Beep…beep…

Raelyn let out a soft groan.

Beep…beep…beep…

The brunette slowly opened her eyes. For a moment she thought she was in her bedroom, her alarm going off to tell her it was time to go to work. Then it struck her. Henricks…it burnt down! The teenager sat up with a gasp, tugging the wires from the machines she was connected to. "Easy there", a gentle voice said, placing a hand on her shoulder and guiding her to lay back down "you almost died".

"Not my finest moment", Raelyn admits to the platinum blonde "miss…?"

"Nightshade. Belladonna Nightshade", the young woman answered.

"You do realise that Belladonna is another name for Deadly Nightshade?" the 19 year old lightly remarked "so you've been named after the plant twice".

Belladonna chuckled "let's just say it's a running theme in my family", she adjusted the blankets over Raelyn.

"Your parents must really love you", the brunette joked.

This time Death's daughter snorted "Nah, my father loves me", she leant in close and stage whispered "don't tell anyone but I'm his favourite".

Raelyn chuckled "don't worry, my lips are sealed", she murmured.

Belladonna pulled back and nods "good. Now, how are you feeling?" she enquired, straightening up the blankets.

"I feel fine", the 19 year old answered "and I don't seem to have any…injuries…" Raelyn glanced at the unmarked skin on her arms and did a quick examination of the rest of her body. She couldn't feel any bandages beneath her hospital gown, nor did she have any dressings or burns on her face. In fact…she wasn't in any pain at all. "I ran into a burning building…I passed out from the smoke and yet I'm unscathed. That's…that's…impossible".

Belladonna smirked "Not impossible. Maybe just a little…improbable", she corrected.

"But…" Raelyn started.

"Listen, my protesting rae of sunshine, would you rather wake up in hospital with injuries or without?" the assassin cut in "my personal preference is the latter. What about you?"

The teenager hesitated for a moment. Would her preference really be to have woken up with third degree burns over her body? Maybe she should take the win and be thankful she was unharmed. "Mine too", she whispered.

"Then I'd stop protesting and take the win", the blonde lightly countered.

"Alright. Alright I will", Raelyn said, putting her hands up "hey, um…would you be able to get me a phone or something? I need to let my mother AND girlfriend know that I'm safe".

Meanwhile, in a cleaners cupboard, the TARDIS slowly materialised. The moment it was made solid, the door was pulled open and the Doctor stepped out. "Good luck Theta", Naiyah said, making him look back at her.

"Luck?" the Time Lord repeated "I won't need luck. She went into a burning building without hesitation…risked her own life to try to save mine…" he shot her a pointed look "sound familiar?"

The ghost shrugged "Not at all. Definitely doesn't sound like the sort of reckless thing I would've done", she replied 'innocently' and then started to smirk. The Doctor grinned and left his best friend to go talk to a rather brave and rather reckless girl. Oh…and she was a bit of a mystery too. A former companions daughter who somehow got a reaction from Naiyah's locket when he carried her out of the burning shop. There was also the matter of the now deceased recipient giving him a rather cryptic response when he asked about why the piece of jewellery glowed. All of that was enough to spark his curiosity. He so did love a good mystery!

"Doctor?" Raelyn asked, surprised to see him when he entered her hospital room.

"That's my cue to my leave", Belladonna remarked "but do shout if you need anything".

"Will do, Deadly Nightshade Squared", the brunette promised, earning a chuckle from the blonde "her name is Belladonna Nightshade", she added upon receiving a perplexed but inquisitive look from the Time Lord.

"Belladonna Nightshade", the Doctor murmured, mentally filing the name away for later.

"Yeah, she's rather nice nurse", Raelyn told him "Anyway, you seem to be in one piece. Glad you made it out of the shop alright".

"Guess I have you to thank for that", the Doctor states "though that was rather risky what you did".

"I know", Raelyn sighed "I just…when the shop exploded…I was worried about you", she admitted "can't very well you a chewing out for breaking your promise when I was a child".

The Time Lord frowned "Rae, I've never met you when you were a child, let alone made you a promise at the time".

"Never met…" the 19 year old's violet eyes widened "oh…wibbly wobbly".

The Doctor's frown deepened "I beg your pardon?"

Raelyn shrugged "don't ask, I have no clue where that came from", she admitted "but…if you have no knowledge of the promise or meeting me as a girl then it hasn't happened to you yet".

"Clever", the Time Lord proclaimed "just like your mother".

"Well, I certainly didn't get it from my father thank god", the brunette grumbled "he…walked out on us when I was a child. Apparently it was MY fault", she scoffed "as if I had any control over what my eye colour would be! Sorry, still a bit of a sore spot I'm afraid", she admits.

"Its fine", the Doctor assured her "I was um…going to ask if you wanted to travel with me for a bit?"

"I'd need to ask my mother first. Not too sure she would like it very much if I simply swanned off with the Time Lord that left a certain Sarah Jane Smith in Aberdeen, not Croydon", Raelyn gave him pointed look.

"Its next to Croydon, isn't it?" the Time Lord asked, 'innocently'.

Raelyn laughed "no it certainly isn't! Well, I suppose if your grasp of geography is that shoddy I probably should go with you. Make sure you don't end up in Timbuktu when you were aiming for London".

"So, is that a yes?" the Doctor enquired, not wanting to jump to conclusions.

"I will still need to talk to my mother first but if she's ok with it…then yeah, I'll come", the 19 year old answered.

"Great!" the Time Lord said happily "I've already spoken to your mother and she's agreed to it". It was definitely nice to reunite with Sarah Jane Smith again, though he did feel really guilty for just dumping her back on Earth without any explanation.

"Oh! I suppose if my mum says its alright then there's only one thing left to do, get myself discharged", Raelyn proclaimed.

"Already done", Belladonna declared poking her heard around the door.

"Really?" the 19 year old asked, surprised.

The blonde nodded "figured you'd want to get out of here sooner or later", she states, stepping fully into the room and placing a bag of Raelyn's belongings onto the bed "I've found you some spare clothes as yours was a bit…smoky", she continued, moving around to detach the 19 year old from the machines.

"Its much appreciated, thank you", Raelyn remarked.

"Now, why don't give the patient some privacy so she can get herself dressed?" Belladonna suggested. The Doctor nods and the pair left the room, the assassin pulled the door closed. "Alright Doctor, I'm going to be rather frank with you", the blonde said, dropping her warm, friendly demeanour "if you let that girl get so much a scratch on her, I'll kill you" she stepped closer to him "and I don't mean, trigger a regeneration. I mean DEAD. No changing faces. No coming back. NO second chances. Got it?"

The Doctor swallowed, suddenly feeling somewhat afraid of the blonde. "Yeah, got it", he mumbled.

The assassin smiled brightly "Fantastic!" she patted him on the arm "see you around then".

"Everything alright?" a fully dressed Raelyn asked, as she opened the door, noting the look of fear on the Time Lord's face.

"Everything's fine", the Doctor lied "why?"

"Well, you've got that look my first and only boyfriend before our first AND last date", the brunette replied "let me guess, Ms Nightshade gave you the protective loved one speech".

"She did", the Time Lord admits "is she a friend of the family or something?"

"Or something is right", Raelyn answered "I've never met her before today. It is possible that she's one of Mels' friends", she mused aloud "lord knows that klepto can be somewhat protective over me. It's not such a stretch to say that one of her friends would look out for me too".

The Time Lord hummed in agreement. "Now, best be off", he declared grabbing her hand and ran towards to cupboard that held the TARDIS.

"There she is", Raelyn breathed, taking in the blue box "the TARDIS" she reached out and touched the wood "still see she's got the same look".

"I like it so didn't see any point changing the appearance", the Doctor told her, pushing the door open "go on in". 19 year old stepped inside the ship and her mouth dropped open.

"Oh wow", she gaped. The Doctor watches as she circled the room taking everything in. He could tell by the look on her face that she was in complete awe of the place. She lightly touched the console, the lights brightening a fraction, not that the brunette noticed. The Doctor did though. He also heard the happy hum his ship emitted the second Raelyn stepped in. the TARDIS was clearly happy to see the human.

Interesting…he thought, mentally adding it to the growing mystery that was Raelyn Smith. "It's incredible!" she exclaimed "my mother once told me about the inside…but her description doesn't do it justice".

"If you like this, wait till you see the rest of it", the Time Lord told her.

"Can I see some more now?" Raelyn requested.

"I'll give you a tour later", the Doctor promised.

"Great!" the brunette proclaimed, smiling and taking another look around the room. The Time Lord had to grin at the way she was taking everything in. He loved it! Someone who was amazed by the TARDIS, not seeming to be overwhelmed by the fact that it was bigger on the inside…it was a refreshing change…in a way.

"Raelyn, what would you say to someone else joining us?" the Time Lord asked.

"I'd be fine with it", she answered "though...I'm not sure why you're asking. It's your ship, don't need to ask for my permission to bring anyone onboard".

"True", the Doctor agreed "but it's the right thing to do since...I've already asked them".

"Oh?" the Time Lord nods "did he or she agree?"

"She did", the Doctor confirmed "you know her actually. It's Rose Tyler". Raelyn stared at him at a loss for words.
