"Well to answer your question Kara summoned me."
"Doubtful."
"No. The truth. She got a message to me before you all thought putting her into mild status would somehow stall her sickness. Outlined some of her plans as well. She is a truly incredible…."
"Touch her in any way and I'm taking away that appendage." Lena promises "So this was your plan. Lie about Kara asking for your help then turn around and try to get her to marry you again in exchange for somehow curing her?"
Alex pauses confused at the asking until she hears the truly broken sigh it triggers.
"You know as well as I nothing on this Earth can help her now."
Hearing the words said out loud earns a real gut-punched hit to Alex's heart the pain of the reminded realization almost makes her miss the "Lucky for all that care for her, myself still included she's thought of a solution for that" before Lena was giving a screamed "Kara." Sending the unintentional eavesdropping Danvers sibling sprinting headlong into the room. Weapon drawn and tear-stained face twisted in tired rage.
"Yeah, she warned me none of you would like this idea," Mxy says with a slight smile when Alex's not-so-warning laser shots rippled from a quickly called-up forcefield as he finished typing in the last of the commands to reverse Kara's suspended status.
"T—Thank-" Kara attempted to say through chattering teeth and heavy coughing as she was gingerly helped into more of a sitting position within the slowly thawing status pod.
"Oh, don't thank me just yet, Princess." Mxy sighs sliding his arms under her much to both Kara and Lena's annoyance as he lifts the awakened hero from the pod.
"No, No, Kara. Kara wait, Kara."
But the pair had walked through the breached portal before Lena's pained call could finish being spoken.
"They're still in the building. Come on we'll have to take the long way." Kara hears Alex say before the rippling silvery pool closes behind them.
"Now for part two?" Mxy asks setting her back on her unstable feet.
"You sent that other message?" Kara asks her voice nearly inaudible as she staggers once again.
"As my Lady asked." Her companion nodded typing in the last line of the message as he spoke with even a slight bow in Kara's direction not that she caught the action as she attempted to keep her knees from buckling under her as they worked.
"Dammit, Kara. Please. Please don't do this." Of course, Alex would guess her intentions when after gathering her fading strength Kara dragged her tired body on jelly legs over to the controls she needed as another round of hard coughs threatened to send her to the floor in their intensity.
The blonde chuckles through the pain at her sister's pounded comment as she grips the edges of the counsel as hard as she can until the room stops spinning enough that she can do what she's come for. Mxy wisely kept his hands to himself now his part was finished.
"Kara, what the hell are you doing?" Lena yelps as the portal powers on.
"Vaz, Vaz cut the power to..."
"Mxy."
With a nod of understanding the metahuman man helpfully guides Kara's searching hand on the controls for the commlink her sister was trying to use to undermine her work.
She's sent the message in jumbled Kryptonian knowing its receiver is more than clever enough to understand it as Kara attempts to steady herself against the control console as the seconds flicker by.
"Kara."
If she had any more strength after finally collapsing in front of the humming portal she would have grimaced at the pain in her lover's voice. She hated ever hearing Lena in so much pain.
"I don't care dammit just find me something to break this Rao-forsaken door" Her sister snarls from behind her until a rippling in the glowing interworld portal catches the fading heroes' glazed attention.
"Interesting proposal you've..." but the newcomer's words trail away when she physically trips over the somehow still-alive body lying broken and wheezing pathetically 'on the doorstep' as it were. "Buzz away Magic Man." She growls as she kneels enough to press the back of her hand to the deathly pale forehead framed by a sloppy mess of unwashed blonde hair.
"Yeah bye." Mxy agreed snapping himself out into the hallway only for another seething Lena Luthor to slam her fist as hard as she could into his jaw when he landed knocking him unconscious for the time being and sprawling into a crumpled hep onto the hall floor at Lena's feet.
Weakened blue eyes crack open at her glowing green and what could be a smile cracks her lips.
"You came."
"Lay another finger on her and I swear I'll…."
She lifts her head to the threatening unbroken version of herself watching pathetically from the other side of the bared door.
"She asked me to come here." She tells this other one as the one who summoned her sways yet again in her struggle to stand unaided after clawing her way back to her feet.
"D…ha….time."
"I know." She says amused at how upsetting she found the idea of allowing this one to suffer. At least not without her help.
"Stay the hell away from my sister."
She finds herself chuckling at the attempted threat as she at least makes the woman -Kara- as comfortable as she was able on the room's meager furnishings.
"Lena…ple…."
"Sshhh."
Her hand finds Kara's cheeks, her thumb rubbing softly against the chilly skin.
"I'll give you the mercy I was denied." She promises the sickly Kryptonian. In truth, it shocked her the other woman had lingered this long given just how weakened she was compared to that single other time the two had crossed paths. "Close your eyes alright?" she whispers in suggestion her voice soft at the awe she feels when Kara nuzzles her cheek into her palm like some common cat drinking in affection. For the first time since she'd become her mother's scientific plaything, Lena felt the sting of honest tears burn her eyes when Kara's other searching hand found the covering buttons on her coat.
"Oh my God." Her own voice whispers when the gleaming of the activated kryptonite grows more notable by the not-so-wanted audience. the words laced with echoed pain before an odd kind of shared memory slams into both of them the longer Kara by her own doing remains bathed in the glowing green of the rock embedded in Lena's chest where her heart should be.
"Walking into a room and feeling like your skin is seared from your bones?" "Like nails are running through your blood."
Then new memories of herself and Alex rushing around a lab as Kara's sickly condition rapidly deteriorated the longer the already identified as some kind of 'Kryptonian flu' ripped more of her life away from her as the two tried everything they could to save the woman's life.
"What about some kind of synthetic Kryptonite you know like starve out the virus."
"But that also means making Kara go through prolonged exposure…."
"It would take too long to try the possible variations."
Her eyes fall back onto Kara's face hating the grateful smile the woman gives her before she fumbles to cover the deadly glow of kryptonite, she carries within her thanks to her mother's twisted whims in using Lena's broken body for her sick experiments.
Her hand now shaking as badly as Kara's had been reaches to rest over the still-beating heart of the blonde lying cradled in her lap. The rhythm was shallow and hard to detect if not for a few other enhancements her mother had thought to give her before she'd freed herself from the other woman's grip.
She doesn't react when the heavy door blocking out the rest of the world slides twisted and heavy across the floor.
"She's still alive." She attempts to calm "Now we just have to hope your idea of starving the sickness works." She mumbles letting her fingers slowly thread through the shallow-breathing blonde's hair.
"And you owe us a backstory while we wait." The one she somehow knew was called Alex decides her humming alien weapon still raised and trained on the bowed kryptonite heart carrying Luthor bowed over her half-dead sister.
"May I be allowed some tea at least before we go into it?" she asks on the shallow side of hope for the granting of such a small asking as her fingers continue their slow carding through Kara's hair.
"That can be arranged." Her own voice agrees.
