Chapter 5 All Mine
Trina cracked one eye open as she groaned in pain. She had no idea where she was or how she got there. She looked under the cover, she was wearing a large polo shirt.
"Where am I?" She groaned.
"Where you belong." He answered.
"Spencer? How did I get here?" She covered her face with the cover.
"I'd like to think that the fates were on my side for once, but it was likely a rideshare." She groaned.
"What happened to my clothes?" She asked still under the warmth of the comforter.
"You woke up to vomit…well, let's just say that it wasn't pretty. I had to change your clothes. I didn't take pleasure in it. I was worried." She peeked out from under the cover.
"I didn't think you would I just wanted to know." He nodded and she retreated. "I am so embarrassed. I just want to hide."
"Don't be—"
"What happened? Don't hold back." She told him but he didn't trust it.
"I'm afraid to not hold back. For fear that the little progress we made will be undone." He sighed.
"I was jealous. Extremely jealous. I waited for your call, and I was a mess when it never came. I had half a mind you hunt you down to make you see that you are mine just as I am yours, but you decided, and I respect it. Then you showed up at my door highly inebriated." Spencer paused before continuing. The last thing that he wanted to do was overwhelm her.
"So I tried getting you hydrated and not deck the person responsible. I thought that I was successful, but you woke up and vomited, and well…I stayed up to make sure you were good. It was nothing. Just please be careful when you are out partying." He said sincerely.
"Not nothing. I know that you do not like Andres and that it takes a lot to not lean on habit. I appreciate that. Trust me, I was careful, but shots are not for me." He exhaled shakily.
"I appreciate you. So, I decided that if he makes you happy then….I…could…possibly…No! I will accept that. It will hurt like shit, but I get it and I will accept it." She stayed under cover.
"Spencer, you know better and that is the most infuriating part!" Trina yelled and then held her head.
"I don't know, shit, sorry. I refuse to rely on my assumption no matter how cocky you perceive me. I have seen greater men fall." Spencer trailed off.
Please. There is no greater man and that is the issue. You know that. You know that at the end of the day, no matter how I try, I am still yours. My heart still lives in your hands. She spoke silently from under the covers. She didn't know if her heart could trust him with that information. She peeked out from under the cover when his phone rang. He didn't answer it, so it rang again.
"You may as well answer it." He shook his head. "It is Esme, if it were emergent, it would be my aunt." She looked at him. "Right now, I am going to take care of that raging hangover that you have." He got up from his place on the recliner and headed toward the kitchenette. He returned shortly with a tray.
"Sparkling coconut water that is vitamin enhanced. The sparkle will help with your tummy woes. Some carbs that I tried to get in your system last night, but I got some fresh ones this morning. Coffee to help clear the grogginess but you need the carbs and water first. Ibuprofen for the headache. Take that with bread." He helped her sit up and get the food down.
"You are good at this." He chuckled.
"I have had a couple benders in my lifetime." His phone rang again.
"Just answer it, she won't stop." He rolled his eyes and then answered it.
"What is it, Esme?" He answered in frustration.
"Where are you? Why haven't I been able to reach you?" She asked frantically.
"Don't mistake my love for my brother and his well-being as you having a right to that information." She huffed on the other end of the line.
"If you are going to be in his life you can't just walk in and out of it when you want, Spencer, that is not how this works." He pinched the bridge of his nose.
"When did I walk out of his life only to randomly walk back into it? I saw him before I left." Spencer said agitated.
"You said that we were in this together which means that you should communicate these things with me." He sighed.
"Is Ace hurt? Is he sick?" She stumbled over her words.
"He has been running a temperature and he has been fussy." He rubbed his face.
"He's teething, Esme. We have already established that can happen while teething. Are you freezing his teething ring? Following the acetaminophen and ibuprofen regimen?" Spencer asked.
"That is not the point! The point is that you are not here, and you need to decide where Ace lies in your list of priorities." He snorted.
"Where does Ace lie in my list of priorities? He is one of my priorities, but he is not the only one. See, I am his brother and not his father. Do you expect him to come before my wife and children?" He asked and once again she sputtered.
"You aren't married." He chuckled.
"Not yet, but I have met her, and she is my priority. I do apologize for not telling you directly, but that is all that I have, Esme." As Trina listened to the conversation, she became acutely aware of the game that Esme was playing and how devastated Spencer would be when she played her final card, taking Ace away from him as a means of control.
"Is that all, I need to go." He hung up.
"I have an idea." Trina looked at Spencer. "You go home and we just—"
"You said that you wanted to know that you were chosen—" She frowned.
"Not out of obligation." Trina huffed as she crossed her arms.
"Trina, listen to me, there was never a choice. You are the only choice. I just thought…I took for granted that you were there, so I neglected your needs as well as my own by overcompensating for my own abandonment issues that I did not want Ace to suffer. You told me to earn you and I am trying to do that." She softened.
"But I also didn't consider Esme's manipulations, but you should. She is going to use Ace to get you to do what she wants." He nodded. He had come to that understanding shortly before leaving.
"If she does then I will use everything in my arsenal to stop it." She considered his words. The last thing she wanted was to play nicely with Esme, but maybe…
"Maybe we should bring Esme and Ace here. That way you won't—"
"Absolutely not. I don't even think that she would go for it but this time is our time." Trina looked down.
"Spencer, if this goes well then I will be spending the rest of the year here." He smiled at her.
"I know. This is why I have been looking for a flat here and a Chateau to escape to during breaks. Trina, I am all in. If you will have me, I'd like to share this experience with you and share my experiences with you." She stared at him, the sincerity in his eyes won her over but she wasn't ready to trust him.
"We shall see." He nodded.
"Fair enough." He smiled at her. He knew that it wouldn't be easy, but he was willing to put in the work.
Trina didn't know why she backed away from Andres, maybe it was because she was honest with herself and knew that he was interested in her. She didn't return his interest, so she felt it best not to lead him on. Spencer had kept his word. He did go back to Port Charles to visit Ace a couple of times. He had offered for her to fly back on the family jet with him, but she usually declined. She was only planning to go back for a couple of weeks during winter break.
She had let herself into his apartment. He had gone to Port Charles to take care of some loose ends with Cassadine Industries. Nikolas being missing had caused concern with board members and he would have to step in to assure them that Cassadine Industries would still run as planned. Trina knew that after a year, he would have to step in and claim his position as the head of CI; but that was hard for him because it forced him to face the fact that his father may never return and the reason that he may never return.
Spencer had taken her on a tour of France. They had gone to a lot of popular spots, historic spots. There was still so much more to see. Seeing France through his eyes…she sighed as she remembered their excursions. It made her fall for that side of him, fall even harder for him.
Trina was startled when she felt his arms wrap around her waist. "Well, this is a nice surprise. I don't think that you know what you are doing." She smiled as she leaned into him.
"What am I doing?" She asked.
"Painting a beautiful picture. Spoiling me because I could get used to this." She smiled. "What are you making?"
"Beef bourguignon." She said as she stirred the stew. "It is ready, so you have perfect timing. How did it go?" He laughed.
"The table is set, go have a seat, and let me get this in a serving dish—"
"No, I am going to help you." He helped her with the bread and the stew, together they sat at the table.
"My father decided that instead of his children being important, money was. So rather than allow me to be in control, he decided to show his face." He shrugged.
"Oh Spencer." He frowned.
"It isn't like I wasn't expecting it." He said nonchalantly but she could see through his façade.
"No, but it would have been nice if he had lived down to them. I know it hurts and that is ok. I am here if you need to talk." He shook his head.
"I need to eat this delicious meal you have prepared and just…be here with you. You don't know how badly I needed to see you." She smiled softly, her eyes meeting his.
"I missed you. I wanted to tell you a few weeks ago but…I was scared. I never…" She sighed, looking away. She was nervous. "I never truly stopped being yours. There was never anyone else. The attention was nice, but I only wanted you. I only ever want you. I love you, Spencer. So much that it consumes me. I love you beyond my own comprehension and sometimes it scares the shit out of me, but it is the truth." He was in front of her so fast that she hadn't seen him move. He pulled her into his arms.
"I know. Because I feel it. I have loved you for so long. I never thought that you could love me as much but if you could even a fraction, I would be happy. To know this, Trina it is a gift to me. Every moment with you is a gift to be treasured." She kissed him, the food soon forgotten as he carried her to the bedroom.
Spencer held Trina's hand as they walked along the Pont des Arts bridge. "It is a shame that we can't put our lock here, but I think I have something better. I have been thinking about this for some time." He turned her to face him as they stopped walking. "I didn't know if I should do it now or next year, but you know me, I am impatient and I can't keep it in." she chuckled in agreement. He got down on both knees.
"See, I thought about just presenting you with a promise ring as a promise of forever, but you know me, I am extra. Besides, what is the point when you know…you know." Trina fought tears.
"Trina Robinson, I love you, more than anything in this world. More than gingersnaps." She laughed. "I want to spend the rest of my life loving you, making you happy and just being with you. Will you marry me?" She put her hand to her mouth to cover her sob.
"Without a doubt, yes, absolutely." He grinned.
"Wow, an 'absolutely'. Talk about making me the happiest person in the universe." He placed the emerald cut diamond encrusted sapphire ring on her finger. She dropped down into his arms. They heard clapping.
"Wow, you managed to get her to say yes. You are lucky but I don't know how lucky Trina is."
"Shut up, Cam, I am trying to kiss my wife." Spencer smiled and then kissed Trina.
"Trina you can still back out." Trina waved him off.
"Shut up Cam." She said.
"Congratulations you two. As the maid of honor," Joss said.
"And as the best man." Cam added.
"We are going to celebrate but you are going to have to stop doing that." Spencer stood with Trina in his arms.
"Yeah, we are going to meet up with you. Text us the time and place." Trina dragged Spencer along.
"What she said." Cam shook his head.
"Can you believe those two?" Joss asked.
"Yeah, I can. Spencer loved her for a very long time. All that he wanted was love and acceptance and she gave him that. I am happy for them." Joss nodded in agreement. They had both found their home.
The End
