Best Friend's Mum
Chapter 3:
It was a week after her conversation with Minerva where she had asked to be adopted, and they were now walking through the Ministry to sort out the paper work and her name change. Minerva had asked about her changing her last name that night but over the week asked if she wished to change any other part of her name, which she denied wanting to keep her middle name out of respect for the woman who birth and raised her.
As they walked out of the lift and into the welfare of children section of the building, Minerva walked up to the counter and asked for the head of the department as they were friends from school and it would make the process smoother. Not long after she was guided into an office and sat down, Minerva taking the seat next to her.
The meeting only took half an hour at most, and now walking out of the Ministry was mother and daughter, having to also go through the process of blood adoption Hermione was now in everyway the McGonagall she believed she should've been born as. After the Ministry the pair decided to visit Diagon Alley to visit both Gringotts and Flourish and Blotts.
Once everything was sorted they went back to Hogwarts and settled into their regular routines. They had both missed out on lunch and each decided to just wait until dinner, but snacked on ginger newts and tea.
Hermione spent her afternoon trying to figure out the best way to tell her friends that she was now Hermione Jean McGonagall, biological daughter of their head of house and that she was a lesbian. She had spoken to her mother about it and knew it was best to share this sort of news in person and in private.
She had owled Molly and asked if it would be alright for her and Minerva to come over the following day to talk to the boys and Ginny, she would feel better having the support of both her mother and her potential partner when sharing her news.
As mother and daughter sat down for dinner Hermione paused for a moment before speaking. "Mama, I'm nervous about tomorrow." She admitted softly with a sigh pushing peas around her plate. "I'm sure Harry will be alright with you being my mum and that I like girls, it's Ginny and Ron I'm nervous about." She added.
Minerva offered a small smile and gently place her hand over Hermione's. "I was scared to come out as well." She admitted causing her to chuckle at the shocked look on her daughters features. "The first person I told was Albus, he was my head of house and mentor. He encouraged me to at least tell my best friend, I was terrified to wreak our friendship. When I told her at first she pulled away but after a while we were the best of friends again, still are."
Hermione listened and nodded feeling slightly soothed by her mother's story. She didn't know who the friend was but she had an idea. She had felt an odd connection with another member of staff, who happened to be close friends with her mother. "Would she have been my godmother if you had given birth to me?" She questioned softly not using the woman's name knowing her mother would know who she was talking about.
The older witch could only smile a little wider and nodded. "Poppy was my rock when we were kids, much like you are for Harry and Ron. I only ever saw her as a sister though." She paused for a moment before taking a sip of her drink. "I'm guessing you feel a similar way as you did about me being your mother?" She questioned curiously.
"I barely know her but I feel she has always been different with me whenever I am in the hospital wing. She was more harsh with everyone else, but with me I saw a gentle side of her." Hermione explained trying to find the right words. "From the moment I met you I thought you should've been my mother, but kept it to myself until the car accident. It was much the same with Madame Pomfrey, when I was in the wing during second year for the Polyjuice potion mishap. She felt like family." That was the only way she could explain it and smiled when she saw her mother smiling through tears at her words. She stood from the table and walked over to hug her mother. "I love you, mama." She whispered.
"I love you too, Kitten." Minerva whispered back as she held her daughter close.
