My Perfect New Year-Ch 3
When Derek opened his eyes on December the 31st he couldn't help but smile, today was the day, today was the day he was going to ask his baby girl to marry him and spend the rest of her life with him. As he glanced down at the beautiful blonde sleeping in his arms he realized that this is where she was meant to be, she was meant to be in his arms and now that he had her here he was going to do whatever it took to keep her with him and keep her happy.
Penelope started moving around in his arms, he kissed the top of her had and said, "good morning beautiful", she looked up at him and grinned and said, "good morning yourself angelfish" as his lips descended down on hers. One kiss led to two and two too four and just as Derek's hand slid under Penelope's sleep shirt somebody knocked on their bedroom door, Derek pulled away from her and whispered, "are you kidding me right now?", she burst out laughing.
Derek said, "who is it?", Dave said, "it's me son, sorry to interrupt you but your mom wanted me to tell the two of you that breakfast is ready", Derek said, "thanks Dave, I guess we'll be right now", Dave snickered and said, "again I'm sorry son". Derek said, "it's alright man, don't worry about it", Derek smiled as he looked down at Penelope again, she looked so amazingly beautiful today, she was practically glowing she was so happy.
Penelope touched his cheek and said, "rain check, okay handsome?", he said, "okayyyyyy, we better get dressed and get downstairs before momma sends Henry and Jack up here to get us", Penelope couldn't help but laugh because she knew that's exactly what Fran would do if they didn't get downstairs in a few minutes so that they could have breakfast together on the last day of the year.
A few minutes later Derek and Penelope joined the rest of the family downstairs at the dining room table, Sarah and Desi were looking at him and grinning, Derek said, "zip it you too", Desi said, "we didn't say anything". Sarah laughed and said, "well at least not yet anyway" causing everybody at the table to start laughing", Fran looked at her son and then at her daughters before saying, "girls, don't pick on your brother".
Derek said, "you heard momma, don't pick on me", he then stuck out his tongue", Sarah and Desi just looked at him and shook their heads and Desi said, "ohhhh way to be mature big brother" before sticking her tongue out at him. That went on for a couple of minutes until Fran said, "alright, let's eat", people then started filling up their plates with the delicious that Sarah, Fran and Desi had prepared for them.
Penelope was actually able to eat and enjoy breakfast, her morning sickness wasn't too bad this morning, Fran had made sure to fix her tea and a side of toast with honey, she smiled and said, "thank you". Fran said, "you're welcome honey" as everybody then continued enjoying their food while it was still hot, of course the first two finished were Jack and Henry, they got up from the table and ran over to play with their toys until the adults got finished eating.
JJ and Emily cleared off the table, they said, "that was the least they could do considering how hard Fran and the girls had worked preparing the delicious food for them, Fran smiled and said, "thank you". When everybody was together in the living room Reid said, "sooooo what's our plans for today?", Dave said, "how about everybody just do what they want to do today and then tonight how about we have a bonfire up at the lake and countdown to the New Year?", everybody liked that idea.
Penelope said, "sounds good but I don't know if I'll go go the lake, it's gonna be cold tonight and being pregnant I seem to stay tired", Derek intertwined fingers with her and said, "that's okay sweetness you and I can stay here together in front of the fireplace, maybe we can roast marshmallows?", she grinned and said, "sounds like fun, thanks angelfish", he kissed her lips gently and said, "no problem sweetness, no problem".
Fran sat across the room watching her son, it seemed that Penelope being pregnant and tired was working out for the best, well at least for Derek anyway, that way he could be alone with his baby girl tonight and propose to her the way she'd always dreamed of. Derek had told his mom about her Thanksgiving wishes and how he wanted to make them all come true for her, Fran smiled and said, "I especially want the one to come true about the grandbabies".
Derek said, "maaaaaaaa" and then sure enough the found out that she was going to be bringing the next generation of Morgans into the world, Fran sighed happily and tried to imagine what her grandchild would look like. She could see a little boy that reminded her of her son and a little girl that reminded her of Penelope, she knew that either way she would have a beautiful grandchild that she could and would spoil rotten.
As the day went on JJ and Emily kept Penelope company while Derek was sneaking around trying to get things ready for tonight, tonight had to be perfect, she wanted to be proposed to romantically and he was going to do just that. He peeped at her from the kitchen and couldn't help but smile, he then said to himself, "tonight I'm going to ask you to marry me and spend the rest of your life with me and when I put this ring on your finger, you'll be mine forever".
He stood there smiling wondering just what else fate had in store for him and his baby girl, he knew whatever it was the would welcome it and welcome it together happily, he then turned around and started working again on making tonight the most romantic night for his baby girl and hoping that she said yes and made him the happiest man in the world.
