When Eda heard the chiming of the bell she was overjoyed, but seeing her Owlet come running through the door with a burned and coughing Camila in her arms immediately changed that, "Dear Titan, Luz! What happened?!"

After setting Camila on the couch gingerly, Luz started yelling, "No time. Get on the CB and call Hypox. Mami needs help and we can't take her to the Healing Coven. Without Healer Stein, I don't think there is anyone who knows enough about human anatomy to help. Please Mom, we have to hurry." While Luz did her best to try and keep Camila stable, Eda got the crystal ball. Hypox woke up irritated, but as soon as she heard Luz's tone her demeanor changed, and she started to rush over.

As much as Eda wanted to know what happened, she knew better than to distract Luz while she was working, and to her surprise Hypox demanded Luz's help when she arrived at the Owl House. The next few hours were rough on Eda, but when the duo left Luz's room, which they had turned into an impromptu healing room, they both looked exhausted, but calm. With a worried tone Eda asked, "She going to be ok kiddo? What happened?"

Hypox looked to Luz, and the girl nodded so she began, "Mrs. Noceda should be fine in a few days. Let's move to the kitchen so we don't wake her though. Luz promised me a Nightcap after that anyway." Once they were seated around Eda's table, and Hypox was given a glass of Eda's 'Human realm stash' they began to explain. "Luz will have to tell us what happened, but for now here's what we had to fix. Mrs. Noceda's lungs were full of so much soot that if Luz hadn't kept her stable till I got here she might have not made it, and she had burns all over her body. Thankfully I know a regenerative spell that will cut down on the burns, and with Luz's help there shouldn't be any scarring, but… if not for Luz allowing me to siphon some of her magic… it could have been a very different story."

Eda looked horrified, "You siphoned some of her magic! Are you insane? Even I know how unethical that is. Did you even tell Luz the risks?"

Hypox looked deeply offended, but it was Luz who answered, "I suggested it. I already knew the risks, and I did it by accident once before Mom. In my case it's actually a lot less dangerous, because I don't have a bile sack, but it still left me winded. Ms. Hypox was against it, but I didn't give her much of a choice." Luz looked away awkwardly. "Anyway, I should probably fill you in on what you missed." Luz spent the next bit telling the two older witches about what had happened, but kept most of her conversation with her Mami out since it wasn't important in her opinion.

Luz was concerned about the concealment stone, but Eda assured her it wouldn't matter since it used ambient magic to work, and without the Isles or Luz nearby to feed it the thing would lose its potency in a few hours. Less if someone tried to use it. Of much bigger concern was Eda and Jacob. Eda took a surprising amount of convincing not to go back through the door and eviscerate the man with her bare hands, but eventually Luz talked her down. As for Jacob they would have to keep an eye out, and it was decided no one was returning to Gravesfield any time soon. Thankfully Eda could alter where the door opened to, but she only knew of one other spot it went to in that realm, a dump in L.A. Eda didn't know why, but in the thirty years she'd had the door it only ever took her to one of those two spots.

Thankfully Luz found she didn't need to return to keep an eye on Jacob. With her laptop, and the door open she was able to follow his arrest and his case as it played out. The Gravesfield ban was made permanent though since it was deemed too much of a risk.

Over the next few days Luz and Eda worked on finishing the tower while Amity or King kept an eye on Camila, and it was due to this that when Camila woke up it was to a green haired girl. Waking up was less than pleasant for the older human, but Amity was ready with cool water and some crackers when she did.

Seeing her stir, Amity gently helped her sit up a bit and get comfortable, and after a few minutes to clear her head Camila asked in a croaky voice, "I'm guessing I'm not in the human realm anymore. You're… Amity, right? What happened, and why does my mouth taste like very burnt popcorn and black licorice?"

Amity gave her a kind smile, "You're back in the Owl House, Mrs. Noceda. Luz brought you here after the fire to get help." Camila looked worried for a moment, but Amity gave her a reassuring look, "Don't worry Luz is fine. Apparently her body naturally handles that kind of thing better than we would. Probably a side effect of being a fire breathing lizard, but mi amor is a strong one even without it, and she did everything she could to save you." Camila noticed Amity's smile as she spoke about Luz, and she couldn't help smiling too. "Luz even managed to convince Professor Hypox to come by and help her make sure you would be ok. The flavor in your mouth is probably from the potion they gave you to help clean any lasting soot from your system. Sadly I can't be sure. Healing and potions were never my forte, but a solid understanding of anatomy is a component of Abominations study. Now that you're up, Luz would probably like to see you. I'll just-"

"No. Not yet." Camila caught Amity's arm. "I think I heard Luz say you were her girlfriend… Maybe we could talk for a while. I knew my mija was bisexual for a long time, but she never really brought anyone home. From what I've seen you care for her alot so I'd really like to get to know you. You must be really special to catch her eye," Camila said sweetly, making Amity blush.

"I-I-I'm not so special, and I'm not anywhere near as great as your daughter is," Amity looked away feeling embarrassed and anxious. "Frankly, if I'd never met Luz I'd probably be dead, and I don't know if I wouldn't have deserved it."

Camila was horrified, but grabbed Amity's hand and reached out to cup her face making Amity wince, which Camila noticed. "Amity… I don't know what you went through, but I doubt that's true. If for no other reason than the fact that you're here right now with me. You are a child, and no matter what you went through or did, you deserve to be happy. I promise you that nothing you could have done could be that bad, but how's about this. You tell me your story, and I'll tell you stories about when Luz was growing up." Amity looked unsure, but nodded while looking terrified. Camila just smiled, "I'll start. When Luz was five she was playing in a park, and found a shed snake skin. Luz being Luz she tried to show it off to the other kids, but they just ran away. I'll never forget how cute she looked as she tried to tell them about how it was ok, and the shed was just its leftover pajamas. Just between us, I still have that shed in an airtight box under my bed…" Camila suddenly got sad, "Or at least it was. After the fire it's probably gone." Amity saw Camila start to tear up, and without thinking she gave her a hug.

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Noceda. I'm sure-" Amity tried to say, but Camila cut her off.

"Just call me Camila, dear. Mrs. Noceda makes me sound like a stranger, and I don't want to be a stranger to the people that make my Luzicita happy," Camila said warmly.

"Ok, well I guess it's my turn, so…" Amity began, and for the next few hours they just talked.

When Luz eventually came to check on Amity and her Mami she found a surprising sight. Camila was awake, and gently stroking Amity's hair as she laid next to her, the young greenette's eyes still red from crying. When she saw Luz enter Camila smiled at her daughter, and gestured for her to sit down on her other side, but stay quiet. Luz did so, but asked in a whisper, "What happened?"

Camila just smiled, "When I woke up I insisted on getting to know Amity, and she indulged me. For the last few hours we have been talking, and… I'm proud of you. It might have cost me my entire album of stories from when you were growing up, but I see it now." Camila winked at Luz, "She's a great girl, even if she refuses to see it herself. Luz, I know you will treat her right, and I look forward to getting to see you two together in the future. She loves you almost as much as I do, so please let me see you and your novia grow into the beautiful woman you will become."

Luz smiled, "Ya, my Ami is… I don't think there are words to describe her correctly." Luz looked at Camila awkwardly as she said, "I'm sorry Mami, but I don't think you should go back to the Human realm. That bastardo Jacob burned down our home, and… Mami, everyone thinks you're dead. If you go back… I don't think I'll be able to see you again anytime soon. You were right when you said that there are too many eyes there, and if you go back they will all be focused on you. I know it's a lot to ask, but I need you to make a decision now. We can open the door, and let you through. You can say you were thrown into the woods or something, and it took this long for you to come back, but it might be months or years before we would see each other again thanks to all the eyes that will be on you. You can go back, and live your old life though."

Camila tried to interject, "Luz-" but Luz just kept going.

"The other option is if you stay here and start over. It might be a bit rough of an adjustment, but I already cleared it with Eda. You could stay here until the dust settles. You wouldn't need to start completely over since everyone here would happily help you out, but if you stay… I don't think either of us can ever go back to stay. There would simply be too many questions, but we wouldn't need to be separated. Things are going to get rough for all of us soon, but having you here. It would mean a great deal to me, but I don't want to be selfish about this. I want you to do what's best for you, and if that means we have to be apart for a while then-" Luz stated through silent tears, until Camila reached up and covered her mouth. Forcing her to stop.

"Mija, it's ok. I'm staying. Even if that man hadn't burned down our home, I refuse to be separated from you again. In all honesty, he probably did me a favor. It's sad that I have to let everyone think I'm dead, but given the choice between that place and you… I will always pick you. Luz, the last month has been the worst of my life, even worse than losing your Papi. I was so scared you might be hurt or dead, and I'd never get to see you again. I never want to feel that way again. Tú eres mi preciosa luz en la oscuridad. You are my precious light in the darkness, and it's time I stop trying to make you something you're not. Amity told me about what you intend to do, and it scares me, but you are your fathers daughter. It's time I accept that you are destined for greater things, so I'll be here when you need me… your majesty," Camila finished with a smirk, and Luz blushed.

"Please, don't… by the way you said you told Amity stories. Please tell me you didn't tell her about the spaghetti incident," Luz groaned.

"Of Mija, I told her and showed her the pictures off my phone. They might be the only pictures left of you from that time, and don't worry she thought they were cute," stated Camila with a cheshire grin.

Luz just sighed before she looked at her Mami in terror, "Wait, how many pictures do you have on there?"

Camila just continued to smile at Luz, "Enough. You didn't think a little fire would stop me from sharing them with my future nuera, did you? Oh, my sweet nina, you know better than that." Luz didn't know whether to blush or cringe, so she settled on cuddling next to her Mami, and soon all three were asleep.

The next day was an interesting one. With the tower almost done it was decided that Operation: Minty Princess would happen at some time in the next week since it would be between semesters, and the free time would give the girls a chance to get comfortable in their new living arrangements. Camila had put her foot down on the matter of the oath since the ritual needed specific reagents to even be attempted, and kids wasn't something that could happen accidently. A simple promise to avoid anything too risque was enough. Given the choice between an accidental teen pregnancy or potential death from breaking the oath Camila felt justified in her position. After that they all shared stories about themselves, and, to Luz's horror, her. While Eda's curse made Camila uneasy, the fact that Luz could more than handle her in that state, and with Amity's help… It was more of an inconvenience than a problem in terms of safety.

Around Lunch there was a knock at the door, followed by Hooty looking scared as he said, "Hoot-hoot, Eda there's someone here to see ya, and… he scares me. Please help, hoot."

Eda snickers and got off the couch, "Well if they spook Hooty… this must be a fun visitor." Opening the door Eda sighed and Amity paled as Bump stood before them. His robes looked only slightly dusty as he looked inside.

Spotting Amity he groaned, "Ms. Blight, you don't look ill, but given the circumstances I'll let it go this time, but I expect you to show up for class from now on. Am I understood?"

Amity nodded quickly, "Yes Principle Bump. Sorry Principle Bump."

Bump sighed, but then smiled, "It's alright. I'm not angry, but you have too much potential to risk throwing it away on something preventable. In the future, just let me know if a situation occurs so I can try to work with you. You are one of our star students, and I know you will make us proud." Turning to Camila, Bump gave a small bow, "I'm guessing you must be the Infamous Camila Noceda. My name is Hieronymus Bump, and as you can guess I am Principle of Hexside School of Magic and Demonics. I'm sorry for the intrusion, but one of my professors, Hypox, mentioned you were here. She refused to give me specifics, which I respect, but in light of Luz's last couple trips to my school I thought it prudent to come meet you."

Camila sighed sadly, "I understand, but before you begin I just want to apologize ahead of time."

This caught Bump off guard, and while only Eda noticed it, it irritated him slightly. Taking an official posture Bump said, "I don't see why that would be necessary. Luz is an outstanding girl with more potential than I have seen in years, if given the proper guidance. I don't know if you were made aware, but it is customary for potential students to go through what we call a Zero day. It allows them to get a feel for our staff, and how we do things. While also allowing us to get a measure of how best to meet their needs. Luz's had to be split over two days due to unfortunate circumstances, but in that time she made quite a name for herself. Ms. Noceda, I regret to inform you that not only are our halls open to Luz, but most of my teachers are at war with each other over who gets to teach her. Your daughter is not only talented, but a true joy to have in class, and anyone who says otherwise doesn't deserve to teach in my humble opinion."

Camila just sat stunned, and Luz blushed. Neither had ever heard anyone from the education system back home speak so highly of Luz before, especially a principle. After a moment to recover Camila reached out and shook his hand. "Thank you for your kind words sir. I'd still like to see your campus at some point, but in the meantime… Luz seems to really want to attend your school this upcoming semester, and after hearing that, I'm inclined to agree. You seem more reasonable than your contemporaries in the human realm, so for now I will choose to trust you, but if anything happens to my little light… I don't care how much magic you have, it won't help you. I failed my Mija once, I won't do it again."

Bump took a half step back under Camila glare as he thought to himself, "How is she scarier than the whole PCA? Ok, Hiero. You can do this. You survived Edalyn, you can do this." Clearing his throat Bump said, "Well with that decided, what track did you choose, Luzara?"

Luz looked away awkwardly, "I… I actually still don't know. If I could I'd take them all, but I know that's not something I can do."

Camila looked surprised, "Why not? I'd think a balanced approach to learning something would be the best way to learn."

Bump sighed, "Technically there is no rule or law against it, but traditionally students pick a single track so that they can Hocus focus on becoming the best they can be at a single type of magic, Ms. Noceda, and under the coven system when a witch graduates they receive a sigil corresponding to the coven they wish to join." Bump reveals his own abomination sigil on his arm. "Said sigil locks them into a single type of magic from then on so spending time learning additional types that they won't be able to cast is often seen as a needless distraction."

Eda scoffs, "And those that choose to not get branded are instead considered 'Wild Witches', like me. We live at the edges of society, and spend our days hunted by the Emperor's Coven. Ironically the only ones allowed to perform all types of magic, but only because they sell out to the Emperor, and act as his enforcers."

Luz groaned, "Mami, for context, imagine the Gestapo from World War II, but usually more bumbling and incompetent." Bump gave her a reproachful look, but Luz just gave him a look, "Sir it's one thing that they can't catch Mom, but I was able to dodge them before I got magic. Aunt Lily might be a different story, but the average Scout isn't very intimidating, and the fact that Amity and I could probably take and hold Bonesbough on our own for hours if we chose to doesn't instile feelings of competence. Obviously that's a hypothetical example because being petrified just to prove a point seems dumb, but my point stands.

Camila looked bewildered hearing all that, but then a thought occurred to her, "If this Emperor's Coven gets to utilize all types of magic, then shouldn't there be a track to prepare students for it. The lack of one could explain why these 'Scouts' come off the way they do. Heck police back home have specific classes they can take, and in an ideal system thats what they should be, right? After all they can't be fully utilizing their potential if they aren't being taught how, why not create a track for those interested?"

Bump thought aloud about it for a moment, "I suppose it could work with the proper measures taken. We would most likely have to put some prerequisites in place to prevent the unprepared from getting overwhelmed, and having a track specifically to prepare future elites could be a great show of dominance over the other schools." Bump sighed, "I can start looking into it for the future, but, at least for now, I need you to pick a single track to start with at the very least."

Luz thought about it hard as she pondered aloud, "Well, given the runes I have so far I can eliminate a few. Namely plants, oracles, illusions, and abominations since they are all completely or mostly beyond me. Bard would be fun, but I don't think it's for me, and frankly if I want to learn potions, I already have the best teacher around here at home." Luz looked at Eda and smiled. "That leaves beast keeping, construction, and healing. In all honesty I don't really have the rune for keeper magic yet, but working with animals just always felt right to me since I was basically raised in a veterinary clinic, a healing center for beasts." Luz clarified for Bump. "I thought I had what I needed for Healing, but recent events showed me that I'm still missing something for top grade spells in that track. Apparently basic healing and mending are fine, but full regeneration is still beyond me. I guess I'll choose construction. It provides an artistic outlet, I have the runes for it, and… ok maybe I also like the excuse to bulk up a bit. What do you think, hermosa? Does that sound reasonable?"

Amity didn't respond right away. She was too lost in thoughts of 'Muscle' Luz, and blushing to respond right away, but when she did she noticed Eda and Camila smirking. "Ya, sounds great Luz. It'll suck not having you in class with me, but at least this way you won't have to compete with me or our friends. Maybe you can make top student there. With Cain graduating at the end of this semester the spot is ready for you to take, and I know 'Iron head' Ibexcov would be thrilled to see you back. He's been hounding me about you during History classes ever since your Zero day. I don't know what you did, but between him, Hypox, and Flaskly there was a running pool to see which would break first, and I think Flaskly might actually cry when he hears about this. Probably best to avoid Boscha though, she's been 'off' ever since your witches duel, and she's not going to bend the knee easily."

Bump having gotten his answer bowed to everyone, "Well with that decided, I should go. Hexside won't run itself, and the 'Star Council' can't be left alone too long." Before Luz could ask, Bump turned and headed out.

Once he was gone Luz turned to Amity, "Star Council?"

Amity laughed, "It's the official name for all the top students. We get together and function as a check to the Teachers. That way if a teacher is acting unfairly, or needs to be replaced Principle Bump has someone to spot it. We act as a guarantee that the students' interests are heard, and help keep things fair. In exchange we get a few extra privileges, like Bump allows me to work part time at the library, and sadly Boscha gets extra leeway on any claims directed toward her of bullying. It's not a perfect system, but we have been putting a tighter leash on Boscha since you were there, and between Viney, Barcus, and I we get a lot more done now. There's talk of Jerbo and the twins giving up their seats to Willow and Gus soon so if you end up as the construction top we basically have the definite majority."

"Ok, so who's the healing and bard tops then? Skara makes sense for Bard, but I don't remember a definitive top of Healing," asked Luz.

"No, you wouldn't have met her. Stena was out those days. Last I heard she got recruited early into the Healing coven, but that could just be rumors. Since you won't be there it will probably be Cat or Bo. Which won't be so bad, and ya Skara is top bard."

Luz smiled, "In that case, I'd better practice my spells. Feel like a bit of sparring, my love?"

Amity smiled, "Anytime my Queen, but let's make this interesting. Winner gets to choose the color of the walls in our bedroom. Sound fair, Noceda?"

Luz blushed, "No fair trying to distract me with the thoughts of sharing a room, but you're on Blight. Prepare to bow to the Queen!"

What followed was the most beautiful and terrifying display of magic Camila had ever seen, and throughout it all Camila had Eda right next to her either giving the older latina a play by play, or occasionally shouting out a tip to either Luz or Amity on something to improve. Camila was awestruck at how in sync the two girls were. To her it seemed more of an intricate wild dance than sparring or fighting, and the fact that they kept sneaking kisses when they found an opening didn't help. Eventually the duo just ran out of steam, and had to call it without determining a winner, but something told Camila they were both holding back, how much she didn't know. In the end they went with black walls, but they added stars in varying colors so that it looked like a beautiful calming night sky.

The rest of the week went by fairly calmly, and when the night came Amity and Luz snuck out to meet Gus for the Night Parade. In preparation for it, Luz had taken it upon herself to get yukata's for them from a shop she found in Little Tokyo on a trip to get stuff for her Mom in L.A. It had been a bit of a task to hide her draconic traits, but the older lady who ran the place was very kind. While the few demon realm residents they pasted seemed confused by their dress, the reactions they received from any yoki they pasted made it worth it. Luz's yukata was royal red with what appeared to be bursts of purple flame and curling black dragons. Gus's was a powder blue with accents of gold and a single black dragon face over his heart that Luz hoped would mark him as under her protection. Amity had gone the extra mile though as she had also used Luz's anime collection to get inspiration. She tied her hair up in a respectful bun as well as washing out out the green dye in it. As she walked with her lilac yukata that displayed violet waves of what appeared to be Abomination goo that flowed like water, and unlike Gus's black dragon face, Amity's was gold with angry burning purple eyes.

As they walked they received nods of approval as they passed, until a familiar fox stepped out of an alleyway and beamed at the trio. Ms. Sune was also in a yukata, but her's was very plain and black. She more than made up for it with the fact that her seven tails were now on full display as she regally glided along like a noblewoman. "It is good to see you, Clawthorn-heika." Ms. Sune gave a respectful bow to Luz, but not so far as to fully lower her head, and a smaller bow, closer to a nod, to Gus. Looking to Amity, Ms. Sune seemed confused, "If you would be so kind, could you introduce me to our other guest. I'm sorry, but I do not recognize her, and I have been very busy of late."

Luz smiled at the kitsune, and returned the respectful bow with Gus before she said, "Well Sune-sensei, it is my pleasure to introduce you to my Amity, or Blight-tsura. When I told her about the parade, and its importance we decided that we would attend together."

Ms. Sune seemed to pale slightly and immediately bowed to Amity at a near right angle as she seemed to almost beg, "I am so sorry. I meant no disrespect, Blight-heika. If I had known I would have immediately shown you the respect due your station. Please allow me to be your guide tonight as penance for my most grievous insult."

Amity looked bewildered, but bowed the way Luz showed her, and at the same depth as Luz's had done. Luz laughed, "It's alright Sune-sensei. It was my mistake not introducing her to you sooner, and we take no insult. In truth neither Gus nor Amity is as versed in Japanese culture as I am, so if we can agree to excuse any unintended slips on their part I believe that we can act as if it never happened."

Ms. Sune brightened at that, "You are most kind Clawthorn-heika. Please follow me. If your companions are as new to our culture as you imply I know the perfect place to start."

As they walked Amity pulled Luz close to her with Gus, "Luz, what are those words she keeps using? I know you told us some, but I'm getting nervous I'm going to embarrass us."

"Ya, Ms. Sune is acting very differently from the other day. Is there something I'm missing?" whispered Gus.

Luz smiled, "Ok, firstly don't worry about embarrassing anyone Ami. This is supposed to be fun, and I can smooth over any snags. Gus, it's a cultural thing. While Ms. Sune can most likely get away with being informal at school, this is a public event that holds important weight in their community. As such proper formality is expected. That's why I taught you the proper way to bow. As for the terms, they are honorifics to designate station, like sensei would be teacher, tsura would be a respectful way of calling Amity my girlfriend, and heika is usually used to denote royalty. As I said the other day, when in doubt silent bowing is usually the best answer, but be aware of how much you do. The deeper the bow the more respect or apology is implied. In formal circles bowing is considered a serious game since properly determining hierarchies can be the difference between life and death."

Gus nodded, as Amity gasped quietly, "So that's why she apologized like that. Since she didn't bow to me, that would be considered a serious mistake."

Luz nodded, "There are stories from human history of similar mistakes that ended up sparking wars, so ya." Luz chuckled, "It's actually a good thing it happened. Now any small mistakes on our part can be forgiven as long as we make an effort, but blatant disrespect would be a very different matter."

"I don't get it though. Why use a term for royalty for you two? That seems odd," asked Gus.

Luz and Amity looked uncomfortable, but Amity decided to answer, "Later. For now let's just have fun." Hurrying to follow Ms. Sune they soon found themselves surrounded by numerous food stands that had been set up for this night only. The trio was overcome by all of the new and unique smells that assaulted their senses as Ms. Sune led them to one stand in particular that was being handled by a tall red weasel looking individual with blade-like fingers, a kamaitachi, that they were using to chop and prepare what they noticed was ramen. Ms. Sune gestured for them to sit at a table that was nearby while she handled talking to the owner.

Amity couldn't help noticing how giddy Luz was as she looked around at everything around her like a little kid, and it made her feel… content. Despite all of the changes that Luz had gone through it was moments like this where Amity saw the odd girl she met in the library, and it made everything worth it. If she could spend her life with this beautiful, smart, dorky, girl then for Amity nothing else mattered. No matter how things changed or how hard things got as long as her Luz was beside her, she would face it all with a smile.

After a few moments Ms. Sune returned with three bowls, one for each of her guests. Gus went to ask what they were, but Ms. Sune beat him to it, "For Gus-san, a light Shio ramen with fresh rainbow razorfin meat. Blight-heika, for you I have Quilboar Miso ramen. A slightly heavier option, but I thought you might enjoy its more hearty flavors, and for Clawthorn-heika, I have Sriracha Ashwing Shoyu ramen made with pain peppers. I hope I am not being too presumptive, but you struck me as an individual who enjoys their spice."

Luz laughed, "You caught me Sune-sensei. My Mami and I used to make a game out of trying to make the spiciest things we could while still keeping them edible. After all, it's a waste if you can't even enjoy the burn."

With that Luz led her friends in a sign of thanks, and hearing the familiar phrase of 'Itadakimasu' seemed to soften Ms. Sune further. While Luz had no difficulty using the provided chopsticks due to years of 'practice' in secret and made ecstatic little noises as she devoured her ramen, Gus and Amity were a bit less coordinated. Amity tried, but after failing a few times she began to tremble slightly as her embarrassment and panic grew, and memories of her times being 'educated' by her mother began to rise. After a moment though she felt Luz take her hand, and gently guide her without scorn or judgment, only tenderness. Soon Amity was using them easier, it was clear she was still having some difficulty, but she was handling it. Gus on the other hand was beyond help, and eventually Ms. Sune simply gave him a fork with a small laugh.

Before they finished though, Amity decided to sneak a kiss in thanks for her amazing girlfriends help, but as soon as she did her eyes started to water as her mouth burned. Amity started to quietly freak out, thinking that she was dying, but Luz knew what to do. Looking around she found her target, and she rushed off only to return with a small bowl of what looked like red shaved ice. After Amity had a few mouthfuls her pain faded, and she looked away only feeling more embarrassed, but Luz took her hands in hers and kneeled before her.

Making sure to keep eye contact Luz apologized, "I'm so sorry, me amor. I should have warned you, but instead I let my excitement get in the way. I know all this is a lot, and it's all so new to you. Heck I never thought I'd find someone who liked me, much less fall in love with the sweetest witch in any world, but I appreciate the fact that you're open to trying all this with me. I love you Ami, and I promise I'll be better at keeping an eye out from now on." Luz smiled faintly, "At least you get to enjoy Bloodberry Kakigori though. Japanese sweet shaved ice was just what you needed to cool off those hot lips."

Amity blushed, and gave Luz a small peck on the head, "I love you to, Luz. You're right it is a lot, but that doesn't matter. I'm here to spend time with you. Everyday with you is another adventure, and that's exactly what I've always wanted. Now, as delicious as that was, why don't we find a few more snacks. My lips are still a little hot…" Amity winked at Luz, "The ramen was good too."

Luz blushed, and stammered making Amity giggle. Soon they were on the move again, and Luz made good on finding Amity some snacks. At one booth they found a Jorogumo woman using her many legs to quickly serve Kraken Takoyai, and at another they met a kind old Tanuki gentleman named Tim Cook and his two grandkids who gave them tri-colored Hanami dango. They didn't just snack as they walked though, Ms. Sune was sure to show them a few games as well, such as Katanuki or a unique form of Shateki where the player has a limited number of tries to knock over different targets using only small magic blasts.

After a couple hours the girls were getting tired so Ms. Sune led them to a small out of the way rest area to take a break. Gus was too excited to stop though so Ms. Sune offered to keep an eye on him as he went to go try his luck at Kingyo Sukui. On the way Ms. Sune had disappeared for a moment and returned with various Mochi's and a couple Matcha green tea's, and as the duo rested and enjoyed the starry night above they suddenly heard a disturbance… Gus yelling for help.

As they jumped up to rush to his aid both girls felt dizzy, and saw a couple dozen birdmen with long noses, Tengu, appear out of the shadows in all black clothing. Back to back Amity and Luz tried to fight the ninja tengu, and together they did well… for a while. Amity alternated between offense with her goo gauntlets and abomi-sword, and defense as she summoned walls of abomination matter to protect Luz and herself. This gave Luz the chance to focus on offense exclusively, and between her King constructs and her fire breath on top of Amity's aid they managed to hold their own and defeat most of their assailants, but the longer they fought the harder they found it to focus on their spellwork. Eventually it proved too much and they both passed out.

When Luz woke up she found herself bound in magic chains, and kneeling before a raised dais. On it was a large figure with broad shoulders and a clearly powerful frame wearing intricate black robes with blue flame designs and a red oni mask that was held in place by a simple cord and their horns which seemed to thread through it. Beside the figure, looking ashamed, was a kneeling Ms. Sune. Before Luz could start yelling, Ms. Sune started to speak, "I apologize, Clawthorne-heika, but my master the honorable Enma-sama commanded I bring you forth, and their will is my command." As she spoke, Ms. Sune never looked at Luz, and only proceeded to bend until her forehead touched the floor.

Luz scoffed, "I will admit, this feels like a severe betrayal, but I don't blame you Sune-sensei. I forgive you. After all you are only doing what you believe you must…" Luz continued to stare down Enma as she spoke flatly, but with a small bite, "But I will point out I would have come willingly if you had asked. On that note you will have to excuse me Enma-san. I would bow, but these chains make that very difficult." Ms. Sune flinched at Luz's choice of honorifics, but remained where she was. Off to the side though Luz spotted Gus and Amity in a similar chained position, and flanked by a pair of the tengu each, with blades at their throats.

Gus seemed terrified, but Amity remained outwardly calm, and only looked to Luz while trying to show as much poise and strength as she could muster. Luz saw the fear in her eyes, but also a sense of complete trust. Amity believed in Luz, and that was enough to help Luz remain calm, and controlled. From the dais came the sound of a snap, and the blades were removed, but not sheathed.

Returning her eyes to their 'host', Luz heard them say in a rumbling voice, "I required a display of your abilities, Clawthorn-chan, and so far I am impressed. You and Blight-kun did very well against those I sent to test you, and due to that I have an offer for you." Luz could almost hear Enma smirk, and a touch of… giddiness. "A choice. There are three of you, and seeing as I am a kind Enma, I will allow at most two of you to leave, but the remainder will stay to serve me." This caused gasps and looks of fear from all three. A small chuckle could be heard from the large oni, "Sune-senpai has told me that Porter-kun is quite the skilled illusionist. Leave him and I can guarantee you he will not be harmed. In time perhaps he can function as my representative to your court, if you ever manage to create one. Blight-kun could serve a similar role in time I'm sure, but I will not lie… I want you, Clawthorn-chan."

"Don't do it Luz! Take Gus and go. I'll return to you somehow. I promise," yelled Amity.

Enma simply ignored the outburst as they continued, "Think about it. My court is already in place, and strong. With your power we can rid the Isles of Belos, the betrayer." The amount of venom present in that one name could be felt by all. "What's more, in my court you would be honored… respected…. I will not strip you of your title. Be my Queen, Clawthorn-chan. Together we can accomplish so much." Noticing Luz's silence, Enma added, "If you wish, Blight-kun may join as well. I understand that you have named her your tsura, and that need not change. I would never force you to leave behind the person you love. Now a decision must be made, Clawthorn-chan. What is your answer?"

Unbeknownst to anyone else in the room, another conversation was happening within Luz's head, and once it was done Luz thought, "You had better be sure about this Oscura." I am hatchling. The Old Laws are clear in this case. Looking up at Enma definitely, Luz stated, "I choose none. In accordance with the Old Laws, I challenge you, Lord Enma, to a Duel for our freedom."

The room was silent for a minute before Enma stood to their full eight foot height, and laughter could be heard as they approached Luz. "I accept your challenge Clawthorn-chan, but I hope you know what you're doing. Win and you may all go free with my sincerest apologies, but if I win… all three of you are mine from this day forward." Luz nodded in understanding, and her chains dissipated. From the shadows emerged four figures in blank masks, and as one they sat and spun circles creating a protective transparent wall between the combatants and the spectators. "Since I am the challenged, I will set the terms. You may use anything and everything at your disposal including your magic. The fight will end when either my back makes contact with the floor, or you are too exhausted to continue. I will only defend myself. After all, I would hate to harm my future Queen."

With the terms set the fight began. Trying to make this fast, Luz spun her circles, and created her twin dragons and Komainu. While they provided pressure Luz began setting up her light show. For the first minute, Luz's plan seemed to be working. Her constructs were forcing Enma to dodge and weave around their attacks, and Gus cheered them on, but everyone else saw the truth. Enma was simply playing along, their maneuvers were clean and fluid. That ended though as Enma reached out, and caught the Komainu by their napes. In one smooth motion they slammed them together and turned them into pebbles. As the dragons attempted to breath fire, Enma spun a pair of circles, and forced their fire back down their maws causing them to combust. Luz groaned, and focused on finishing her preparations while Enma dusted off their hands.

"Impressive work, and the breath attacks are a nice choice, but you will need far more to conquer me, Clawthorn-san," laughed Enma.

Luz growled, and her eyes began to burn, "Fine, you want a show. I'll give you a show, but watch out for the hazards."

With the dozens of light orbs in place Luz started the show by firing a few light beams into the web that started to bounce, split, merge, and rain down all around Enma. With the same grace as before, Enma began to dodge, but gave a little yawn in the process. Once the web was maintaining itself, the first improvement Luz had made after her field test against Boscha, Luz surprised everyone by drawing a pair of circles that hovered before her, and began firing wind and fire blasts into them, but instead of simple exiting out the other side they emerged randomly out of the ceiling, floor, and walls in the form of flame pillars and razor winds. This seemed to force Enma into taking the situation seriously as their dodges became more frantic, and no longer nearly as elegant. After a particularly strong air blade hit the floor from the ceiling a small cloud of dust formed for a few seconds, only for a large light blast to fly through and slam into Enma mask. With it gone they got a look at Enma's face, and she was beautiful.

Enma looked to be in her late teens with glacial blue skin, and silky black hair that Luz had at first mistaken as part of her mask, and she looked positively ecstatic by what was going on by the looks of her wide smirk and happy laugh that no longer sounded as deep or rumbling. Instead it sounded breezier, and warmer despite her wintery continence. With one hand she created a wave of fire around her to burn away the light orbs, and once they were gone she stomped her foot, and caused a layer of ice to form along every surface of their battlefield. To Luz's surprise her 'hazards' no longer appeared after being fired into her circles. Almost like Enma's ice was blocking or devouring them. Instead a snow storm started forming, and only got stronger with every spell Luz tried to cast. On top of that, it was getting cold… really cold.

Enma didn't seem fazed though, she simply smiled and cooed, "Oh sweet Titan Clawthorn-san, that was cool." She seemed to ponder something before asking, "Can I call you Luz, please? Calling you by your family name just seems so impersonal. I really like you, and I want you to like me." Luz seemed kind of confused, but shrugged that she didn't care, which caused Enma to smile broadly. "Thanks, Luz-san. I hope you don't take losing too personally. My family has been using this challenge to 'win' their queens for generations. I know that sounds bad, but it's not, I promise. 'Sometimes one can only see someone's true heart on the battlefield', and that is what this challenge is all about. Usually though the walls are burning instead of frozen, but I like this better. Maybe it's my Mom's influence, she was a yuki-onna by the way, but I prefer the cold, and nobody's ever beaten it so… can you just give up? I really don't want to hurt you. Honestly, at first this was only going to be a political thing, but… you're actually really cute and smart, and if Blight-kun is half as cool as you… maybe having two queens wouldn't be so bad."

Luz shook her head, but couldn't help getting infected by this girl's giddy happy energy. Despite the circumstances, Luz didn't hate her. She wasn't going to accept defeat, but maybe after Luz won they could still be friends. "Sorry Enma-kun. I can't do that. You seem nice, but my heart belongs to only one girl, and that's Amity. Maybe when I win we can form some kind of alliance instead." Amity blushed at Luz's words, and smiled ear to ear.

Enma sighed, "Sorry Luz-kun, I can't do that. I would if I could, but I'm not allowed to do that unless we are of similar status. Until you actually have a court, my hands are tied, but it won't be a problem once you join mine."

Luz matched Enma's sigh, but instead of answering she started spinning circles again, and focused on creating as much heat and fire as she could. Unfortunately the more magic she pumped out the more the storm grew until it was a blizzard, and Luz started getting colder until she was freezing and couldn't see anymore. It was a complete white out, but despite everything she refused to give up. There had to be a way to win. Luz found herself thinking if only she could take control of the storm. Then she could win, and then as if answering her call, a new rune appeared to her.

Outside all of the spectators were getting nervous. This match was taking longer than expected, and it was frankly getting dangerous for Luz. Enma was fine, she was almost immune to the cold, but Luz wasn't. If this didn't end soon, Luz might die or lose limbs from the cold alone, but then they all felt a pressure grow in the room, and the walls that kept them safe began to bow and warp until they shattered, releasing the pressure and ending the storm. When they looked they saw a stunned Enma and a tired, but standing Luz. As they watched, Luz started forming spikes of ice out of the frozen floor, and eventually one caught her as one of her feet got frozen to the ground. As she fell, Enma twisted though, and managed to only land on her shoulder, not her back. Letting out a frustrated groan, Luz continued her assault, but Enma was careful not to get caught again. She became so focused on not getting her feet caught she missed Luz making a circle with one of her own feet. Suddenly the fight was over, as from behind her a section of floor folded up, and slapped her on the back. Luz had won, and with her victory in hand Luz passed out.

When Luz woke up the room was back to its original state, and she felt a familiar hand running through her hair. Looking up she saw Amity's golden eyes and smiling face looking back at her, "Did you have a nice nap, my love?" Looking around Luz saw Gus off to the side with Ms. Sune and Enma as he showed off his illusions much to Enma's joy. The Ice was gone, and so were all of the guards and masked figures. Luz felt sore all over, but she didn't feel nearly as cold as she knew she should. For now, Luz just wrote it off as Amity's warm presence helping her get back to normal.

Sitting up, Luz snorted, "Figures, he gets kidnapped, and still manages to come out on top. So are we free to go now? As much as napping in my love's lap is… amazing. We should probably be getting back home. Otherwise both of my Mom's will ground me."

Gus, Enma, and Ms. Sune came over at Luz's yelling, and they all smiled. Enma was the one who spoke though, "Ya, you all can go if ya want, but if you could stay for a few more minutes… I'd really appreciate it."

Luz sighed, and made herself comfortable which only made Amity blush hard, "I think we can drop the formalities, if that's alright with you. I'm too tired to be 'polite', but I like you too much to allow myself to be straight up rude. Is that ok, Enma-kun?"

Enma giggled, "Sure Luz. It's just us here now, and we make the rules. So, I understand you want to get going, but before you do, can you promise me you won't tell anyone where our secret base is? If Boo-los learns where we are, he'll try to wipe us out… again, and that always sucks. Secondly, I'm sorry we can't form that alliance, but I was being serious. I literally can't. Being in charge sucks sometimes, but my offer stands to join me. On the other hand, if you manage to form a real court, I'm all over the alliance idea, but until then Anistasha and I were talking, and she's going to return to Hexside. If you need to talk, she knows how to reach out safely. Officially it will be to keep an eye on you, but that's just political crap."

Luz smirked, "Anistasha?"

Ms. Sune blushed, "It's my real name, but if you could just continue to call me Ms. Sune or Kitty, I'd appreciate it. So, I gotta ask. When did you learn ice magic?"

"How long was I out?" asked Luz.

Ms. Sune thought about it, "About ten minutes. Why?"

"Cuz I got the Ice rune, about eleven minutes ago then," declared Luz much to everyone's shock. "Ya, I found it in the snow storm. It's odd, that's the second time a rune has come to me when I was fighting. Maybe I should pick more fight's," laughed Luz, only to get a knock on the head from Amity.

"Not funny. If you don't stop scaring me, I'm going to put a collar on you," groaned Amity.

"You promise," winked Luz, making Amity overheat. "Anyway, why do you ask, teach?"

"Well, actually that rune was specifically given to our court to guard in ages past by the old dragon court. I was just wondering how you found it, but I guess it doesn't matter. On a lighter note, you shouldn't have any issues making illusions anymore, since most take advantage of either heat, wind, or ice magic to work. Knowing you though you'll find some incredible new use for it and blow us all away. It seems to be your secret skill," shrugged Ms. Sune.

Deciding that any other 'heavy talk' could wait, the trio of Luz, Amity, and Gus started to head out, but on their way out Gus spoke up, "So Amity filled me in a bit while you were out Luz, and I want to join your Court. You're one of my best friends, and I want to help you in any way I can. As a matter of fact, I really liked the idea of being a 'representative'. My original dream was to be 'Ambassador to the Human Realm' so maybe I could be your master of illusions and Ambassador to the Yokai in the meantime. I got to talking with some earlier, and I think it could help me get closer to my overall dream."

Luz smiled, "If you're sure this is what you want Gus then I don't have a problem with it. Thought's Amity?"

"Sounds great to me, but be careful. Willow might turn us into mulch if anything happens to you," said Amity with a teasing smile.

"In that case, I name you Master Augustus Porter, master of Illusions and Ambassador in training. Welcome to the Court of Owls… nope, that won't work. I'll figure it out later. For now your first task is to figure out how we are going to not get grounded cuz that looks like sunrise," smiled Luz, before ending with a long sigh.

After a moment they all shared another sigh, and started their way down the Knee.

Author Notes: Starting off hard this chapter. Thanks to magic Camila has almost no scarring from the incident, and is fine physically. For context since it didn't make sense to explain it in chapter, 'siphoning magic' can cause damage to a witches bile sack if not done properly, kind a like a poorly done spinal tap can cripple someone. Luz doesn't have one so it is both less and more dangerous for her… the heart is a sturdy organ though.

For the record I don't know if there will be any Amphibia later, but I'm leaving that door open. The reason Camila's mouth tasted like black licorice is because I find it disgusting. Feel free to imagine it as something else if you can think of a worse tasting candy though.

You can try to convince me otherwise, but Amity immediately attaching herself to Camila makes perfect sense. Camila is everything that Luz is in terms of kindness, and warmth in a convenient motherly shape. She is almost designed to be Amity's kryptonite, and Camila being a Lumity stand is canon regardless of reality.

A big part of Luz's 'leadership profile' going forward is choice. She might give you her opinion, but she never forces anyone to do anything if she can avoid it. Fun fact: I love a good teacher, and Bump is the perfect example. I will never miss the chance to let him be awesome.

Also Luz doesn't ask Amity for permission, nor does Amity tell her what to do. Luz reaches a conclusion and then verifies it with Amity… that's healthy communication, and it's something that will crop up later once Luz's inner council forms. Also 'iron head' isn't an insult. It's a title or term of respect, thus is why Bump doesn't correct Amity.

So I had a lot of fun with the 'Night parade' section, and I did my best to be respectful of the culture. No offense is intended. I was going for a yakuza or royal feeling with Luz's yukata. Something that gives an aura of power and respect, ya know. For the record Ms. Sune intentionally didn't bow to Amity right away in order to sell her need to guide them as an 'apology'. She did not intend the offense to be as large as it was though, she really didn't realize Lumity were together. Yes, I did make a Tom Nook reference. As for what Katanuki is, it's a game involving sugar paper and trying to not break it while releasing a design. Look it up, it's kinda cool.

Enma was a unique challenge for me. She needs to have a certain feeling to her, but balancing it was tough. TBH her initial attempts at convincing Luz to join her are supposed to feel kinda not great, but that literally isn't her intent. It was a business transaction like most arranged marriages, nothing more. FTR Enma is seventeen so do with that what you will. The only reason Luz beat Enma's challenge was because Enma messed up by changing the element. Heat leads to dizziness and difficulty thinking which prevents anyone from seeing the easy solution. Cold doesn't do that, and can actually make thinking sharper as the body sends heat and adrenaline to counter it.

Well that about does it. Shine on beautiful readers. Shine on.
