Far to the north, Thor heard Xander's call too. Intrigued to hear a call so far south from an unknown worshiper, Thor went to the viewing pool. He saw the young man talking to the woman. He wondered who they were and why the young man would call out to him. Something about the young man seemed... familiar. But what? He decided to watch.
Xander was tired, sore and definitely not in a good mood. Finding a man yelling at Cordelia was not helping any of that.
"Now, what's going on?"
"They're not treating all the patients, Xander. They're ignoring the enemy soldiers. But even the treatment they're giving their own soldiers is insane. It's like they have no clue how to treat wounded people. They put them on that alter up there and hope some god will inspire the knowledge of how to treat them. But they're not getting any response, so they're just leaving them to die."
"If the gods do not want them healed, then that is their fate, woman!"
""Call me that again and I'll break your nose." Cordelia retorted.
"The reason they're not answering you, Galen, is they're ignoring you. Not that they want these people to die." Xander told the priest.
"How did you know my name?"
"I know you're meant to learn a lesson here today, Galen. Someone who knows alot about actually healing people is going be here soon. I suggest you listen to her. Her coming here is no accident, it's meant to teach lessons."
"I am to learn to from a woman?"
"Aren't alot of the gods women? If they heard you being so insulting, I'm pretty sure they'd strike you down. I know I'll hit you too if you insult Cordelia again. Cordelia, how are Gabrielle and Ephiny doing?"
"Gabrielle's wounds need to be stitched. Neither of us are qualified to do that. Ephiny is definitely in labor. Beyond that, I don't know. I took the mandatory health classes, but I don't have any idea how to deliver a baby."
"Neither do I, especially Ephiny's. We need Xena here. She said you told her you had a premonition."
"I did, I hope she follows through on her plan. Things will be alot worse if she doesn't. What's special about Ephiny's baby, Xander? What are you Seeing?"
Xander walked over to the table where Ephiny lay. She glared at him.
"I'm not a threat to you or yours, Ephiny. Phantes wasn't evil. You fell in love with the man. The rest was extra."
"You know?" She asked.
"Phantes and I have something in common, Ephiny. Neither of us are entirely human. What lives inside me, is an animal as well."
"What was this Phantes?" Cordelia asked.
"Phantes was her husband. He was a Centaur."
"What's a Centaur?"
"Half man, half horse. The brain, the heart and the soul are human. Physically the bottom half is a horse."
"How?" Cordelia asked, confused, trying to picture it.
"A god who was bored."
Xena arrived then pushing a man in front of her. Cordelia smiled when she saw him.
"That who you're hoping to see?" Xander asked.
"Yes. She can do this."
"Yes, she can. We can try to help make it a little easier. Xena, Gabrielle's wounds need stitching." Xander called out. "Everyone here needs help, these priests here don't have any actual idea of what they're doing. And I need to talk to you over here."
Curious, Xena followed Xander to the corner.
"Xena, Ephiny's baby is a Centaur. It's too big for her to deliver on her own and it's turned wrong anyway. She's laboring and can't deliver. I know you know what to do. You have alot of healing knowledge. You can help these people learn."
"Why do you care about Ephiny's baby? What does it matter to you? Alot of people are prejudice against Centaurs."
"I'm not. They're not evil. They're different. So am I."
"How are you different? Besides that healing thing you can do and the power you have?"
"As I told Ephiny, an animal lives inside me. I can turn into it any time I want. It's not evil either. It's not even separate from me, because my mind, my heart and soul stay the same, regardless of which form I take. Just as Phantes heart, mind and soul were human. To condemn him for being different would be hypercritical. I don't like vampires and I don't like demons, but Centaurs aren't either."
"Alright, I'm going to help Gabrielle, then I'm going to try to help others."
"I may or may not have caused a problem. Galen, the priest was about to throw Cordelia out because she was trying to help the injured and since he hasn't gotten any directions from his god, he thinks that means his god wants the injured to die. I threw the guards into the wall and told Galen he was being ignored because he's meant to learn a lesson. You're meant to teach it to him."
"You're sure about that?"
"Yes. Everyone here can benefit from what you can teach them. You're more then a warrior, Xena. You're a healer. You're trying to heal yourself, aren't you?"
"That's one way of looking at it." She agreed and got to work.
