Ben went on the job with Bella. He didn't bring her along for the Decade Quest because he didn't know how dangerous it was. It turned out to be less dangerous than he thought. Maybe it was because his power was very compatible with that job, it was so easy.
The current job might be a lot easier because it's a normal S-Class job. Their job is to hunt 3 demons that destroyed 2 towns in the Bosco region. Those 3 demons have been confirmed to be demons from the Book of Zeref.
Bosco's mages have tried to slay the demons, but those demons were strong. They also disappeared without a trace after destroying the 2 towns. That's why the job is to hunt the demons, not just subdue them because no one knew where the demons went.
"Isn't this exciting, Bella? We'll hunt creatures like the good old days. The difference is we hunted animals for food and now we're hunting demons." Ben said.
"Hunt milk." Bella exclaimed, extending her paws out to Ben.
"Ye-yeah, we've hunted milk too because we were running out of milk for you." Ben sweat dropped and gave Bella a bottle of milk from his spacial storage. She has a lot in her storage bag, but she rarely takes hers out and often asks for the ones Ben keeps stored away.
Anyway, they arrived in Bosco after a day, and they head to the Bosco Council building to confirm their arrival. To their surprise, many other mages are taking this job. It paid well, and there's no limit on job applicants because they need to find the demons fast.
Almost everyone there recognized Ben, but he didn't recognize anyone there. None of his acquaintances seemed to take this job. It really didn't matter because he didn't come here to meet up with his friends.
Ben and Bella immediately leave after receiving the details of the job. They immediately head to the 2nd town that was attacked. Ben didn't want to lose the traces of these 3 demons. It will be harder to find them if the traces have disappeared.
The destruction in the 2nd town was horrible, almost all the buildings had been destroyed. It's even worse then the first town because a fight between strong mages and the demons took place. There weren't as many casualties here because the fight gave the civilians a chance to escape.
Ben didn't waste time and immediately looked for a trace of the Etherious. As a Devil Slayer, his senses are attuned to the traces of demons, so he found them right away. He grabbed Bella and moved quickly to follow the traces into the wilderness outside of town.
Many people that recognized Ben planned on following him. He is a well-known Dragon Slayer and a Wizard Saint. So they all know that he has keen senses and they want to make use of that to find the demons by following him.
Ben realized it as well and he couldn't care less about them. None of these stalkers would be able to follow him when he ran off to follow the traces. They can't keep up with his speed which is faster than people that use Speed Magic.
After running for almost a hour at high speed, Ben finally found the demons' location. It's in a cave within a mountain far away from the 2nd town. The cave was rather close to a town and the demons kept moving after they destroyed the previous town, so Ben assumed they would attack the town soon.
"Good thing I found them first. More people will die if these demons weren't found soon." Ben said as he stared at the cave from the shadows in the forest.
"Fight?" Bella asked.
"Yeah we'll fight, if they're still alive later." Ben said with a grin.
He went to the cave entrance and spread his strong magic sense. He made sure there were only demons inside because his plan will kill anything inside the cave. Unfortunately, there were signs of other living beings besides the demons.
"It seems that we can't burn the whole cave down. Let's go inside to see if the living beings are humans or other creatures." Ben said.
They enter the cave Bella resting on Ben's head like usual. Ben used the magic that he had created to hide their presence. With this magic, they can enter the cave without having to worry about being discovered by the demons.
Ben continued using his strong magic sense and finally found the demons. There were people wearing black robes in the same room as them. They are kneeling to the demons, so Ben immediately knew who these people are.
'Demon worshipers. Tch, and here I thought they were innocent civilians. I should've resorted to that plan.' Ben thought, pissed off.
He tossed that plan out when more demon worshipers entered the room from a different tunnel. Behind them were some children that had been chained up. There were signs of abuse on the children's bodies which made Ben furious.
"Bastards! I planned to give you all an easy death, but it seems you would prefer a painful one." Ben said with a furious tone.
Ben didn't want to waste any more time and flashed over to the demon worshipers who pulled the children along. There were 4 of them and Ben incinerated them all in one sweep. They scream in agony because their bodies were burned and finally everyone in the room was alerted to Ben's presence.
The demon worshipers and the Etherious look at him with hostility, but he ignores them. He approached the children but they all back off because they are scared of him. He sighed and told Bella to approach the children.
"Is okay. Ben help, Bella help. You go home." Bella said confidently with a serious face that looks cute.
"W-We can go home?" The oldest-looking boy asked.
"Oi, we save you." Bella said.
The children seemed to believe Bella, but they were still afraid of Ben. Bella looked harmless, so the children weren't too afraid of her, and believe her more than Ben. If Ben didn't suddenly incinerate the demon worshipers, they might not be afraid of him.
But he was too angry because these demon worshipers had the nerve to get children involved. He then sighed.
"Bella, go to the corner with them and use your barrier amulet. I will take care of the baddies." He said.
Bella nodded and told the kids to follow her to the corner. They do as she says and go to a corner. Then Bella activated the new barrier amulet that Ben made a few months ago. It creates a big transparent yellow barrier that protects all the children.
"Kids, was there anyone besides you that were captured?" Ben asked.
The children were still wary of him even though they knew he was helping them. But then the oldest boy stands up and talks to Ben even though he is still quite scared. He is the oldest, so he knew he had to be the bravest.
"Th-there are other children in the room where we gathered before. So-some children left that room before us, but they never returned." The boy said.
Ben frowned before he looked at the demons giggling and the worshipers smirking.
"Bella, go with the children where they were placed before. My clones will follow you, so don't worry and focus on maintaining your barrier." Ben said as he created 7 clones.
Bella nodded and then she left the room with the children. Some demon worshipers try to attack them, but Ben defeated them easily without killing them. He just hits them 'lightly' because he doesn't want to kill them yet.
After Bella and the children left, Ben blocked their path off with a firewall. Then he finally asked, "Where are the children you took before them?"
The one who answered Ben's question wasn't a demon worshiper, but one of the demons that looked like a young man with purple hair. The other 2 demons who looked hideous before also transform into humans, one looks like a butler while the other one looks like a little girl.
"Why don't you make me talk about it?" The purple-haired demon smugly asked.
That smug expression suddenly disappeared because Ben grabbed his face and slams him into the wall behind him. "Feel like talking now?"
Ben didn't wait for an answer and threw the purple-haired demon at the other demons who rush towards him. He cracked his knuckles.
"Let's see how long you can hold long because I can do this all day." He said.
