After dinner, when the children went upstairs to get ready to bed, Frank came over to his father handing him a glass of scotch.
"Thank you, Francis," Henry thanked his son and took the glass from him surprised that he brought glass only for him.
"Dad, do you think you could stay here tonight, just in case?" He asked his father.
"You think it's that bad?" His father stared at him in surprise.
"I don't know, I'm going to check on Jamie now, but in case I had to take him to hospital later, I would rather if you could stay with the kids, especially Joe." His son responded, tiredness and worry evident in his voice.
"Of course, I will stay! I wouldn't want it otherwise!" Henry announced firmly.
"Thank you, pop," Frank said giving his father weak thankful smile.
"Now go check on your boy," Henry commanded.

Frank slowly opened the door to Jamie's room. He walked over the room to the bedside table and turned on the light. And then he saw them. His two sons sleeping in each others arms. But to his own surprise it wasn't Joe whom he found in Jamie's bed but it was his older brother Danny. He was once again taken by his kids affection. Frank gently shook Danny's arm.
"Dad, what...," mumbled Danny sleepily.
"Danny what are you doing here," asked his father.
"Just came to check on the little one and I guess I just thought that he would like me to read a story for him. Guess I felt asleep." Hey replied honestly.
"He looks calm and comfortable with his big brother," chuckled Frank.
"Yeah, I think that even though he is sleeping he somehow knows that we are here with him," Danny stated wisely.
"Sure he does," his father reaffirmed him.
"Dad, don't tell anyone about this," Danny sudden said.
"You want me not to tell anyone that you care for your little brother?" Frank asked surprised.
"Pretty much," Danny stated.
"All right if that's what you want than I won't tell, but just you know, I think if Joe knew how much you love and care for Jamie it could smooth things between you two." His father tried to convince him.
"I think he is too little to understand," Danny shook his head.
"Maybe he might surprise you if you tried to explain it to him. Just do me a favor and promise me that you will think about it, OK?" He asked his son.
"Alright, I will dad," he assured his father.
"Ok, we need to wake up Jamie now and check his temperature and give him his meds." Frank said.
"Hey Jamie, wake up," Danny called his baby brother gently stroking his hair.
"Jamie," his father tried.
After few attempts the boy started to wake up. First thing he saw was his big brother's face.
"Danny, " he grouched sleepily.
"Hey kiddo, how are you feeling?" Danny asked his little brother.
"Jamie, I need to check your temperature now," his father informed him carefully placing the thermometer under his armpit.
Jamie shivered.
"Danny, could you please try to hold him still?" Frank enquired his oldest one.
"Sure," responded Danny. "Hey Jamie, you have to stay still so we can measure your body temperature," he tried to keep his little brother calm.
"Don't want to," Jamie protested probably because he was too tired and feverish.
"I know son, but you are ill and we need to see how you are doing," Frank tried to reason with him.
"Hey Jamie, look what do I have, " Danny came to help pulling out a picture book from the night stand showing it to Jamie.
"Let's have a look at it," Danny suggested enthusiastically trying to get his brother's attention.
"Look, what's that? Do you know the name of this animal," he asked his brother.
But Jamie just nodded starting to sob.
"Danny, I think he is just too tired," his father informed his oldest with sad look on his face taking the thermometer out from Jamie's armpit. He looked at it and frowned. It was now 104,9.
"Dad?" Danny called towards his father.
"His temperature got slightly higher," he said to Danny anxiety growing in him.
Danny looked alarmed.
"It can happen," Frank who had more experiences how to deal with kids with fever that Danny tried to assure his oldest.
"The thing is it takes time for the meds to start working so before they do the temperature can get bit higher." He explained to Danny.
Jamie was now fully crying out of exhaustion.
"Ok Danny, give me Jamie," Frank asked his son.
Danny carefully took the screaming child handing him over to his father. Frank took his little one into his loving arms and started to rub his back trying to hush him down.
"Danny, it's getting late and tomorrow is school day, why don't you go to sleep," he said to his son not really suggesting to him but rather asking him to do so.
"What about him?" Danny pointed at his brother.
"I will spend the night with him so I can keep an eye on him," he assured his son planting a kiss on Jamie's head.
"Alright, good night dad," said Danny who was about to leave the room.
"Good night son," Frank replied.
Danny stopped at the entrance of the door and turned back to his father.
"Ehm, dad...,"
"What is it Danny?" he asked with Jamie still in his arms.
"I love you...And I love Jamie too." He said happy to have his family.
"I love you too son," Frank smiled at him.

Frank didn't know what woke him up but he found himself dozing in the armchair in his son's room. He must have fall asleep while reading a book. He looked at the clock. It was almost midnight. He looked at his youngest son's sleeping form. Jamie was having a restless sleep. He was tossing and turning all around. Frank sighed as he approached his son's bed. He placed his hand on Jamie's forehead. It was literally burning. Frank was immediately fully awake. He tried to wake up Jamie so he would be able to measure his temperature, but Jamie was barely conscious. In fact he was hallucinating. Frank took his child, his baby, onto his lap holding him still so he could measure his temperature. The thermometer showed 105,8. He was instantly on his feet. Carrying Jamie in his arms downstairs where he run into his father who obviously hasn't gone to bed yet.
"Francis, what's going on," he asked his son with all armed voice.
"I'm taking Jamie to the hospital straight away. He has got fever of 105,8 and is hallucinating," Frank explain. "Dad, stay with the children, please," he continued.
"Of course I will, don't worry," replied Henry with his eyes wide open.
"Poor baby," he said. "Francis, do you have everything?" He wanted to make sure.
"I think so, Jamie's health book and vaccination certificate, my wallet, keys..." he named.
"Alright, call me when you know something, son," he requested.
"I will dad," said Frank as he left the house.
