No, it's a lie! I'm human, I'm not a demon!' Natsu's thoughts were running wild. Zeref had just told him that he was E.N.D. 'It's not possible, it's not!'
Zeref smiled at him. "I had all of this planned from the very start. Your whole life is in this book because I knew exactly how it was going to play out. I knew Igneel wouldn't keep his end of our deal and I also knew that he was going to rename you Natsu Dragneel. That's why I labeled the book E.N.D, it stands for Etherious Natsu Dragneel since that is your name now. Your birth name would have been Koji if you didn't die as soon as you were born but your dear old brother here brought you back to life, only to have you kill me and you along with me…but I've given up on that now. You don't have to kill me…if you don't want to, that is."
Natsu blinked. "Deal? What deal?! Igneel would never make a deal with a monster like you!"
"I know, that's exactly what he said but right after I told him that you were a demon that I wanted dead but couldn't do it myself, he agreed." Natsu's eyes widened. "...What?"
Zeref smirked. "That's right Natsu. That dragon who you call father was going to kill you. I saved Igneel from Acnologia so he would owe me a favor and brought you to him, begging him to kill you. He agreed and in return I would leave him and the other dragons alone. If you didn't wake up when you did, I have no doubt that Igneel would have killed you that day in cold blood."
Natsu was shaking now, his mind spinning. "N-No, Igneel wouldn't do that! He would never harm a human!" Zeref sighed. "I told you, E.N.D, you're not human. I told Igneel that you were going to grow into the evilest and most powerful demon I have ever created. That's why he agreed to kill you because you're a demon, but you somehow made it into his heart, and he raised you as his son instead."
Suddenly, a memory popped in Natsu's head. A memory he had long forgotten, the day he met Igneel.
…
Flashback
"Whoa! You can talk?!"
Igneel stared at Natsu for a moment before sighing and walking away. He muttered something under his breath, but Natsu couldn't hear it. Natsu ran after him. "Hey, wait! What's your name?!"
Igneel only growled at him. "Leave brat before I kill you!" Natsu wasn't scared in the slightest and continued to follow him. "But I don't have anywhere to go, and I don't remember anything." That's when he realized that he didn't even know what his name was. "Hey, do you know what my name is?"
Igneel glared at him. "E.N.D…Now leave!"
End of Flashback
…
Natsu shook his head. He doesn't remember what happened after Igneel had told him his name was E.N.D, the rest of it was fuzzy. Zeref smirked even more. "You remembered that day, didn't you? Do you believe me now?"
"SHUT UP!!" Natsu snapped. "I'm going to take you down right now!" Natsu then charged at him. "If you kill me then you will die too, remember?" Zeref warned.
"I DON'T CARE!!"
Happy immediately flew down. "NATSU!! NO!!" He grabbed Natsu and carried him off before he could kill Zeref.
…
At the fairy tale guild,
"They need help!" Mavis shouted. "On it!" Elfman said and took off running. Mavis looked at Igneel whose head was in the window. "Igneel, do you smell any more ships coming?"
Igneel took a moment to sniff around outside and went back in the window. "No, but I smell my fellow dragons coming, they should be here very soon." Mavis nodded. "Good, we need all the help we can get!"
Happy immediately flew in with Natsu who was scowling. "Natsu, are you alright?! What happened?!" Wendy asked, worriedly but Natsu said nothing, he just continued to walk in the guild.
Igneel frowned at this. "Natsu?" Natsu stopped and looked at him. "Don't you mean E.N.D?"
Igneel's and everyone in the guild's eyes widen in shock. Igneel struggled to speak. "He…told you?" Natsu growled at him. "He told me a lot of things! That he was my brother, that me and the other dragon slayers are from 400 years in the past, and he told me that you agreed to kill me! Why did you hide this from me?! How could you?!"
Everyone froze, not really knowing what to do or to say. Igneel swallowed. "Natsu, please, I did it to protect you." Natsu glared at him but said nothing and stomped away.
Happy went to Igneel. "Igneel, isn't there another way to take down Zeref because if we kill him, Natsu will die as well!" Igneel looked shocked. "What?!"
Mavis gasped when she heard beeping coming from the screen. "We'll have to discuss that later! More ships are coming!"
Igneel looked at his son's friend. "Happy, go make sure Natsu is alright. I'm going to help the others." Happy nodded and went to Natsu.
"First Master, do you think-"
"NATSU!!"
Master Makarov was interrupted by a crying scream. Erza, Wendy, Makarov, and Carla ran to it. Igneel was too big to fit into the guild, so he went around and went to another window. He gasped at the sight. His son was face down on the floor as Happy was crying and Lucy was shaking him in desperation.
Igneel burst his head through the window, breaking it into pieces. "What happened?!" Happy sobbed. "I-I don't know! He was fine and then he just fell down! I don't know what's wrong!"
"Natsu, please don't die!" Lucy cried.
Igneel's jaw shook, and he clenched his fangs. "...Zeref…" He whispered, darkly. Makarov looked at him. "I understand your anger, Mr. Dragneel but now isn't the time for such things!"
"Move it!" Porlyusica ordered while gently pushing Lucy aside and looking Natsu over. She went on about him always overdoing his magic for years, (Igneel took blame for that) and she told them about a tumor. Igneel could have sworn his heart stopped as she went on about how the tumor will continue to grow until it kills him.
Igneel couldn't speak, he couldn't move, he couldn't do anything! He should have gone after Natsu and stopped him from going after Zeref than this wouldn't be happening right now! Suddenly, a girl with short green hair offered to shrink the tumor, so it would hold no threat to him.
Porlyusica looked at Igneel. "You're the boy's father. It's your decision. Do you trust this girl to save your son?" Igneel looked at the girl then his son. He couldn't lose Natsu, he just couldn't. "Yes, save my son!"
Lucy took off Brandish cuffs and she immediately went to work. After she was done, Porlyusica looked him over again. She sighed. "I think he will be alright, thanks to Brandish but it's hard to say when he will wake up."
Everyone sighed in relief and Igneel looked at Brandish with gratitude. "Thank you, Brandish, if there is anything I can do to repay you let me know." Brandish gave him a look. "Well…could you maybe blow something up for me?"
Igneel's sweat dropped when a mermaid lady slapped her. "When someone thanks you, you're supposed to say your welcome and leave it at that!" Brandish pouted. "Yes, Ma'am."
…
Later,
Igneel was watching his fellow dragons fight as he sat next to the guild. He wanted to join them but didn't feel comfortable leaving Natsu while he's asleep.
"Alright! Let's do this thing!" An excited voice yelled and Igneel looked to see Natsu running out of the guild with his friends.
Igneel quickly went to him. "Natsu!" He called and his son stopped in his tracks. He looked at Igneel and he could tell that his son was still upset with him. "...Natsu…can we talk?"
Natsu looked interested a moment but then he shook his head. "I can't talk now Dad. I have to help my friends." Igneel sighed. "But Natsu, this is war, there's no telling what could happen! I want us to talk about this while we can!"
Natsu huffed and smiled at him. "Please, I'll take Zeref and his creeps down with no problem!" Igneel looked unsure and Natsu looked away. "Look…after the battle is over…then maybe we can talk but I got important things I have to do right now."
Igneel sighed. "Alright, be careful son." Natsu smiled slightly at him and took off after his friends.
…
The war was over, Zeref was finally gone along with Mavis, and everyone was cheering happily. Igneel was limping to the guild with Grandine by his side. "Are you sure you'll be alright, Igneel?"
Igneel huffed. "Please, this is nothing. I will admit Erza's mother was tough, but she couldn't do as much damage as Acnologia did back when we first fought."
Grandine smiled at him. "Well, don't worry. I'll have you healed up in no time, but we should probably get you back home before I do."
"Natsu! Natsu!" Igneel looked to see Happy, Lucy, and Gray desperately calling for Natsu. Worry overcame him and he went to them. Lucy noticed him. "Oh, Igneel! Thank goodness, do you smell Natsu anywhere?! Please, tell me you do!"
"Why? Is everything alright?"
Happy flew to his face, crying his heart out. "When Zeref died, the book of E.N.D. disappeared but Natsu was still fine, so we were on our way to the guild. But…then...he just disappeared!"
Igneel's eyes widened. "No! T-That can't be true! He can't be gone!"
"Hello, can everyone hear me?!" A voice suddenly said. "Calling all fairy tale members, all the dragon slayers have gone missing, repeat all the dragon slayers have gone missing!"
"...Wendy…" Grandine whispered, fearfully. Igneel didn't know whether to be even more worried or relieved. "So, it isn't just Natsu who disappeared, all the dragon slayers have."
"That means there's still a chance Natsu is alive!" Gray said and Happy smiled. "Alright!"
"Yes, but we still don't know who or what took them!" Igneel said.
"I-I just got some news!" The voice spoke again. "A-Acnologia has taken Wendy into some portal and is on his way here!"
Both Igneel and Grandine tensed. Igneel growled. "Acnologia…he's responsible for this!" Grandine started to cry. "...Wendy."
"Don't worry Grandine, we'll get your daughter back." He assured and looked up at the sky with determination. 'Natsu, be safe.'
…
With Acnologia and the dragon slayers,
The dragon slayers used every attack they could think of on Acnologia, but he didn't even have a mark on him. "What the hell?" Gajeel grumbled. "He hasn't even moved!" Sting exclaimed.
"How are we going to beat him? He's so much stronger than us." Rogue said as he sat up. Natsu looked at them sternly. "The fight is not over yet! Don't give up!"
Acnologia chuckled. "You really think you can beat me? You're just wasting your time. Not even your father, the Fire Dragon King, could defeat me. What makes you think that you can?"
Natsu grinned at him. "Because I got my friends by my side!" Wendy stood up and scowled at Acnologia. "We all have friends and family who are counting on us! We're not going to give up!"
Acnologia sighed. "So be it then."
Without so much as a warning Luxus went to attack Acnologia with a lightning punch. It hit him but it didn't really do anything. Cobra used a poison breath attack but that didn't do anything either. "Is this guy unbeatable or what?" Rogue, Sting, and Wendy then attacked but they were easily thrown away.
Gajeel and Natsu used their dragon roar on him at the same time but again nothing happened. "This guy is unbelievable." Gajeel said and Natsu narrowed his eyes on him. "Why are you even doing all of this man?! Most of the dragons are gone, you killed them all! The ones left standing haven't done anything to you!"
"Haven't done anything to me? Those creators stole everything from me! The dragons destroyed my home, killed my family, even innocent children! I must destroy all dragons!" Acnologia yelled.
Natsu stepped forward. "Our parents had nothing to do with that! They were on the humans' side! Real dragons don't destroy homes or families! Real dragons are loyal, brave, and noble!"
Acnologia growled. "How can you tell me those monsters are noble? Your parents may have not been there, but they're still blood thirsty monsters and I'll kill them and you. Dragons are not noble, their monsters!"
Acnologia then used an attack that should have killed Natsu instantly but when the smoke cleared, he saw Natsu was still standing. "Didn't you hear me? I said that real dragons are like that! There are all different kinds of dragons in the world, just like people! Some are bad, some are good, some are strong, some are weak, some are cruel, some are kind!"
Natsu lit his whole body on fire with determination in his eyes. "And there are some who are going to kick your ass! I may be pissed at my old man right now but that doesn't mean I'm going to let you kill him!" Acnologia looked shocked. "There's no way. That attack should have killed him. How?!"
He then noticed Wendy using every drop of her power on to Natsu, but she wasn't just using her's, she was using the other dragon slayer's magic too. "I'm putting all of our magic power into you, Natsu!" She shouted as their power went into Natsu.
All his friends cheered him on as his whole body started to light up in colorful flames. He grinned at Acnologia who still looked confident. "Even with all your powers combined you still can't beat me! I have the power of a god; I am the Dragon King!" Suddenly Acnologia sensed something outside, he put his mind in his dragon body for a moment to see what's happening. "I-I can't move! Why can't I move?!"
Natsu saw this as his one and only chance. "I'm ending this right now!" He charged at him, as his friends cheered him on. "Leave it to me!" Acnologia then came back and gasped when he saw Natsu about to hit him.
Natsu was using all of his and his friend's power in this one hit and Acnologia looked at his fire filled eyes, he immediately had a flashback of when he first fought Igneel. 'I understand now Igneel. This boy truly has the Fire Dragon King's spirit.'
That was his last thought before Natsu punched him and he went flying. The power that Natsu used was too much even for the Dragon King and he began to fade away. "No, I-I need more. I need more dragon blood, more tears. I must destroy everything, I-I must have everything."
Natsu looked at him with sympathy. "No one can have everything." He suddenly said and Acnologia looked at him, seeing a smile on his face. "Don't be greedy. For me, I have my friends and family, so I don't need anything else."
Acnologia's eyes soften. "I understand now." He said before his whole body fades away. "You are truly worthy of being King."
Natsu scoffed but kept his smile. "King? I don't want to be the King of anything."
…
In town,
Acnologia disappeared and everyone cheered except for Igneel and the other dragon parents. "Where are they?!" Metalicana exclaimed. "Patience, they should be back any minute." Grandine said sternly but if she was being honest, she didn't really believe her own words.
Igneel looked up at the sky and glanced down to see Lucy doing the same. "...Natsu…" She cried. Igneel's ears suddenly twitched when he heard something crack. He looked up to see cracks in the sky. Happy gasped. "The sky is breaking!"
Not long after he said that all the dragon slayers began to fall from the sky. Grandine moved quickly. "Wendy!! Children!!" She flew up and they fell on her fluffy back. She landed back down, and everyone surrounded them relieved that they were alright.
Natsu chuckled. "Hey, thanks! You're the best Grandine!" Metalicana huffed in disapproval. "I would have just let them fall. Teach them not to get so easily captured next time." Gajeel growled at him. "You try fighting Acnologia!!"
"Gajeel!" A girl's voice called, and he looked to see Levi. Gajeel blushed slightly and smirked. "...Levi." He slid off Grandine's back and went to hug Levi.
Natsu just jumped off Grandine but he didn't notice that Happy and Lucy were under him before it was too late. "AHH!!" They all screamed before Natsu fell on top of them.
Lucy looked up at him and blushed as Natsu smiled. "We did it!" He cheered and Lucy and Happy felt tears in their eyes. "Welcome back." They both said at once.
…
Later that night,
Everyone went out to celebrate their victory and the victory of Lucy publishing her first novel. It ended with a lot of fighting and drunk members (including Lucy), but it also ended with fun. Natsu walked out of Lucy's apartment after just walking her home and now he was going out to get some pain killers for her because he can tell by the way she was acting… that she was going to need it.
"Natsu." Natsu turned to see Igneel land in front of him. "Can we talk now?"
Natsu had almost forgotten about that, he wanted to talk to his father and get some answers, but he can't right now. "...Sorry, Dad but no…we can't." Igneel looked surprised by this. "But Natsu, you said when the battle was over that we could talk."
Natsu scowled at him. "Yeah, and you also said that you wouldn't keep any secrets anymore." Igneel glanced down and Natsu sighed. "It's not that I don't want to talk about this, I do but…a lot of stuff happened to me in the battle, and I realized something, I realized that I am human. I think I need to reflect on that for a while before I start talking about this and…" He looked up at Lucy's window. "I also have other things that I have to think about too."
Natsu looked back at Igneel who looked disappointed about this. "If it helps, I understand why you didn't tell me and I'm not that mad at you anymore, but I am still a little upset. My friends and I are going to go on a job tomorrow for a few months and I think it will be good for me. Once that's over then we can talk, that's a promise. Just please…let me think about everything for a while."
Igneel sighed in annoyance, but he understood where his son was coming from. He went through so much in just one day. "Very well, if that is what you need and if that is what you want."
Natsu nodded. "It is. Thanks Dad." Natsu then continued on his way and Igneel watched him, worriedly, wondering what was going through his son's head right now. Hopefully, when Natsu comes back they can talk and put this all behind them.
…But little did the father and son know that when Natsu comes back…things won't go how they had hoped.
