Lightning and Sally walked through the airport to go grab their bags. Lightning was nervous and depressed the entire fight. He couldn't hide it. Sally grabbed his hand as they walked together. They stood in wait of their bags. Felt like forever. They grabbed their bags and grabbed a cab next. Heading to their motel. Lightning stared out the window. He sighed. Watching the busy city outside go by. Sally noticed how bad this was. He was so worried. Worried after this race he would lose everything. She placed her hand on his thigh. Silently trying to assure and support him. Lightning placed his hand over her's. Still staring out the window….
Lightning unlocked their room door and the couple walked inside the beautiful suite. Sally looked the door behind them. Lightning setting their bags down then walking over to the large window wall and looking at the city lights and city view. Sally walked up and said, "Beautiful, right?" Lightning snickered. Wasn't exactly what he would call beautiful. He looked at his wife with a gaze. The way her eyes sparkled in the reflection of the lights outside, now that was beautiful. "Maybe we can go see my Dad after the race." She suggested with a smile.
Lightning only scoffed, "Yeah, then he can tell me what a mistake I made racing and wasting all my time." "You are going to be okay. As long as you keep your head on your shoulders, Lightning." Sally assured. Lightning shook his head and walked to the kitchen. Grabbing some water. Sally watched him. His anxiety had gotten worse recently. "Maybe we could… Wear in the bed?" She suggested softly with a smile. Lightning stared at her a moment before answering, "I can't. I'm to stressed. Just not right now, maybe later tonight." "It's already tonight. It's almost eight." Sally pointed out. Lightning glanced at the clock on the wall and sighed. Tomorrow was qualifying and then the race. He frowned. He didn't have much confidence left in him at all.
Sally walked up and rubbed his shoulders a little as she gazed up into his blue eyes. "No matter what happens out there, you are my champion." She assured. Lightning smiled a little and thanked her. He did have her. If he didn't have racing, at least he had her. Things were so great with them anymore. "Plus. Got to use my injection tonight." She reminded. Lightning nodded and asked, "Can you do it, or do you want me to?" "I can do it." Sally answered.
"Once I get done with that, I'll make us a quick dinner then we can lay in bed, watch some tv and I'll help you relax before the race." She winked. Lightning smiled and nodded. Sally then disappearing into the other room. Lightning's smile disappeared too. He was already sick to his stomach thinking about how he was going to take losing the piston cup this year. He was going to break the record.. He was going to be the top racer. And now.. Now, he was just fading…
The couple lay in bed. Watching some comedy thing on tv. Lightning wasn't in the moment though. He was to worried and stressing about the cup race. Sally leaned onto his shoulder. Watching the tv show. She then asked, "Are you okay?" Lightning sighed, "Other than feeling like I'm going to puke from overthinking. Yeah, yeah, I'm great…" Sally lifted her head and looked at him asking, "You have to sleep. You need rest. You don't want to race with little sleep." "I know.. I'll… Try to sleep." Sally sighed. Then she starting rubbing his thigh… Rubbing up his thigh. "I could always try to help you get to sleep. Take your mind off things." She smiled. Lightning smiled and looked at her. Glancing down at her breasts before kissing her lips softly. They smiled at one another.
Then he leaned in, kissing her again and they began making out. Sally opening her mouth for him. Their tongues beginning their dance. Sally rubbed his member. It was soft at the moment. Rubbing it through his sweatpants. Lightning moaned which turned into a growl and he pulled away. "Fuck.. I'm sorry. It's.. I can't. I'm"-"It's alright. I understand. You're stressed out. I just thought I'd try and help." Sally replied. Lightning rubbed his eyes with his hand. His eyes burned he was so tired. So, Sally shut off the tv and snuggled up with him. Both cuddling as they lay in bed. Lightning closed his eyes and tried to get some sleep. Trying not to think about Jackson Storm and possibly his own career ending…
Lightning tossed and turned. His nerves not letting him sleep. He glanced at Sally. She was passed out asleep. He sighed and quietly got out of bed. Walking into the kitchen and grabbing a glass to get some water from the sink. He sipped it a little then walked over to the couch. Sitting down and watching a late night show for a little bit. He glanced at the time. 4:50 am. He sighed. He was not getting any sleep. This was not good. He had to race soon! He shut off the tv and walked over to the window view. Staring out at the early morning Los Angeles. Lightning then grabbed his phone from the coffee table and decided to finally call his Mom. She'd be up by now anyway. It rang… And rang…
Hello?
"Hey… Mom…"
Monty.. How are you?!
"I'm alright."
Getting ready for the big race?
"Um.. Yeah… Just… Having a hard time sleeping tonight. Thought I might as well call.. Sense… I haven't…"
I should have called you sooner.
"It's my fault. I'm… I'm sorry about what happened back home… I never meant to hurt anyone.."
I know you didn't. But you and your brother not speaking isn't the way to go about it. He's your brother, baby. Family forgives. But you decided not to call. That hurt him.
"He could have called."
I told him that. But both of you are stubborn. How are things? How have they been?..
"Honestly, things are great. Off the track. Sally and I haven't been this good sense… Well forever ago."
That's good to hear.
"We started trying again."
Don't you think that's a bit soon?… After how the two of you were…
"Maybe. But we are happy and doing so well. We both want this."
Well, if it's what you want. How is Sally?
"She's good. We were talking about the baby's room and baby names, what to do after racing.."
Are you retiring after the cup?
"No… I don't think so… I don't want to…"
You know, Chad hasn't missed a single race. Even sense the two of you haven't spoken.
"So he knows how bad it is…"
Yeah, we saw the rookies.. But you are Lightning McQueen. If anyone can suddenly come back, it's you. I admire that determination, Mon.
"Thanks.. I'm sorry for not calling…"
I guess I'll forgive you. Just this time. But don't do that again. How are you doing? With the alcohol?
"Sally and I finally talked about it… I'm not drinking anymore. I've had… One little episode.. But other than that, no alcohol and no more smoking sense.."
I'm glad to hear it. You just keep your head on straight, son.
"I will."
Well we will be watching. No matter what happens, Monty, I'm proud of you. You should call Chad after the race today. What time again?
"Four here so six for you guys."
Great. We will be watching every bit. You be careful. The cup makes racers crazy.
"I know, Mom. Hey, after the race, I do need to call and talk about holiday plans. Sally's been bugging me to make them with you guys."
Sounds good to me. I love you, son.
"Thanks, Mom. Love you. Talk soon." Lightning hung up the phone and stared out at the city as it woke up. He sighed. His eyes hurt from being tired. His body aches from the dang needles and hitting his head on the steering wheel. If he was lucky, maybe he could catch a quick nap between the race and qualifying. Never the less, it was going to be a long day….
Lightning qualified for seventh. Gosh he hated that. Lightning pulled the Bolt into his garage. Sally sat on the work bench. Waiting. He shut off the car and crawled out. "Well?" She began. Lightning took off the helmet and said, "Seventh.. I can't let Storm get ahead of me at all today. He's starting pole. I'm going to have to draft. I haven't had to draft like that in years." Sally snickered as she hopped down, "That's because your use to being in first." "Yeah.." Lightning mumbled. Sally walked over to her love and took his hands in hers. Smiling. "No matter what happens"-"I'm still your champion. I know, Sal." Lightning smiled at his wife.
Gazing at her. So supportive. So faithful. Lightning then picked her up by above her hips and spun her around and kissed her. Sally grabbed his face and passionately kissed him back. Lightning set her down and Sally instantly giggled asking, "What was that for?" Lightning smiled as he shook his head, "I'm just to happy you're mine." Sally smiled replying. "I'm glad you're mine. Most of the time." She joked. Lightning chuckled to that. The president then walked by the open garage and stared at the couple a moment. Lightning's brows lowered as he stared at the man. The president sighed then walked on. Lightning eyeing him leave. That was a bit weird.
Lightning then announced, "I'm going to go check up on Bobby. If I'm stressed, I know he's gotta be." "Alright, Stickers. I'll meet you in the pits." "Alright, see you there."
Lightning took off. Walking through the garages. Making his way around the corner when he saw Brick arguing with his sponsor, Brick defending, "You can't do this? I've raced for you guys over ten years!" The sponsor replying, "Sorry, Brick. My minds made up. I'm giving your number to somebody else." Brick walking with the man and tying to convince him other wise. Lightning sighed then knocked on Bobby's garage door. As it opened, Lightning asked, "Hey, Bobby. What's going on with.. Brick?" He stopped and stared at the young man in Bobby's suit.
"W-wait, you're not Bobby." Lightning muttered with confusion. The kid adjusted the Velcro at his wrists then corrected, "Names Danny, bro." Then walked on. Lightning stood there a moment. His heart racing. Bobby was gone? At the last race of the season?! His heart beat so fast! Lightning grabbed his chest. He could feel it. The oncoming panic attacks like before. He felt dizzy. He leaned against the brick wall. Staring around at all of the change around him. All the rookies that had taken over. This wasn't the sport he was use to anymore.
Lightning had to get out of here. Just for a moment! He rushed back to his garbage. Walking in and closing the doors. All of them. The Bolt was already rolled away to the pits. So he sat in the empty garage. Sitting. He sat on the cold concrete floor. Panicking. He couldn't do this! He did not want to give up already! He could really use one of those pills Bobby always had on him right now. Fuck. Bobby was gone!?… They were all gone….
Sally stood with the rest of Lightning's crew in the pits. All the teams setting up for the race. Sally then noticed Swift's team. The new car? Than the young man in the suit. Sally's heart sank. Bobby was gone.. "Oh Jesse…" she muttered aloud. Then she heard Sarge ask Lightning something. She turned to see Lightning standing next to her. Adjusting his suit. Sally then said, "Bobby isn't here." Lightning sighed and growled, "Nope, that's Danny. Bobby's sponsor decided it would be better to replace him for the one last race of the year than let him finish it out." Sally frowned.
Lightning's tone. He was extremely stressed. "Stickers…" "I'm fine." He snarled. She knew he wasn't trying to be rude. He was just stressed and panicking. Sally could tell. Guido handed Lightning his helmet and the racer almost put it on when Sally grabbed his arm and stopped him. "Something feels off…" Lightning shrugged answering, "It's fine." "Stickers… I don't know. I'm worried. You barely slept, then this.. You are still sore from going into the tulips." "I'll be alright." He assured then kissed her lips softly before suddenly Storm pulled up in his race car and loudly asked, "Hey champ!" Grabbing Lightning and Sally's attention. "Where'd all your friends go?!" Then spun off to his team ahead. Sally scoffed, "Jesus, what a jerk." Lightning took a deep breath then put his helmet on. He was going to have to beat Storm today. Period….
"A final check of his tires, Storm settles in to his pole position." "Boggity, Boogity, Boogity boys! Let's end this season with a great race!"
The green flag dropped and everyone gunned it up to speed.
Mater cheering Lightning on, "That's it, buddy!!!"
Lightning pushed himself. Bobbing and weaving through racers. Falling behind some then gaining back up. Lightning managed to get behind Storm. Attempting to follow his line for most of the race!
"40 laps to go, and race leader Jackson Storm makes a pit stop with McQueen right on his tail! A good stop here could be the difference between Victory or defeat."
Lightning quickly hit the brakes at his pits and instructed, "Come on, come on, come on. Faster, Guido! I have to get back out there before he does!" He was stressing out and trying to get just a little ahead! "Guido hurry up!" Lightning shouted! The moment Guido finished, Lightning spun the Bolt out and went out of the pits! Jackson noticed the struggle McQueen was having. And honestly, Jackson felt embarrassed for the guy.
The announcers speaking, "Man! What a pit stop by McQueen! He just got the lead!" "But, can he hold onto it!"
Rusteze and team McQueen cheered for their racer! He finally had a one up! Maybe he could do it! But then the familiar black car sped up. Catching up to Lightning.
Sally frowned. Seeing Storm pass Lightning as they neared the final laps. Lightning hit the steering wheel, "Fuck!…" But then he eased up on the gas pedal. Just in shock. Storm winning this meant it was over for him. Lightning's entire career was done. The door closed and locked and he would never get to do this again! He'd never get to experience this ever again! He wasn't ready for that! He couldn't give this up! Not yet!
Sarge then asked, "What is he doing?.." Watching as Lightning eased off the pedal. The Bolt slowing down. Two more rookies passing him. Sally frowned. Crossing her arms as she watched. Lightning was falling apart before them. Before everyone.
"No… No, no, no.." Lightning growled at himself. Shifting the Bolt and pushing the pedal hard. Coming into the turn. He shifted again. Pushing the car faster rather than slowing down on the turn. No matter how fast or hard he pushed the Bolt, she wasn't catching up to the three rookies ahead. "Come on!" He shouted! Pushing that pedal down and the Bolt revved its engine loudly! She was trying! The Bolt was giving it all she had! She began overheating again. "No!" Lightning shouted seeing that!
Lightning shifted again as he came to the peak of the turn, hoping he could gain some speed coming down. Suddenly as he turned coming out, he felt that rear swing on him slightly! He panicked and tried to grip the wheel! Slamming breaks! He down shifted and the car revved loudly! Trying to drift the car back into line! His eyes widened as the rear swung around hard out of his control and he knew what was about to happen.
BAM!
"McQueen hits the wall!" "He's… He's airborne!" "Just… Just barrel rolling like that… God that is a violent crash.." "Just… Wow. Watching something that weighs that much just.,. Getting thrown like a toy car. It's crazy." "Looks like it's over. We got a yellow flag out."
The Bolt finally came to a stop. Landing as if it had finally parked. It was dead silence. Sally's heart.. Her world. Sirens in the back ground. Then Sally felt everything come back. The smell of the gas and steam in the air. Than a bigger realization. "Why isn't he getting out of the car?…" She could barely speak from panic. She crawled over the pit wall. Which was a huge no! Sarge shouting, "Sally! No! It's dangerous!" She didn't care! Mater ran after her. Guido following!..
Chad and Minty stared at the screen. Minty screaming and panicking, "Get out of the car! Get out of the car, Monty!!! Why won't he get out!?? Get the hell out of there!!" Chad stared at the screen. Not his little brother. Not Monty. He hadn't even spoke to him sense the accident. Tears gathered in his eyes. "He's going to be fine." Chad assured his mother. "He's Lightning McQueen, remember?" Both of them trying to believe that was true. That Lightning would be fine!…
The EMT rushed to the scene! Sally tried running up to the car. Oh god, the car.. It was hard to see it clearly right now, but the wing wasn't even properly attached! Security ran out and stopped her from going any further. "Lightning!" She shouted! Mater and Guido ran to her side. They watched. Lightning still wasn't getting out of the car!?
Meg dropped her glass and it shattered! "Cal!" She yelped in such a way that Cal ran in the room with panic! He looked at his wife and her eyes were filled with tears! Cal looked at the screen. Meg ran to her husbands arms and began crying! Cal stared at the screen. "Lightning…" He mumbled. Seeing the accident…
Sally watched as the medical team cut the net off the window of the car. Then one of them leaning into the car. Oh god.. Lightning was dead, wasn't he!? She watched as they tossed the helmet outside the car. Why did they need to do that? Why was he not out of the car!? "Lightning!!!" Sally screamed his name! One of the medics came and spoke with security. Why was this taking so long!? It probably really wasn't, it just felt like it. "Get him out!" Sally shouted! Then she saw the front of the helmet. Her eyes widened and face burned red, her body felt like she was going to pass out. The helmets screen shield in front was busted out. There was blood in the lower part of it, splattered in little specks on the remaining screen.
She grew more fearful. Was he dead!? Was he?! Why weren't they getting him out yet!? Then more security came and said, "I need all of you back to the pits." "No! I'm his wife!" Sally shouted as she fought her body's response of wanting to just pass out. The officer explained, "We're bringing in the helicopter. We need everyone back at the pits that is not medical." Sally's heart was beating so fast. So deeply. "Is he alive?…" She asked the officer. The man glanced at the car then back to Sally, "They are taking him to the hospital. The one on the east side." Sally nodded with tears in her eyes, "Thank you… Thank you!" She then ran back to the pits. She needed to get ready to rush to the hospital. "Please don't die… Don't die on me…" She cried….
Lightning could faintly hear around him. He was so dizzy. So dazed. He could barely see. "McQueen.. Stay with me." Someone said. He could not breathe! His body hurt. Everywhere. It hurt to move his chest to breathe. He felt pain in his hips. Blurry vision. The sound of something thudding. He felt so limp. He couldn't feel his hands. His legs. Was he dead? Lightning couldn't move. He was unable to move. Suddenly he didn't feel the breeze he did before. Where was he? Didn't matter. He was dying. He knew he was. He couldn't breathe, he felt worse and worse by the second. He was gonna lose consciousness. Feeling himself fading. Feeling life drowning. He knew it. He just wished he could have saw Sally one last time…
The medic team inside the helicopter watched the monitor flat line. One of them starting CPR, the other "Give it to me. Charging…." Pressing the paddles to his chest and, "Clear!"….
As Sally tried to leave the pits and headed to the trailer to grab her things and head to the hospital. She was ambushed by press and cameras! So many. To many! She couldn't see! They were all around. Her heart panicking. Her eyes filling with tears. She couldn't handle this! And Lightning wasn't here to protect her from these people this time! Her heart racing. The panic! She just wanted to go to the hospital! But these people just wanted to know so much! "Please… I can't… I…" Sally quietly couldn't answer anything. She couldn't even hear them. Her mind was in panic mode.
Finally, Tex walked over and shouted something at all the hungry media. Shooing them away. Sally leaned against the 95 trailer. Tex pulled the young woman close. Hugging her. "He's gonna be just fine." He assured. Sally broke down. Crying. Crying loudly into Tex's arms. She didn't care whose arms she was crying into right now. She just needed to be held as she cried. Breaking apart. Tex shooshed her gently. Swaying a bit as if rocking a baby. "I'll get you to the hospital. You and the team. He's going to be alright. I'm sure of it." He tried assuring. But Sally still just cried into his arms. She saw the helmet…. Sally sniffled and said, "He didn't get out of the car…" Tex sighed and nodded. Sally then adding, "His helmet was crushed in the front.. There was blood.." her heart breaking. She cried again. Tex shooshed her and motioned his employees to get the helicopter ready….
Sally stared down at the accident…. the bolt… The lights of the stadium from the helicopter. The Bolt… She sighed and wiped her eyes. Trying to calm down. But the tears began again! She was left in such darkness right now. She didn't even know if he was alive! They were taking him to the hospital. So that had to be a good sign! Right!? Sally watched the stadium disappear. Then finally arriving at the hospital. She was escorted by security to a waiting room. She sat down. In one of the chairs. The rest of the team was taken by car. So.. She'd be there alone for a while.
Sally sat in one of the chairs. Alone. In the private waiting room. No one else was there. She began crying again. Pulling her knees into the chair. The crying was loud, snotty, puffy eyes.. "Please don't die…" she whimpered. Holding herself and crying in pain! She looked at the clock. The accident had happened about 7:15pm.. It was only 8:45 now. She cried. Crying to herself… She wasn't ready to lose him!… She was angry! She was hurt! "Please don't die!…" She screamed and cried! "Don't leave me!…Please… Please…" she cried….
It was nearly 10pm before the team got to the hospital. They were escorted to the private waiting room with Sally. Mater running and hugging Sally. He had been crying just like her. "Where is he? Is he okay?!" Mater asked. Sally cried into her old friend's arms before answering, "I haven't heard a thing… Every time I try to get any information, they tell me the doctor will come soon.. I don't even know if he's alive!?"
Sarge then saying, "If they haven't come and told you anything, he's alive. If he wasn't, they'd have come and told you they pronounced that already." Sally stared at Sarge. Oddly, that didn't make her feel any better right now! She cried more. Crying into Mater's chest. Filmore then explained, "Sorry we were so late… The media was making it hard to park and get into this place." Sally understood though. The team and Sally waited. For hours. Staring at the clock on the wall..
11:05…..pm
12:30….am
1:25….am
2:15am. Sally's eyes were heavy and swollen from crying. Not getting any information was killing her. She stared at that dam clock. It was the following morning. With no news! She wiped her eyes. And felt the heaviness of the stress and tiredness getting to her. She needed sleep. Then the door opened and a doctor walked in! Sally stood up, the team waking up as everyone wanted information! Sally ran up to the man and asked, "Is Lightning okay? He's alive!?" "He's in recovery." "Is he going to be okay!?" Sally asked loudly.
The doctor then explained, "He's got a rough recovery. A couple surgeries ahead, but he should be. Should wake up within the next… Fifteen, thirty minutes." He said with a smile, "He looks rough. Swelling and bruises, a few brakes. For now, I don't want visitors. Except you, his wife. I'm sure he'd love to wake up with you next to him." The man smiled. Sally thanked him! Thanking him over and over then grabbing her stuff. The doctor then said to the team, "I'll come back for any questions shortly" Then escorting Sally to the post Op recovery….
The doctor opened the door and let Sally walk in first. Sally slowly walked in. Seeing Lightning with a bandage wrap around his eyes, thick bandages over his chest.. "What happened to his eyes?" Sally asked softly. The doctor sighed then explained, "Some little debris specks from I think the windshield. Maybe a helmet screen had gotten into his eyes and around his face. I removed all of that and placed special drops to help the eyes heal, but he'll need surgery eventually. Broken ribs, shoulder, knee. So I repaired what I could for now. He will be needing more repairs soon.." "You couldn't go ahead and do it?" "No. His blood pressure and pulse kept dropping. I needed to stabilize him. Which he is now. He's on some pretty good pain medications. So he may be a bit out of it when he wakes up. He's gonna hurt. He's gonna hurt like he's never hurt before. And he's going to need physical therapy.."
Sally nodded then walked over to Lightning's side. His hands looked so red and bruised with small cuts. She placed her hand on his gently. The doctor smiled and said, "I'll be back to check in on you two." Then left. Sally sighed and sat down in the chair next to Lightning's bed. "How dare you scare me like that." She whimpered. Wiping her eyes. Sitting and waiting for him to wake up…
5 minutes…
12 minutes…
18 minutes…
25 minutes went by, but Lightning still wasn't awake. Sally began to worry. The doctor knocked and came in. "How are we doing?" Sally stood up announcing, "He's still not awake." The doctor walked over and looked at Lightning's vitals. He nodded then said, "Let's wait a little longer. If anything we could push a medication that is similar to steroids. It kind of gives his body a boost if you will. We use it to help patients wake up that have a hard time waking up or coming to. Is that something you'd like to do?" Sally nodded. The doctor smiled and looked at his watch. "I'm gonna give him…. say… Twenty more minutes then I'll push the drug." He then left the couple alone again. Sally gently petted Lightning's hand. His bruised and cut up hand. "Please be okay…" She whispered… worried about him so badly….
25 minutes went by. No change. The doctor and a nurse came in. Sally stood up and asked, "Is he okay?" Wiping her eyes, "He still hasn't woken up." The doctor nodded answering, "We're just gonna give his body a little boost. Should help him out. It may not wake him up, but it will give it a jump on the healing process." "Okay." Sally replied. Then watched the nurse put the drug into Lightning's iv. She sighed. Terrified. What if he didn't want up? Another nurse then came in. Knocking on the door and whispering, "Sir… Doctor.. I need to speak with you… Kind of urgent before more decisions are made.. regarding a directive we found on file…"
The doctor raised a brow and asked, "For?… Mr. McQueen?" The nurse nodded. Sally curiously asked, "What's that mean?" The doctor smiled answering, "It's nothing to worry about. He should wake up soon. Don't worry. I'll come and check up soon." He and the two nurses then left the room. Sally sat there and let out a sigh. Frowning as she stared at her husband. How would he react to the accident? Would he fall back into depression? And the pain? What if he began drinking again? Lightning was going to have a long road of recovery ahead….
Minutes passed. Nothing. Sally grew more and more anxious by the minute. "I love you…" She whispered to him. Then she grabbed her phone out. 17 missed calls! "Oh crap." She muttered. Minty! Sally pulled up her name and almost called but then the machines began beeping over and over. Sally stood up and looked at them. She may have been married to a doctor in the past, but she was clueless as to what was going on! "What?.." She stared at the machine screen. The little pulse line she guessed. It was rapidly spiking up and down up and down in a violent scribble. "Lightning?" She questioned as if he would tell her what was wrong. Then his body began to shake violently. Sally panicked! He was having a seizure! Nurses rushed in and Sally backed away. "What's wrong!?" She asked loudly. The nurses turned him to his side as his body continued to shake.
Finally his body stopped shaking. The doctor walked in and asked, "How is he?" One the nurses answering, "He had a seizure. Stats are dropping though. Look." Pointing to the screen. The doctor looked at them then to Sally and said, "You need to leave." Sally's eyes filled with tears as she asked, "Why? What's happening!?" Her heart pounding out of her chest. The machines began going off again. This time, a second one began to go off! The nurses adjusted Lightning back on his back when his body gasped for air. "Leave!" The doctor shouted at Sally then he went to Lightning's side and listened to his lungs with the stethoscope.
Sally stood there. The machines alerting of whatever was going on inside him. The doctor turned to the nurse and whispered something. The nurse then grabbed Sally's arm and said, "Let's go." "What is going on!?" Sally shouted. Suddenly the beeping was faster on one of the machines. "Start CPR. Call the O.R." The doctor ordered firmly. The nurse slipped gloves on and began. The moment she pushed down into his chest, blood came out of his mouth. Sally's world fell apart. Seeing the blood drop from his mouth. it poured…
The nurse doing CPR compressions and more blood coming out every time she pushed down. Everything felt unreal and slow motion. She couldn't hear anything suddenly. Her vision fading. Suddenly, Sally felt someone shove her forward and Force her out of the room. Everything fell back into motion. "Let us save your husband." The nurse said before closing the door. Sally stared at the door. What was happening! Was he going to die?!….
Sally sat in the waiting area once more with the 95 crew. Everyone waiting. Sally was exhausted at this point. She glanced at the clock. The numbers all blurring together. Looked to be around 8 in the morning. Lightning was back in surgery again. She sighed. Sitting in the chair and sniffling. Wiping her eyes when the tears pulled. Mater sat down next to her and asked, "Do you think he'll be okay?" Sally frowned, "I don't know, Mater… It's bad…" Everyone stared at Sally. She was so broken. No one had ever seen this side of Sally before. Not like this.
The door opened and everyone stood up. Hoping for good news. But it was only Rusty and Dusty. Everyone stared at them. It was quiet. Sally sat back down. Her crying beginning all over again. The two brothers came in and Sarge walked up to them explaining, "He's in surgery again. They had an incident in recovery." Rusty sighed. Dusty then asked, "Have they not said anything?" Sarge shook his head. Rusty and Dusty glanced at each other. They knew it was a bad wreck, but dam. Rusty walked over to Sally and knelt down to her level. "Hey… He's gonna make it." Dusty coming over and adding, "Yeah.. Remember, he's Lightning McQueen for Chryslers sake!" Sally wiped her eyes and explained, "This is to much… This is to much… Even for Lightning.. He had blood coming out of his mouth… They were having to do CPR!" She shouted at the brothers.
The brothers just stared at her. She looked horrible. Lack of sleep, stress and crying had done a number on her. Dusty handed Sally a tissue from his pocket. Sally thanking him and wiping the tears from her eyes, the snot from her nose. The door opened again and this time it was the doctor. Sally ran to him and pleaded, "Please tell me he's okay. He's alive, right?" Just praying to herself he was! Lightning was going to be okay! The doctor sighed, "He's in recovery again." Everyone was relieved! Sally then said, "Take me to him." The doctor shook his head. "I'm going to give him time to recover and wake up. I need to see if he can stay stabilized." He explained.
Sally began crying again as she asked, "What does that mean?! Is he going to make it?.." The doctor stared at her a moment. Thinking of words before answering, "The first day is always the worst. I'm determined to get him through the night. Once he's stable, I can go from there." Sarge then asking, "So what's not stabilizing?" The doctor glanced at the older man before answering, "His oxygen and Blood pressure keep dropping. I need to get it stable before doing further treatments. So I'm gonna keep him for now and keep an eye on him.." Sally then asking, "What happens if you can't?" "Then I'll do a round of oxygen treatment and medications. But let's see how he does first."
Dusty then asked, "Will he race again?" Everyone listened for that. Mater then answered with, "Of course he will. He's Lightning. It's all he knows." The doctor frowned a bit before answering, "In all honesty… I don't see many people come back the same after these sort of injuries…" Sally cried again. God dammit she wished she could stop crying! The doctor placed a hand on Sally's shoulder and said, "I'll update in about an hour." Then left the room. Sally fell to her knees. "God dammit!" She shouted and hit the floor with her fists. Filmore walked over and tried comforting her. But nothing helped.
Bbbzzzz… Bbbzzzz. Sally's phone went off. Sally picked it up as it went to voicemail. 28 missed calls. "Fuck.." She whispered. Minty and Carson, Bobby, Meg..Sally pulled up Minty's name as she stood up. Calling her Mother in law… How and what was she suppose to say!? That her son could die!? Lightning hadn't even spoken to her or Chad as far as she knew! This was bad!
Sally…
"I'm so sorry. I should have called you back sooner.. I was just… It's bad.. It's really bad Minty…"
I… Well… What's going on?
"He's in surgery again."
Okay… What did the doctors say?..
"His vitals keep dropping. There was blood.. And… His heart stopped working and there is so much!.." Crying hard into the phone. "They won't let me see him!.."
Minty held the phone on speakerphone. Her and Chad stared at each other. Tears gathering in both of their eyes. Chad then saying, "We are on our way. We'll be there soon."……
