Welcome to another Fanfic that no one asked for! Honestly, this is just something to satisfy my own cravings and boredom. I remember loving the show H2O Just Add Water when I was a kid and I have held Percy Jackson as the greatest work of fiction for most of my life. Because of this, it has always frustrated me that there really aren't any decent crossover fics save for a few.
This fanfiction will take place after the Second Gigantomachy. There will be changes to canon, the main ones being Annabeth dies (sorry) and the Trials of Apollo will not be taking place. This mostly keeps the story-centric on Percy and the Mako Mermaids.
Also, this story won't be jampacked with action and fight scenes. I won't bring any enemies from the mythological world and most conflicts will be from the actual show. This story will span from the start of the Mermaid TV show to hopefully the end if my motivation lasts that long.
I may have a few cameos of Gods or Percy's old friends but it won't be commonplace. As for Percy, he will be one of the main characters alongside the Mermaid trio but his position will mostly be that of the OP bystander who steps in either to help or just have fun.
As for formatting, one episode from the TV show will be reflected as one chapter. Some of them may be split into two or even three parts depending on how much I want to deviate from the canon storyline.
Anyway, please do enjoy it and let me know if you have any suggestions.
Prologue:
3rd POV
Location: Montauk Beach Cabin
He sat there on the shore, looking out at the sea as he reminisced. The wars were over. They had defeated not one but two divine threats that could have destroyed existence as they knew it. They faced monsters and deities, he even faced a Primordial being in combat but they still managed to attain victory. He brought peace back to the mythological world and had grown infinitely more powerful along the way.
Yet for some reason, it all felt empty to him.
Now, don't take it the wrong way. He certainly felt proud about what he was able to accomplish and he was certainly grateful for all the help and support he was given along the way but in the end, it just didn't mean as much without her.
The final battle of the Gigantomachy had taken the largest toll. The details can wait but to put it simply, he lost someone. He had lost people before but their deaths meant nothing compared to this one.
Annabeth had been there for him through everything and now that she was gone, he didn't know what to do. Their plans to finish high school together, attend college in New Rome, and live happily ever after were all diminished to nothing. At best they would be postponed a century before he died himself because gods knew if he died any sooner she would kill him again in the Underworld.
In fact, he had already spoken to her, against Hades' wishes. They accepted what happened and she warned him that she better not see him again any time soon. After all, he did still have a mortal family and soon-to-be-born sister to take care of.
And that left him here, tired of the gods and on vacation with his mom and stepdad. Speaking of whom…
"Percy!" He heard her call over the sea breeze. "We've come to a decision."
He turned to face her. She stopped right beside him and looked at him with a kind, understanding smile, one that he couldn't help but return.
"Paul and I have decided we are going to move to Australia." She said. Percy blinked at her, slightly stunned at the news.
She put her hands up in a placating position. "Now I know this seems sudden but we have actually been thinking about it for quite a while now. I just thought, since the wars are over and you have a sister coming soon, it might be nice to get away from everything you know. Start with a blank slate."
"I just wanted to offer the invitation to join us. Paul has already gotten a job offer and we can leave anytime this month and we've been looking at houses and-"
"Forget it, Mom," Percy said suddenly. Sally's expression turned downcast. "Percy, honey, I know this is sudden but please reconsider…"
"Nonono, I meant forget about the house, Mom." At this, Sally blinked comically. "What?"
Percy gave her his signature lopsided grin. "Forget about looking for a house, I'll have Hermes take care of all that. All we need to do is get there."
He watched as his mother's eyes lit up at his words. "You mean…?"
He nodded happily. "Yup! Of course I'm going with you guys! What, did you expect me to just leave my new sister to the horrors of Australia all by herself?"
Sally beamed in excitement. "That's wonderful Percy! Thank you so much!" She exclaimed as she clutched him in a tight hug. "Now all we need to do is figure out when to leave."
Percy waved off that concern as well. "How about now?" She looked at him with a puzzled expression. "I'll just have Hermes deliver all our stuff right to the house. I'll get you and Paul on a plane first thing tomorrow morning and meet you guys there."
All Sally could do was stammer at the suddenness of this. "Wait, what do you mean meet us there?"
"Mom," Percy said with a deadpan expression. "The old bastard and I might be on better terms now but that doesn't mean I enjoy being stuck in a metal tube 30,000 feet high in his domain."
Now it was his mom's turn to give him a deadpan. "So what do you plan to do? Swim all the way from Montauk to Australia?"
Percy stood up and started walking out into the water with a grin. "Well, I mean, I could mist travel but that'd be exhausting and way too boring." He said as he got deeper and deeper into the water.
"Percy, it could be dangerous!" His mother yelled after him but you could tell by her voice, that she had already given up trying to convince him.
He turned back to her with a wide mischievous grin. "C'mon Mom! I'm the "Prince" of the sea! It's basically my backyard!"
"Wait!" His mother's voice stopped him just as he was about to dive into the water. "There's one more thing I forgot to mention, we're also moving to reconnect with my sister and her family. You remember Cleo right?"
Suddenly memories of a past trip to Australia began to pop up in his head. Cleo, his slightly younger cousin. She was always so afraid of water and he would tease her endlessly about it. They hadn't seen each other in over a decade!
Percy chuckled a bit at the memories. "It'll be good to see them again! I wonder if she's still afraid of water…"
And with that, he dove straight into the waves and took off at a speed only comprehensible by deities, leaving his mother standing on the beach shaking her head with a slight smile on her face.
"That boy."
Ugh, finally. I've been swimming for an entire hour.
After swimming at a semi-fast pace for a while, Percy could finally sense the mainland of Australia only a few miles further. He prepared for just one final burst of speed to get there but just as he was about to launch, he felt something. It was a soft, shimmering energy he could feel emanating from the small island not too far from him.
He had initially planned on ignoring the island for now and coming back if he ever got bored but this energy persuaded him otherwise. If this was where his family would be living from now on, he needed to make sure nothing dangerous existed.
Changing course, Percy set off toward the island.
"I have wonderful news!" Cleo's mom sang happily at the dinner table.
Cleo looked up from her plate along with her sister and dad.
"Well," Cleo's dad said while continuing to scoop food into his mouth. "Out with it then."
"My sister is moving to Australia!"
Forks clattered as they all looked at her in shock but she continued.
"Isn't it wonderful? I haven't seen her in so long! And Kim, you'll finally get to meet your older cousin! You remember Percy, right Cleo? You two met when you were quite young, he's about a year older than you if I remember correctly."
Cleo did remember and inwardly groaned. Her cousin was nice enough but he loved the water to such a crazy extent, making him practically her polar opposite. She could remember him always insisting they go for a swim, something she would have rather died than do but he would never take no for an answer.
Cleo looked over at her sister who also seemed confused by the suddenness of this announcement.
"But why?" Her father asked. "Not that I don't want them here but this seems strangely out of the blue, don't you think?"
But all her mom did was wave it off. "Oh, I've heard they've been dealing with some drama on Percy's late father's side and they simply needed a fresh start. I'm just happy we'll finally be reunited after so long!"
Well, that was a surprise. If Cleo was remembering correctly, Percy's dad had been lost at sea practically right after he was born.
Either way, this whole situation was too sudden. At least she didn't have anything important going on right now. School was a breeze so far, she was waiting on an answer about her application to the aquatic center, and really the greatest hindrance in her life right now was Zane being an ass.
Cleo just hoped Percy had outgrown his water-crazed tendencies. After all, it actually did sound nice to reunite with her cousin, especially when life right now was kinda boring.
Well, this looks promising.
After swimming around the island several times, Pery found a cave that he could sense leading to the center of the island.
He entered the cave, swimming through a tunnel for a short while before resurfacing in quite an intriguing area. He was now in a pool of water, which by the looks of it was directly in the center of a dormant volcano. The space was beautiful, the water reflected the soft light onto the walls of the cave, creating a shimmering pattern. The pool itself was also pretty comfortable since the dormant volcano still retained enough warmth to turn the pool almost into a spring of sorts.
But what caught Percy's attention the most was the energy he could feel flowing through the cave and water. It consisted of two powers, the sea and moon, but instead of clashing it felt as if the energies were intertwined.
Percy's eyes narrowed at what he felt. This energy was of divine origin. His family was supposed to get a fresh start here in Australia yet somehow, something like this existed even here.
He left the cave, shooting back towards the mainland. He would explore this mysterious island more later on, maybe even contact his father for answers. But for now, his top priority was helping his family get settled. They didn't need to know about this and hopefully, it wouldn't become a problem later on.
That's it for this chapter! I hope you enjoyed it and please remember, if you have any suggestions or opinions all you need to do is leave a review or send me a private message!
For this fanfic, you honestly don't need a lot of knowledge on H2O since I'll basically be rewriting the entire series with Percy involved.
See you next chapter!
