"I don't understand…what exactly could you possibly have to show me in my garden shed?" Farah asked. After she had regained consciousness…at home of all places…hers and her mother's lodger told her that he wanted to show her something. The Doctor just looked at her before opening the door. The young woman's mouth dropped open at the wooden blue box that had been stashed inside. The Time Lord pushed the ship's door open and gestured for her to go in. Farah stepped inside the TARDIS, her eyes widening at the sheer size of the room. "What?!" she exclaimed before rushing outside. The 23 year old went around the blue box "This is impossible", she said circling it again. The Doctor leant against the console waiting for her to come back in, most likely say what everyone always says. The ginger entered the TARDIS still looking rather amazed.
"Anything to say? About the size maybe?" the Time Lord questioned.
"It's…it's bigger on the inside!" Farah exclaimed. The Doctor grinned at her, even James barely contained his own smile. "You liked hearing me say that, right?" she enquired, eyeing the Time Lord.
"Yeah I did", he admits "How did you know?"
Farah cast a glance her friend, who gave her an encouraging nod. "Well, I um…" she twisted a strand of ginger hair around her finger "I'm an empath. I can feel what you're feeling". She dropped her gaze to her feet, braced herself for the insults and the mocking. But it never came.
"That's amazing", the Doctor said.
Farah looked up at him in surprise "Really? You don't think that makes me a freak or a werido?"
"No, it makes you special", the Time Lord frowned "why would you think that?"
"My dad said my…thing was curse and that I was a freak", the 23 year old explained, her voice trembling "and he left because of me".
"Well, he is a closeminded idiot", James remarked moving closer to her, putting an arm around her shoulders "you and Kate are much better off without him".
"Yeah I suppose…" the ginger murmured. The dirty blond gave the Doctor a pointed look.
"You know what you need? A little trip", the Time Lord commented "you name a destination and I'll take you there".
"Thanks but I don't think it's the best time to go on a jolly", Farah mumbled "besides my mother would be worried sick if I just disappeared for a day or two without warning.
"If it helps, the TARDIS can travel in time AND space", the Doctor told her.
The young woman blinked "is he being serious?" she asked James, not sure whether he was pulling her leg.
"Very", the dirt blond replied.
"Well….I guess one trip in the TARDIS wouldn't hurt", Farah conceded "As long as you can promise that I'll be back for around this time so my mother isn't the wiser".
"That I can do", the Doctor promised. James snorted and he shot him a glare. "I can!" the Time Lord insisted.
"Sure, keep telling yourself that", the dirty blond said, knowing his track record for getting to the correct time and place "in any case, I best come with you. Just to ensure Fay gets home at the right time".
"The more the merrier", the Time Lord stated, though secretly he'd hoped it would be just himself and Farah on the ginger's first trip. No third wheel as it were. "Right", he clapped his hands together, rubbing them "all of time and space. Where would you like to go Fay?"
"Well, I um…" Farah moved away from James and over to the console, trailing her fingers over it as she contemplated.
"How about Greece or Rome?" James suggested "you enjoy history".
The ginger hummed "As tempting as those places are, I think I'd like to see something else a bit more", she said.
"Ah, the aurora borealis", the dirty blond nods.
Farah smiled "you remembered!"
"Of course I did", James said, returning her smile "What kind of friend would I be if I'd forgotten one of the things your really wanted to see".
The ginger turned to the Doctor "I'd like to see the Northern Lights, please John".
"No problem. Oh, and it's the Doctor, by the way. Not John Smith", the Time Lord corrected.
"The Doctor", Farah repeats "gotcha". She wasn't going to question it, after all John…the Doctor chose to use an alias to pass as a human.
"Good, now hold on", the Time Lord said before pulling a lever. Farah stumbled back as the TARDIS started to jerk and shake, James grabbing her hand and tugging her to the console, ensuring to keep an arm around her so she wouldn't fall during the bumpy ride.
"We're here", the Time Lord said as the TARDIS stopped.
"Seriously?" Farah asked, surprised.
"Take a look", the Doctor said, gesturing to the door.
The ginger went over to the door and pulled it open. She stared at the winter wonderland that was stretched out before her. The woman stepped out of the TARDIS and smiled at the crunch of the snow under her boots. "This is amazing", she said scooping up the snow and throwing it into the air. The Doctor and James watched from the TARDIS doorway, both happy to see that she didn't appear to be too affect by her ordeal. Either that or she was very good at pretending. "Where exactly are we?" she asked, turning to the Time Lord.
"Iceland, just outside of Reykjavik", the Doctor replied.
"It's incredible", she breathed "One minute we're in England, the next we're in Iceland. You do this all the time?"
"Pretty much. Occasionally going to other planets", the Doctor said.
Farah just looked around in amazement at her surroundings. Then she shivered as her jacket wasn't really right for the current weather. "You don't happen to have thicker coat do you? She asked, rubbing her arms.
"There's one in the wardrobe", the Doctor replied before giving her a long and complicated list of directions. James just shook his head at how lost the ginger looked. He was highly tempted to escort her to the wardrobe but he refrained himself for what was about to happen…HAD to happen.
"Right. I think got that", Farah said although he lost her after the first few lefts and rights. She went into the TARDIS. "Was it left or right at the end of the second corridor?" she asked aloud, looking in both directions.
"Left" a voice said, echoing around her.
"Who said that?" the 23 year old called, looking around for the source.
"A friend. Just trust me Farah"
"Well I don't want to keep the Doctor and James waiting", the ginger said "Lead the way". The empathy followed the directions that the voice gave her and was grateful to find herself in a huge wardrobe. It didn't take long to pick out a winter coat from the numerous racks. The voice led her safely back to the console room.
"Warm now?" the Doctor asked, noting the winter coat she was wearing.
"Yep", Farah replied.
"Good. Now we best get going if we want to get a good view to see the show before it gets dark", the Time Lord said.
"Aren't you coming?" the ginger enquired, glancing back at James when he didn't follow herself and the Doctor out of the TARDIS.
"I thought I'd stay here, get lost in a good book", the dirty blond answered "you two have fun".
"Uh…ok. I'll tell you about it when we get back", Farah promised.
"Doctor can I ask you something?" Farah asked as they walked.
"You just did", the Doctor said cheekily.
The ginger rolled her eyes at his answer "why do you have so many women's clothes in the wardrobe? I know you had your friend travelling with you but that doesn't explain why you have so many", she said. "Come on you can tell me. Do you enjoy dressing up as a woman?" she teased.
"No I do not dress up as a woman", the Time Lord said adamantly.
"I won't tell anyone Doctor if you do" the empath could tell that he was getting slightly annoyed with her so she continued with her teasing.
"I don't", he insisted.
"It's ok honestly. I've got nothing against it", Farah continued.
"Farah if you're going to keep on about it I'll leave you here", the Doctor warned although he didn't mean it. He knew she was just messing with him.
"You wouldn't do that", the 23 year old said.
"Watch me", the Time Lord said before he turned around and started walking away.
"Aw come on Doctor! I was just teasing!" she called after him. The Doctor stopped walked but stayed facing away from her trying to keep himself from smiling or laughing. He heard crunch of her footsteps in the snow as she came up to him. "Doctor I'm sorry ok. I was just messing around with you", Farah said apologising. The Time Lord couldn't help but crack a small smile at her. "You were just pretending to be mad at me?" she said.
"And you fell for it", the Doctor said, starting to laugh. "You didn't see that coming did you?" he joked. Farah rolled her eyes and smacked him on the chest in annoyance. She shook head but she was smiling. The ginger wasn't really mad at him as she had started it in the first place. She was also surprised that she didn't sense he was joking when he warned her. "Well I think we should get going if we want to get a good spot".
"Yeah ok", Farah agreed. The pair continued on walking through the snow. Farah got an idea hung back, kneeling down to scoop up some snow. "Hey Doctor!" she called.
He turned to answer her and was met with a face full of snow. The Time Lord wiped it away and saw Farah grinning. She took off when the Doctor got a handful of snow. It hit her in the back and soon they were having a snow ball war. Farah shrieked when some snow got under her clothes. "That's damn cold!" she exclaimed trying to get the snow out of her clothes. "Oh did not just laugh at me", she said stopping trying to get the snow out and glared at the Doctor. "That's it!" the woman said running at him. The Time Lord started running as fast as he could through the snow with an angry ginger chasing after him.
Somehow she managed to catch up to him and tackled him to the ground. "Gonna stop laughing at me?" Farah asked standing up brushing some snow off her jeans.
"Yes. I promise. Want to help me up?" the Time Lord asked.
"No", Farah said walking away.
"Please", the Doctor called.
The 23 year old sigh and went back to where he was laying in the snow. "Fine", she said holding out her hands. The Doctor reached up and grabbed them and Farah hauled him to his feet.
"Can I open my eyes now?" Farah asked. As they got closer to their destination, the Time Lord made her closer her eyes. She did as he asked, allowing him to lead her.
"Just a little longer. Have a little patience Fay", the Doctor said.
"I don't have patients. I'm not a doctor, Doctor", the ginger couldn't help but joke.
The Time Lord chuckled. "Ok, now you can open your eyes", the Doctor said as he saw the first wisps of the northern lights appear in the night sky. Farah opened her eyes and gasped when she saw green and pink ribbons of the Aurora dance across the sky.
"It's beautiful. All those colours", she said staring up at it.
"I could tell you how it's made", the Doctor offered.
"Don't. That will spoil the magic", Farah said, not wanting a scientific explanation to ruin the experience. This was definitely worth the trip in the TARDIS. The two of them stood in the snow, watching the northern lights continue to dance across the sky for about an hour before they started back to the ship.
