"What do you think of this?" Annie asked, turning away from the hallway mirror. Abed huffed in annoyance they'd been for at least fifteen minutes; it was the type of unnecessary footage that would have been montaged in a show. He glanced up to see what Annie had put on this time hoping against hope that if he said he liked it they could finally leave the house. The dress was very similar to ones she'd worn when they still went to Greendale and over the top she'd thrown on a floral print cardigan. "You look good," Abed replied simply. "Are you sure?, it's just everyone one is going to be there, and it's been so long…" she asked unconvinced. Abed walked over to where she stood taking her hand in his " I'm assuming by everyone you mean Jeff, and I'm sure it everything will be fine it has been five years" he reassured
Annie sighed " I know it's just… things ended… awkwardly, I don't want him to hate me"
"Hey, hey look at me, he won't hate you, no one is gonna hate you how could you your Annie Edison" Abed soothed
Annie smiled sadly and Abed leaned over to kiss her check "we Better get going" he said
The muffled sound of voices drifted through the open doors of the study room. There was a crowd of people gathered around the table, chatting. Annie and Abed stepped into the room quickly merging in with the crowd. " You look the same as ever, '' a voice said from beside her. He had a stubbly beard now and his hair had streaks of grey but it was undeniably him. "Jeff" acknowledged Annie "I heard you left Greendale" "yeah well, I got offered a job teaching law in a university across town… the pay is much better there frankly." There was an awkward silence.
"So…you and Abed huh?" Jeff commented "how long has that been going on?"
"Around a year and a half" Annie replied
" huh" said Jeff " You know I never would have pictured you two together"
They both looked over to Abed who was deep into a conversation with Troy about Star Trek.
Annie's eyes lit up fondly " yeah well he's wonderful"
"You love him don't you." It wasn't a question. " I do," Annie answered.
"Have you told him?" Jeff asked
Annie turned back to face Jeff "huh, oh yeah we've already said it to each other" she responded blushing slightly.
Jeff chuckled " You know this is the happiest I've ever seen you"
The blush left Annie's face quickly. Her eyes were twinged with guilt.
"No it's ok" Jeff interrupted " Im happy for you"
Jeff cleared his throat before continuing.
" Sure things were difficult at the start, but I got this job and moved away and over time things started to get…better, I found I could think of you without it breaking my heart and that when I did think of you it was as Annie Edison one of my closest friends"
" In a way I'm glad it happened, it was just the push I needed to get my life together, it would never have worked between us anyway…I don't know somehow it always felt…"
"Wrong" finished Annie.
"Yeah"
"Friends?" Ventured Jeff hand extended.
Annie ignored his hand wrapping her arms around him instead . "Friends."
Annie released him "I better go mingle" she said
Jeff watched as she approached Abed who was now chatting to a very professional-looking Britta. He watched as without looking away from his conversation Abed wrapped his arm around Annie's waist, as if it was instinctual . Annie for her part was now resting her head on Abed's shoulder, nodding along to something Britta was saying.
