I AM HAPPY FOR YOU LOVELY PEOPLE TO CHIME IN WITH YOUR OWN IDEAS. EUROPE AND NORTH AMERICA ARE WHAT I'M FOCUSSING ON AT THE MOMENT, AND OTHER THAN THE US AND UK, I'M VENTURING IN BLIND. GO NUTS.
My time at sea has long since passed. Old age, alas, has come for my radiated body. To those readers who have not yet heard of myself, and I believe many of our American cousins reading across the ocean likely will not, I am Jonathan Falmouth, formerly the captain of the Traveller.
I have trekked far and wide across the North Atlantic. From the wastes of the Baltics to the eastern coasts of North America. I am old enough to remember a time when such travels had simply took a purchase at the local travel agency. A time, though turbulent, where one could easily head from London to Melbourne within a day.
Unless you, dear reader, seemed to have been residing safe underground for the past two centuries, intercontinental travel is quite difficult. I'm sure many of you residing on a mainland have your own squabbles to deal with. But for those who wish to partake in this perilous path, this guide is for you.
Before I begin with this guide, we must begin with the necessities for travel and survival. When attaining a ship, if that is what you plan to use this guide for, be mindful of its reliabilities. Natural gas supplies have long since dwindled. Wooden sailboats are suitable for short distances. One could, with the right skills, sail from the Shetland Islands to Amsterdam within a few weeks, preferably under calm waters.
Coal-powered vessels, while less common, and obviously more expensive, are more suitable for long-range travels. Travelling between continents will take up vast amounts of this, however.
Alongside this, weaponry is mandatory. If firearms are accessible, get as many as you can afford. Harpoons, crossbows, anything with retrievable ammunition are suitable for when bullets, fusion cells, anything disposable are scarce. Food as well. This is simple enough, fish are a sailor's best mate. Most will be irradiated, but with the correct medical provisions, you should be prepared. On land, it gets more complicated. I'm afraid that is where you must figure for yourself.
Language will be an issue. I do not expect this guide to be translated into other languages, simply too expensive, as you must understand. In northern and western Europe, English can be used. Most primarily in Great Britain and Ireland (should one master through the myriad of accents). As well as in North America, in particular the former United States and Canada, the same situation is applied.
A final word of advice. Always keep a radio. At land or sea, you can be aware of whatever perils or opportunities are in the vicinity. They are useful should you ever be in peril yourself. Should 'help' come, do not guarantee yourself that they would be samaritans.
There are many more instructions for survival I will not explain. This guide will mainly entail the geopolitics of the North Atlantic Ocean, and my personal advice for any encounters you may face. May it assist you on your travels. Should it not, I, if I remain alive, already have your money.
