'Good morning Hermione.' She heard as she rounded the corner to the café.
'Morning, Narcissa.' she slumped in her chair.
'Not going well?'
'No.' as she dumped a stack of envelopes on the table between them. Since the trials Hermione and Narcissa met for tea at least once a week.
'What is all this?'
'Proposals. Since this stupid law is going into effect I'm getting.' as she grabbed a handful. 'From every single wizard.' She huffed.
'Well then I guess we need to go thru them and trash the no's and make a list of the possibilities. May I?' as she held up a few.
'No, go ahead you might be able to help me decide.'
'May I ask why the Weasleys are not helping you?'
'Well Ron and I broke up and Molly is taking it very hard… the loss of grandkids.'
'Really, the stupidity.' Hermione's head popped up. 'If you get married to someone else she will have an extra one or two grandchildren to care for. Oh well her loss, let's go thru these.' as she opened and put it on the chair next to her. 'Definitely no, so what are you looking for?'
'Well, I can only hope to fall in love with them after some time but I will settle for finishing my healer studies and be able to work, I'm sorry I don't think I could sit home all day.'
'No, no offence taken, I was taught as a child to be the hostess and party planner. So you need a man to allow work.' She opened another note. 'Nope.' tossing it into the chair.
'Well, you only have these six choices left.' holding up the possibilities. 'Let's do the pros v cons list.' as Hermione pulled out pen and paper.
'Ok, so we have Theo, Neville, Harry, Ron, Marcus and Draco.' She whispered the last.
'Well, Ron is a no… doesn't want me to work. Neville would be nice to me but just doesn't…'
'Yes needs a little… to make the relationship work. What about Harry?'
'Well he is my best friend, he might if I asked out of loyalty but I think he likes Ginny anyways.'
'Well that leaves…'
'Yea three Slytherins… Harry will love that. But will they let me work?'
'Well, I…' interrupted as Arthur came around the corner.
'Hermione?' as he looked across the table to her company.
'Oh hi Arthur, you know Narcissa, she is helping me go thru these as she held up the marriage proposals.'
'You do know, I would have helped you.' Looking disappointed to not being asked, as he rifled thru the notes and studied the list, frowning and grimacing in places.
'Arthur I would have but Molly…' Hermione sniffled.
'You know she just hoped you and Ron would…' as Hermione shook her head.
'But Arthur does she not realize that she would have been getting an extra grandchildren out of this?' Narcissa added.
'Oh right I will pass that on to her. Thank you, Narcissa. But are you sure, about these three?' as he pointed to the three Slytherin.
'Narcissa assures me they would be the best possibilities, these are most likely allow me to continue working.'
'I see, yes they would, I guess making appointments to interview them and see what their allowances are would be the best thing to do.' Hermione nodded her agreement. 'And thank you for helping her with this. Hermione you do know you can always come to me if you need anything? You know where my office is, right?' as Hermione nodded.
'Thank you, Arthur, it means so much to me.' as she got up to hug him.
'Well since you two have this under control and I need to get back to work… Hermione you can come visit me anytime you need to.' as Arthur took his leave.
'Narcissa I thought Marcus was dating?'
'Well, Marcus is but I'm not sure about Theo, but they all know that the girls hold all of the cards and can do the choosing so they send out multiple requests.'
'So, Draco just sent me one in case Astoria turns him down?' Narcissa shrugged.
'I'm not sure of his intentions.'
'Well then I guess I need to get interviews set up.'
~o~
'Good morning Marcus. Thank you for wanting to talk to me. Do you really want to marry me?'
'Well… my mother advised me to send out multiple requests so…'
'Would you be ok with me working?'
'Um…'
'I take that as a no. So thank you for your time.' as she got up to leave.
'Is that it? he snarled. 'Just because I don't want you to work?'
'Well that and for the way you treated me in school. So yes this interview is over.'
'Bint.' He snarled.
'Yea, that the right thing to do. I'd advise you not to do that to any of your other possible intendeds.' Hermione shook her head and left.
~o~
'Hey Draco, thank you for meeting me. Why did you send me a request?'
'Well it is smart to send to all eligible girls, as the pickings are slim.'
'Ok, so would you be ok with me finishing my education and working?'
'Well it is not normal for a Malfoy to work but I know you will turn me down if I say no, so yes you can work.'
'Do you have any other possibilities?'
'Maybe, why? Going to give me the pity vote if I said no?'
'No, just wanted to know.'
'Just so you know if Nott has told you yet, Astoria accepted his offer. So it's me, Flint, Harry or the Weasel or any one of your other offers.'
'Well definitely not Ron I don't want to end up in Azkaban for murder.' Draco snickered. 'Harry I think has his eyes on Ginny and Flint is…'
'Yea I don't see you doing well in his hands.' Hermione's eye brow shot up. 'Not abuse per say but you wouldn't be happy with him. So with me… you can continue to work, full access to the library and if I'm not mistaken you have already struck up a friendship with my mother. And I will take my vows seriously and not cheat on you as long as you visit me once a week for…' She nodded.
'Yes, if you will agree to these terms then… will you marry me?'
'Um, isn't it my job to propose to you?' as he came over to her side of the table and got down on one knee will you Hermione Granger marry me?' as he pulled a ring out of his pocket.
'You knew I would pick you?'
'Well knowing Nott was taken, Flint and Weasel was a hard no…. so will you marry me?'
'Yes I will.' as he put the ring on her finger.
'If you don't like it I will take you to the vaults and you can pick your own out, but I thought this one was more your style, simple, not too big but not too small?' he looked down to the medium size blue sapphire surrounded by small diamonds. 'It was my great gran's ring. She too fell in the simple but beautiful kind of girl. Or at least that is what mother said.'
'It's beautiful I would like to keep this one, you chose wisely.' He came in for a kiss, she blushed as they separated.
'I needed to do that to seal the betrothal.'
'Right of course.'
'Um I guess you and mother need to get started planning.'
~o~
'Hermione why are you sitting down here on your wedding night?' Narcissa asked as she entered the kitchen.
'Um, had a bad dream, so I thought I would try some warm milk.'
'Why did Draco not call for a house elf?'
'Um… he didn't tell me who to call for help.'
'Did he not wake up to your nightmare? He's not normally a heavy sleeper.' Hermione shook her head. 'Was he not in bed with you?' Narcissa's voice rose with anger.
'Um, no he left just after we…'
'I did not raise him to be a cad. You two are supposed to be on your honeymoon and not here in the manor. I need to see to this.'
'Narcissa, please… don't I'm fine. I think I'm ready for sleep now. Good night.' As Hermione rose and went back to her room.

'Hey Theo, congratulations.' Hermione said as Theo passed her going into the study.
'Yea, thanks but I wish I had had my chance for you to interview me. Astoria accepted my after Draco turned her down.'
'What? Draco said Astoria accepted your offer so you wouldn't be coming.'
'Um, he told me you accepted him so I wouldn't need to come over.'
'That little rat bag.' She was fuming. 'Draco Malfoy you lying sack of dragon shite.' She screamed across the hall.
'Why are you screaming?' Narcissa came running from the conservatory. Hermione and Theo explained the reason.
'Draco Lucius Malfoy you get your sorry arse down here right now.' Narcissa had used the sonorus charm the house echoed her demands. Draco came running down the stairs but stop short when he saw Hermione, Theo and his mother standing there waiting for him.
'Did you lie to Hermione? And Theo?' Draco nodded. 'Why?'
'I wanted her for my wife.'
'Why? so you can treat her like shite?' Narcissa turned to Theo have you married Astoria yet?' Theo shook his head. 'Did she want Draco?' Theo nodded. 'Will you treat her better than …?' as she pointed to her son, he nodded. 'Good I'm going to go and get the papers annulled.'
'What?' Draco sputtered.
'Well you lied and you have done nothing to help this relationship grow. And if Theo promises to take care of Hermione I will be going to see the officiant and have him rip up the paperwork.'
'But I thought magical weddings are permanent?' Hermione asked.
'Did you see sparks?'
'No?' Hermione looked around.
'Well then you did not take the magical vows but when you said this was out of necessity not love I didn't want to lock you it to anything permanent. I figured if you two fell in love then we could do the real wedding.' Narcissa said. 'Do you think you could love Theo?'
'Hermione I know you want to finish your studies and then work in healing and I am fine with that.' Theo reached for Hermione's hands. 'And we can try for children if and when you're ready.'
'And you won't leave her alone on her wedding night?' Narcissa snarled as she looked over to Draco.
'No ma'am, I hope to sleep with her every night she will let me.' Theo grinned.
