The Atoll/Tarawa (Michael-1945)

"Corleone- get up! That pillbox is pinning us down. We need to take it now! Take Todd and Aguilar and storm it now!"

He obeys the captain. Todd is burnt by a captured flamethrower. He takes out the operator. Storms the machine gun nest. Aguilar covers.

Through the coral. Onto the trench. Three shots in the chest. Then another three again. Into the pill box. But wait a grenade. Motions to Aguilar. He tosses one. An explosion.

Into the breach. Firing. Aguilar as well. Aguilar is hit. Down.

He takes out the last Japanese soldier. An officer. Interesting. Maps, charts, intelligence. Looks like a command bunker.

Checks Aguilar's vitals. He is dead.

So, is this what it is to be a leader? To watch men, die. And he's only a lieutenant.

Probably has a Navy Cross coming for this though.

Then- shit a shell. A Bang and-

"Wake up Michael, are you ok? You were talking in your sleep. "

He rolls.

"No Kay it's fine. I'm o.k.".

Stupid the Japanese soldier with the flamethrower was. Gave away his position. Did he just give his away talking to Kay?

With Sollozzo and Tartaglia muscling in on his father's empire he can't be too careful.

"Kay, I'm going to splash some water in my face. Make sure that door's locked.".

She looks over at him.

"Of course, Michael.".

To the sink. A refreshing splash of water hits his face.

What a dream.

What a memory.
