Chapter 3
Powers Awaken
Aaron, Catherine, and Dareth were sitting by a fire having a meal.
That's when Catherine noticed Matt wasn't with them and asked, "Where's Matt?"
That's when the three amphibians heard screaming coming from the other side of the wagon. They went to investigate and saw Matt screaming really loudly and obnoxiously. After screaming for a while, he stopped and caught his breath. He turned and saw the others standing there.
"What are you doing?" asked Aaron.
"I'm trying to activate my anime powers in command," Matt replied.
"And what makes you think screaming would do that?" asked Dareth.
"Well," Matt explained.
Flashback
One day during the summer between Sixth and Seventh Grade, Matt was hanging out with Marcy at her place. The two nerds were binge watching an anime.
At some point, the main character screamed and activated these glowy powers, allowing them to do crazy things.
At some point, Matt asked a stupid question. "Do you ever imagine yourself getting these crazy powers?"
"I thought about it," Marcy replied. "It sounds cool, but let's be realistic. There's no way that's gonna happen."
End of Flashback
"So that's seriously why you thought that would work?" asked Dareth. "Because of this 'anime'?"
"Yes, yes I did," Matt replied.
After a while, the gang kept moving.
Once they stopped again, Matt tried to activate his powers once again. This time, he tried punching a tree, hoping he'd form a ball of energy that would break the tree. Sadly, that didn't work, and he ended up breaking his knuckles instead.
After that incident, the amphibians brought Matt back into the wagon. Catherine patched the wounds on Matt's fist.
"What were you thinking?" she scolded. "In what world is punching a tree that hard a good idea?"
"You don't understand!" Matt argued. "I need to understand these powers! I can't risk inadvertently hurting someone I care about with them!"
As he said that, his eyes glowed teal. The fear of hurting someone was overwhelming him, and he was losing control again. He was about to attack, purely on instinct.
Aaron stepped in, worried for his friend. He grabbed Matt's hand, attempting to calm him down.
Matt felt relieved, and he took deep breaths. He regained control of himself. His eyes reverted back to normal. He was still scared knowing he could've done something.
Aaron hugged Matt and assured him, "I know things are scary right now, but I assure you, we can get through this. We just need to take things slowly."
Matt nodded in understandment.
A.N.
Now this was a chapter I had more fun writing.
That first scene with Matt screaming was inspired from the Owl House, when Eda tried to use screaming to activate her harpy mode on command. I definitely enjoyed writing that part.
Everything else was completely improvised, but despite that, I still had more fun writing this chapter than the last two combined.
Anyway, that's all for now, and I'll see you next time.
