Naruto is not owned by me, he (or it(as a franchise)?) is owned by Kishimoto-sensei!
Chapter 2: The Bell Test
Naruto put away his clothes. Plopping down on his bed, he began to think. Was he ready? He had, by a stroke of luck, just barely graduated. Sure, that stroke of luck also included learning about his family, but it was a stroke of luck no less. He was not prepared. At least, so he thought. His taijutsu was dodgy at best, and his ninjutsu was a repertoire of 3. Not to mention that his genjutsu was non-existent. How could he make his family proud with just that?
Making his way to where he placed the scroll, he rolled it off across the floor. It had a load of history written across it, but no techniques in sight aside from 5 markings, each in the kanji for taijutsu, ninjutsu, genjutsu, fuinjutsu, and kenjutsu. He wasn't exactly sure how anything worked so he placed his hand on the seal for taijutsu. Nothing happened. Naruto, unsure of what he was meant to do, read through the history, hoping for some sort of an answer.
'The Uzumaki Clan, known for their prowess in the arts of sealing, is a clan of great power. Said to be one of the oldest known clans in the entire world, it is a sister clan to the Senju, that being it is a close ally and was during the Warring Clans Era. During this time, the Uzumaki Clan rose to be one of the foremost powers of the world, and remains to this day. Clan children are raised in an environment that will allow them to adapt to their needs, as well as one that will prepare them for the shinobi world ahead of them. Each and every Uzumaki is trained in the arts of the Shinobi, leaving no room for helpless civilians.
While the Uzumaki Clan is not known for special bloodlines, it does have its fair share of bloodlines spreading across the Clan. These bloodlines are not guaranteed to be in every Uzumaki, and it is even less likely for one person to have every one of them. The likely-hood of a half-blood Uzumaki lowers the percentage even more, as no half blood has ever unlocked all three bloodlines. These bloodlines are known as the Adamantine Sealing Chains, Mind's Eye of the Kagura, and the Heal Bite. The Adamantine Sealing Chains are a form of sealing jutsu that only those with the bloodlines can use. The Adamantine Sealing Chains are chakra chains that appear from within the user's body, and can seal away anything that it binds by means of sealing chakra, or, in more extreme cases, sealing away the soul. The more training that is done with the Adamantine Sealing Chains the more control the user has over them. They will be able to enlarge or shrink the chains to their will, as well as cast them from anywhere on their body. Mind's Eye of the Kagura is a form of sensing jutsu that allows the user to see into their mind, which causes them to see the world as a colorless area, however, it also allows them to sense chakra in extreme detail, in some ways even surpassing the Byakugan in range. It also allows the user to be able to feel the chakra of another just by looking at them. The Heal Bite is a much rarer bloodline within the Uzumaki Clan. It is unknown where it is derived from, but is useful nonetheless. The user is basically a walking medical kit, and if a comrade is in need of healing, all they would do is bite down softly on any part of the owner's body. The Heal Bite is able to mend all kinds of injuries, from scratches to broken bones, to punctured organs. It is not necessary to bite down hard, however, the harder the receiver bites down, the faster they are healed, which has led to an abuse of this bloodline, and caused bite scars from biting down hard in the past.'
Naruto sighed, 'I mean, that's great and all, but that doesn't really teach me how to open this seal,' he thought. As he was about to roll up the scroll, he cut himself on the paper, "Yowch!" said the startled redhead. He pulled his finger back fast, but not before a drop of blood landed on the taijutsu seal. In a puff of smoke, a second scroll appeared, this one being much smaller, pocket sized, even.
Naruto looked back, confused, "It's blood activated?" he questioned himself quietly.
Unrolling the scroll, it had a basic explanation of the taijutsu style of the Uzumaki style, with more complex instructions of the Kata underneath, pictures and captions explaining said Katas.
'Whirlwind Style:
The whirlwind style goes in tandem with the Uzumaki Clan's superior strength and stamina compared to other clans. It focuses on hard hits, coming from the hands and fists, and moving gracefully but rapidly around the enemy using the lower area of the body. Everything about the style is done in tandem, however. While the damage is done with the fists, the explosiveness for the thrown punches and blocks is because of the legs and feet. And as the legs provide the speed possible for the style to work, the upper body provides the balance necessary for the legs to move in the graceful way they do. If one thing is wrong, the entire style is wrong. It is necessary to have the perfect balance, yin yang.'
Naruto smiled cheekily, "Damn, this is so cool!" he exclaimed, "although it does look like It's going to be pretty tough to learn… BAH! Who am I kidding! I'm Naruto UZUMAKI! I'll get it down in no time.
Naruto continued to look through every scroll for the next hour, however none stuck to him like the taijutsu scroll did. He very much enjoyed the fuinjutsu scroll, but it was pretty complicated and gave him a headache.
'Jiji was right,' thought Naruto, 'He knew exactly which ones I would like!'
…
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEE- CRASH!
Naruto slammed his fist down on his alarm clock as hard as he could, because it had woken him up. He was tired, it was 8am and he didn't want to be up. Forcing himself out of bed, he stumbled his way to his bathroom. Bumping into the wall several times on the way, he knocked down several pots that had been glued back together before. As he made his way into the bathroom, he stripped out of his pajamas and turned on the cold shower water. A slight shiver to the water hitting his body was the only reaction that Naruto gave, as he had been used to the cold water for years now. He poured the shampoo over his head, and furiously scrubbed his hair until it had been washed out. He covered his body in his soap, and eager to get out, he rinsed himself once more and got out. Quickly drying himself, he made his way back to his room and grabbed his new clothes from the closet. Looking at it, he smiled, 'Yea, this was definitely a great decision,' he thought to himself. He quickly dressed but not before adding some last minute changes to his clothing. Instead of wearing a headband, he sowed his hitai-ate to his right sleeve and the white Uzumaki crest from his jumpsuit to the left. Making his way out of his apartment, he heeded Kakashi's warning to not eat or he would throw up. Unfortunately for the young redhead, he would come to regret this decision.
…
When Naruto arrived, his two other teammates were already there, with Sakura pestering Sasuke about going on a date, only souring Naruto's mood. Naruto yawned, which attracted the two's attention, however, Sasuke quickly became uninterested, only making Sakura think it was Naruto's fault he was no longer "talking" to her.
"Naruto! Look what you did! Now Sasuke-kun isn't talking with me anymore!" She roared.
Naruto flinched, "But, Sakura-chan, I didn't even do anything?!" he questioned, "All i did was yawn."
"Exactly!" Sakura said, standing up, "Nobody likes the sound of your voice so shut it!" She slapped Naruto across the face, and turned away snobbily before beginning to talk to Sasuke again.
However, Sasuke noticed Naruto's change in wardrobe and questioned, "Hey Tomato, what's with the clothes?" he asked.
Naruto shrugged, "Just thought I would change it up with becoming a shinobi and all, y'know. Gotta dress to impress," he said.
Sasuke nodded, in what Naruto believed to be a form of respect, before the Uchiha turned away once again.
Sakura, finally noticing the change in clothes, growled, "Naruto! Did you think you would impress me with your new outfit!?" she screamed. This caused a perplexed look from both boys.
Naruto just stood there and sighed, why did he put up with her again, oh ya! Because she was the love of his life.
…
It had been three hours. The three genin at this point were hot, angry, and hungry. With a poof of smoke, Kakashi appeared, the very same book in his hands that he had yesterday.
"YOU'RE LATE!" screamed Naruto and Sakura simultaneously.
Kakashi just eye-smiled, "Am I?"
Naruto had enough. Cocking his fist back, he ran at Kakashi, intending to teach the bastard a lesson. Suddenly, he found himself in a headlock, with his sensei's kunai at his throat.
"Now, now, Naruto, did I say you could start fighting me yet?" he asked cheerfully.
Naruto struggled in his grasp before he was pushed away by Kakashi, and stumbled to the ground in a heap.
"As I said yesterday, today is your true genin test," said Kakashi. He took out two bells, "You will attempt to take these two bells from me, and the person who doesn't have one by the end of an hour, will be sent back to the academy," he explained. Tying the bells to his waist, he threw up a rock. "You may begin," he said, as it thumped on the ground.
Sasuke and Sakura rushed to the trees and hid themselves. Kakashi, looking around, nodded, 'They can hide themselves well' he thought. His eyes turned to his lone student who hadn't moved.
"Now what about you, Naruto?" he asked.
Naruto stood there, a defiant look on his face with his arms crossed, "C'mon Kakashi-sensei. Me and you, right here, right now!" he said.
Kakashi sighed, "Very well, come at me with the intent to kill, or you won't even touch me."
Naruto smirked. He dashed at his sensei, and taking out a kunai, he held it in a reverse grip, and threw a punch at Kakashi. Kakashi only pivoted a bit, and Naruto stumbled past him. Growling, Naruto took another kunai and held it the same way in the opposite hand. Throwing his arms back, he let the two kunai loose and they flew through the air at the silver-haired jonin. Unfortunately, Kakashi simply swatted them like a couple of flies.
"HUH?!" screamed Naruto. He growled once more, before putting his hands in a cross formation, "Kage-Bunshin no Jutsu!" he screamed, and 10 identical copies of him appeared.
Kakashi, for his part, was surprised. No genin should be able to make Kage-Bunshins. Your average chunin could maybe make 2. And here his redheaded student was making 10 without a sign of being winded. He smirked, this might be fun.
The 11 Narutos rushed the jonin at the same time, pushing past each other, trying to get to him first. Kakashi easily evaded and kicked away all the offending genin, all while reading his book. One by one, all Naruto's were dispatched, only leaving the real redhead glaring at his sensei.
Huffing loudly, he said to his sensei, "That's it, I'm going all out on you on this attack!"
Kakashi gave him a bored look in return.
In the tree line, Sasuke stared at the battle. He had expected the idiot to be brash and fight, but he really hadn't expected him to last this long. For the past few minutes he had been thinking over the rules. Kakashi had two bells and had said that whoever had no bells by the end of the hour would be sent back to the academy, however, he had never heard of a team with only two genin. Obviously, his sensei was up to something. This would just make them want to compete with each other more, and it would cause infighting within this team. With that final thought, his eyes widened.
Naruto drew one more kunai and rushed at Kakashi.
"You know, you've already tried this once, what makes you think it'll work again?" asked Kakashi.
Naruto smirked, "Don't worry, it will."
Kakashi's eyes narrowed at that.
Naruto crossed his fingers, and with the familiar motion, a single Kage Bunshin appeared behind him. Jumping up, Naruto got into a squat formation mid-air, while his clone put it's back to the ground, ready to propel itself with its hands behind its head and its feet in the air. As the two Naruto's feet touched, the clone launched itself off the ground, throwing the original headfirst at Kakashi. Naruto, however, knew he would not reach the jonin. Throwing his kunai, Kakashi had prepared to dodge until the kunai turned into smoke. Through the smoke appeared one more Naruto. Kakashi, having lost his focus at this startling move, forgot to dodge. The second clone punched Kakashi in the chin, sending him stumbling back.
Naruto smirked, "Told you it would work."
Sasuke and Sakura sat in their hiding places stunned. Naruto's plan was brilliant. However one thing lingered in the two genin's minds, 'since when could you transform into solid objects?'
As Kakashi stumbled back, he popped into a cloud of smoke, replaced by a log. Naruto's smirk dropped and his eyes widened, 'Shit! Where?!' he questioned but it was too late. He heard the footsteps behind him and could only turn his head, his eyes widened. Kakashi was running at him, hands together with his pointer and middle finger extended. The next words were words that never again Naruto would want to hear from his sensei's mouth again.
"Konohagakure Secret Finger Jutsu: ONE THOUSAND YEARS OF DEATH!" exclaimed Kakashi as he gathered chakra into his fingers and rammed them up Naruto's ass.
Naruto went flying across the training field, skidding across the nearby lake and sunk.
Sasuke had an embarrassed look on his face, 'Leave it up to the idiot to lose like that. And how did he make solid clones?!' he thought.
Seeing Kakashi had stopped moving and continued with his reading, he made his move. Throwing shuriken, he guided them using ninja wire around her sensei. If he didn't go all out, they would never pass. He had to get to Naruto as well, but the silver-haired jounin was in his way. Holding the ninja wire with his teeth, he sped through hand signs. He leaned back, gathering hot air in her lungs, releasing it in a fireball of fury.
"Katon: Gokakyu no Jutsu!" he screamed as the torrent of flames flew down the ninja wire and engulfed Kakashi. However, Sasuke sensed something was wrong. He hadn't moved. Not since he had tied him up, had he ever moved. As the fire died down. She rushed over to the charred body of a scarecrow.
'Shit!' he thought. Hearing a cracking of the ground, he turned to see Kakashi, with his hand to the ground, and a splitting mound of earth in her wake. Using his speed to his advantage, he ran at the spikes and jumped off the first to protrude from the ground. Flipping mid air, he ran through hand signs and released several mini fireballs from his mouth.
"Katon: Housenka no Jutsu," he exclaimed, as the mini fireballs aimed for his sensei.
Just before the impact, his sensei blurred away, disappearing from his sight. He growled, 'Dammit, not again. Where is he?' He thought, "Left, right? Above me, behind me–" "Under." came a voice. Two hands cracked through the ground, grabbing him by the ankles. His eyes widened as he felt himself pulled into the earth below, only leaving his head exposed. His sensei appeared to him in a blur again, eye-smiling.
"You know," he started, "I found that Naruto did far better than you. He was able to come up with a plan and actually land a hit on me."
Sasuke growled, "Don't compare me to that dobe."
He only smiled harder in response, "whatever you say," he replied before giving him a two finger salute and shunshining away.
…
It had been 30 minutes. Kakashi had been waiting in the clearing for 30 minutes, and his new genin hadn't come out. He had already dealt with Sakura, but she was so pitiful the author didn't feel like writing about it. However, he wouldn't have to wait long.
Out of the bushes came 10 burning shuriken, each heading straight towards him with the help of ninja wire.
He sighed. When will they learn, it almost never works twice. However, his eyes widened when the shuriken transformed. They had been clones of Naruto. Naruto clones with fiery fists. Kakashi's eyes narrowed. Naruto didn't seem like the type to be able to use ninja wire. Kakashi had to dodge the first two clones, or he definitely would've ended up burned. He took out a kunai, and deflected several of the clones, popping as he slashed them. One finally took out a kunai, and rushed at him. Kakashi slashed upward, unhanding the clone, sending the kunai into the air. Before the clone dispersed he smirked, "NOW SASUKE!" he announced.
Sasukei sulked as she tried to move. He couldn't help it, he was stuck. He was being careless. He heard wet footsteps coming toward him and turned his head. She saw Naruto, his body drenched in lake water. Naruto saw Sasuke. He laughed. He fell to the ground and laughed. Sasuke's eyes were twitching.
"HEY DOBE! How about you come and help me out so we can pass this test!" he said.
Naruto stopped, "We? Sasuke Uchiha, brooding king of Konoha, wants to work together with someone," he said, still chuckling.
He growled, "Listen, usuratonkachi, the only way to pass is for us to work together. It's obvious. Kakashi tried to put us up against each other, and make us not work like a team when working like one is the point. I don't want to, but it's the only way to pass this stupid test. Understand?"
Naruto scrunched his face, "Ya, I guess that makes sense," he said. Pulling him up from the ground he turned to him, "What's the plan?" he asked.
…
Kakashi looked around, wondering where the kunoichi would come from. He heard a pop from above. His eyes widened. He couldn't move his feet. Looking down, he saw that he had been maneuvered into the ninja wire by Naruto's clones. As he looked up again he saw that Sasuke had replaced himself with the kunai and was going to fall and latch onto him. Quickly replacing it with a log, he sighed, 'Too close,' he thought.
As he found his students again, he saw that they were out of breath. Clapping, he eye-smiled, "So close," he said, "Maybe next time. Magen: Narakumi no Jutsu," he finished, placing them under a genjutsu. He cursed as Sasuke broke it. He didn't know what he expected, he was an Uchiha after all. However, he wanted to see how Naruto would handle it. Sasuke seemed to be trying to get his attention but it wasn't working.
Inside Naruto's head, he felt like he was dying. It felt like he was reliving his worst nightmare. And he was. He was tied to a stake, chains digging into his skin and burning him as they got heated by the fire below him. He couldn't see anything, he was blindfolded. He could only feel the pain of the fire and the beatings the villagers were giving him. He screamed. One person had gone across his left cheek, cutting three lines into it.
"There, doesn't that suit you, demon?" he asked. Naruto could hear the sneer on his face. He screamed again, the same happening on his right cheek. What did he do to deserve this?
He could hear the villagers chanting, "DEMON! DEMON! DEMON! DEMUTO! DEMUTO!"
"DOBE!" screamed Sasuke, as his eyes widened.
Sasuke was holding his shoulder, shaking him. Naruto saw Kakashi, a contemplative look on his face ahead. He saw red, "YOU! HOW COULD YOU SHOW ME THAT?!" he screamed in rage.
Kakashi started sweating. He had started to feel worried, only a few seconds after applying the genjutsu, knowing what had happened to his redheaded student when he was younger. Naruto sprung forward, he cocked his fist back, getting ready to pummel his teacher to the ground. He could feel his rage surrounding him. It made him stronger. He could feel it piling up in his fist, giving him the strength he wanted to beat Kakashi down. But then something happened, he lost control, and he blacked out. Kakashi's eyes narrowed, he didn't know how Naruto had unlocked this power, but he needed to shut him down.
BRRRIIIIIINNNNGGG!
The bell had rung. Everything happened so fast. Naruto punched at the jonin. Kakashi dodged and appeared behind the genin, and with a swift chop to his neck, he was out. Kakashi sighed.
…
Kakashi stood in front of his three genin. He had his arms crossed. Sasuke and Naruto glared at him, the redhead with far more anger, while Sakura stood tied to a post, exhausted.
He sighed, "You three… fail."
Immediately, they started yelling.
"What do you mean we fail?!" Sasuke demanded.
"You didn't get any bells," responded Kakashi.
"That wasn't the point," said Naruto, "Why have two bells when a team needs three genin? You tried to make us compete."
Kakashi nodded, "True, but even still, you failed to include Sakura into your plan."
Sasuke muttered. Kakashi raised his eyebrow, "What was that, Mr. Elite?" he asked.
Sasuke repeated, "That's only because she didn't want to team up."
"Correction," said Naruto, "You didn't want to team up with her, and she didn't want to team up with me, but she wanted to team up with you, and I was going to team up with both of you," he said.
Kakashi sweat dropped and sighed, "Very well, I will give you three one more chance. Sasuke, Naruto, you may eat lunch, however, you are not allowed to give it to Sakura, and if you do, I will have you three be banned from the shinobi system entirely," he said, before disappearing.
Naruto thrust his food towards Sakura, "Here, Sakura-chan take some, you'll need some."
Sakura's eyes widened, "But, Naruto, didn't you hear what Kakashi said?" she asked.
"He's right," said Sasuke, "Plus, he's probably gone for the moment. Eat," she said, holding out her chopsticks. Sakura gladly ate, however she only ate from Satsuki's, and while it left Sasuke with very miniscule amounts, Naruto had ended up giving him half of his.
As the redhead passed Sasuke his food, the skies darkened and Kakashi appeared in a flash of lightning, overwhelming the genin with killing intent (KI). The raven-haired Uchiha drew a kunai while Naruto started choking on his own saliva in fear.
"YOU THREE… pass!" said Kakashi happily, instantly switching moods.
"HUUUUUUHHHH?!"
FIN
