Kaiju Fighters Ch. 39 New Year's Special Part 1
Late night on New Year's Eve, Gojira and the other Kaiju Fighters, minus Anguirus are waiting in front of the large building. The Kaiju King is wearing a black suit and his signature glasses. He pulls at the collar, understanding why his cousin hates these.
Mosura is heard scolding Rodan, "Rodan, get down and take those goggles off!" she is wearing a long brown dress with sleeves that have yellow dots running down them, while the flyer has a red suit.
Rodan removes the goggles and pockets them. "But without them my Cool Meter goes down. Plus, I need them for flying."
Manda comments, "Didn't know it could get less than zero." the water dragon has on a sea green, short, sleeveless dress, she also has a small purse hanging around her shoulders. Her brothers can be heard snickering. Varan has a sandy brown suit and Baragon a darker red suit. Varan is of course moving his arms around, still not liking sleeves.
"Besides," Rodan continues. "The G-Man gets to wear his glasses?"
Gojira tells him, "Because humans are uneasy by the sight of my eyes."
"Prove it!"
Instead of retaliating, Gojira turns to a group of humans passing by. They froze for an instant as they noticed that they were staring. He then removes the glasses to reveal his yellow and fiery red eyes that causes them to flinch and rush inside. The kaiju king places the glasses back in their place.
Rodan slouches. "Fair enough."
Manda tugs on her dress a bit, not fond of how tight it is in certain areas. "Why are we doing this again?"
Moll and Lora speak in unison. "For more exposure." The Shobijin are wearing matching dresses. Moll an orange and yellow dress with a right yellow sleeve while the other is bare. And Lora has a blue and green one with a green sleeve on the left side and none on the other.
Moll continues. "You see, news reports are okay to let people know that you are protecting them."
Lora adds. "But that doesn't really tell people who you are and that you're generally nice."
Mosura then sighs. "There's also the fact that apparently there is some other organization that wants to take care of the kaiju threat themselves. They want to cut our funding and have us shut down."
Baragon then asks, "Wouldn't that mean we wouldn't have a home anymore?"
The guardian of peace nods, "I'm afraid so. However, there are some people in position to help ensure that never happens."
Rodan shrugs, "If they say no, you could just magic them into giving you money."
Mosura shakes her head. "I could, but I won't. And even if I did and it gets out, that will only place mistrust in us."
Varan then brings up, "Why isn't Caesar here? He'd be better at smooth talking humans than any of use."
"Perhaps. But he had a prior commitment this evening and insisted that he could not cancel."
At that moment, a limo parks in front of them. The driver steps out and eyes the group while walking around to open the door. Liz steps out wearing a gold dress followed by Anguirus in a tan suit. He grunts and turns to his wife, "Why did we have ride in this thing again?"
"Because, Angy, when attending an extravagant party, you must show up in style," then she starts massaging his shoulders. "Now, stay calm. Don't want you to rip your nice suit," then she looks past him and says, "Are you sure Amy will be alright with your mother?"
"My mother will enjoy it," Kimiko steps out wearing a dark blue dress with a knee length skirt and long sleeves. She then mumbles, "She'll probably use it for practicing being a grandmother."
Gojira does not know why it happened but, he finds his jaw hanging low as he stares at Kimiko. He is brought out of his stupor by the agent's voice.
"Are going to say something or do you plan on catching some flies?"
The king of the monsters just coughs before saying "You look nice."
Kimiko grins a little. "Just nice? Is that all you have to say?" then starts giggling seeing him stumble with his words. "I'm only joking, Goji. You look rather nice as well," she straightens his tie.
"Thank you," he tells her. "I thought you said you weren't going to be here?"
"Ugh! Usually, I would never attend these things. Too crowded, you know?"
"I know," Gojira glances to the side where a couple had stopped to stare at the group. Once they were aware that he noticed them, they rushed inside.
"Not to mention many of these people are stuck up," the agent sighs. "But Mosura convinced me saying that a human's perspective would help her case. Don't want you guys to end up living in a cave."
The alpha kaiju just shrugs. "Wouldn't be the first time for most of us."
"Right," Kimiko shakes her head. "Well, let's head in."
As the group heads in, Mosura approaches the sea dragon and whispers, "You got your moisturizer. It's going to be a long night."
Manda pats the purse, "That's why I'm wearing this."
.oOo.
The main room of where the party is being held is large and full of people who stopped mingling as soon as the Fighters entered.
A man walks up to them followed by a security detail. "Welcome!" he walks up to each of them shaking their hands. "It's so nice to finally meet the Kaiju Fighters. You've done this country and the world a great service. Or so I've heard from the reports."
Mosura walks up to the man. "Prime Minister," she shakes the man's hand. "I'm guessing you know why we're here."
"I do. I'm normally not willing to discuss such affairs during these events. But I'll make an exception this time," the Prime Minister gestures for the guardian of peace to follow.
.oOo.
Soon the group disperses throughout the room. Mingling. Or at least trying to.
Baragon, Varan, Anguirus, and Rodan are standing around getting some drinks. The only one taking it slow is Anguirus as he only had a couple of glasses.
"This doesn't taste the same as beer," he comments.
Baragon wraps an arm around the spiked kaiju's shoulders. "I rather like it. It's fruitier and I don't usually like fruit," the earth guardian probably has had the most to drink. He then spots Lora whose sister had left her not long ago. He grabs a second glass and leaves the group without saying a word to approach the Elias, "Care for a drink?"
"B-Baragon?" she stares at the offered glass. "You know that I don't—"
"It's wine. Supposed to be more accepted during parties like this," he insists. "I won't tell anyone. And if it makes you feel any better, we'll go into a corner or out in the hall where no one'll see us."
Lora smiles before hesitantly accepting the glass.
.oOo.
Liz had left her husband alone with his friends. She is attempting to get into the 'It' crowd. She found a group of women who are gossiping.
"Hello," she approaches them. "I'm Liz."
One of them shakes Liz's hand. "I'm Yukio," and eyes the expensive dress she is wearing. "Cute dress."
"Thank you. My husband got it for me," Liz shows it off. "Well, I got it. He just paid for it. He has no idea that there's a difference between sensible and casual."
"Your family here for the New Year?"
"Actually, we live here."
"Sorry," Yukio apologizes. "I assumed because you are American."
"Me and my daughter are from the U.S. but my husband's from here. We met while he was there on business," the woman is handed a glass from a waiter and accepts it. "I wanted a new life for us, and he offered it to me."
"He sounds lovely. Almost wish my man was like that. But his only use is that wallet of his," Yukio comments before gesturing across the room. "Take a look at the circus crowd."
Liz turns to see her husband with his friends.
One of the other women laughs. "I can't believe they're allowed in public. Especially the short one. He's ugly. Even if he didn't have that nose of his."
"What a freak," Yukio says getting a few giggles.
"I don't know," another says. "I think the one in red is kinda cute," then smirks before commenting. "If not for those wings.
All the women aside from Liz giggle at that. Liz just takes a sip from her glass, using it as an excuse as to why she's not laughing.
Anguirus' back is turned to his wife and her new friends. However, he was able to hear every word from them. He unknowingly breaks the glass in his hands. "Sorry," he tells the waiter.
Varan places a hand on his shoulders. "Don't let it get to you, man."
The spiked kaiju just growls before walking off.
.oOo.
Manda is just trying to get away from all the noise and whispers when she gets bumped into. "Watch it!" she snaps.
The man who bumped into looked almost out of place as she does. He was not as neat with his hair nor clothes, face unshaven, and he appears to be fidgeting. "My apologies, miss," he tells her before walking off.
The sea dragon just rolls her eyes and continues walking. Until a man catches her attention.
"Are you one of those kaiju?"
Manda just sighs and faces the man. "Yes I am. Take a picture it'll last longer," she tells him with a hand on her hip.
"Sorry," he rubs his head. "I'm Koshiro. I've seen you guys on the news. I appreciate what you guys do for us," his eyes then wander up to Manda's horns.
"You're staring."
"Sorry, it's just your horns. I've never seen anything like them. May I, may I touch them?"
The sea dragon's face grew flustered. "To touch one's horns is only considered for a moment of intimacy."
The man smiles, "Well, we could have such a moment together," and takes a closer step before reaching up to run a hand down her arm.
Manda's eyes widen, Is he suggesting?
His brows then arches, "Wow! Your skin is really rough."
"Oh?" she looks at her arms and sees that she is drying up. "Downside of being a water faring kaiju, I have to keep…" when the water guardian reaches for her purse, that is when she notices it wasn't there. "No, no, no!"
"What's wrong?"
"I have to keep my skin moisturized, otherwise it could be hazard to my health. But my purse is gone along with my moisturizer," she takes a deep breath. "Look, your offer is nice, but I doubt you'd want me when I'm all dried up."
Koshiro smiles, "If you need to freshen up, I can wait." he then walks off.
.oOo.
Mosura stands across from the Prime Minister with Moll not far behind her, finishing her explanation. "That's why It's vital to keep running, Prime Minister."
The Prime Minster thinks for a moment. "You made some valid points, Ms. Hikari. But many citizens still fear your kind as a whole and prefer the assistance of fellow humans."
"That's another reason. We need to build trust between our people. Do this by showing them that not all of us are bad people."
"I disagree," comes a new voice. Walking up to them is an older man. Mosura can tell from his posture that he is a soldier or at least used to be.
The Prime Minister smiles and shakes the new man's hand. "Amaki! Glad to see you could make it. Ms. Hikari, this here is General Amaki. He's—"
"The Director of K.A.N.E." Mosura finishes. "He's the one trying to shut us down. I've read the reports."
The Director huffs. "Reports, right? You sure that you didn't read the Prime Minister's mind?" he then faces the government leader. "Prime Minister, I feel the need to inform you that Mosura Hikari and her two secretaries have telepathic abilities."
"I've been open with that since the beginning!" the guardian of peace insists.
"How do we know that you haven't been picking his brain to get what you want?"
"I would never to that. And if you're so concerned about it, why put you in a vulnerable position?"
In response, Director turns his head to reveal he has something attached right behind his ear. "This transmitter prevents neural interference. There's no way you can penetrate my mind," the man then glares directly into Mosura's eyes. "I find it hard to believe that you don't have any personal gain from this deal. One of the many things I don't like about your kind is that you do the things you do just because you can," with that, he leaves.
Mosura turns to the politician to plead her case further. "Prime Minister, I—"
However, he raises a hand to silence the woman. The joyous expression he has been wearing is now replaced with a neutral one. "If you'll excuse me, Ms. Hikari, I have some other business to tend to."
