Kagome X Sesshomaru

I do not own an Inuyasha.

Chapter 1: Kagome Returns

(Kagome's POV)

It felt so amazing to finally be finished with high school and even get accepted into university. Everything changed after beating Naraku and the jewel being destroyed. I was forced back to my world and could never go back. I do not know what happened back in the feudal era or if Inuyasha even waited for me. I wanted to go back to him and be with him, but I did not know if I would ever be able to be with him. The well and the jewel had made it clear that I was to remain in my own time. After I graduated high school, I was so happy to be going to university and looking for an excellent job. I walked by the shrine that housed the well and looked in, how I longed to be back in the Feudal Era with Inuyasha. I looked down at the well and I could see the sky on the other side, I could go back. I stared at the well and my hair blew around my face.

"Kagome are you alright dear?" I heard my mother ask.

"Mom I can go back," I said, and she gave me the look that said that she understood and that she was okay with me going.

"I will miss you Mom, but that's where I belong," I said hugging her.

"You better not leave without saying goodbye." I heard my grandfather say and my brother was behind him.

"I will miss you guys too," I said giving them a tight hug.

"Be safe my dear and remember that we love you very much." My mother said.

"Here take these talismans they will protect you from any demons." My grandfather said.

I gave my family one last look before jumping down the well. When I got to the other side of the well the portal to my world closed and I was expecting to see Inuyasha waiting for me, but he was not there. I walked to Kaede's village hoping to see him figure out why he did not greet me at the well like normal, but I would find that the village would forever change my life, I just did not know it yet. The walk to the village seemed to take longer than it used to but that could be because did not have Inuyasha with me, he usually carried me on his back. I enjoyed the scenery around me as I walked to the village. I could not explain it, but I just had a bad feeling that something was going to happen. I do not understand why I was feeling this way, but I was. It has been three years since I saw Inuyasha, and I miss him.

I approached Kaede's hut glad that I was going to see so many faces that I had missed over the years, but I was not prepared for what I was going to see on the other side of the door. What awaited me was going to change everything and make me wish that I could go back home, even though I knew that it was too late. When I opened the door and my eyes landed on the one thing I did not want to see, I choked back a sob and fell to my knees. Kikyo was in the arms of Inuyasha holding his child who was at least two and they were kissing. He had chosen her while I was gone. I had believed I had nothing to worry about, but I was wrong. Somehow, she was alive and not made of clay, she was living flesh and gave birth to a child. Inuyasha looked at me and shock was written all over his face, it was clear that he was not expecting me to return.

"Kagome, when were you able to return?" he asked as if he had not just broken my heart.

"I only recently learned that I could travel back, but it was a one-way trip. I will reside here until my time is up." I spoke.

"I know that this is hard for you, but Kikyo was my original love and when she was granted a second chance at life, I realized that I needed to be with her. I understand if you never want to see me again, but please do not blame her. I chose this and chose to make her my mate. I am sorry." he said, once again ripping my heart to pieces.

"No, I understand," I said and left the hut.

I did not give him a chance to say anything more, I just took off running and ran straight into the last person I expected to see, Sesshomaru. He looked down at me and something flashed in his eyes that I could not read, not that I ever could. With a word, he lifted me off the ground and set me on his shoulder, which was shocking. He headed toward Kaede's hut, and I started to struggle, I did not want to see them together again. He entered the hut and I soon as he did the child bounded toward him and gave him a big hug, and he hugged the child back with me still on his shoulder. He gently sat me down and glared at his younger brother with intense hatred.

"I didn't know that she would return, so lay off!" Inuyasha said.

"Clearly or you have warned us so that we could prepare her for she would find in the village," Sesshomaru said, with a hint of anger.

"Her arrival was a shock to everyone. No one knew that Kagome was going to return, not even she knew." Inuyasha said.

"It doesn't matter, she shouldn't be here, my choice is clear. I want Kikyo." Inuyasha said with was like a stab in the heart.

"How could you say something like that after all that we have been?" I asked tears streaming down my face.

"You were gone, and Kikyo was given a second chance. She and I have been through far more together and it is clear that she is my soulmate." Inuyasha said, not even flinching at his words.

"How can you be so cold toward the woman who solely devoted her life to saving you and this world?" Sesshomaru coldly addressed his brother.

"She didn't have to do anything that she did, but yet she chose to. I have chosen Kikyo as my mate and that is final." Inuyasha said.

"Then you won't mind if I claim her as my mate?" Sesshomaru asked and it left a shocked expression on my face.

"Like you would claim a human as your mate?" Inuyasha said in a harsh voice.

"On the contrary, she is a priestess and as my mate, she will be eternal. I have known since day one that she was my mate. I only ever pretended indifferent to her because she pinned after you, but I am making my intentions known now." Sesshomaru said.

"Your intentions?" I asked, looking at him confused.

"Yes, Kagome. You are my mate and I wish to be with you, but the choice is up to you." Sesshomaru said.

"I don't know you well enough to want to be with, but I would like to get to know you," I replied, which shocked him.

"Then it would be my pleasure to invite you to my home, and you can stay there as long as you like Kagome." He spoke.

"Don't you think that maybe she should stay with the humans?" Inuyasha asked.

"I think that you need to butt out," I yelled at him.

"Kagome you need to think about this. If you were indeed his mate, then Kikyo would be as well." Inuyasha said trying to make a reason for his words.

" No, that is not true. After the jewel was destroyed it granted Kikyo a soul of her own making her a different person altogether. In other words, Kikyo and Kagome have their souls and they are their people. That is why Kikyo is your mate and Kagome is my mate. Does that dumb things down for you Inuyasha?" Sesshomaru asked.

"I don't even know why I am sitting here arguing with you. Kagome you can do whatever you want. You are no longer my responsibility." Inuyasha said in an indifferent tone.

"I need time to figure out what I am going to do," I said and ran out of the hut.

I had made my way back well and it was not until I sat down on the ground that I realized that I come back to this era knowing that I could not go back only to realize that the man I loved chose another and not only that his brother is my mate. There were tears in my eyes, I wanted to blame Sesshomaru for this, but I knew that it was not his fault. I am the silly girl who was clinging to the hope of being with Inuyasha and the belief that I would be with him. Inuyasha was the one to blame and the one that betrayed my trust. I wanted so badly to find relief in the pain that I felt but moving past what had happened was going to be hard. I was going to find a way to make things better for myself. I looked up to see Sesshomaru who had followed me and was now kneeling in front of me. He gently wiped away my tears and caressed my cheek.

"I will not force you to do anything that do not wish to do. I only ask that you move to my home and take the time to get to know me and the person that I am. I do not want you to see me as the person that you have met in the past. I was horrible just because clung to my fool of a brother." Sesshomaru said.

"This is all so new to me, and I am still trying to find my way without him. I will move to your home and get to know you, but please do not rush anything. Give me time to adjust and heal the heart that Inuyasha has broken." I said to him and looked him in the eyes.

"I will help you heal the heart that he broke in time if you are willing to let me," Sesshomaru said to me.

"Like I said I will need time to figure out myself and process my feelings. I was just betrayed today and things like that are hard to forget." I said looking at the man in front of me.

"That is all that I want. Having you near me will suffice until you are ready. We can travel on foot, or I will fly us there, the choice is yours alone." Sesshomaru said to me.

"I think that if we flew, we would get there sooner, but only if you are okay with carrying me!" I said looking at him warily, I was after all tired.

"After all that I have told you, you should understand one thing, I will never have a problem carrying you anywhere," he said with a smirk.

"Then I suppose that we should get going," I said looking directly at him.

He scooped me close to him without another word and flew into the air on his fur pelt. I was honestly shocked by how comfortable his fur was and how safe I felt in his arms. It was something that I had never felt with Inuyasha, with him I mostly felt fear of being in danger because he was so reckless., charging straight in with no plan in mind. We had been flying for serval hours before he landed near a campsite, and I saw Rin and Jakan waiting for Sesshomaru to return.

"I see that you have finally returned Lord Sesshomaru and may ask why Kagome is with you?" Rin asked.

"Yes, I have, and she will be staying with us from now on." He said to the young girl.

"Are we headed back to the estate Master Sesshomaru?" Jakan asked.

"Yes, but not till in the morning." He replied.

"Very well," Jakan said.

"The two of you can go on ahead if you would like, but I am going to stay behind and let Kagome rest for the night," Sesshomaru said.

"Very well I will take Rin and head on back to the Estate and have the maids prepare a room for Lady Kagome," Jakan said.

"Thank you, be sure to arrive safely." He said to them.

"Kagome you get some rest we will continue our journey in the morning." He said to me kindly.

He laid out his fur pelt for me to sleep on which provided more than enough comfort and was better than sleeping on the ground. I would catch Sesshomaru glance at me from time to time and he was just trying to make sure that I was okay and did not need anything. I watched as he sat down by a nearby tree and stared at the sky. I slowly let sleep take me and pondered what tomorrow would bring for me.
