"The City of Mistral..." Qrow started to explain to the group.
Nora groaned at the thought of the long journey, "Ugh! It's about time!"
Qrow and Team RNJR, Team EMM, Caboose, Tucker and Donut are walking through a stone brick tunnel illuminated by translucent lanterns.
"Who thought walking was the best way?" Emerald looked back at Ruby.
Melanie and Militia slapped their heads forgetting a crucial detail, "Did we forget that we have our driver license."
"Well I mean we were caught up in the moment and everything so I guess it makes sense." Caboose comforted the twins.
"Well, we did face many obstacles. Broken airships, destroyed settlements..." Ren listed.
Jaune added more to the list, "Oh, and, you know, all those people and monsters that tried to murder us."
"Pfft, we were fine." Ruby looked at Qrow with a smile, "Only one of us almost died."
"Hey." He smiled back at them.
Nora puts her hands on her hips and looks at Ren, who only looked back at Nora, "Hey." Earning one of her giggles in response.
"So, how much farther to Haven Academy?" Jaune asked.
Qrow looked back at the kids to keep them informed, "Almost there. But I figured I'd take you kids on the scenic route."
Approaching a pair of large, wooden double doors, which Qrow opens, flooding the tunnel with sunlight. The group makes it out onto a massive platform that doubles as an elevator, stopping at the railing to gaze out over the city in wide-eyed awe.
"Wow!" Ruby speaks for everyone who never saw it, the others join her to take in the view of buildings and stone stairways perched on mountains, "This... is... awesome!"
Below them, large crowds of people are going about their day - walking around, talking and buying merchandise legally and illegally.
"It's certainly something." Qrow added.
Ruby noticed a certain kiosk selling her favorite type of merchandise, "Oh my gosh, look at all the weapons!"
"Vendors here'll sell you just about anything... whether they should or not." Tucker added seeing as how he grew up in a more dominantly human town nearby.
Jaune kept looking at the place with wonder, "They really made the most out of these mountains."
"Every inch. I'll take you down to the red light area in the lower levels, but the higher up you go, the nicer it gets."
"And we are going up!" Nora stated pointing upward.
[On the Seabull]
Instead of deciding on a straight path to Menagerie, Church decided to take a longer route. Stopping at the Island of Menagerie he flew the whole time, once they landed Simmons handed some letters over to a mail carrier at the small airfield on the Island of Vytal. The plan was to stop there then go straight to Menagerie without stopping after they refuel and fill up some reserve tanks. Then it should be a clear shot straight to the heavily faunus populated continent of Menagerie.
While Church either slept with autopilot on or had the pilot headgear on Simmons was mainly bored and decided to record their trip. Mainly have a little travel blog he would tape and then keep to play for later or send to his friends who were who knows where. He'd send them back to Atlas with Church's Dad to find their friends and send them out.
The whole journey took roughly two days, this was one of the recordings from their adventure, "Okay red light is on, so I'm assuming it's recording."
Simmons cleared his throat as he steadied the camera to face him, "Hey guys. I'm doing alright... uhhh... still adjusting to the arm, the eye and some other body parts of mine. Its all good just difficult to get used to."
At night a thunder made Simmons jump as they were practically flying blind in a rainy cloud. "Church is sleeping up front. But he told me everything should be fine. In his words, 'Turbulence has never brought down an aircraft before.' Which isn't true... but he told me to wake him something goes wrong... which I might do just now."
"So he wasn't happy for waking him, and we didn't crash or anything so we're still fine. He's a little pissed but we'll be arriving in Menagerie by tomorrow noon."
"Looking out the window, at the rising sun makes you think... why are we still here? All right I'll talk to you later. Hopefully when we land I'll find some way to get these to all of you. Co-pilot Simmons out."
[Back In The Mistral Academy]
RNJR, EMM, ML, Donut and Qrow enter the campus grounds of Haven Academy, which is devoid of any other people. They stop in a courtyard, where Ruby smiled and wiped a tear from her eye. Jaune placed a hand on her shoulder, and she sighs, "We made it."
Qrow stops behind them, and while they continue on their way, he takes a moment to glance around and lets out a sigh.
"Hello?" Inside a hallway, RNJR is following Qrow, and Ruby calls out once again, louder this time, "Hello?!"
"Maybe try louder?" Nora jokingly suggested.
Which Caboose took literally, "HELLOOO! IS! ANYONE! HERE!"
"Caboose, keep it down... This smells like a trap, or a rat, or a rat in a trap." Emerald repeating looking at all the possible places they could be ambushed.
Qrow turned back acknowledged Emerald's words, "No, she's right. Come on!" Qrow hurried ahead.
"Wait for us!" Ruby pleaded as everyone picks up the pace to catch up, and soon, all are running to a pair of wooden double doors.
Qrow comes to a stop in front of them, draws his sword, and extends the blade, "Get ready. There could be trouble."
Everyone follow his lead in drawing their weapons. Caboose chainsaw revved it's loud noise as he rushed ahead and kicked the door wide open. Just on the other side, Leonardo Lionheart widens his eyes, throws his hands into the air, and lets out a frightened scream. All except Emerald, Tucker, Qrow and preoccupied Caboose widen their eyes and scream as well, while Ren gives the headmaster a confused stare. Standing on one foot with his eyes wide, Caboose turns off the motor and smiles as he waves to the headmaster. Shortly after, Lionheart makes a noise and briefly faints all of them let their weapons down and stare, dumbfounded, while Qrow sat up.
"Uh, Professor Lionheart?" Tucker questioned, being one of the few students who turned in a transfer paper.
Lionheart gasps and sits up, "Qrow! For crying out loud, you nearly scared me half to death!"
"Me? Why weren't you waiting for us at the entrance?" Qrow growled while he got into a sitting position.
Lionheart pulled a pocket watch from his coat and checked it, "Oh, right. Apologies. I guess time slipped away from me."
"You're shitting me." Tucker groaned
While Lionheart stands up and put their weapons away, Nora asks a question, "Where is everybody?"
"Ah, you must be the students Qrow mentioned." Lionheart acknowledged.
Ruby gave a salute as everyone gave their introduction, "Yes, sir. Ruby Rose."
"Jaune Arc."
Nora posed with her arms held stiffly out to the sides, "Nora Valkyrie."
Ren put his arms behind his back, "Lie Ren."
"Melanie/Militia Malachite." The twins curtsied simultaneously.
Emerald folded her arms across her chest, "Emerald Sustrai."
"Franklin Delano Donut." Donut gave a peace sign with a pose.
"Tucker." The samurai said leaning against Jaune as if the two were a buddy cop movie.
Caboose somehow disappeared and reappeared behind Lionheart, "Hello, I'm Michael J Caboose."
Lionheart chuckled after getting another startling heart attack, "A pleasure to meet you all. Leonardo Lionheart, at your service. I'm afraid most of my staff is currently away until classes resume, but--"
"What? Leo, you can't be serious. Who's guarding the Relic?" Qrow briefly clenches his fists and then leans in toward Lionheart.
Professor Lionheart tried to hush up the dusty Huntsman, "Qrow, the children."
"Already know. I filled them in. What do you mean your staff is away?" Qrow admitted.
Lionheart is stunned for a moment as this information sinks in, "You... filled them in?"
"So, is this not going at all like anyone thought it would?" Nora asked.
Caboose smiled and answered her question, "I think it's going well."
[A Tired Pickup Truck Parked Near an Inn]
Sarge and Merc had made a long non-stop journey all the way from the farmlands to a village with a lovely bar waitress within it. When they got their room situated Sarge and Merc both went to the little pub to get a drink and eat as the woman looked shook as if she had seen some stuff. She approached their table with shaky hands as she laid down the menu's for the two men.
Sarge examined his menu as she left as Mercury kept glancing around at the bar wondering what comes next. Mercury leaned in as their plan wasn't too thought out, "So do you have any idea where Emerald is?"
"No... but we know she's heading to Mistral. That's a start, we'll piece it together from there. I got a few friends, not to mention the headmaster who's a good friend of mine." Sarge replied, not looking away from the menu, until a thought entered his head, "Hey, I gots a questions for you."
"Shoot."
"Why are you helping me?"
Mercury leaned back in his chair as he thought about his answer, "I can't say. I think it's cause I wanna either join her quest or one up her."
"Huh?"
"What?"
"Nothing." Sarge threw up his hands in the air like nothing, "Just curious is all?"
"So... when are you gonna tell Emerald the truth?" Mercury followed his question.
Sarge pretended to think about the answer, "Hmmm, when I'm dead, plus three days. Just to make sure I'm dead."
"Hmmm."
"What?!"
"Nothing." Mercury copied Sarge.
Sarge rose from his chair and pointed at Mercury, "Listen here, what I do with that information is between me and me. I only told ya because I knew you wouldn't get in the truck any other way."
"Take it from me Sarge, it'll come out sooner or later. My old man tried hiding his career from me, then when I discovered it he forced that life on me. So you can either be in control of how and when you tell her or you'll lose control of both and screw up everything." Mercury looked the old man in the eye.
Unfortunately the old man stared at the Menu while ignoring him, "Beans sound nice."
"Yeah, beans sound good to me too." Mercury agreed, defeated and tired as his stomach took control.
[Mistral's Academy]
The students and Qrow are gathered in Lionheart's office, with the headmaster sitting behind his desk. Everyone spread out around the room, some standing straight or leaning against a wall, or in Caboose's case sitting cross legged on the floor.
Lionheart took a deep breath before beginning, "I have to say, Qrow, this all seems very reckless, even for you."
"No, reckless is leaving one of the Relics completely unguarded. It's not checking in with Oz for ages!" Qrow scolded the more responsible adult.
Lionheart defended his position as he looked at Qrow, "There was nothing to check in about before the fall of Beacon, but since that day, Mistral has been in chaos! Vale wasn't the only Kingdom to suffer that night. Everyone was watching. Every house in every Kingdom saw that poor girl ripped to pieces, saw monsters crawling over the city, Atlesian Knights attacking citizens... and then nothing. You could feel the dread in the air. With all that negativity, you can imagine what it was like when the Grimm came for us. Mistral's territory is the widest reaching in the world, you know, and that makes it infinitely harder to protect. We lost so many great Huntsmen, teachers from this very institution. And it's only gotten worse."
"What do you mean?" Caboose asked.
Lionheart leaned on the windowsill, "We may have dealt with the Grimm, but the Mistral council's still at odds with representatives from Atlas. First, it was the Dust embargo, now it's the closing of borders. I'm not sure what happened to James in Vale, but it seems to have only worsened some of his more unfortunate tendencies. And, on top of everything, we still don't know where the Spring Maiden is."
"All the more reason we need the Huntsmen and Huntresses here!" Qrow demanded.
Ruby moved closer in between the two, trying to defuse the situation, "Okay! Okay. Things are bad; they're bad. But we can figure this out. Why is the Spring Maiden so important?"
"I thought you filled them in." Lionheart looked at Qrow.
Qrow reached into his pocket for his flask before continuing, "Mostly filled in. Look, there's a lot to cover, okay? I quit teaching for a reason."
"The four Maidens each have the power to perform feats of magic, and they are the only ones capable of reaching the Relics." The tired Professor Lionheart sat back in his chair explaining.
Tucker rolled his eyes, "You got to be fucking shitting me."
"The Relics are each locked inside a chamber that can only be opened by a specific Maiden. Winter for the gift of Creation, Summer for Destruction, Fall for Choice and Spring for Knowledge. Spring is the problem." Taking another drink Qrow finished the explanation.
Ren had another follow up question, "What happened to her?"
"She was determined, at first, when she inherited her powers, but the weight of responsibility proved to be too much for the child. She... ran. Abandoned her training, everyone. That was over a decade ago. There's no telling where she could be now." Professor Lionheart recalled from his sorrowful memory.
Qrow hesitantly spoke back to Leonardo, "I... know. At least... I have a pretty good idea."
"Are you serious?" The Professor stood up with wide eyes.
"It's not exactly good news."
Lionheart walked around to Qrow from behind his desk, "What are you talking about? This is incredible news! After all these years! Where?!" He asked taking him by the shoulders hugging him.
Qrow nudged him off, "I did some digging around. Looks like, after Spring ran away, she was picked up by bandits, specifically the Branwen tribe."
"Raven." Lionheart answered now knowing the bad news?
Ruby lets out a small gasp of surprise, while Jaune and everyone else was confused, "Yang's mom?"
"That's right." Qrow pulled out his Scroll, walking over to and placing it on Lionheart's desk. The hologram monitor on the desk displays a map of Remnant, as the map pulls up a zoomed-in section he continues speaking, "That's about where they've set up their main camp. It's where they fall back to after raids and scouting missions. Raven's managed to gain a lot of followers since she returned to the tribe, and I'm sure when the Spring Maiden showed up, it only made things easier."
Lionheart walked over and patted Qrow on the back, "Well, Qrow, I've got to hand it to you. With these coordinates, we can mount a retrieval force and head out in a few weeks."
Lionheart walks over to the computer, while Qrow clenches his fists, "A few weeks?"
Lionheart pulls up a hologram keyboard and taps a few keys, while Qrow's Scroll displays the text COPYING FILES, followed by DISCONNECTED, "That's right." Lionheart walked back around behind the desk.
"Leo, maybe you didn't hear me. My sister has the Spring Maiden, and I know where she is." Qrow placed his hands on the desk, knocking several books off, "We need to go, as soon as possible!"
Lionheart calmly turned to Qrow but his expression filled with anger quickly, "And perhaps you didn't hear me. This Kingdom is in shambles. As soon as possible, does not mean tomorrow. It means, as soon as I can convince the council that I need Huntsmen more than they do. Unfortunately, bandit tribes aren't very high on their list of priorities when the threat of war is just on the horizon."
"Then damn the council. We'll do it ourselves. You and I are trained Huntsmen and these kids aren't exactly pushovers."
Nora jumped up while Ruby fistpumps, "Yeah!"
Everyone stood up straight ready to fight a bandit army all by themselves until Ren had be to the voice of reason, "Perhaps there's a more peaceful way to approach this?"
"We need to get Spring as far away from here as possible. And Raven isn't going to give up her most prized possession without a fight." Qrow added.
Lionheart sighed as he had to turn them down, "Unfortunately, you and your sister are evenly matched. And I'm not the fighter I used to be. No offense, but these students and I can't take on an entire bandit tribe and a Maiden that's no doubt had years to hone her skills. We need to be positive we can apprehend Spring, because if we fail Raven and her tribe will scatter. And we'll be lost. We get one shot at this. And it needs to be perfect."
"You know Oz wouldn't be happy with any of this if he were here." Qrow stood staring for several seconds before turning away.
Lionheart agreed with Qrow, "Perhaps you're right. But he's not. I'm doing the very best I can."
"There has to be something we can do." Donut chimed in.
Jaune thought for a moment about the others involved, "What about Cinder? She came with those other mercenaries from Haven. Do you have anything on them?"
"We pulled their files after the Fall of Beacon. Nothing but lies and forgeries." Leonardo admitted.
Jaune loosened his hand as he dropped his head to the floor in sadness. There's another moment of silence before Qrow speaks, "Well, I can't say this has been a warm reunion, Leo."
"I'm sorry. I know you've all traveled a long way. But I will do everything I can to help." Leonardo tried to comfort the group.
Qrow and the others didn't feel the sincerity as their journey changed their mind, "Sure. We'll stay in the city for the time being. Local comms are still up. Keep in touch. Come on, kids."
They all begin to file out of the room. At the rear, Ruby turns around to face Lionheart again, "It was nice meeting you, Professor."
Lionheart took a moment to respond, "Likewise."
After Ruby departs, Lionheart hangs his head, looking stressed. A holographic W projects up from his desk, followed by the sound of Arthur Watts' voice, "Oh, Leo. We have got to work on your improvisational skills."
Qrow and everyone walks back down the academy hallway, Emerald is the first to stop and speak, "So, what's the plan now?"
Qrow sighed and turned around, "You four head back to the house. I need a drink."
He walks off, leaving the several teenagers looking at each other with concern.
[Later At The Bar]
Jaune, Ren, Nora, Tucker, Donut and the twins are sitting on a pair of red couches in a living room when there's a knock on the door. They tense and look at each other before Jaune cautiously goes to open it. A small boy is on the other side, looking hesitant and uncomfortable. Jaune looks back over his shoulder at the other two, and Nora shrugs.
Tucker asked the kid a question, "Can I... help you?"
"Um... yeah. Is there a Ruby Rose here?" He asks hesitantly.
Ren and Nora immediately stand up, tense and defensive as she darkly asks, "Why?"
Caboose entered the room as he placed a hand on Nora's and Jaune's shoulder to keep them calm, with Emerald who got in front of Melanie and Militia to stand down as they slowly lowered themselves to her gaze.
The young boy felt more comfortable seeing the biggest ones staying cool, "Well..." He looks to his left and Qrow appears, moving drunkenly and grabbing Oscar by the shoulders.
"I found him!" Qrow cheers and snorts into his hand and continued laughing as he stumbled into the house.
Oscar then gestured to the man, "I think her uncle could use some help."
"Whoa. Ugh." Qrow tried settling onto his back and folding his arm over his eyes, "I found him. Qrow almost makes it to the couch Jaune just vacated before he stumbled and saved his balance by falling backward onto the cushions."
"What is going on out there?!" Ruby shouted from the top of the stairs stomping into the living room, "Can't a girl read her comics in peace?" Qrow burps and chuckles, catching Ruby's attention. She sighs and puts a hand to her forehead exasperated, "Qrow, did you get drunk again?"
"Maybe." The drunk man answers like a child.
Oscar finally stepped in as he looks at Ruby, "You have silver eyes."
Ruby looks at him, a touch surprised, so she turns to everyone else who stayed to the side, who shrugs again, before looking back at the boy. Ruby examined the boy cautiously, "Who... are you?"
Qrow chuckles from the couch as the kid answers her, "Uh... Well. My name is Oscar Pine."
"Wait for it..." Qrow paused.
Oscar continued his explanation, "But you probably know me as... Professor Ozpin."
Members RNJR all gasp as everyone else went wide eye, silent, and look confused, Jaune and Tucker take a couple steps back. Qrow continues chuckling punching his fists into the air, "I did it!"
He falls off the couch onto the floor, startling Caboose, "Oh my goodness... cliffhanger!"
