Chapter Five

Back at the SBPD the psychic consultants finally arrived and were walking towards the interrogation room with Detective O'Hara on there heels.

"Guys this is serious. Don't joke around just give your report and answer a few questions and you'll be free to go."

"Come on Jules! We got this. Right Gus."

"Don't worry Juliet. We will be in and out. I have to be out by 4:00pm so I can finish my route on time by 6:00pm. Shawn has promised there will be no delays. Isn't that right, Shawn? Shawn?" Gus asked then stopped walking along with the detective ounces they noticed the psychic was missing. A quick glance around the department and Gus found him in one of the break rooms with McNab and most importantly-

"Are those donuts?" Gus asked before running off towards Shawn and the box filled with a variety of crullers, bear claws, Boston creams, and so forth.

"Oh hey Gus. Help yourself. I recommend the bear claws." McNab smiled motioning towards the box and moved aside enough for him to notice the young girl sitting down next to Shawn enjoying a Cruller and arguing over whether pineapple or strawberry was the superior donut glaze flavor.

"Hello Buzz. Who's this?"

The girl paused her discussion turning to Gus, "Hello. I'm Emily Lightman. Is it true that you have a magic head and a uh… super sniffer?"

Juliet shook her head, "Well its great that everyone is getting along, but you two really need to get going. Hi Emily how are you doing?"

"Great. Thanks. Mr. Spencer was just telling me that he's a psychic. He also thinks that pineapple is a better glaze than strawberry what do you think?"

"Oh strawberry, definitely."

"Tu et judas!" Shawn muttered clicking his tongue.

"It's 'et tu, brute' Shawn."

"I've heard it both ways."

Gus paused, "Actually that makes sense."

"You know that's right."

"Guys!"

Shawn sighed, "Alright, lets go Gus. It was great meeting you Emily. Even though your tastes need some work."

Both men and the detective left, leaving Emily and McNab.

"Do you have any psychic stories about Mr. Spencer and Mr. Guster."

"Oh do I!"

Shawn and Gus meet Ria Torres and eventually Cal Lightman

"Shawn, Gus, this is Ria Torres she is one of Dr. Lightman's colleagues."

"Neat. So you work for Em's dad. Great girl. Although, I'm guessing you already know that. I sense you and your boss are close, definitely close, enough to let you watch his daughter."

Shawn scanned the brunette up and down watching her narrow her eyes at him.

"Yes, Em's a great girl. Dr. Lightman is also…"

Torres was cut short as Dr. Lightman entered the interrogation room.

"Well go on, Torres."

"Is also a micromanaging pain in my ass."

"Cheeky" he replied before turning to Shawn, "Hello, I'm Em's dad. I heard you made an impression. So you're a psychic huh?" Cal asked as he took a seat and motioned for the others to do the same. Shawn and Gus did so, Ria stayed standing and Juliet excused herself most likely to go watch from the observation area.

"We never introduced ourselves. I am Shawn Spencer lead psychic detective for the SBPD and this is my partner Doughnut Holschtein."

Gus sighed "I also go by Gus."

Cal raised a brow. "So it says in the report that you had a vision that told you Mr. Bainsworth was not lying?"

"No. Not a vision. When I first met Ryan I sensed his fear was real. I could see it in his aura. I knew he was telling the truth or at the very least a part of it."

"Ah, so you can read auras. That's interesting. Must have been quite something for you to post Ryan's bail."

"Yes, well I wasn't gonna let an innocent man stay locked up especially when the real killer was on the loose."

Cal nodded, flipping through the file allowing Torres to take over.

"That's very noble. Especially with Ryan's history of leading the SBPD on several wild goose chases."

"I thought so too." Gus spoke up drawing the attention off of Shawn, "I didn't trust Ryan till almost near the end, but he didn't always lie. Each of his lies had a kernel of truth."

Torres shifted her attention to Gus, "How so?"

"Uh," Gus stuttered for a second before remembering the curly Q's and the handlebar connection. Gus told Ria about the connection and gave the conversation back to Shawn who elaborated a bit more on how they made the connection at the restaurant.

Torres nodded along making sure to take note of what they said and any micro expressions they were giving off.

"And when was it that you truly started believing in Ryan's story?" Ria asked Gus seeing as he was easier to read than the psychic. He was definitely more nervous at being questioned then he appeared.

"After we left the hospital…" Gus explained how Ryan snuck an amnesia patient out of the hospital and into the Blueberry. He also mentioned how they were being chased by assassins."

"So you didn't believe till the very end when there was more tangible evidence? I would think having the word of a psychic with such a reputation with the police department would garner more faith?" Lightman spoke up, eyes shifting from Gus to Shawn then back.

"Well Shawn's visions aren't always accurate. They're uh hard to interpret."

The interrogation continued for a bit longer till Lightman and Torres got all the information they needed for the DA from the two. Torres then thanked the two men with Lightman following suit and they watched as the two left the room.

"What do you think?" Torres asked, gathering their things, as Lightman held the door open for her.

"We should regroup with Foster and Loker before we discuss anything but I don't think the DA will have any issues with their case."

Torres nodded as they headed back to one of the break rooms they were lent.

"I'll call Loker and check in. Do you want to check on Emily?"

Cal turned to see if he could spot his daughter and noticed how she and Officer McNab were no longer in the break room with the doughnuts. "I'm sure she's fine. I am going to take a look around. See if you can order dinner. I'd like to wrap this up as soon as possible."

Torres nodded but found that Lightman was already walking away.

Cal was just about to round a corner down the stairs heading towards holding to see if perhaps Emily was there when he was intercepted by the SBPD's lead detective.

"Mr. Lightman, if I could have a word with you?"

Cal paused trying to look around the man to see if he could spot Emily.

"Yes, certainly just after I check in with my daughter."

Detective Lassiter nodded and together both men headed down to spot Emily laughing as she put her finger prints in the ink pad and then on a piece of paper that McNab had placed for her.

"We have a digital process now that is a lot less messy but this is more fun. Well not fun, but we have had kids here before as a city kid police for the day thing were kids can go through the process of booking and everything." The officer said aloud once he noticed the two men.

"Hey dad look!" Emily said showing Cal pictures of Mugshots. Emily's mugshots where she was posing in different funny styles.

Cal sighed, "Don't tell me you showed your mother already."

"Yup." the teen said with a wide smile, "she said I look great. And if it ever did happen she recited my Miranda rights."

"You look beautiful love. And of course she would. I sent Torres for food and Gill already messaged she'll be round with Loker in a bit if you'd like to join us. You're welcome too Officer McNab. Thank you for looking after my daughter."

"No problem. I'll have to pass though. There is some last minute paperwork I have to turn in. See you later Em, Dr. Lightman, Detective Lassiter."

As the officer walked away Em turned back to her dad, "I like him. We should take mugshots together dad. To show mum. We can even take some with Gillian just for us."

"Sure, not sending them to mum though."

"We'll see."

Lassiter cleared his throat.

"Right then. I need to speak to the Detective for a moment why don't you go upstairs and wait in the breakroom for the others I'll be there in a mo."

Emily nodded and went off, Lightman using the time she walked away to zero in on the detective. He was sure Detective Lassiter did not have any new information to give, so this must be on another matter.

"I'll cut to the chase then it's regarding Shawn Spencer and his psychic abilities."

Torres had just arrived at the police station with two bags of tacos and a tray of the infamous cuatro queso dos fritos, which she had worked especially hard to preserve on the way, when Foster and Loker pulled up. Loker went ahead and help with the tray while Foster held the door open for the two.

"That smells amazing." Foster spoke as the three walked to the break room that Emily was waving at them over.

"I didn't get any drinks, but there is a vending machine down the hall." Ria said as she set the food down on the table.

"I can go get the sodas." Emily said, taking the change that Gillian was holding out to her.

"Em, before you go? Where's Cal?"

"He had to talk to Detective Lassiter again. They've been talking for a while, I think." Emily told them as she went towards the vending machine not noticing a certain psychic's eyes widen at the information he heard.

Shawn was going to leave a while back, but considering Gus was his ride and his best bud decided it was better to do his actual job instead of giving him a ride back, he decided to ask Jules. Who after asking why he doesn't just call a cab or better yet his dad agreed, with the condition that he wait till after her shift.

Shawn turned to look at Juliet who was still head deep in paper work before deciding to go and find Lassie and see what exactly he was doing with master behavioral analyst.
