WEBHEAD SEASON 3 VOLUME 9
It didn't take much time and effort to expose Fredrick Fosswell as the criminal calling himself the big man. 'i called Yuri and had her guys search his office, found his mask and some other odds and ends relating to his dubious actions. The next kingpin he was not.' The web head thought as he was swinging around E.S.U. campus when suddenly his phone rang. 'ok I don't know who that is…' before hesitantly picking up.
"Hey Peter I know it's been a while but Miles said he saw you a few weeks ago!" The voice on the other end railroaded while out of breath. "Wait… ganke is that you? I'm sorry I kinda lost touch with you guys but I could probably meet up with you both in a bit. Miles told me you're both gonna go to visions next year…" but the wall crawler was suddenly interrupted by a desperate shout. "peter! Miles is missing!" "What?!" "He vanished after school last week, nobody has seen him, not even his parents. I thought maybe the bugle could spread the word and that maybe you could help out, you and your friend " "he said he didn't feel safe at midtown anymore, believe me ganke Spider-Man will DEFINITELY look Into this. We'll find him." He told his often enthusiastic younger former classmate before hanging up and subsequently u-turning back towards the city to start his search.
'with everything that was going on with the jackal and how miles didn't feel safe at midtown, the school is where I should start looking' as he swung onto the roof of his former institute of education. 'with the jackals underground lair destroyed I don't even know where else to start!...' after our hero checked every single inch of the school with no luck he wallowed in defeat as he made his exit. 'I searched all over but there's no sign of miles, the jackal or any more underground lairs. He's just GONE'
Once Spider-Man is gone the jackal continues his work in his sub-lair lab. "Alright mister Morales, now that Spider-Man has left the premises shall we continue? I've often wondered what it would take for me to make my very own Spider-Man" he says sinisterly while leaning over the abducted student.
While aimlessly swinging around, looking for ANY sign of miles in the process, Spidey dumps on himself 'some super hero I am! I couldn't save anyone: Gwen, her mother, her dad, Jean, Harry, Norman, Eddie, all the jackals other victims and now I have to add miles to that list. MAN I SUCK AT THIS!' before he spots a girl leaning over the edge of a rooftop 'hey she looks familiar… yeah that's Julia Carpenter, I think she was a year younger than me in midtown but what's she doing?!' As the hero lands on the rooftop a bit away slowly and quietly to not startle her into the unthinkable action.
Finally in a subdued voice with his hands out in a take it easy gesture the webhead said "hey there. I'd be careful…" but this nearly startled the girl into falling over the ledge "whoa whoa easy, I didn't mean to scare you. So what's going on here um…" "Julia. Stay back, I'll jump! I mean it!" While still putting his hands up in surrender "ok look I'm not moving, I'm staying out right here. So Julia, why do you want to hunt yourself?" "Everything's just a lot ok?!" "Yeah I know what it's like when the struggles of life get to you, how it can make a person feel truly alone…" "no one understands me! I'm just that weird creepy dark girl with no friends or anything! Sometimes I want to just be someone else or to just be gone" she said the last part solemnly into her lap. "Look I understand how hard it is to fit in but you shouldn't be forced to give up everything that makes you you just to do it. So you like spooky stuff and not everyone is cool with that but there are lots of other people that will think it's awesome that you're awesome you just have to find them, but that can't ever happen if you do this here and now. Come on down Julia and start writing your own spooky story, your way." The wall crawler said cautiously as he slowly but surely reached his hand out for her to take and take it she did.
Once they had arrived safely back on the ground spidey said his supportive goodbyes and well wishes before taking off again searching for some way to find miles. 'of course that's what I'm doing wrong! I've been searching for any signs of miles or the jackals lab but what I should be looking for is jackals next victim. Everyone he's taken has been a student at midtown and all of them were outcasts in some way so if I can pinpoint who he's gonna strike next I can find his hideout and hopefully that will lead to miles. Wait outsiders… oh no Julia! She's the most likely target'
Seeing no immediate danger surrounding the institute of education the web swinger swung back over to his dorm only to find Randy Robertson cleaning out the fridge or more specifically… "Huh Kevin! What are you doing randy? you can't throw away Kevin!" "It's a moldy piece of cheese parker. Look I know things have been rough for you but you gotta get out there parker, you're never here yet you're always still alone. Meet people, have fun for once." 'maybe Randy's right, I've been so focused on Spider-Man I've completely neglected peter parker. I mean the only person I've met lately is the black cat and it was Spidey who met her not Pete' just then his spider phone pinged with a text message: HEY SPIDER, I GOT YOUR NUMBER FROM YOUR COP FRIEND, HOW COME YOU GAVE HER YOUR DIGITS BUT NOT LITTLE OLD ME ?. ANYWAY MEET ME AT MY ROOF AT 9, I HAVE A LEAD ON WHO'S REALLY PULLING THE STRINGS. "Parker, are you even listening?" The young Robertson asked only to be quickly brushed off. "Yeah thanks Randy I'll start tomorrow, gotta go!" Before rushing back out of the dorm.
When suited up in the black suit the former cat burglar made 'who's really pulling the strings? What's that supposed to mean? I thought the only new crime boss lately was the so-called big man so what is she talking about?! Uhhuh I got some time before I need to meet her, I guess I'll swing by the bugle.' As soon as he walked in all he could hear is jonah's bellowing "THERE'S NO WAY FOSSWELL WAS ACTING AS A CRIME LORD RIGHT UNDER MY NOSE! I WOULD HAVE NOTICED! SPIDER-MAN SET HIM UP! THE WALL CRAWLER USED HIM AS A FALL GUY FOR ALL HIS DESPICABLE ACTIONS!" 'wait a minute…! A fall guy could that be…? Could that be what fosswell was? It was WAY too easy to stop him…. Fosswell was an excellent reporter he never would have left such sloppy clues .. Unless it was by design. I got to find out what the cat knows. Now.' As he does a u turn right back outta there so he can swing towards black cats apartment building, he still hasn't actually been in the apartment only on the roof but that's a concern for later.
When he arrives on her roof she quickly jumps up and over from inside to meet him. "Well hey spider you're early… I guess we got time for a quickie before we hunt down the guy on top, of course when you're the guy on top I can't complain spider" 'wow that's a lot to unpack here but first things first' "cat you said you knew who was really pulling the strings, is he the guy who hired the big man and maybe even the jackal?" "Of course silly spider, he's called the rose and he's taken over the kingpins old empire, the jackal is his chief scientist and fosswell was just his patsy. I don't know who he is but since he's the new kingpin I know where to find him…" "Fisk Tower." He finishes for her.
Sure enough inside the tower there are goons everywhere, as the duo sneak their way by they come face to face with a man in a white suit, purple tie,a purple rose pinned to his lapel and a purple mask hiding his face. "Welcome you two, took you long enough to make it up here." The masked criminal said as he remained unphased in front of the kingpin's old computer setup. "You knew we were coming?!" "Of course Spider-Man, I'm an expert. I knew eventually you'd figure out that I had taken over and make your way to me so I can finally squash your pathetic spider ass once and for all" but before the rose could do anything black cat bullrushes him into a brawl leader away from the valuable information. "I'm the only one allowed to do anything to his spider ass!" 'wow cat can really get her claws out… anyway let's see what we can find out here' Spidey ponders with slight horror as he starts poking away at the roses files. "Now get away from there you wall crawling jackass!" "I happen to like his ass! The real donkey is you rose!" 'wow cat REALLY seems to like my ass, I wonder if she likes anything else about me though…. Stay focused Pete! Whoa the jackal had another sub lab under his secret lair? I'll bet that's where he's keeping miles!' Spidey downloaded every piece of data onto a flash drive that he can sort through later for more evidence or clues to who he is but for now… with the rose and his army of goons fighting the two of them all at once was risky especially when they still had a jackal to rangle.
The two left the tower and headed back over to midtown high. Upon entering the secret sub-lair they find a barely conscious Miles Morales strapped to a creepy science table. "Oh man miles! Are you ok?" The web head shouts so panicked he isn't subtle at all that they know each other. " …. Spider-Man?! You know me?!" 'wow real nice Pete, think fast!' "well you've been missing for a while, your friends and family are super worried so naturally I've heard about you. Let's get you out of here" "wait!" 'uh oh spider sense' but before the spider hero could figure out the danger the jackal comes out of nowhere sticking him with a strange serum. "Ah what did you just do to me!?" But the villain just tries to flee while being pursued by the former feline felon. As black cat chases the mad scientist Spidey frees miles and heads for the exit.
Just as the cat had the jackal cornered he pressed a button that shielded him behind an incredibly strong metal door much to the snow hair mistress' frustration. Running back to help Spidey carry the kidnapped young man out of the place.
Once outside the school the web head questions to see if miles is ok "he was experimenting on me. He shot me up with something but it didn't do anything, he was gonna get rid of me before you showed up. Thanks Spider-Man." "Of course. The jackal has been doing experiments on midtown students for a while, turning them into super powered monsters. Until I can stop him you need to be careful." After an agreeing nod, Miles headed for home, now having a reignited fandom for Spidey. "Hey spider if jackal was turning people into super science monsters, what about that serum he got you with…?" She asked, genuinely concerned for her boy toy's health and safety. "I'm fine cat, it didn't affect me"
They headed back to her apartment and it wasn't long before they were at it again. After Spidey fell asleep black cat slipped away to a nearby jewelry store once again stealing. "I'm sorry spider, I guess it's just the cat in me"
Not long after Spider-Man awoke on her rooftop alone. "Cat? Huh I guess she went back inside. I'll catch up with her later." Before he notices Harry flying around as the green goblin again. When our hero catches up with his old friend it's not long before they're at each other's throats. "What are you doing Harry?!" " Hey Pete old pal just out collecting what's rightfully mine" while patting his supply satchel. But before the wall crawler could make a move suddenly he's in intensive pain coming from his sides. He collapses in agony with what appears to be 4 protrusions threatening to emerge from his torso. Even though Harry had a golden opportunity to kill his former best friend he takes off only citing "killing you now wouldn't be enough, I vowed to take everything and everyone away from you only after that you may die. See you around parker! Hhhhaaaahhhaaa!?" As he flies off leaving the clearly now mutating Spider-Man laying there alone in excruciating pain, the prospect of being remotely normal slipping completely away.
A/N: well the rose has been revealed as the true mastermind, miles has been rescued but how long until whatever obvious effects jackals experiments have on him emerge? What's Peter gonna do now that he's mutating into a six armed spider monster? What about when he finds out black cat has gone back to her old ways? What did Harry take and for what?
