Rear-view Town

Chapter Two

On the outside, Bella Swan appeared to be a normal, average girl. On the inside, though, she knew more about the Supernatural world than most would. She loved a vampire, once, and still does to an extent, but no one knew her true feelings. She was comfortable with the way things were and didn't have the balls to own up to how she really felt. Her 18th birthday was one that she wished she could forget.

Edward Cullen had been Bella's boyfriend for more than a year. When she learned he was a vampire, Edward felt as if the world had been lifted from his shoulders. She's the one he had been patiently waiting for his entire life. All he wanted was to spend the rest of his existence with her, but Bella knew that she would become old one day and wanted to be changed. Edward had refused her, explaining that she needed to experience her human life for as long as possible. That all changed when Jasper attempted to take her life the night of her birthday. He had smelled a tiny drop of her blood, and literally lost his mind over the scent. It was one of those moments that Alice wished her visions were always right.

Bella had no hard feelings towards Jasper and explained that to Carlisle as he stitched her up. She knew there was a possibility that something like that could happen, and accepted it, but Carlisle loved Bella as if she were his own child. He told her that Jaspers actions were completely unacceptable in his home. Needless to say, happened next, would turn Bella's world entirely upside down.

Edward had been scarce the day after Bella's birthday. She knew he had been dealing with Jasper, and didn't question it, so when she arrived home from school that day, she was happy to see him waiting for her. She could see turmoil across his face and wished that there was something she could do about it. She hated feeling like it was something she had caused. She always felt like she was to blame for any wrong doings around the Cullens because she was human.

When he led her into the forest behind her house, she was under the assumption that Edward wanted some private time with her, but it was more devastating. He had ended their relationship, choosing to leave Forks, and told her at no cost would she be going with them when they moved. He no longer wanted her in his life and felt that she was beginning to make it hard for his family to remain inconspicuous.

Of course, Bella felt like her life was over. Edward had been her world for more than a year. All it took was one tiny drop of her blood and the entire family decided to leave her with no questions asked. When Edward walked away from her, she was left in the middle of the forest with no recollection as to which way was home. Night had begun to fall as she searched for the love of her life amongst the trees. She knew he was gone but hoped that he could hear her as she cried and begged for him to return.

During her search, she had become so disoriented that she tripped over a fallen log only to curl into the fetal position and cried so hard that she could barely breathe. Her heart had been ripped out, and she began to feel as if she no longer had anything to live for. She had fallen sleep as she lay lost deep within the forest. Her dad looking for her was the farthest from her mind until she was stirred awake when she felt as if she were floating through the air.

Bella's eye's fell open long enough to see a dark-skinned man holding her in his arms before her father had taken her. He had wrapped his arms around her like she was the baby she once was before laying her on their couch. Charlie knew she had to be freezing as he pulled her wet shoes and socks off before taking her jacket off as well. She needed her other wet clothes off, but Charlie wasn't about to go that far on his own. He would have to wait for her to wake up before she could take a hot shower and change. His daughter had been shit on, and that made his blood boil. He wanted Edward to pay for what he had done to his only child.

Jacob Black knew he needed to be there for his best friend. Charlie had told him to give her a couple of days before he came over to console her, and that was exactly what he did. The moment he entered her room, she sat in a chair as she stared out the window at nothing. She was unmoving as he pulled her desk chair up next to her. "Bells." He looked at her ashen face and darkened eyes with no response. "Come on, Chicka."

Bella could hear someone talking to her, but it was very muffled. She knew it wasn't him; he was gone, and never coming back. It felt like the end to her world. "He's gone." Was the only thing she could say. It was the only thing going through her mind. "He left me."

"Bells." Jake kept trying to get her to look at him, but it was as if she were comatose. "You need to look at me."

"He's gone." Tears began to trickle from her eyes, again. As much as she has cried the last few days, one would think she was completely dehydrated. "He left me."

Jake tried to sit in front of her so she could focus her eyes on him, but she looked right through him. "Jake," Charlie said from the doorway. "We need to give her some more time. I've tried and it's like we're not even here."

Charlie was at a loss for words. He knew his daughter was hurting, but the circumstances of her broken heart was keeping her from school. He hoped she would come out of her stagnant demeanor before he had to intervene. He was afraid he would have to put her in the hospital.

Bella grieved for more than five days at home. She knew she needed to get back to school, but she wasn't sure she could endure the stares or questions about where the Cullens disappeared to. If she answered them honestly, she would actually be telling them the truth when she told them she didn't know. When she returned to school that following Monday, that was exactly what she did, and stayed to herself. Her one true friend, Angela, was the sincerest, and promised to be there for her when she was ready.

When Bella finally started coming around, she knew she needed to do something to keep herself busy. Jake was her answer and found something to occupy their time. She had purchased two broken four wheelers that they rebuilt together. They had become inseparable to the point that Jake knew he had feelings for her, and hoped she had feelings for him, but she was at a point in her life that a new relationship was something she definitely didn't need for a long time.

It was a night out at the movies that Bella felt a change within her best friend. Her friends Mike, Eric, and Jessica had joined them. It was then that Bella noticed that Mike's advances towards her had triggered something in Jake and sent him off flaming mad. He refused to talk to Bella for more than two weeks before she finally went to his house to confront him.

In the time she hadn't seen him, he had completely changed. His body had morphed into something taller and more muscular. His hair wasn't the long, dark trusses that she absolutely loved. He had cut them off and tattooed his right shoulder all the way down to his forearm. It was one large tattoo that she recognized as the Quileute tribal markings.

"Go home," Jake had told her. "I don't want you here." He knew what he needed to say to get her to leave. It was much the same as to what that leach had said to her to rip her heart out.

"Jake," Bella cried. "Why are you doing this? What did I do?" Her eyes had begun to puff up, and turn red. It was happening all over again with the heartache only this time from losing her best friend.

Jake looked down at the girl he loved. "We can't be friends anymore. Go home and don't come back or you're going to get hurt."

"You can't do this." Jake started walking off as rain began to fall. "Please, Jake." She followed him and noticed four other guys walk out of the tree line. "Jake, stop!"

He turned to look at her. "Bella, you need to leave." Jake wasn't sure what else he could say, but if she stayed any longer, she was bound to find out the exact reason why she needed to stay away. "Go home, Bella. Now."

"No," she told him. "Not until you give me answers. Why are you doing this?"

The four other guys had approached only for Bella to stop in her tracks. She had seen those men before and knew them as bad news. She needed to hold Jake back so they couldn't get closer to them, so she reached out and grabbed his arm. When he turned to face her, he had begun to breathe heavily. "Jake, you need to calm down," the tallest of the four men said. "Don't do this here."

One of the other men stepped up. "I don't think he has the balls to calm down."

"Embry, back down, now. Jake, turn back around and come with us." The tallest one seemed to be the one in charge. "Bella, leave."

Bella looked at him and tried to recollect where she had met him before, but she couldn't remember. Her memories were all fuzzy as if she were in a Deja Vu. "This is all your fault," Bella yelled at all of them. "You guys made him like this."

Before Bella knew what was happening, Embry stepped towards her before she was shoved to the ground as two giant wolves erupted out of Jake and Embry. She laid back and watched as they started fighting. They rolled around growling and biting each other. Then she was yanked up off the ground. "We told you to leave. You could have been killed."

Bella pulled her arm away. "You don't tell me what to do. I don't even know you."

The very large man took a big, deep breath and closed his eyes. "I'm Sam, and now you know what we are."

Bella was stunned, but not scared. She was good around the weird and supernatural. "You're all wolves?"

Sam nodded at her. "Let's go to the house and wait for them."

From then on, Bella's life seemed more at ease, especially since she found out that her best friend is a shape-shifting wolf. They were constantly at each other's house and making plans with each other. They had even ventured into doing dare-devil stuff like cliff jumping. That had been so exhilarating for Bella that she had to do it, again.

That day had been amazing, so after they all chowed down on tons of hot dogs and hamburgers, Jake drove Bella home in her truck. He had planned to patrol around the reservation after he told her goodnight. Except when they pulled up to her house, there was a familiar black car waiting when they arrived.

Bella knew right away that it was Carlisle's car, but she wondered why he was there. Jake tried his hardest to get her to go back to his house with him, but she was very adamant to find out why there was a Cullen at her house.

As soon as she entered, she was extremely surprised to find Alice waiting for her. She had been standing in the kitchen when Bella walked in. "Alice!" Bella ran to her and took her into her arms. "What are you doing here?"

"What do you mean, what am I doing here? Why are you still alive? I saw you jump off a cliff. Why would you do something like that?"

Bella stepped back from Alice and gave her a weird look. "I wasn't committing suicide if that's what you're thinking." Bella yanked her jacket off and stepped into the entryway to hang it up before going back into the kitchen. She wanted some hot chocolate before she showered and went to bed. She was pissed at Alice, and honestly just wanted her to leave. "I'd never do something like that."

Alice followed her into the living room and sat with her on the couch. She took Bella's hand before she spoke. "You scared us."

Bella gave her a sarcastic look and rolled her eyes. "Was that the first time you seen anything about me?"

"No," Alice admitted with a sad face. "He didn't want us interfering with your life in any way."

"Then why are you here?" Bella picked up her cup of hot chocolate and took a sip. She savored the chocolaty goodness and the warmth from the cup.

Alice scooted closer to Bella and took her hand again. "I saw you jump, Bella. I thought you were..."

Bella shook her head vigorously. "Dead?" She chuckled. "Not quite."

"I think I know how to protect my best friend better than you," Jacob said from the doorway. He wasn't sure he should go inside, but he heard what they were saying. He needed to let the leach know that he knew how to keep Bella safe.

Alice jumped up from the couch. "What the hell?" She looked at Bella. "Bella? You're hanging out with wolves?"

Bella shrugged her shoulders like it was no big deal. "So. You guys left and Jake was there to pick up the pieces."

Alice's phone rang and she pulled it from her pocket to look at the caller ID. "It's Rose."

That phone call led to a huge argument between Jake and Bella. Apparently, Rose had told Edward that Bella was dead and now he wanted to be dead, as well. That led to Bella getting on a plane with Alice and going to Italy to save Edward.

Jake was beyond pissed. He wanted to rip Edward to shreds the moment he saw him. He wished he would stay gone for everyone's sake because Bella was finally starting to get on with her life.

A heart that had been broken was healed with promises and apologies. Bella was so gullible that she couldn't see straight. Edward had groveled at her feet and pushed so many apologies onto her. He kept calling her naive about believing everything he said to her before he left. After explaining that none of it was true, he literally apologized and begged for forgiveness.

Unfortunately, all hell had broken lose when the vampires found out that there was a coven of newborns on their way to try and kill Bella. The wolves made sure to step in and by the end of it all, Jake was injured in his wolf form. Thankfully they trusted Carlisle enough to help Jacob heal correctly. Then he found out that Bella had said yes to Edward when he proposed to her. Jake knew she had to be pressured into saying yes. Apparently, the vampire rulers in Italy had insisted that Bella be turned into a blood sucker, or she would have to die because she knows too much about them. Reluctantly, Bella had agreed because she had wanted to be changed before the Cullen's left her. Edward had been her life, and she felt as if he could be her life all over again.

Jake couldn't handle her bullshit anymore and took off, in wolf form, the day he received Bella's wedding invitation in the mail. He didn't want anything to do with her decision. She wasn't listening to him, so Canada was where he was headed and planned to stay gone, but he knew he couldn't. He would be running from his problems, and he wasn't like that. He needed to grow up and accept the fact that Bella would never love him the way he wanted her to.

The closer Bella's wedding date came, the colder her feet became. The pressure she was feeling from Alice was palpable. She wasn't sure if it was Jasper pushing the feelings on her or not, but as soon as she was away from the Cullens, she felt a relief when she at home. The pressure leaves her shoulders, and she can breathe all on her own instead of Alice doing it for her.

She knew she loved Edward. There was no doubt about that, but there were some issues she battled with herself over every day. She wanted children. That was her main issue, and she loves Jacob. She kept imagining a future with him and the beautiful children she knew they could have together, but she wasn't in love with him and that hurt her more than she expected. Charlie had tried to tell her to learn to love what's good for you, and Jake was definitely good for her, but her heart rebelled.

She felt like she was stuck between a rock and a hard place, and there wasn't a soul she could talk to about it. Jake had taken off, and she didn't have a clue if he was ever coming back. She blamed herself for him leaving, and she hated that she couldn't call him. Her heart hurt because her best friend had left her.

Bella knew Alice's visions weren't set in stone, so she knew there was a chance that her decisions could easily be changed. Bella couldn't figure it out, but she felt a huge obligation to the Cullens because they saved her life back in Phoenix. She had no choice but to weigh her pros and cons, and she still wasn't sure that was a sure-fire way to make a decision. She definitely couldn't rely on Rock, Paper, Scissors to make up her mind.

It was two weeks before her wedding day, and all she needed was a few days away by herself. She didn't want anyone hovering or watching over her. She wanted to be by herself; plain and simple.

Charlie was the only person she talked to about her time away. He agreed wholeheartedly that she needed to have a clear mind. He wished she wasn't marrying Edward, after all. He knew his daughter was battling with herself over marriage. She never seemed happy anymore and followed her same routine one day at a time. Her smiles were few and far between as she put one foot in front of the other just to appease anyone she could.

Unfortunately, Alice would know where she was staying and begged her to keep it a secret. Alice promised she wouldn't interfere unless she felt there was danger. With the wolves patrolling constantly, Bella felt safe. She just wanted time alone, so how dangerous could that be?

Edward knew where she was going. He had heard it when Bella discussed it with Charlie where she'd be. Unbeknownst to Bella, he had been perched in a tree listening to everything going on in her house. He had insisted that someone be close by, but Carlisle had told Edward that Bella needed her privacy, and he should allow her time to do some soul searching. It ate Edward alive to even agree. He needed to know what Bella was doing and planned to watch her himself.

Alice saw in her mind what Edward was up to and told him that he shouldn't; that watching Bella would be the biggest mistake he ever made, but he didn't want to believe her. He had everything all planned out, and hoped Bella got the time she needed so they could go into their marriage with clear heads. His mind kept straying to situations he would rather not think about. If he could get sick to his stomach and vomit, he would. He just wanted Bella home and with him. That's where he needed her to be. She was the only one who could complete his goals.

Jasper watched as Alice paced the floor and pulled at her hair. She didn't know what to do. She was only seeing Bella's future to a certain point then it disappeared. The rest of her visions were flipping through her head like a reel movie rolling through her head. It was like a migraine for her. "We need to leave," she said. "I can't stop this." She pulled at her hair harder. "We can't stop this. Edward's going to lose his mind, and I don't know what to do."

"We'll figure something out. Our passports are already in the car." Jasper stood from their bed and pulled his wife into his arms. "We can go to Switzerland. That's where all our money is, anyway."

"We only need to tell Carlisle and he can tell Esme that we're leaving for a while. They can't know why." Alice didn't want to deal with Edwards childish behavior anymore. He had already pulled them away from Forks after Bella's birthday, and she wasn't about to let him dictate where and how to live anymore.

As soon as Alice and Jasper had spoken to Carlisle, Alice wrote a quick letter to Rosalie and Emmett. She knew that they would want to leave, as well. "Maybe we can all meet up somewhere in Brazil or Switzerland. Emmett loves Brazil."

Jasper chuckled. "Emmett loves any country that has huge bears."

After going on a long, last-minute hunt before they boarded a plane for 12 hours, Jasper paid for long term parking at the airport then headed to check in for their flight. The further they got away from Forks; the less obligation Alice felt towards the people she considered family.
