Fanfiction: Berenstain Bears

One Hot Summer Day.

During one hot summer day, down the sunny dirt road, Brother and Sister were sweating. They were so sweaty from playing in the hot summer sun. Sister sweated profundity. Brother was parched as he had finished making basketball shoots. They had played basketball. They had play hopscotch. They ran around playing tag among the trees. It was getting so hot that the cubs wanted to cool off. The cubs decide to go inside to find their mama. She might be making them cold, refreshing lemonade. Sister quickly went to look at the treehouse window to see if Mama was busy in the kitchen. Mama was not there. Brother went inside the treehouse by the back door.

"Mama!" He called out . She did not answer. "Where was she ?"

Mama was not at home. She was busy at her quilt club. Was Papa at home? Maybe Papa was at home. They looked for Papa. Brother did not see Papa in the treehouse. Sister came into the treehouse. Her mouth felt like sand paper. Brother gave her a glass of milk from the refrigerator. He slowly dipped his glass of milk. Sister guzzled hers. His throat felt cooler and moist before it was a dry desert. Brother was glad they were on summer break. He had worked hard desperately hard to study in school. So had Sister.

"Where is Mama?" "Where is Papa?" Sister asked.

"Mama was at her quilting club". Brother said.

Mama was knitting. She was sewing as she talked with her friends at the quilt club.

"Oh, and Papa was not in the treehouse. Papa was probably in his workshop building furniture." Brother told her.

Sister and Brother went to look to him in his workshop. Papa would be measuring. He would be hammering. He would be sawing. He would be painting. They could hear him if he was in his workshop. Papa was not working in his workshop. He was not there. Papa was not working hard in his workshop. Was he sleeping in his hammock or fishing at the nearby pond? Was he in the woods chopping out trees for wood? He would be busy chopping wood. He would be hard at work. Papa was working hard in the deep woods near their home. Should we go out looking for him?

Brother looked at Sister. Sister looked at brother.

Sister yelled,"Let's go swimming in the old swimming hole near the woods." Brother and Sister ran into the woods right up to the old swimming hole. Brother took off his red shirt. Sister took off her pink bow. Brother took off his blue pants. He whirled it around before putting it on a tree. Sister took off her pink jumpsuit gently right next to her pink bow and white and pink polka dotted blouse on a small tree.

Sister waddled into the cool refreshing water. Brother jumped into the swimming hole. Sister did a Free Style Stroke sometimes called a frontal crawl. She lied on her stomach with her body parallel to water pulling herself forward while switching her arms back and forth in a windmill movement. She pushed herself underwater and recovered above water. She moved her legs up and down without bending them. She timed her breathing by turning her head to the side while her arm was above the water.

Brother did the backstroke by floating on his back while moving his arms with windmill like movements backwards, He moved his arms in circular motion pushing underwater and back under the water. His face was out of the water. His legs were close together moving up and down. He was a frog swimming.

Sister did the butterfly stroke. She laid down on her stomach facing the bottom of the water. She brought her arms over her head and pushed them into the water to propel herself forward and bring them up out of the water again. As she moved her arms in the water, she pushed her head and shoulders out above the water. Her arms moved like a butterfly in the sky. Her legs stayed together straight while she kicked. She was a dolphin in the water.

Brother did a sidestroke. He swam sideways propelling himself with a scissor-like kick and switching arms. His legs cut through the water. His first arm stretch over his head and his hands met together. The second arm was out of the water. His mouth and nose were above water so he could breathe.

Brother laid slowly on his back floating while Sister dove like a duck with her legs up. Little did they know that Too Tall was watching in the bushes. He took Brother's shirt. He yank Brother's blue pants off the tree. He pulled off Sister's jumpsuit from a small tree. He snickered as he did. Too Tall slowly removed Sister's pink bow from the tree than her white and pink polka dotted blouse. While Too Tall stole their clothes, Brother and Sister splashed around giggling. It was then Brother noticed Too Tall. Brother had barely notice Too Tall between the trees and bushes.

Brother screamed "Too Tall! He is taking our clothes!" Sister went out from water in hurry.

Sister yelled, "Leave our clothes alone! Put them back!"

Brother shouted at Too Tall. "Give us back our clothes!" Too Tall quickly took their clothes laughing. He fled as fast as he could before they could catch him.

Sister exclaimed, "Come back with our clothes! Stop thief!" Brother and Sister stood there naked in the woods for while wondering.

"Oh dear, what would Mama and Papa think?" Sister questioned.

"What will our friends think when Too Tall tells them or his gang?" Brother sounded worried.

"We must go home." Brother finally said calmly. When they did, they went straight into the forest shrubs. They had to sneaked back home. Brother creeped around the trees covering himself with leaves and branches he found on the floor. Sister followed right behind. She darted across picking up more leaves and branches to hide herself.

"We can't follow Too Tall to get our clothes back. We have to go back home to Papa and Mama." Brother explained.

"Yes, I hope they are finally home," Sister replied. Papa had come home with his ax over his shoulder and a cartload of wood. Mama had a smile on her face as she carried her quilts with her knitting basket in her left arm. Papa was sitting in his armchair when the cubs approached the treehouse. Mama was sitting in her chair resting. The kitchen table was set. The kitchen stove had pots warming some food. They were waiting for the cubs to come back home to eat. Brother silently trudged up the front door stairs followed by Sister hoping that their parent were at home. Brother knocked loudly and rang the doorbell as she looked back to see if anyone noticed them covered with leaves and branches. Papa answered the door.

"Welcome home, cubs!" Papa greeted. "Where have you been? Why are you covered with leaves?"

"Let us in, please?" Brother pleaded.

"Please, Too Tall stole our clothes." Sister whimpered.

Mama served the food. She looked surprised when she heard what happened. Brother and Sister sat down in their chairs at the dinner table after washing their hands. Mama put down some dinner rolls alongside the grilled chicken with carrots. It was next to a bowl of berry good mac and cheese. Papa poured some cool lemonade for the cubs. For dessert, there were mug brownies. It was all good as well as tasty. After Papa and Mama cleaned table, washed and dried dishes, they put them away in the cabinet. Finally, Papa asked what had happened as he sat down on his arm chair and Mama on her chair.

"We went swimming at the old swimming hole." Brother told.

Papa and Mama tried their best to consulted the cubs the best they could since they did have more clothes upstairs. Bullies were bullies.

The End
