When she crawled into their bed the next morning, she was beyond tired. And she was kicked out of the observation post by Yamato. Stating that she is just as bad as Kakashi. Guarding the village with little to no sleep.
She begrudgingly left before Yamato cage her in his wood prison and dragged her home.
Kakashi turned to his side facing her. He is still fast asleep, but it was like he instantly knew she was there because he immediately pulled her closer to him.
Kakashi's eyes remained closed, but a small smile played on his lips as he held Sakura in his arms. The worries and challenges of their situation seemed to fade away in the embrace they shared. Sakura pressed a gentle kiss to his cheek, silently expressing her gratitude for his presence.
This is the reason why she doesn't want anyone on their house during Kakashi's off. He usually sleeps almost naked, he is usually just clad in his boxers, and he won't appreciate anyone gawking at his body or his face.
For a while, they simply stayed in each other's arms, finding solace in the shared warmth. Sakura traced lazy circles on Kakashi's chest, her mind still processing the events that unfolded with Sasuke.
"I'm sorry for last night," Kakashi murmured, his voice gruff from sleep. "I should have rested like you wanted me to. I didn't mean to make you mad."
Sakura sighed, leaning her head against Kakashi's shoulder. "It's okay. I just... I don't want to see you worn out because of everything. And I don't want a half-dead boyfriend on my bed. One, I can't have my quality time with him. Second, it makes me anxious. And lastly, it makes me want to attack the elders."
Kakashi chuckled softly, his fingers gently running through Sakura's hair. "I appreciate your concern, Sakura. But you don't have to resort to drugging me. We'll figure this out together, okay? And as for the elders, let me handle them. You focus on taking care of yourself and staying safe."
Sakura nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "I know, Kakashi. I just... I hate feeling helpless. I hate that we have to deal with all of this. But as long as we're together, I know we can face anything."
Kakashi's grip on her tightened, and he pressed a soft kiss to the top of her head. "We'll find a way, Sakura. We always do. And I won't let anyone harm you. You mean everything to me."
Sakura nodded, her fingers idly playing with the fabric of their sheets. "I just… I just to do more, you know? I want to protect you, too."
Kakashi gently lifted Sakura's chin, making her meet his gaze. "What you're doing everything you can, Sakura, and it's more than enough for me. You've been my strength through all of this. We'll face whatever comes our way together."
She buried her face on his chest again and hummed, Kakashi chuckled again. "Too tired?" he asked, but he doesn't expect an answer and just kissed her forehead. "Sleep now, Sakura."
The room was filled with a comfortable silence as Sakura closed her eyes, allowing the weariness of the night to catch up with her. Kakashi's steady heartbeat beneath her ear provided a soothing rhythm, and she felt the tension slowly melting away.
