"Ok, I'll admit that was an impressive show. And that the legend of the elf on the shelf is a legit one. But what about you show ponies?" Bunny asked. "North does his route alone, he brags about it enough I know he's telling the truth."
"Your absolutely right Mr. Bunnymund sir!" A green-suited elf with a long oval-shaped head that looked out of proportion with his rail-thin body frame. "Mr Nicolus has done his route solo for many a year. Recently though the idea of some of his elves helping to speed things along by arriving at the homes 1st and getting things prepped so he only has to do a quick in and out has become popular."
"And if there's those who prepare the homes for present delivery then of course there's those who double check the lump of coal drops." A rather muscular elf with short brown-colored sideburns added.
"So here we are!" The rail-thin elf concluded with a pose of giddy presentation, arms spread wide and face the picture of joy.
Bunny looked them all over again. And that is when he spotted the beefy elf woman. She wore a Scottish or maybe Irish white shirt and green skirt outfit. Over her right shirt pocket was the name Carol embroidered in cursive 'writing'. She had long carrot-colored hair that was braided down on either side of her head and in her hand, held above her head, was a speaker that looked to be at least her size if not twice her size. Bunny stared a good long while till he realized what he was doing was totally impolite and quickly looked away.
Carol, however, just shrugged and tapped the sideburn elf on the shoulder. "Where do you want this Nole?" She asked in a pop star voice.
"Carol, great timing. Right over there on the wood stage will be perfect. Come on everyone time for our number!"
With cheers, the Prep and Landing and the Coal elves followed Nole and Bunny tagged along. Carol placed the speaker down with a grunt and turned the diles to get the 'squeaks' worked out before the performance. She tapped a microphone she took from her skirt pocket and once satisfied nodded at Nole.
"Jingle Bam! Let's do this!" Nole shouted.
(1) Carol pushed play and a shredding guitar blasted over the fairgrounds.
"Naughty, naughty children better start acting nice!" Carol sang. "Cause Santa Claus is watching and you know you did the crime. We're gonna turn you around one lump of coal at a time."
The Coal elves swung their axes or used them as dance props while the Prep and Landing elves took out grappling hooks, gingerbread men phones that created 3D holograms, and ornaments that exploded into clouds of sparkle glitter in complex moves of their own.
"Naughty, naughty children got nowhere to hide! Your stocking's full but you better look inside, 'cause all you got is coal and child you know why."
Carol tossed the mike to a male elf with a bit of a gut and short brown hair just barely visible under his green hat. "Well, good boys and girls get presents under the tree. They got to try real hard 'cause nothing comes for free."
He then tossed it to Nole who shouted "Thanks, Wayne!" Before singing. " And all you bad, bad kids making Mama lose her mind. I'm gonna turn you around one lump of coal at a time!"
Nole tossed the mike back to Carol who pointed at the rail-thin elf and winked cheekly. "One lump of coal is all it takes, one lump of coal is all it takes." She started dancing her way to the other elf who seemed frozen in place with uncertainty. When she reached him she blew him a kiss, causing him to faint. Wayne tried to hide his chuckle behind his hand but Bunny's ears easily picked up his murmured "Oh, Lanny"
"Naughty, naughty children try to act so tough. Your mommy and daddy really have had enough! But inside every lump of coal, is a diamond in the ruff! Oh, you naughty children!"
The guitar ended with a classic final hard strum and the group posed. Carol flexed her arm muscles, the Prep and Landing elves in positions like secret agents, and the Coal elves hefted their axes.
I highly recommend the Prep and Landing series! Including the short called "Operation Secret Santa"!
