Chapter:12 Maybe yes…. maybe No

Harvey was grumpy this morning…well he has been one since the time he had a fallout with Donna but today he was in the worst mood ever. He wasn't sleeping well for days…it's like his mind couldn't shut off. He kept imagining Donna in the arms of some random guy about who he knew nothing except that his name starts with L…. "Loser" he kept iterating only to get questioned that ironically, he was the one who lost Donna.

He kept chugging on his scotch, sulking. He hadn't been eating well too and then when his stomach started to feel queasy, he gave up on alcohol and decided to go back to bed only to end up tossing and turning the entire night. So, to say he woke up with one of the worst hangovers since his college days and to add to his misery Ray couldn't pick him up today and he was already late to work after having spent an intense session in the boxing ring to get over the headache.

He was walking by the hallway of the office, coffee in hand and before he could take his first sip Jessica cornered him. Apparently, he missed out on filing their motion to dismiss or to put it correctly he forgot to tell Donna yesterday to file the motion to dismiss leading to which the opposition has now counter sued the client. Louis was devastated and went to Jessica to update her about the case.

"Harvey…. I see you are in a fine mood today. How is that coffee?"

He scoffed knowing very well that Jessica didn't mean a word "Jessica what can I do for you".

"Oh, let's see Harvey…can we first start with you getting your shit together."

"Excuse me"

"Oh, you heard me…. I gave you a week to get back, but since that time you have screwed up 2 client meetings and now you forgot to file the motion".

"I have my shit together Jessica and as far as the motion goes, I blame my assistant…. you should fire him".

"Oh really…. you mean the temp that like every other assistant you have had in the past week put in a transfer request".

He just scowled at her.

"Let me make this clear to you…. I am going to go back and ask Donna to fill in until we find you someone for a longer time".

"No…. you will not. I will fix this up".

"Oh, it was not something up for a discussion" she said sternly and left.

He enters his office with a foul mood and discards the coffee he was carrying, firing up his laptop he gets on with his work to fix the mess he got everyone in.

It was almost around lunch time when Harvey found a precedent that could help him file his motion to dismiss, however he still needed to fix the counter sue situation he got his client into. He goes by Jessica's office to let her know that he partially fixed the situation, where he got another earful because Hardman bit her head off for supporting Harvey even when he was being a constant pain in the ass.

He promised Jessica that he will get through with this and will come out on top. He leaves her office and takes a detour to stop by Louis's to bring him up to speed. It will also give him an opportunity to reach out to Donna and let her know that she doesn't have to come back to his desk. When he reached her desk, he was surprised to see that it was empty. Her bag wasn't around so it wasn't like she was taking a lunch break or anything, but he still thought of checking the executive kitchen to see if she was there.

He checked the kitchen only to find few of the partners taking there break but the redhead was nowhere to see. Donna wasn't one to take a day off so he immediately pulls out his cellphone to check on her when it suddenly hit him, that she might have called in to spend time with her so called date. With a sour mood he pushes back his cellphone in his suit pocket and goes back to his desk.

It was only later in the evening, when he received a call,

"Harvey Specter".

"Mr. Specter, I am calling from Bellevue Hospital. You're listed as one of the emergency contact for a Ms. Donna Paulsen".

"Yes…where is she? What happened?" he stood up too fast that the chair hit the cabinet behind with a loud thud.

"Ms. Paulsen is currently being treated; however, the doctor has requested your presence. How fast can you be here?"

"I am on my way". He was almost halfway through the door by the time the words came out of his mouth.

He raced through the door of the hospital, pantingly he asked "Donna Paulsen….I got a call she was brought in here, where is she?"

"You're?" the receptionist replied.

"Harvey Specter".

"Oh okay, the emergency contact…. she is in room no 1312".

He raced up the floor and barged inside the room, where Donna was plastered up and a doctor was suturing a wound on her forehead.

"Donna…. what the hell happened" he spoke so loudly that it startled her and the doctor up.

"Harvey…. what are you doing here"?

"Ms. Paulsen…. you should rest now" the Doctor said and turned around to introduce himself to Harvey.

"Hi, I am Dr. Wong and you're?"

"Harvey Specter"

"Mr. Specter, how do you know Ms. Paulsen here"?

Harvey looked at Donna and found her staring right at him.

"Ummm…. I am her…uhh"

"Boss" "Friend" they both said together. Hearing Donna refer to him as his boss was like a slap in the face.

"Harvey…is my ex-boss…. umm….a friend…uhhh….emergency contact". The more she tried explaining, the worse it started to get.

Dr. Wong smirked, he could see how flustered they both were and sensed some history there. "Ms. Paulsen…. have some rest. Mr. Specter a word please" he signaled at Harvey to step outside.

"How is she doing Dr. Wong".

"Ms. Paulsen has a swollen ankle, broken wrist, dislocated shoulder, and a small concussion. The Ankle would heal in around 10 days…. wrist would take about 2 weeks and the shoulder would be good in about a month's time. She would have to wear a brace to keep the shoulder intact. Luckily it will be good without a surgery, however she may need some Physiotherapy. As far as the concussion goes…we will monitor her overnight and then she is free to go".

"Oh okay…so it's all manageable".

"Yeah…. but here's the thing. She needs to be taken care of, and what I understand is she stays alone, is there someone who can be with her? Because if not I could share some references for care takers. I know its not ideal but for proper healing, she needs complete rest".

"No worries…. I can be with her".

"Alright then…. I will leave you to it then".

Once Dr. Wong left, he gathers himself…. agreeing to take her in was 1 thing to convince Donna to go along was something completely different.

He goes inside again.

"Hey"

"Hey yourself" she says. They look at each other…. like really look at each other. It was the first time after their fall out that they have been together in such a close proximity. The air around them shifts and she looks away.

Harvey clears his throat and says, "What happened".

"I was feeling under the weather…. kept resting the entire day, when I woke up I didn't feel any better so thought to go to the nearby pharmacy. I hadn't eaten all day, the weakness caught up and next thing I know I fainted and tumbled down the staircase. Ms. Robinson, heard the fall and called 911."

"And you didn't feel like calling me up".

"Really" she scoffs…." you're asking me that after everything that has happened over the past month."

"Okay…so you didn't feel like calling your asshole boss".

"Oh, I don't work for him anymore…. I work for Louis Litt now". She holds back her smile.

"Ha ha ha…. very funny...!" he fakes annoyance.

"Seriously Donna…you should have called someone".

"I didn't think it was so serious….and to be fair my feeling unwell didn't get me to the hospital, my fall did".

He kept looking at her…. leave it to Donna to turn around any situation and blame something else rather than admit her wrongdoing. She was as stubborn as he was.

"Stop staring at me Harvey".

"Uh…huh….I wasn't staring" he mumbles quietly.

"What did Dr. Wong say".

"You can be discharged tomorrow…. but you need to be supervised and taken care of. Its important for you to rest, so you will come to my place, or I can move to yours."

"What…. you're kidding right". She flipped out too fast….and immediately hissed in pain.

"Ouch"

"Easy there…. are you okay?" he steps closer to her.

"Yeah, I am fine" she says a bit harshly.

"No Donna…I am serious, why would I kid about this".

"I can't move in with you Harvey…with our history and everything that's happened…. this won't help rather it would be extremely awkward".

"It will be only awkward if we make it awkward".

"I could ask Rachel…"

"Rachel seriously? Why don't you ask Louis instead".

"Maybe I should" she says rudely.

"Seriously Donna let me take care of you…. consider it a chance for us to be back together."

She looks at him wide eyed.

"As friends" he immediately raises his hands in surrender.

"Look I called up your mom, to see if she could be here, but your parents are on vacation in Europe for 3 weeks. Stay with me until then."

When he saw her contemplating her decision…he continued.

"I don't know about you…. but I promise to be on my best behavior." He smirks at her.

"Listen…I don't mind coming to your place…but my place is bigger and has 2 rooms and better facilities. But we will do whatever makes you comfortable".

"Let me think about it".

He nods at her….at least he convinced her from an immediate No to a maybe yes.

"Good…. now go back to rest. I will stop by tomorrow morning to help you with the discharge process and take you home".

She nods and he turns around to leave.

"Harvey"

"Yeah"

"Thank you…. for coming."

"Always"

They both timidly smile at each other.

"Goodnight Donna"

"Goodnight Harvey".

When the door to the room closes…she mumbles…"I hope I don't regret doing any of this".

Meanwhile Harvey thought the same thing.."Jesus...after everything thats happened I hope I don't regret doing this".
