Chapter 23: Taking The Ultimate Test! Fight For The Rising Badge!
The party took in the view that was Blackthorn City.
Michael - "Happy to be home Clair?"
Clair - "Both yes and no."
Michael - "Meaning?"
Clair - "I'm happy to be back home after so long, but also sad that I'm leaving here again to travel the rest of the regions to travel with you all."
Michael - "You can stay here in Blackthorn if you want to."
Clair - "No. I've already decided to join you guys for the long haul. I've been with you guys since Vermillion City. No point in stopping now."
Michael - "Thanks for the vote of confidence."
Clair - "You're welcome."
Titus - "Clair!"
Clair - "Grandfather!"
Clair ran over and hugged her grandfather.
Titus - "Having fun on your journey?"
Clair - "Yes, I am! Especially with all the new Pokémon Michael's caught."
Titus - "Even I'm curious to see how his PokéDex is coming along."
Due to how late the party arrived in the city, they decided to rest at the Pokémon Center for the night before challenging Clair for the Rising Badge in the morning. During breakfast the following morning, Michael and the girls silently went over their strategy for Clair. Then after breakfast was over, the party made their way over to the gym. The girls all had their turn, with pretty much all of them struggling against Clair at one point or another. Then it was finally Michael's turn to battle.
Abigail - "This is the Blackthorn City Gym Battle between Gym Leader Clair and Challenger Michael Masi of Pokémon Island. The battle will be four vs. all. The battle will continue until all Pokémon on one side are unable to continue. Are both sides ready?"
Clair/Michael - "Ready!"
Both trainers activated their Battle Disks.

Delcatty suddenly fired off her attack early, given Aerodactyl an easy chance to dodge and strike back, dealing massive damage to Delcatty. Delcatty slowly rose to her feet.
Michael - "You ok Delcatty?"
Delcatty - "Just fine Michael. Not sure I can take another hit of that strength though."
Michael - "Let's just be patient this time."
Delcatty - "Right!"

Delcatty closed her eyes as Aerodactyl charged at her. Then once Aerodactyl was in a close enough range.
Michael - "Shadow Thunder Ice!"
Delcatty fired her attack off point-blank, catching Aerodactyl off-guard as she took the full force of the attack. The attack exploded upon hitting Aerodactyl. The smoke then cleared to show Aerodactyl knocked out.
Abigail - "Aerodactyl is unable to battle! Delcatty wins!"
Clair's Remaining Pokémon: 3 – 1 = 2
Clair returned Aerodactyl.
Clair - "Thank you Aerodactyl. You put up a valiant effort. Go Gyarados!"
The battlefield opened up to reveal a giant pool with floating platforms. Gyarados then slithered into the pool, while Delcatty jumped onto one of the platforms.
Abigail - "Will you change Pokémon challenger Michael?"
Michael crossed his arms, silently saying no.

Clair - "Oh no!"

Just as quickly as Flygon was about to be overpowered, the beam attacks returned to their stalemate.
Michael - "Full Power Flygon!"
Clair - "You Do The Same Kingdra!"
Both Dragon-Types let out a battle cry, then put everything they had into their attacks. After a long-fought battle of wills, Flygon won out and overpowered Kingdra, knocking her out.
Abigail - "Kingdra is unable to battle! Flygon wins!"

Abigail - "All four of Gym Leader Clair's Pokémon are knocked out! So, the winner of the battle is the challenger, Michael Masi!"
Michael - "We did it!"
Michael ran over and hugged Flygon.
Michael - "You were amazing Flygon. I'm so proud of you."
Flygon - "Thanks Michael."
He then crouched down and hugged Tundra and Delcatty.
Michael - "I'm proud of you both as well."
Tundra/Delcatty - "Thank you Michael."
The four of them walked together and met Clair at midfield.
Clair - "Well done Michael. I'll admit right now. The four of you gave me a run for my money."
Michael - "Glad to hear we didn't disappoint you Clair."
Clair - "Sorry if I hurt you Delcatty."
Delcatty - "As long as Michael wins the battle and gets the gym badge, so be it."
Clair - "Anyway. In accordance with the Pokémon League rules, I award you the Rising Badge."
Clair handed Michael the badge, who happily took it.
Michael - "Alright! Time to return to the Indigo Plateau! We just got the Rising Badge!"
Tundra and Flygon joined in the celebration, while Delcatty weakly raised a paw. Michael then picked Delcatty up.
Michael - "Let's get you over to the Pokémon Center."
Delcatty - "Thank you..."
Michael and the girls then headed for the Pokémon Center to get Tundra, Delcatty, and Flygon healed up. While Nurse Joy took care of them, Michael decided to contact the Professors and show them his current progress on his PokéDex.
