WARNING: MINOR SWEARING

CHAPTER I

The sun shone across the endless lush green plains of the savannahs in the Pridelands as Mufasa who had just dealt with a dispute over nesting grounds between some birds was doing his kingly patrol. His advisor and good friend Zazu was perched on his shoulder being on the lookout for any problems.

The two friends were on their way to the western border to have a meeting with the king of the Westlands.
His mind was reminiscing to the days before his brother had... changed.
The two were close as cubs but as adulthood hist they seemed to drift apart.

"Oh look sire the herd is on the move."

Mufasa looked at the gorge as a large dust cloud was seen going down into the gorge.

"Odd."'

Mufasa continued to looked a the puzzling occurrence. Usually the wildebeest herds don't down move into the gorge even if they're hunted.

Though he couldn't dwell on the situation for long as the familiar voice of his brother suddenly sounded out.

"Mufasa!"

He looked down as his brother suddenly came into view looking out of breath and strangely scared about something.

"Quick!... Stampede!... In the gorge..."

He turned around as he looked at his brother in concern.

"Simba's down there!"

At that very moment a wave of worry struck Mufasa.

"Simba?"

'The King of the Westlands can wait' he thought to himself Simba, his son, his own pride and joy was in danger.
Mufasa practically leaped down the rocky slope as Zazu quickly took off into the sky and into the gorge as his brother followed him closely behind.

With a brief slide down a slope he reached the edge of a ledge as he began looking frantically with his mind racing and thousands of thoughts going through his mind.
Mufasa and his brother Scar looked up at Zazu who had just flown right next to them.
"There! There! On that tree!"

Mufasa looked down to his son holding on for dear life on a dead tree.

"Hold on Simba!"

As soon as he said that a wildebeest struck the tree causing it to crack and wobble. Mufasa took no time to leap into down into the gorge into the stampede.
He looked up for a brief moment to see his son still holding on before he went under a wildebeest and began running against the herd.

While most of the wildebeest quickly swerved around him one accidentally ran right into him striking him right on the head just a few metres away from the tree.
Mufasa being temporarily stunned had gotten himself upright just in time to see a wildebeest smash into the tree and send Simba flying.

He wasted no time getting up and running before leaping into the sky catching Simba just in time.
He then swung around and began running with the herd again noticing a small ledge just a few metres away.

'Perfect!' He however didn't notice the wildebeest that was running towards him in time as it struck him in the face and he was sent tumbling to the ground with his son being thrown out of his mouth and into the stampede a few inches away.

Although his head injuries were getting to him he quickily got back up and grabbed Simba.
He jumped up on the ledge before placing Simba down just in time before he was quickly dragged away into the stampede.

He could hear his son call out to him just before he struck his head against the ground.
Despite the pain he knew he had to get up and save himself. With all his energy he leaped out of the stampede onto a rocky ledge. The instability of the rocks made it difficult to climb as gradually climbed up.

From the thick dust clouds he could see the silhouette of a lion. The silhouette became more familiar the further he climbed until he reached the very top where it looked strikingly familiar to his brother.

"Scar!"

Scar simply looked at him with an unimpressed look.

"Brother! Help me!"

His brother's face remained the same as he stood there.

He could feel his backlegs slipping as he struggled to hold on.

He didn't know why his brother was taking so long then a thought came back to him from earlier on.

'Surely my brother wouldn't kill me right?'

'Right?'

Just as the thought came Scar suddenly grabbed onto his paws his paws digging into his skin like thorns.
He roared in pain as he winced and turned away slightly.

'He wouldn't kill his own brother?'

He turned and looked back at his brother as a smile formed on his face.
But this wasn't a happy or a mischievous smile like he'd do before the "accident" it was a sadistic, villainous smile.

'No of course he wouldn't I'm over thinking this.'

He was trapped in a sea of thoughts that was until h̶i̶s̶ b̶r̶o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ Scar said something that would give him an answer he never wanted.

"Long... Live... the King!"

'Let this be a dream.'

'Everything is fine.'

Half of Mufasa's mind wasn't believing this and the other half didn't want this to be true but the reality was quickly sinking in.

He really would kill his brother.

Scar threw him off the cliff as the last things he heard was the stampede, his scream and his son's screams before he hit the ground.

Everything seemed to go blurry before it went to complete darkness.

~'/-|-\'~

The ringing faded away as he suddenly woke up with the sounds of his breathing echoing everywhere.

He looked around at the strange blackness quickly getting up.
He could see himself clearly and could feel the ground. But he looked as if nothing had happened.

He could remember the stampede. Surely he should feel the pain and have injuries.
Mufasa was broken out of his thoughts when he saw a small figure in the thick black fog in the distance.

It looked exactly like his son but he couldn't make out many details.

"Simba?"

As he ran towards the figure the figure seemed to vanish only to reappear in the distance again as another figure seemed to form.

This time the figure looked like h̶i̶s̶ b̶r̶o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ Scar comforting Simba.
His blood boiled at the sight of Scar especially after that betrayal at the gorge.
He ran towards the silhouettes with complete fury
"Get away from my son!" "You have no right to come back after all the shit you've caused!"
But like before the silhouettes vanished.

"WHERE ARE YOU COWARD!"

"You won't find them here Mufasa."

He turned around to find his father Ahadi suddenly behind him.

"But Scar and-... Simba-... A-and you-... This doesn't make any sense- Y-you died a month after Simba was born. How are you-."

"Calm yourself my boy." "It's okay you're not dead yet."

"What do you mean?"

"Well I spoke to the great kings and they agree that you should be given a second chance."

"But Scar-."

"You'll deal with Scar in good time my son."

Mufasa stood there as Ahadi turned around and went into the black darkness.

"Wait! Father! I-I-I don't understand!"

Mufasa suddenly fell down as he landed on his side. As he now found himself in a gorge.

"What in The Great Kings?"

His confusion didn't last long as his brother suddenly formed in front on him.

"Scar!"

He tried to get up but found himself stuck to the ground. as Scar had that same villainous smile on his face as before.

Scar lowered his head down to his level as Mufasa growled at him.

"Such a pity your son didn't die with you brother."

As Scar chuckled a bit before lifting his head up and away from Mufasa.

"Don't you dare touch my son you bastard!"

"No matter he'll soon join you once my dear friends get a hold of him."

"The throne is all mine!"

Scar then began walking away as Mufasa suddenly got up.

"Good riddance big brother."

And just as Mufasa was going to pounce on Scar he disappeared as Mufasa fell before hitting his head on a rock that suddenly appeared.

Everything seemed to go quiet as struggled to keep his eyes open. He could of sworn he saw Scar on the top on a cliff. before everything went dark once again.

Then he opened his eyes again.

What's this? A random cliffhanger? You know I planned to make this chapter longer but it's already long as it is so I just broke it up a bit (Don't worry you'll find out what will happen in the next chapter) Also technically my first fanfic on this site that I've bothered to actually start. but at least there's some chapters already made. See you in the next chapter.
