomach was completely empty. He looked up, saw Vike valiant battle against two very wounded Nidorans and he jumped in, crashing onto one of the Nidorans while Vike's teeth had a vicious grip around the pokemon's arm and were draining the pokemon of blood.

After a few more seconds of futile struggling, the Nidoran stopped moving. Parker would congratulate Vike on the victory, but his body was in too much pain for it.

With uncertain steps, he approached the closest tree and tried to haul himself onto it.

Six pokemons of the same time huddled together sharing the same meal wasn't a common occurrence, and he could only think of one reason for it: these pokemons all hatched together. He was lucky he stumbled upon them without a parent around, but after their little battle, he had no intention of staying close to the ground where a Nidorino, a Nidorina, or Arceus forbids it, a King or a Queen spotted them.

His hand slipped after a particularly violent pain shook his guts, forcing him on his knees. He slowly raised his hand again, hauling himself on the tree. He felt Vike pushing him, helping him in his ascend on the tree.

Vike was a great companion, and now Parker felt stupid from even considering taking another pokemon as his starter. He was about to thank him, but a wave of pain wracking through his body cut the voice from his lungs. He closed his eyes. He needed to endure, to survive, not just for himself but for Vike as well.

Notes

Boss fight: lvl 5 Spearow (Keen Eye) vs lvl 4 Vike. Normally an unwinnable fight, hence why Parker joined in.

Yup, Parker will now be able to join pokemon battles. He has the same stats as a Mankey and a frankly horrendous (hand-picked) learnset, but 2v1 battles will help a lot to make sure Vike doesn't flat out die to a super-effective critical hit

Parker has been poisoned. Poison point is a pretty good ability, if you ask me.

Sleeping, like it happends in the games, will heal the same way as a Pokemon Center and qill be the main healing method for the rest of the story
