"Thanks for coming with me to pick out a tree Nessa," Fiyero says as he wheels Nessa to the little tree farm not far from campus.

"No problem Fiyero. Decorating the tree is one of my most favorite things to do every year," she said.

The two entered a gate and the first thing they see are small short sized trees of all kinds but mostly evergreen. He inhales the smell of pine through his nose as he wheels Nessa past the small trees heading for the slightly taller trees on the other side of the farm.

Of course they are going to get a medium sized tree (Since a lot are too tall for Fiyero's private suite) and later get decorations for it.

"Out of all things you do for Lurlinemas?" He asks the younger Thropp.

"Yes! Father always buys a tree every year and have me decorate part of it while he finishes the rest. Well… One year he forgot to buy a tree and had to improvise."

She quickly changed the subject. "Do you put up the tree at your castle?"

Fiyero nodded. "Yup. In fact, I have ten trees but I never really decorated. My parents hired people to decorate for us. But it kind of takes away the joy of it which is why I wanted to do this."

"Are there other things you do every year?"

"To be honest, nothing much really," replies Fiyero. "Just opening presents and having a dinner. We would have a crown of Lamb roast with Vinkun spices and a rice dish that also has spices. But most years, my parents would go to banquets in the Emerald City leaving me in the care of my nanny."

Nessa of course felt bad but Fiyero shook the thought away and asks her, "What do you and your sister do for the holidays?"

"The same as always. Opening presents every Lurlinemas morning, having a wonderful dinner that consisted of turkey, ham, turnips, greens, sweet potatoes and stuffing. And I sing some carols while Fabala plays the piano."

Fiyero's eyebrows raised at the last part. Of course Elphaba never told him about that.

He couldn't help but ask out of curiosity. "She can play piano?"

"Yes. And she was really good at it too," Nessa says looking at the trees as they pass.

"How come she never told me?"

"Because she doesn't want anyone to know. Ever since coming to Shiz, she stopped playing music entirely. She thinks it's a waste of her time."

"Really?!" He stopped the wheelchair and stepped in front of Nessa so she can face him. "Music is the most wonderful thing in the world! It's like food for the hungry soul! It's like a special gift straight from the heart-"

"That's because you love music," she interrupts. "Is that something you like to do back at home in the Vinkus? Is it a custom?"

Fiyero was about to say something but stopped and his face fell looking away.

Nessa noticed and immediately apologizes, "Was it something I said Fiyero. If it is, I'm sorry-"

"No!" Fiyero stops her before answering calmly strolling back to behind Nessa, "It's ok. It's just… Music is something that I love to do but back at home… It's never always for anyone else."

He goes on to explain while pushing her wheelchair. "Very long ago around the time long before my father was born, my great grandfather who was a king and my grandfather was a prince. The way he ruled the Vinkus was like a prison from what I heard. Well… My family don't think so but when I learned the stories I realized that they're wrong. It really was. I don't know what was going through that king's head because his rules are ridiculous. I can list every one but I'm going to cut to the chase since that'll take hours. Long story short, he banned music."

The wheelchair bound girl look up to the prince with a surprised look on her face. "What? Why?"

"The only music they have is just for announcing the royal family and traditional drums they use for events, but he banned all other music entirely. No waltzes, no ballads, no nothing," he explains. "That law went on for about a hundred years and had convinced my grandfather and later my father to keep that law going. Now since I'm going to be king in a few years, my parents both want me to keep that law as it- they say 'keeps the peace.' But when I was five years old, my family took me to the Emerald City for a conference. Of course I was five and bored out of my mind. During one of their meetings, I escaped and wandered the streets until I came across something I have never heard before. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard and it makes me happy. There was a violin and a flute playing with the guitar strumming. I loved the sound that I was so drawn to it. It's like coming out of the dark and into the light. The pressure I always had from family and music felt like weights lifted off my shoulders. I couldn't help but dance along. When my parents found me, they immediately dragged me away telling me that music is pointless and a waste of time."

Nessa's eyebrows furrowed in puzzlement as he continues wheeling her to the medium sided trees that look about 5 to 6 feet tall.

"I don't know why, I've been asking for years but they would say the same thing. When I found out why I now knew what to do. When I become king, I will definitely change the law and bring music back even if it's the last thing I do."

He stops pushing and looks around. "Well we're here."

She looks at the trees and comments, "Some are way too skinny. There's no way all the decorations can fit on them."

"I agree. There's some thicker ones over there," he said looking to his right seeing some bigger trees though they're still the same height.

"Oh good."

He wheels her over while telling her, "There is only one thing I have wanted and still to this day. It was a guitar. Every birthday and Lurlinemas I had, I never got it. In fact, it was the only thing I ever wanted. My parents kept telling me that it's against the law and that I'm forbidden to get one."

The brunette girl frowned. "Now that wasn't fair."

"No, of course it wasn't," he said now getting angry. "It was ridiculous."

Nessa looks at the trees and changes the subject again, "I think a little more taller and a little skinnier."

"Not too tall though. My suite isn't that big height-wise," the prince warns as he wheels her away from the thick trees and going down the middle.

Nessa's eyes search for a tree until they landed on one a couple feet away. It was a little taller but not too tall compared to the other ones.

"I like this one," she said pointing to it.

Fiyero wheels Nessa over so the two can get a better look.

"Perfect height, perfect length, love the branches," the brunette examines before making a decision. "This is it!"

"Definitely the one," confirms Fiyero with a smile that they finally picked the perfect Lurlinemas tree.

While Nessa admires the tree, he turns around away from her, takes the folded piece of paper out of his coat pocket and opens up he piece of paper hoping that it's Elphaba.

Nessarose.

His face fell when he read the name in disappoint wishing it were Elphaba's name

He quickly folded it back up and unfolded it again to see if he was hallucinating but it was only the same name. His lips pursed in a frown realizing there's no way out of this one. Now he has to figure out what to get for Nessarose.

He took a breath putting the paper back in his pocket thinking of how to get his girlfriend's sister a gift.

Fiyero thought for a second before a very sneaky idea popped up in his head.

"Hey Nessa, I have a better idea," Fiyero spoke up turning back around and she looks up getting his attention.

"What is it?"

He was quiet for a moment before making a suggestion. "How about you pick out any decoration you want for the tree."

Her eyes lit up and gasps really surprised, "Really? You want me to do it?"

"Yeah! I mean first of all you love to decorate and to be honest, truly honest, I'm not really good at color schemes."

"But it's your tree!"

"Yes and you're helping me with it so I think it's fair for the both of us that you pick," he said with a small smile starting to plan in his head. He pulls a notepad out of his other coat pocket.

He flips pages until it reaches to a blank page and pulls a pencil out of the binding and begins to write as if he's interviewing Nessa.

"What kind of ornaments do you like?"

"What are you doing?" Asked Nessa looking confused and suspicious.

Fiyero answers, "I'm writing what you like on the tree so I can get the decorations for you."

"You know I'm coming with you to get decorations right?"

He gulped trying to come up with an excuse. "Well… Actually… It's better writing a shopping list that way so we can keep track?"

"Oh… Alright," she said looking somewhat reluctant but gave in.

He asks the question again, "Now what kind of ornaments do you like? Smooth, shiny, sparkly?"

"I love them all but the shiny stands out more. I love sparkly ones too as they make the tree glisten beautifully in the light."

"And which color do you prefer?"

"Red. I always love bright red, apple red, ruby red. Red is my favorite color."

He continues on writing down, "White or color lights?"

"Obviously white."

"As for the garland, do you like silver or gold? I always had silver on mine but I've seen some put gold."

"Gold. It has to be gold. Silver is nice but gold makes it look much more festive."

Satisfied at her answers, he writes it down.

"Alright, final question, do you like chains, ribbons or tulle?"

"Oh that's a tough one," Nessa says thinking. "I like gold chains but tulle is a better choice."

Fiyero nodded writing everything down.

"Alright, I think that is it," he said before realizing there's one more thing. "Oh! And tree skirt?"

"I'm leaving that one up to you," Nessa answers smiling. "Back at home, we use the green one with red heart patterns because I love heart shapes, but this is your tree so you decide."

He smiled at the thought while writing it down. Now he know what to get for Nessa.

"I think this is it. Nessa thank you! Now I know what to buy- I mean I know what we're gonna put on the tree," he says stammering a little hoping Nessa wouldn't catch on to what he said.

Lucky for him she didn't.

"You are welcome Fiyero," replies Nessa with a big smile on her face as he slips the notepad back in his pocket and picks up the tree.

"Alright, I'm gonna go pay for the tree and then we'll go decoration shopping. Sound good?"

"Yes." She looks up seeing snowflakes fall. "Oh, better hurry, it's starting to snow."

The prince takes the tree over to the owner to pay for it while Nessa wheels over to the exit to wait for him.
