Peeta immediately ran across the street at Prims words. He opened the door and Mrs, Everdeen pointed upstairs, he ran upstairs and saw she was thrashing around and screaming, she was having a nightmare, he lightly touched her arm and she sat up screaming, she looked around after a moment and saw Peeta, "sorry it was just a dream" "it's ok I get them too" "stay with me" he looked back towards her mom and she nodded, he climbed into bed and she laid her head on his chest, "always" he whispers stroking her arm. They both slept in.
they woke up to the smell of food. Katniss got dressed and peeta went downstairs. "Hey peeta. Thank you for last night" Mrs, Everdeen says, "anything for her" Prim smiled from across the room, Katniss comes down the stairs, "what's for breakfast" she kisses Peetas cheek and walks over to see what her moms cooking, "eggs and bacon, I was thinking you could invite Haymitch over" her mom said. Peeta and Katniss made eye contact "not it!" Katniss calls "ugh fine" "you have to get dressed anyways" he was starts to walk out it Katniss says "watch out for the knife" "not my first time" she sticks her tounge at him and he just laughs.
after about 5 minutes a scowling haymitch with a grinning Peeta walk into the room. They all eat breakfast.
two weeks later.
the next two weeks pass by quickly, Peeta and Katniss spend all day together then her mom makes her come home at night, but they still go to comfort one another when they have nightmares. It was about 6 am and Katniss was about to go hunting, "no peeta" "please" "no" "come on Katniss I want to go hunting with you, please" he stepped into her space intoxicating her with his signature smell, flour, yeast, and his natural woodsy smell. He kisses her jaw "pretty" her neck "please" right underneath her jaw which he learned is her favorite, he feels her tense up and he knows he's won, "fine but you better be quiet, I was very close to wanting to kill you in the games when you were walking so dang loud" she says grabbing her jacket.
once they get through the fence Katniss goes to where her hidden bow is well hidden, "nice hiding place" "yeah my dad carved it out when he was a teenager." Katniss says, she has a fond look on her face but peeta can see the pain behind it, "you think he would like me?" He asks and Katniss laughs, a real laugh, "no" "what!? Why?" "He would not like you because your with me, if you were just a friend he would like you" he doesn't know why but he blurts out "so he would like Gale" "HA! No way he would hate Gale even if he met him for half a second" Peeta tilts his head in question and Katniss can't help but think he looks like a domestic dog, "Gales dad and my dad never got along. Apparently Gales dad took credit for something my dad did which got him a promotion." "Ahh, and you and Gale ended a rivalry because" he asks teasingly, she swats him in the arm lightly, "ok shh your gonna scare off the game." She says trying to be serious but she has a giddy smile on her face. They walk for a while, she shot a few squirrels which one was fat so that was gonna sell great. They were up on a hill and peeta was admiring the view, you could see all of the woods from here, and it's beautiful. They hear a twig snap behind them and they turn around, Katniss loads her bow and peeta reaches for where the knife he had in the arena was. "Whoa it's just me" Gale says but it takes Peetas hand on Katniss's arm for her to lower her bow, "what is baker boy doing out here" his tone doesn't sound mean but Peeta knows he is taking a jab at him, "he begged me to come out here even though he's stupid loud" Katniss says, Peeta pouts and Katniss smiles, "seriously Gale I wanted to kick his ass in the arena when we were hunting, I know he was hurt but still" she turns towards Peeta with a smile and he sticks his tongue out at her, "mature" she says and turns to Gale, she doesn't see anger in his eyes more curiousness and longing, "ok I just haft to check the snares then we can head to victors village" Katniss says and Peeta nods "I'm guessing my punishment for scaring that bunny is I haft to wake up Haymitch" "it's only fair" she says the turns to Gale and asks, "day off in the mines" he nods, he had recently become old enough to work in the mines meaning less time to hunt, he doesn't know this but Peeta and her bring food to the Hawthornes when he's at work, they don't know what excuse his mom makes but whatever it is it's working, "well I'm gonna hunt for a bit longer then head out so I'll see you around" Katniss sighs when he walks away, "I hate how much the games changed me" Peeta starts to worry, is this about him? "What do you mean?" She sighs "I used to feel like he gets me, but now he never will, the only people who get me are you and Haymitch" Peeta lets out a small breath of relief, "yeah I get that" she smiles.
they go home and she prepares one of the squirrels she didn't sell for dinner while Peeta paints. She spends all of her time at his house nowadays, "ugh I got some blood on my shirt, can I borrow one of yours I don't want to go all the way over to my house" "sure" she goes upstairs and comes back down in one of his shirts and god she looked good, "this would be so much easier if my stuff was over here" she says going back to what she was doing but Peeta stands up from his spot, an idea forming in his brain, "you know, you could move in with me. If you could convince your mom" he says nervously, "really? You want me to live with you?" She says shock evident on her face, "I mean we practically already do, and I love you and this would be the next step" Katniss is silent for a moment then smiles and nods, "is that a yes?" He asks not sure, "yes yes yes" she jumps into his arms and kisses him, when they break apart they rest their foreheads against one another, "just gotta convince your mom" Katniss shakes her head, "I've given her a lot, she can give me this" he nods and kisses her again. This is the beginning of a new amazing chapter in their lives. Little did they know a rebellion was brewing.
