~March, 2005~
"Honey be please careful", Sarah Jane warned, seeing her daughter walk past the living room doorway, laden down with boxes.
"Oh, I'm fine", Raelyn assured her, waving off her concern. Not literally though since her hands were full. Her ginger haired girlfriend shook her head fondly at her.
"Baby, I love you but you're not supergirl", Valerie remarked, taking the top box from the stack "no need to overload yourself".
"Bet you'd prefer it if I were supergirl", the soon-to-be 18 year old mumbled setting down her boxes, the ginger doing the same.
"Now stop it", Valerie said firmly, placing her hands on the brunette's waist "supergirl had nothing on you, my clever starlight".
"My valiant moon", Raelyn softly countered and then kissed her. Before they could get into it, the brunette stiffened.
"A feeling?" Valerie states, pulling away. The 18 year old nods, a regretful look on her face. "Go. We'll carry on with these boxes", the ginger said, earning her another kiss.
"I won't be long", the brunette promised, stealing another peck from her girlfriend's lips and then reluctantly left them to it. "I'm so gonna kill Mels", she groused as she marched down the path toward her little car. Only she could do something that would trigger her psychic episodes or as she preferred to call them 'feelings'. It was apt because it would literally be like she would get a literal feeling that something was about to happen/has happened. More often than not it averted one mess or another. Except for when it came to Mels…not even her so called gift could prevent the kinds of shenanigans that girl gets up to.
"A bus? Really?" Raelyn asked as she and Mels left the police station.
The black teenager shrugged "I got bored", she stated.
"You said that when you stole the houseplant and garden gnome", the 18 year old reminded her "you seriously need to get a better hobby".
"But stealing is fun!" Mels exclaimed causing her friend to clap a hand over her mouth.
"She was joking, she didn't mean that!" Raelyn called to a couple of police officers who'd passed them by. She removed her hand "one of these days I'm not gonna be around to bail you out".
"Ah, that's ok Rae. You know I can take care of myself", the troublemaker assured her.
"Yeah, I know you can…into a jail cell", the brunette lightly shot back. Her friend laughed and slung an arm over her shoulders.
"You've got to stop worrying so much. You'll get grey hairs", Mels remarked.
"One of my best friends is a major thrill seeker/ kleptomaniac so I can't help but worry", Raelyn countered.
"Well, you don't have to worry about me for a while", the black teenager said, moving her arm off of her shoulders "focus on moving into your new house".
Raelyn frowned as her friend started to walk away "how did you know I was moving house?" she called after her.
"Packing tape on your shirt!" Mels called back. The brunette glanced down to see a small piece of brown parcel tape stuck to the bottom of her red shirt. Raelyn chuckled as she picked it off. She then headed back to her car and drove off.
A few days later saw a newly turned 19 year old wandering around Henricks, tidying up after a few…messy customers. It wasn't the ideal job but it got her out of the house and a little bit of money in her bank. "Finally", she mumbled when it was time for her to leave. She started after the other shop assistants when one of them stopped her.
Raelyn internally groaned when she saw that it was none other than Rose Tyler. The blonde literally made it her job to make her miserable whenever they were on the same shift. She epically failed at it since it didn't have the desired effect. Instead of being upset by her bullying, Raelyn either ignored it or gave as good as she got in defence. The violet eyed teen never liked bullies. Not at school and certainly not at her work place.
"Take Wilson his lottery money", Rose ordered, shoving a plastic wallet at her. Raelyn just tossed it back.
"You take it", the brunette said firmly and the blonde scowled at her.
"I said for YOU to take it", the annoyed flower snapped.
"Why don't the two of you take it?" the security guard suggested before Raelyn could argue.
"Fine", Rose gritted out and marched toward the lift. The brunette sighed and reluctantly trailed after her. This was one of those times she wished Mels was around. She'd probably be able to stop her from killing Rose this time. Either that or she'd help hide the body. Raelyn barely supressed a smirk. Her friend really was rubbing off on her.
The two of them rode the lift down to the basement in complete silence. Neither of them wanted the other to be there so it wasn't much point to even try and have a civilised conversation. As soon as the doors dinged open, Rose hurried out of the metal box, calling for the man but didn't get a response. The pair stopped by a door marked with Wilson's name where the blonde knocked on it. "Wilson? Its Rose!" she called. Again no response.
Suddenly they heard a scream. Raelyn didn't waste any time racing toward the sound. After a moment of hesitation, Rose chased after her. As much as she wasn't keen to spend any more time with the brunette, she didn't feel right leaving in case the source of the scream happened to be Wilson.
The violet eyed teen stopped short, seeing a pair of overall clad legs behind some boxes. "Please be a mannequin", she prayed as she slowly inched forward. Raelyn's heart plummeted when she saw that it wasn't a dummy but a person. "Oh…Wilson", she breathed.
"We need to get out of here", Rose stated "right now".
"As much as I hate to agree with you-" the brunette broke off when there was loud bang behind them, making them jump out of their skin. The two of them spun around to see that the door they come through was closed!
Rose ran over to it and tried the handle. It was locked! "Now what do we do?" she asked.
"We look for another way out", Raelyn stated as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. She took a couple of steps forward pausing when she heard a noise. "Hello?" she called, noticing Rose slowly shuffle over to her out of the corner of her eye. The brunette didn't get any response to her call, no big surprise there. But what she did get was one of the shop dummies stepping out of an alcove. What the hell? she thought as a second one joined the first, both slowly ambling toward the two of them.
"What's going on?" Rose asked, allowing Raelyn to grab her by the sleeve and pull her over to the wall.
"I don't know but if this is a joke, it's not funny", the brunette answered, skirting along the wall to get them both around the two dummies. Raelyn yanked her over to a side door and tried the handle. That one was locked too!
"There's more of them!" Rose cried, causing the brunette to wheel around. Seeing that she was right and that the group of 'living' shop dummies had grown, the teen desperately looked around for another way out. Her violet eyes brightened as she spotted a fire door across the room.
"There's another door!" she pointed to it "come on!"
Raelyn ran for it, easily clearing a box that she'd jumped over. There was a thud and a yelp making her spin around. She groaned seeing Rose sprawled on the floor. The blonde had tried to do the same thing but unfortunately she tripped. The violet eyed teen glanced at the fire door, seriously considering leaving her behind. She sighed, shoulders slumping. Whatever differences they had, she couldn't leave Rose. Her mother raised her better than that. "Hope I'm not gonna regret this", she grumbled before darting over to the blonde, grabbing her by the arm and hauling her to her feet.
Given the time it took for her to 'rescue' Rose, the shop dummies had gotten dangerously close to them. The pair back up until they hit a wall. One of the dummies raises it's plastic limb and Rose pressed her face into Raelyn's arm bracing herself for the blow. The brunette closed her eyes and tensed up. Her eyes snapped open when a hand wrapped around hers. She glanced over to see the owner of the hand was a man donned in a leather jacket and sporting a short haircut. "Run!" he ordered before pulling her away from the shop dummies.
The pair raced down the corridor hand in hand, a terrified blonde hot on their heels. The three of them hurried into a lift where one of the shop dummies managed to stick its arm though the gap in the doors, preventing them from closing properly. The Doctor grabbed its arm and after a few tugs, he pulled it off. "Are you ok?" he asked turning to Raelyn, who was a bit shaken by what just happened.
"I…I…" the brunette stammered.
"Are you hurt?" the Time Lord questioned, moving closer to her. Normally he wouldn't be so concerned over someone's wellbeing but…there was something about her…he didn't know what…but something was making him care. Maybe it was the eyes? Rare for humans and unique to his former best friend. In fact, the longer he looked at them, surer he was that they were identical to Naiyah's eyes. Naiyah…he missed her so much! If only he'd been quicker! Maybe he could've saved her and then maybe he wouldn't be traveling alone…
Well, he wasn't alone per say, he still had a ghost from his past as it were. It still wasn't the same as having an actual person around, even if his 'ghost' stopped him from spiralling into insanity from loneliness. "I'm not ok!" Rose cried, breaking through his thoughts "I was almost killed! A-and you just pulled his arm off!"
"It's not like it was alive", the Doctor said, somewhat dismissively, tossing the arm at her. To be frank, he wasn't too bothered by the 'freak out' the blonde was currently having. He was more concerned with the pale brunette in front of him. "Are you hurt?" he repeated his questioned.
"N-no", Raelyn managed to say "all in one piece. I'm fine, really", she insisted when he continued to look at her with a worried expression. The 19 year old caved a second later though "actually…no I'm not", she admits "a man is dead…" she whispered "and shop dummies were chasing me…" Rose made a noise of protest "us", Raelyn corrected and ran a hand through her hair "it's so insane".
"It's gonna be ok", the Time Lord assured her with an amount of softness that surprised him. It was probably because her eyes reminded him of the one person that he cared about the most. "I'm going to stop it".
"How?" the brunette asked.
The Doctor opened his mouth to answer when the lift doors dinged open. He ushered her out and Rose out of the metal box before using his sonic on the controls, making them spark. "You don't need to worry about how", he said leading her to the fire exit "all you need to know is that I'm going to deal with it" he pulled the door open and nudged her out of it "just do me a favour and don't tell anyone about me otherwise you'll get them killed" and with that he pulled the door closed.
"This is the last time I-" Rose was cut off when the door opened again.
"I'm the Doctor, by the way", the Doctor said, introducing himself and the brunette's eyes widened. Seriously? What were the odds I meet two people with the same… Raelyn's thought trailed off as the other shoe dropped. It wasn't two people with the same 'name' but ONE very late Time Lord! Who went and regenerated of all things, based on his different appearance. The brunette couldn't wait to tell Amy that she had run into the Doctor after all these years…after she ripped into him for breaking his promise to them when they were children! "What's your name?"
"Raelyn", the 19 year old replied and waited to see if he remember her.
"I'm Rose", the blonde piped up, really irked that the Time Lord was acting like she wasn't even there.
"Nice to meet you, Raelyn", the Doctor said, cheerfully and Rose's scowl deepened "now you better run along home". He then yanked the door closed.
The violet eyed teen was astounded. The Doctor didn't even seem to recognise her! Could it be because its been so long? Not to be big headed or anything but she doubted there was many girls with the name Raelyn and even less that have her eyes. Violet wasn't exactly a normal eye colour.
"I'm never working on the same shift as YOU ever again!" Rose proclaimed, interrupting Raelyn's internal musings. The brunette watched her march off, still clutching the plastic arm.
"Hallelujah", Raelyn declared, throwing her hands to the sky. She stuck her hands in her pockets and crossed the road, carefully avoiding the cars. She barely reached the other side when Henricks exploded! "Oh my god!" she exclaimed. The brunette ran back across the road almost getting hit in the process. She pulled open the door and darted inside. "Hello! Doctor?" she called, trying to see through the smoke. The violet eyed teen covered her face with the sleeve of her jacket and pushed through it. This was probably the stupidest thing she'd ever done but she couldn't walk away knowing the Doctor was somewhere in the building. Despite the fact that he didn't seem to remember who she wasn't, she HAD to help him! "Doctor!" she shouted, coughing when she inhaled some smoke. She kept going despite her eyes watering, and continuous coughing.
Black dots appeared in her vision but still she soldiered on. "Val…I'm sorry", she whispered before collapsing to the ground…unconscious…
