Heather was in a foul mood; she had a run-in with Luz Noceda a few days ago. She had wanted to ask about that cute witch she had a run-in at her family store. But she chickened at the last second and made a hasty apology to Luz before running.
The young human cringed as she remembered that day and felt like kicking herself.
After that embarrassing encounter, Heather decided to ask Luz about her witch friend the next time they ran into each other. Unfortunately, the moment never came, and that made Heather's mood even worse.
So when her dad asked her to run a quick errand to get something he left at the store, Heater quickly agreed. Before she left, her father, Carol, told her to take her time, as he all needed his record book.
Heather smiled a little as she realized her father must have sensed her mood and was giving her an excuse to engage in her favorite hobby.
The young woman got her tools and hurried to the local park. She went to work after ensuring no one was around and quickly got lost in her hobby. She began to hum a tune her aunt taught her.
Heather suddenly heard something snapping, and she turned around. Her eyes widened when she saw the very witch she was thinking about, and it didn't take her long to realize that the witch, Boscha, she remembered, had been watching her.
Heather asked how much Boscha saw, and the witch dodged the question by acting touch. She could feel her anger building but quickly let it go with a sigh. She decided she didn't want to deal with any drama and told the witch to leave.
Boscha didn't like that and tried to egg Heather on. The human just ignored the girl from another realm until she threatened to expose Heather's secret to the town.
"Do you even know anyone in town to blab my secret to?" Heather asked.
The human looked over her shoulder and nearly grinned when she saw the shock on the witch's face. Satisfied, Heather turned her attention back to her garden.
Boscha was slow to recover from her shock as she stared at the human. She couldn't deny the human had a point; the only people she interacted with from this town were the Nocedas and the snake girl's partner.
Boscha sighed bitterly, no longer feeling like teasing the human. She wanted to leave but found she couldn't; she couldn't get her mind off the human and continue watching her work.
Heather was aware that Boscha was still watching her but found herself not caring. In fact, she found the company quite enjoyable.
It was nearly five minutes later before someone found their voice to talk about something.
"Why are you wasting your time on some weeds?" Boscha asked curiously.
Heather sighed and looked over her shoulder. She saw the witch eyeing her curiously. The human stood up and wiped her hands on her work pants. She walked up to Boscha and smiled a little.
"I guess, two reasons," Heather began explaining.
Heather panicked slightly on the inside. She couldn't understand why she was about to reveal one of her most guarded secrets. Still, Boscha's curiousness was so cute that Heather couldn't help herself.
"Well, I like gardening because it was a fun thing I did with my aunt before her passing," Heather said, smiling fondly at the memory.
Heather frowned as she saw a hint of sorrow cross Boscha's face. But the witch looked away before the human could gauge her further.
"And the other thing?" Boscha asked weakly.
Heather sighed and looked over her shoulder. She looked at the flowers, which were simple dandelions. The fond smile returned to her face as she looked back at Boscha.
"I guess it's just something I do when I need to clear my head," Heather explained.
Boscha looked at Heather with a look, and the cheerleader suddenly understood what kind of girl Boscha was.
"You're a popular girl, aren't you?" Heather asked curiously.
Hearing this caused Boscha to smile arrogantly and cross her arms over her chest. Heather nearly rolled her eyes at the sight.
"I'm Boscha Noceda-Trisight," the witch boasted arrogantly, "Captain of the Banshees, top student of the Potion track! So yeah, I'm one popular girl!"
Heather did roll her eyes at the proclamation. Boscha saw this and took it as a sign of disrespect.
"Like, you know what it's like to be popular!" Boscha retorted.
Heather's demeanor suddenly changed, and she looked tired. She let out a faint sigh and looked back at her flowers. This sudden change caught Boscha off guard, and she stared at the human perplexingly.
"...I know what it's like to be popular," Heather said after a moment of silence. "And that's why I hate it so much."
