A Better Life
My life was always strange, but those moments that were especially strange were the only times I felt right. The rest of the time was uncomfortable, an odd feeling of something not right. But then again, it could always be the many beatings I get over every tiny, little mistake, including just being with them. Over the years, I would piece things together, so that's how I found out I was a wizard. But they always called it being a Freak. I had learned to accept that growing up in their home. But then they just snapped.
1986, July 31
"Petunia," bellowed Vernon, "I don't want him anywhere near here!"
"Ok, I'll drop him off at the orphanage, where he should have gone from the beginning"!
Just then, the cupboard door flies open and Vernon pulls me out. "Go with your aunt, freak" Vernon spat. Harry does as he is told and goes with Petunia. Soon they are driving up to the orphanage and he can't help but feel a little freedom for once, and soon Harry is left by his aunt.
As the first week goes by, Harry doesn't have any problems. Life is not that bad compared to the way the Dursleys treated him. There is still minimal food and water, but more than the Dursleys ever gave him.
A lot less work and he can finally be himself and be smart. At the Dursleys, he wasn't allowed to be smarter or get better grades than their Dudders. He even made two friends: Hermione Granger, who also lost her parents when she was a baby; And Annabeth Chase, who was there because her parents felt like she was a danger to the family, for some weird reason.
They started to read these strange books that seemed to detail a place in London where 'wizards and witches can shop out of sight of the muggles'. They were frustrated about the fact that it didn't say where it was.
A couple of days after that find, Hermione found one on rituals and showed it to me and Annabeth. We started talking about the rituals and decided we were going to research some more on the topic. But, when we asked Ms. Maxwell, the aid at the orphanage we were at, about the books she just stared at us blankly, then, as if forgetting about them completely, turned and just went back to work. Looking at each other, they decided not to ask anyone else as it seemed that there was magic at work hiding its existence from the world. when they went back to Annabeth's room, her room is in between Harry's and Hermione's rooms, they found a girl, around 10 years old by the looks of it, reading the books of magic they had! When she heard them enter, she froze, slowly turning towards them, looking like she was trying to hide an excitement. Quickly shutting the door, Hermione walked over to the girl and sat her on the bed while she sat on the chair at the desk.
"so, you discovered our secret," stated Hermione. Interrupting her, the girl excitedly exclaimed "I knew I wasn't imagining everything, you're just like me!"
After some silence, Harry picks up the book I was reading and looks at the pages. "These are power rituals. They increase the magical power of the person performing the ritual by sacrifice." Harry summarized before looking at me and saying, "This is dark stuff here, you know. Why were you reading about it?" he asked me. My smile became an evil grin as I answered, "To become the most powerful witch ever." With that I left the room and entered mine, flopped on my bed and listened to the voices. Putting on my headphones and hitting play, I glance at the lock box on my desk-
we should kill them-
no, ally them with-
Kill them
ally
Kil-
Ally
Kill-
All-
KILL-
ALLY-
Isabella proceeds to whack her head against the wall.
"Please shut up!" she whispered, "Not now. Not yet, at least."
The next morning, I woke up and thought about those books I read, and the three people who know about that stuff. They might be able to help me-
or they would fear you because of what you did and what you are.
just Kill them, it's so much easier.
I like fear. It feels satisfying, just holding this power over them, the exhilaration.
but-
nope, we both lost.
but I won.
"what the?"
hello. you could never hear me over the others, but I've been here since the start.
