Chapter 1

(JAMES' POV)

When James awoke, or what it felt like waking up, he was in the middle of nowhere in a small boat that had a small torch that, at the moment, wasn't lighted. At first, he was thoroughly confused, as the last thing he remembered was his own death and the pain in his body told him that he was right.

'Is this then the afterlife?' He couldn't help but think. 'It is definitely eerie', he thought for a second, but it wasn't as he deserved any better. 'Maybe it's punishment.'

It was befitting, but he couldn't help but wonder if there would be an end to it. And he wasn't exactly very surprised when it seemed that nothing—except the sky and the number of boats that would sometimes appear—changed.

It was like that for a long time and James tried truly hard not to count the times the sun came, only to realize that he had already counted 12 days, although he couldn't say if the same time had passed in the living world.

He had counted at least more than 30 days when things seemed to change suddenly. He couldn't say what or how he knew, but it had happened. And he was correct as, that day, there were a lot of boats that appeared; some of them were occupied with officials of the Navy and the rest he would have sworn that they were pirates.

James ignored most of them: He didn't know any and he had zero desire to actually talk to anyone… He just was tired and wanted to rest.

"Ah, Mr. Norrington… I see death suits you."

And God's sake, how little James had missed him. He had delivered him the heart, only to realize that Beckett's intentions had been… Questionable, to say something.

"As it does you." James replied easily.

And even with his eyes closed, he could notice how the man glowered at him. James thought that even if Beckett had tried to shoot him or something, it would have had little effect.

"Does this means you have lost?" James decided to speak again.

He couldn't decide why he asked since, in that moment, he was certainly glad that Beckett had died after all the terror he had tried to put… And, at the same time, he was worried for the people behind Beckett, for the men of his country… It was, decidedly, contradictory.

"This means…" Beckett almost seethed "that I have died, Mr. Norrington; nothing more, nothing less. I didn't bring just a ship against a bunch of pirates."

James murmured against his breath, but he shrugged and didn't speak again. He may had been interested in knowing what had happened, but he wasn't in the mood to talk with Beckett more than he had done.

Another two days passed when suddenly someone gasped and every boat around seemed to come to life and when James got up from his position, he saw why: Far in the distance, the Flying Dutchman had made its appearance and it was approaching.

As far as James knew, Davy Jones would have never sailed into the territory they were in, so someone had probably killed him… This made him question how he hadn't encountered Jones. Or maybe he had and since he hadn't been especially interested…

In any case, the Flying Dutchman most possibly had a new captain who seemed more interested in doing the job it was assigned to it, apparently. This kind of almost cheered James, because it meant that the days drifting around were finally over.

When the ship finally went over to him and casted him a line, James didn't even think about it and climbed up. Apart from the people that seemed that had come from the boats, there were people that obviously were crewmates of the cursed ship.

The main deck was almost full when someone from the quarterdeck approached them.

"Welcome to the Flying Dutchman, everyone."

And James almost had to stop himself from doing a double-take.

"Turner?!" he couldn't help, though, his tone of surprise.

If anything, James couldn't decide to whom destiny was laughing more. Thankfully, William Turner seemed as shocked as he was.

"Norrington?" And he blinked, as if he couldn't believe it, shaking his head "I… Actually, now it's Captain Turner, I suppose."

"… I can see that." James was able to pronounce at seeing the scar, though he tried to keep his eyes to the other's face.

It looked as they had caught the attention of everyone around and though it was quite obvious that William Turner wanted to talk to James, he seemed to decide to continue his speech.

The captain of the cursed ship cleared his throat "Right. Welcome everyone. Now, I know this ship has been seen as something to be fear, but not anymore. As the new Captain, I will do anything in my power to make your journey to the afterlife as pleasurable as possible. If by any means you wish to still be sailing, you can serve as part of my crew in this ship until you're ready to pass. Otherwise, my crew and I will be here for you. Any questions?"

There was silence and this one nodded at that. His eyes seemed to meet James and with his head, he pointed to a side.

With a little sigh, James went there and waited for the other to join him. This one seemed to doubt for a second before joining him at the rail.

Even though James wanted to wait for him to speak, he decided that he had been patient enough during his time there.

"What happened?"

At this, the other one let out a sigh "Do you want the short version or the longer one?" And before James could answer, he continued "After you saved Elizabeth, the pirates reunited and decided to war against Beckett. One of them freed the goddess Calypso… It's a long story… Anyway, she created this maelstrom and during this, we fought against Davy Jones… I guess I can say that we won, even if it costed my life. We then fought against Beckett, destroyed his ship and the rest of the Armada that he had procured decided to run."

"So, not many deaths?" James couldn't help but ask.

"There could have been more." He answered "But I can't say I wouldn't have wished for a better way…"

"I can imagine." James snorted a bit "So, Elizabeth… She's alright?"

The captain of the ship nodded with a little sad smile in his face.

"You know… I owe you a debt… For saving Elizabeth's life." He commented after a while.

James shook his head "I did what I had to do."

At this, the captain let out a laugh "I was under the impression that you were an Admiral working for the Navy against pirates, Mr. Norrington."

James smirked "Apparently, I was working for a villain. I just did what I thought was right."

This time, the captain truly smiled "And I thank you for that and I wished to pay that debt…" And James was about to retort, but Turner seemed to know and interrupted "I know that I don't have to and that, technically, you provoked this… But I wish to pay for that and that way, you'll be able to settle the debt you think you own for that action."

"I have no idea how do you plan on doing that, Captain Turner." He raised an eyebrow.

"I have my ways." He simply replied.

Said ways turned out to be speaking to the goddess Calypso herself. James had never met her but he couldn't deny that she looked powerful enough to destroy them all.

"Wah can mi duh fah yuh, William Turnah?" her dark skin almost glowed from her.

"… You look a bit different." This one seemed to frown.

She laughed at it and despite the power she seemed to have, she sounded very musical "Mi wud expec suh. Afta all, Mi once more ah goddess an fi mi human form did jus dat."

"That explains it." He nodded, though it looked more directed to himself. "I wanted to ask for a favor." Calypso raised an eyebrow but nodded anyway "I owe one of these men, James Norrington to be precise, a favor… He paid his life to save my… To save Elizabeth."

"An yuh waah mi tuh bi able tuh pay it?" she asked.

James had almost expected of her to be furious or angry… But she looked calm and her eyes weren't leaving the poor Captain.

"She was still my wife before I died, Calypso." He said, as if trying to convince said goddess. This one seemed to frown a bit.

"Wah wud yuh duh fi mi eff Mi did dat, William Turnah?" she asked.

"My job… It was Jones you did the deal with, not with me. I don't really care if it was destiny or whatever you want to say… The contract was with Davy Jones. I am not him." He replied without hesitation.

"Yuh a rampin ah dangerous game, William Turnah… Buh mi will lou ih. Sed deal dat Jones an mi will tek bac yuh fren tuh di land ah deh liv."

"Good, okay, deal." Calypso smiled at that and accepted the captain's hand. She, then, turned towards James, though the captain interrupted her "Just a second." She frowned a little, crossing her arms but didn't move.

"Is this a good idea?" James couldn't help but ask him.

He shrugged "I would have to do my job either way or abandon and turn like Jones… I think she's just putting up with my petition, to be honest." James raised an eyebrow "Just… Take care of Elizabeth if you can and… Well, try not to die too soon."

James sighed but nodded.

Calypso took that as her queue to approach him and before touching him, she spoke "Ih a gwine cause sum pain."

And the moment she touched him, he realized that it really did cause pain. And it was a lot.

&&& A.N.: Hello everyone :) Welcome to the English version of this story!

As you may have figured out, my first language isn't English, so I cannot be sure how good this version is ^^". If anyone wants to proofread it, I think that you would need some understanding of the Spanish language a bit, so you can check what I meant... Technically, I do write the story first in English, but my mother tongue is still Spanish, therefore... If someone wants to beta it, please contact me by PM!

Anyway, this is the first time I write for this fandom: I read some fanfics some time ago in FFnet and I went back into reading some because I watched the movies once again last summer XD

In any case, I had this idea (well, the draft of it) saved, but I had never started to write it. But, here it is. The things that fandom does to us :D

So... For anyone wondering about the use of Patois, it is said that in the original version of the movie Calypso is supposed to speak on it, which is like a type of dialect in Jamaica (correct me if I'm wrong because I really don't know that much about it ). Anyway, I felt it would be better to use it for her... But my idea of Patois is equal to zero and I used this page: jamaicanpatwah translator for it. In case you are from Jamaica and know about Patois, if you see any mistake, please tell me so I can fix it.

And nothing else, thanks for reading until here ^^ Lots of hugs!

P.S.: Remember everything happens for a reason :) Also, Spanish version will have as of today seven chapters, if you want spoilers xD &&&
