Pfft...Tradition.

'Draco, you need to pick one.' Lucius demanded.
'Father, I...'
'Sorry for interrupting but I'm needed at St Mungos. Draco here is your fathers' latest reports.' As Hermione handed him papers. Draco read as his father continued his monolog.
'But Draco all of these women are suitable wives,'
'Pfft' could be heard.
'All of them are from good pureblood families.'
'Pfft.
'Miss Granger, do you have an opinion on this matter?' Lucius drawled.
'Yea I do but you won't listen so why waste my breath?'
'I would like to hear it.' Draco's eyebrow shot up.
'Fine. What is wrong with a half-blood or a muggle wife?' as she scowled at the men. 'Your next wife needs to put Scorpius above all else. Not your money or your name, your son comes first, or he will turn out just like you… hating his father. Your 'effing pureblood traditions. You keep telling me you want to start anew then start with your son. Stop leaving his care to your mother. Take responsibility for him. Right now, he is afraid of you.' Hermione huffed.
'Is that so? What would you?' Draco asked with a snarl.
'If I was his mother, you would have breakfast with him every morning, then walk him to class. Be home at five every day so you can check his homework, show him how to cut my vegetables to Snapes high standards. Then you will take him outside and teach him to fly or play football. We would eat dinner together. We would all clean up after dinner and then tv time before you help with bath and bedtime. You will tuck him in and read a book every night. And don't tell me you have to work...you have enough money to last a lifetime, ten lifetimes to be truthful. You can afford to spend time with your family.'
'Pfft' this time from Lucius.
'And don't you start on me too. You would take Scorp at least once a week… to go for a walk down to the pond to collect tadpoles or to the barn and teach him to take care of his own pony. Grooming, feeding and cleaning the stall before going out for a nice hack around the property. Or even take him shopping at Florish and Blotts for a new book and then stop for a secret scoop of ice cream.' Hermione stopped to catch her breath. 'Narcissa would stop lording over his classes the poor boy needs a grandmother not a harpy, "Sit straight, stop fidgeting,"' in her best Narcissa voice. 'Take him out to the gardens and show him the flowers and herbs and how to care for them. The both of you sneak him out late at night to see the stars, show him his name sake. Be the fun grandparents give him good memories not the snarking pureblood arseholes.' She rounded back to Draco.
'We would have the Potter kids over for sleepovers take them to Blackpool beach for donkey rides on the beach, go to quidditch or football games. Give Scorpius a normal kid life not a life of pureblood hell. But knowing you, you will pick some pureblood bint who will be happy to spend all of your money on redecorating this house every year just because she can. Poor Scorpius will grow up with his nanny and tutors, He will go to Hogwarts act just like you, a self-centered arsehole.' Now looking at her watch. 'Crap I need to go. All I can say is pick for your son not you.' She turned to leave muttering under her breath the whole way out. 'Pfft…stupid pureblood traditions.' Not noticing Narcissa standing just outside the library door.

'Good morning Narcissa, how is Lucius doing today?' Hermione asked as she came into the kitchen.
'Fine.' In a curt tone. 'So, you think I'm a harpy? Lording over Scorpius' schooling?'
'Um, did they tell you what I said?' Hermione blushed at being called out.
'No, I heard it for myself.'
'I wish I could say I'm sorry but I'm not.' Hermione said matter of factly. 'I think Scorpius needs a mother not a wife for Draco. If you need me to find you a new healer for Lucius I will recommend Healer Karr he is a pureblood he would be best suited.' Hermione finished sorting Lucius' morning pills.
'Do you think you could do better than me?' Narcissa asked.
'Well … yes. At least he could have a childhood, until a new wife is found for Draco.'
'Fine he is your responsibility from now on. Oh, Draco, there you are.'
'Yes mother?' as Draco came into the room.
'Miss Granger has agreed to assume Scorpius' care. So, I will release a statement for tomorrows paper Would that work for you?'
'Yes mother. That will be fine with me.' Draco said as a cup of tea appeared in front of him.
'Oh Lucius, Hermione has agreed to assume care of Scorpius. I will be posting the intent to court tomorrow and then I will start the wedding planning so this time next year they will be wed.'
'What? Wedding... to Draco?' Hermione sputtered as the news finally sunk in.
'Yes, dear you agreed to assume care of Scorpius and that falls to the mother. So, you.' Lucius stated matter of factly. 'You will be marring Draco this time next year. Unless you want it sooner?'
'Draco you want to marry me?' Hermione sputtered.
'Well as you pointed out, I need to think about Scorpius first and then me. Scorp loves you and I can see us making a go at it, you can hold a decent conversation, look sexy in a ball gown and I have had a crush on you since 4th year.' He blushed at the confession. Hermione sputtered.
'And you don't have a problem with him marrying a mudblood?' Hermione rounded to Lucius.
'Please Miss Granger do not use that word in this house again. You have proven to me time and time again your blood is just as good as mine. And the little discussion we had the other day was true, we need to think about Scorpius first. Draco has stated his acceptance of this arrangement. I think you will keep him on his toes and the two of you will give us some beautiful, smart grandbabies in a few years' time.' Lucius looked to Narcissa for confirmation.
'Oh yes, beautiful, smart grandbabies.' Narcissa gushed.

'Daily Profit exclusive: Draco Malfoy has announced his intent to court one Hermione Granger.' Flashed across the front page. By Lavender Brown. 'Narcissa Malfoy told me early this morning that her son will start courting the brightest witch of our time.' 'Hermione Granger will be a wonderful addition to our family.' Lucius added. So you heard it first here and in a years' time we should be hearing wedding bells?'
'What is this tripe?' Ron bellowed as he shook the paper in Hermione's face.
'What's did Rita post this time?' Ginny snatched the paper from Ron. 'You're what? Have you lost your mind?'
'What, Draco, she would be good for him and Scorpius.' Pansy growled back. 'Just like Marcus is good for you and I'm the better choice for Harry.'
'You can't marry him he's a death eater!' Ron bellowed again.
'Only to save his mother and you know it. He helped us defeat Voldemort.' Hermione snarled in his face.
'Fine if you go through with this I'm done. I still love you and I won't stand by and let you marry him.'
Ron, don't say that!' Harry spoke. 'You have been dating Lavender. So why can't Miya be happy too? If you cut her out of your life you're cutting me out too.' Ron's head spun around to look at Harry's last statement. 'Ron she is my sister and I will support her.'
'But Harry…'
'No Ron, I will stand behind her. If Draco is who she wants then that is who she will be with and We…' looking over to Pansy, getting a nod. 'Will support her. Just remember, with Draco having the best back yard we will all be over there playing quidditch.'
'Who's got the best back yard?' George said as he and Fred stepped out of the floo. Ron threw the paper at them to read. 'Can you believe she'd marring the ferret?'
'Yea we can.' They both nodded after reading the paper. 'They are both smart, they will have beautiful blonde babies.'
'Oi, don't get me knocked up already we haven't even married yet.' Hermione snarked.
'Oh yea, and as Draco's best friend I get to be their godmother.' Pansy started to dance in place. 'A baby to shop for…' Fred and George started to laugh at the look on Hermione's face.
'What's so funny?' Draco asked as he stepped out of the floo.
"What are you doing here?' Ron growled.
'Um, I work with Potter?' Draco shook his head at Ron, Fred and George retold the morning's story.
'Sorry Miya I didn't think mother would get it in the morning paper. I was hoping you would have time to tell your friends first.'
'Why does she get to be the the godmom when I'm Hermione's best friend.' Ginny snarled at Pansy.
'Pansy you will want to wait for the second child.' Draco smiled at the presumption.
'Why?' Pansy deflated.
'Well first is always a boy and I would think you would have more fun shopping for a girl.' Draco smirked at her.
'Oh, yea I guess I could wait for the second. Ginny would be better for a boy. Being the fun quidditch player and all.' Pansy smirked at Ginny.
'Wait, first of all I never said I was having kids, never less two of them.' Hermione glared at all in the room.
'Hey, wait you already have Scorpius so the next one might be a girl so I call dibbs.' Pansy smiled.
'Hey, you are already Scorpius' godmother, Pans.' Draco announced.
'Fine she can have him, and I get the girl.' Draco looked at her. 'What it's not like he has needed me yet and Ginny would have more fun with him now. She can help teach him to fly.' Pansy smirked at the truth. Ginny realizing the truth to her statement.
'Ok, I get Scorp, I would love to teach him how to fly.' Ginny danced in place.
'Oi, I will be teaching him how to fly.' Draco spoke up.
'Yea but you will need me to bring lil' Marc over so he has someone his size to play with.' Ginny grinned at the truth. Draco conceded with a nod.
'But Potter has James, so we will be two on one.' Draco added.
'We can invite Theo's son Max over.' Ginny added. 'He's just started learning.'
'Oi, I still don't like this.' Ron bellowed. 'I still love her.'
'If you still loved her, you wouldn't have been caught leaving Lavender's this morning.' Draco snarled back, Ron shrank at the news he had been caught.
'So, Ron, I don't see how you can tell me who I can or can't marry as you are shagging Lav-lav.' Hermione snarled at Ron.
'Fine I'm leaving.' Ron said as he turned. 'And not coming back, I will not watch Hermione ruin her life.'
'Well, I think she would be ruining her life if she was to marry you.' George said.
'Ron why are you still here?' Fred said.
'Are you waiting for us to call you back?' George asked.
'Well, it's not happening.' Fred and George said in unison.
