What the Heart Wants
Authors note: Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read my story. This is the first story that I have attempted to write. Writing has always been very difficult for me, but it is something I have always wanted to do. I welcome all feedback good or bad so that I can improve my writing and my story. I do not own anything related to Harry Potter. That honor belongs to J.K. Rowling.
Chapter 1:
Harry awoke with a start. His heart was racing, and he was covered in sweat. He had a nightmare, that much he was sure of, but he could not remember it as he awoke. He was not at all surprised given the very eventful year last year. It was his first night back in Privet Drive after almost escaping his aunt and uncle to live with his godfather, only to have it ripped away from him. Harry was still having a hard time dealing with all the latest information and with everything that happened last year, just to be sent back to his aunt and uncle who do not care about how he was feeling. His only consolation was that he only had to be here for a week before he could go stay with the Weasleys. They had tickets to the Quidditch World Cup and had invited Harry and Hermione to join them. Then they would be staying the rest of the summer. Harry, realizing that he was not going to get anymore sleep, decided to get up and enjoy the peace and quiet before everyone awoke for the day. The Dursleys had taken to ignoring him ever since he let slip that he was in contact with his godfather who was an escaped convict (he omitted that he was innocent). It was a pleasant change for him, but he still tried to avoid them at all costs. He quickly and quietly showered, got some food and ventured outside to think. He started to think over the events of last year. How could Pettigrew not only betray his parents but Sirius as well. How can someone be your best friend and grow up with you, only to turn on you. If Sirius had just taken him that night instead of chasing after Pettigrew, he could have been raised by him. He may not have had his parents but at least he would have been raised with love. He would have had not only Sirius in his life but Remus as well. He would have been loved and cared for, taught about the wizarding world, and would have been told everything about his parents. Now, thinking about his parents brought around a whole different line of thinking. He has always thought about his parents. When he was little, he wondered about them and missed them, but how can you miss someone or something you never had or knew. It has always been his deepest desire to have his parents, even though he knew it to be impossible; but the more he gets to know about them the more his heart aches for them. He keeps hoping that someone will find Pettigrew so Sirius can be free, but he knows that is not likely to happen. There is a much chance that someone will happen upon Voldemort. Harry noticed movement inside the house and realizing just how long he had been lost in thought, decided to make himself scarce. The weeks seemed to go by very slowly with only his thought to keep him company. Finally, it was the day to leave for the Burrow. he was picked up by Arthur Weasley and escorted through the Floo. When they arrived at the Burrow he was immediately gathered up in a hug by Molly Weasley. The first real hug he ever had that he can remember was from her. He will always be grateful to her and the whole family. There was definitely excitement in the air for the World Cup the next day. While waiting for Hermione to arrive they decided to play a game of Quidditch. For the first time since last year, he felt happy and carefree. Once Hermione arrived and dinner was served, everyone was sent to bed to be ready for the early morning ahead of them.
