Chapter 24: Proving Your Worth! Battle With The Kimono Girls!
Once Michael and the girls were fully stocked up on supplies, they began their trek south on Routes 45 & 46 to New Bark Town. on Route 45, Rarity caught Phanpy, Pinkie caught Teddiursa, and Rainbow caught Gligar AND Skarmory, along with Michael catching all four Pokémon.
Twilight - "So including evolutions, that's what, seven new encounters?"
Michael - "Five actually. I've already seen Skarmory when Akira flew off on her's back in Fuchsia City. And both Gliscor and Ursaluna are non-Johto Pokémon."
Weiss - "That's right. Gliscor is from Sinnoh, while Ursaluna is from Hisui."
Twilight - "Oh yeah that right..."
Michael - "Don't worry about it Twilight. But at least I'm now five encounters closer to a full Johto PokéDex."
The party then resumed their journey, quickly crossing Routes 45 and 46 before finally arriving in New Bark Town.
Michael - "Hey Professor Elm."
Professor Elm - "Hello Michael, girls. What brings you all here?"
Ruby - "We just wanted to say hi before making our way to the Indigo Plateau."
Professor Elm - "Afraid you all are gonna have to postpone that trip first."
Michael - "How come?"
Professor Elm - "Well after our call in Blackthorn City ended, these five beautiful Kimono Girls showed up and were asking for you Michael."
Michael - "So they're finally making their move."
Twilight - "So where did they say for Michael to meet them?"
Professor Elm - "The Dance Theater in Ecruteak City."
Michael - "Let's get moving girls."
Michael and the girls then left Professor Elm's lab, followed by quickly making their way to Ecruteak City. Upon arriving in Ecruteak City, the party first stopped in the Pokémon Center to make sure all of Michael's team was fully healed. Then they walked over and entered the Dance Theater. The girls stayed back as Michael made his way onto the stage alone.
Kimono Girl - "Welcome. My name is Zuki. I met you previously in Violet City."
Michael - "When I was carrying the egg Mr. Pokémon was supposed to take care of, right?"
Zuki - "That's correct. To bring back BOTH Lady Ho-Oh and Lady Lugia, we needed someone with the right bond with Pokémon. We were the ones that asked Mr. Pokémon to give that mystery egg to whoever showed true potential. The egg was eventually handed from Mr. Pokémon to Professor Elm, and then to you. However, being pure alone will not be sufficient to face the power of these Pokémon. The five of us must test you. Are you ready?"
Michael - "As ready as I'll ever be."
Zuki - "Then I'll test how closely you've bonded with your Pokémon! Go Umbreon!"
Michael - "Ariados I choose you!"
Battle: Michael Masi (Ariados) Vs. Kimono Girl Zuki (Umbreon)
Kimono Girl - "Ariados Vs. Umbreon! Begin!"
Turn #1
Zuki - "Dark Pulse!"
Michael - "Poison Lunge!"
Dark Pulse's Current Power: 80 + 40 = 120
Poison Jab's Current Power: 80 + 40 = 120
Lunge's Current Power: 80 + 40 = 120 + 24 = 144
Poison Scissor's Current Power: 120 + 144 = 264 x 2 = 528
Ariados lunged at Umbreon, striking him with arms coated purple and knocking him out in a single hit.
Kimono Girl - "Umbreon is unable to battle! Ariados wins!"
Zuki - "I don't have any Pokémon left..."
Zuki and the Kimono Girl that acted as the referee then switched places.
Kimono Girl - "You are quite strong. You helped me in the Ilex Forest. My name is Naoko. I'm the one that's not so good at directions. My eyes witnessed you defeating Team Rocket when Kurt was in trouble at the Slowpoke Well. Allow me to challenge you and your Pokémon! Go Espeon!"
Michael - "Frosmoth I choose you!"
Weiss - "Snom evolved?!"
Michael - "I decided to see if Snom had wanted to get into some light training so she could get the hang of battling if she needed to. And it was during this training that she evolved into Frosmoth."
Battle: Michael Masi (Frosmoth) Vs. Kimono Girl Naoko (Espeon)
Zuki - "Frosmoth Vs. Espeon! Begin!"
Turn #1
Naoko - "Psychic!"
Michael - "Ice Buzz!"
Psychic's Current Power: 90 + 45 = 135
Ice Beam's Current Power: 90 + 45 = 135 + 27 = 162
Bug Buzz's Current Power: 90 + 45 = 135 + 27 = 162
Ice Buzz's Current Power: 162 + 162 = 324 x 2 = 648
Much like against Zuki with Ariados, Frosmoth knocked out Espeon in a single hit.
Zuki - "Espeon is unable to battle! Frosmoth wins!"
Naoko - "Oh, you are truly strong."
Naoko said nothing was she returned Espeon. She was then replaced by one of her other sisters.
Kimono Girl #3 - "You are quite the Trainer. I remember you chasing off that Team Rocket Grunt from right here. I must once again thank you for that. Although, I'm a Trainer myself. She who knows the most speaks the least! I am Miki-the Kimono Girl! Allow me to challenge you and your Pokémon! Go Flareon!"
Michael - "Araquanid I choose you!"
Battle: Michael Masi (Araquanid) Vs. Kimono Girl Miki (Flareon)
Zuki - "Araquanid Vs. Flareon! Begin!"
Turn #1
Miki - "Flamethrower!"
Michael - "Liquid Poison Crunch!"
Flamethrower's Current Power: 90 + 45 = 135
Liquidation's Current Power: 80 + 40 = 120 + 24 = 144
Poison Jab's Current Power: 80 + 16 = 96
Crunch's Current Power: 80 + 16 = 96
Liquid Poison Crunch's Current Power: 144 + 96 = 240 + 96 = 336 x 2 = 672
Miki was stunned as her Flareon was easily knocked out.
Zuki - "Flareon is unable to battle! Araquanid wins!"
Miki - "Ooh, you're good at Pokémon, too."
Miki silently returned Flareon and switched places with one of her two remaining sisters.
Kimono Girl #4 - "Excellent fighting spirit! You got me off the ice by pushing me from the back. I am the one who skates in sandals. I am Sayo-the Kimono Girl! I was listening in the Dragon's Den when sir Titus returned and said that you had passed the test of the Elder. Allow me to challenge you and your Pokémon! Go Jolteon!"
Michael - "Flygon I choose you!"
Battle: Michael Masi (Flygon) Vs. Kimono Girl Sayo (Jolteon)
Zuki - "Flygon Vs. Jolteon! Begin!"
Turn #1
Sayo - "Shadow Ball!"
Michael - "Dragon Magma Flame Pulse!"
Dragon Pulse's Current Power: 85 + 42.5 = 127.5 + 25.5 = 153
Earth Power's Current Power: 90 + 45 = 135 + 27 = 162
Flamethrower's Current Power: 90 + 18 = 108
Dragon Magma Flame Pulse's Current Power: 153 + 162 = 315 + 108 = 423 x 2 = 846
Both attacks met head-on, but Jolteon's Shadow Ball was completely overpowered as he was quickly knocked out.
Zuki - "Jolteon is unable to battle! Flygon wins!"
Sayo - "Oh, so close! I almost had you."
Sayo silently returned Jolteon, then was replaced with the fifth, and final, of the Kimono Girls.
Kimono Girl #5 - "I am the last one. You were so dependable at the Goldenrod Tunnel. I am the one who twirls even underground. I am Kuni-the Kimono Girl! I looked at you in wonder when you thwarted Team Rocket's mission to take over the Radio Tower. You must show your strength to me now. Allow me to challenge you and your Pokémon! Go Vaporeon!"
Michael - "Delcatty I choose you!"
Battle: Michael Masi (Delcatty) Vs. Kimono Girl Kuni (Vaporeon)
Zuki - "Delcatty Vs. Vaporeon! Begin!"
Turn #1
Kuni - "Hydro Pump!"
Michael - "Dodge and charge up energy!"
Hydro Pump's Current Power: 110 + 55 = 165
Delcatty easily dodged as Vaporeon fired wildly.
Turn #2
Kuni - "Hydro Pump again!"
Michael - "Solar Shadow Thunder!"
Solar Beam's Current Power: 120 + 24 = 144
Shadow Ball's Current Power: 80 + 16 = 96
Thunder's Current Power: 110 + 22 = 132
Solar Shadow Thunder's Current Power: 144 + 96 = 240 + 132 = 372 x 2 = 744 x 2 = 1,488
Much like Flygon, Delcatty quickly overpowered her opponent and knocked him out in a single hit.
Zuki - "Vaporeon is unable to battle! Delcatty wins!"
Kuni - "Oh, you are wonderful..."
Kuni then returned Espeon as she and the rest of her sisters fell into formation behind Zuki.
Zuki - "We weren't wrong about you. You are indeed worthy of these... Please take them."
Zuki then handed Michael a pair of bells.
Michael - "The Clear and Tidal Bells."
Sayo - "You've heard of them before?"
Michael - "I like to learn about the stories and origins of legendary Pokémon in my free time."
As Michael put away the pair of bells next to the pair of wings the Director gave him, the main door to enter and leave the Dance Theater slammed open and close.
Little Girl - "Big sisters! I just saw the big shadow of a Pokémon over the Bell Tower AND in the Whirl Island's waters! It could be..."
Zuki quickly realized what the little girl was saying.
Zuki - "Michael! We'll be at the Bell Tower. See you there!"
Zuki and her sisters then departed the Dance Theater.
Michael - "Well then. Time to get this show on the road!"
