Anyway, it took a while, but there it is, the episode 4 of Yugioh GX, I did my best to plan most of part of this chapter. So I hope you enjoy it.

Have fun reading it.

The next morning, finally the time has come. Syrus prepared the best as he could. He even managed to talk with Salie and Doroth and make a special ordering he received on the day prior.

It was time for the Slifer trio to go to the trial by fire.

Syrus finished doing his matinal warm-up and had his entire body prepared for the day. So after taking the shower and getting back from the training. Syrus was caught by seeing Chumley nervously dressing himself, while Jaden was still sleeping.

"Jaden still didn't wake up?" Syrus narrowed his eyes as he glanced at Chumley who nodded his head.

"Yeah, but in my opinion I think he would be on his 100% if he slept a bit more," Chumley commented Syrus wasn't going to have any of it.

"That's why we slept way earlier yesterday," Syrus commented as he went nearby Jaden. "Jaden wake up."

Jaden who was so comfortable suddenly raised his fist to punch the blue-haired boy.

"You just activate my trap card." And Jaden gave a punch trying to reach Syrus.

"Oh yeah?" Syrus used his reflexes and then made an arm lock which woke up Jaden immediately. "HERE IS MY COUNTER-TRAP, ARM LOCK OF DOOM".

"AHHHHHHHHHH." Jaden woke up immediately as he felt pain in his arm. When he looked at his best friend holding his arm with the desire to break he started to sweat. "Syrus what's the big deal?"

Syrus looked at the slacker of the room and then decided to be sarcastic.

"Oh, nothing much, just trying to break someone's arm who tried to punch me. Now get up, we have 2 hours to prepare ourselves and go to the exam." Syrus took a towel and launched at the hurt duelist. "Go take a shower, Chumley prepared breakfast for us?"

"Really" Jaden asked as he saw the table with some little sandwiches for breakfast, which made him wake up excited. "Alright, this exam is going to be a breeze."

Chumley and Syrus looked at each other. That's a hope both have for the day. Every single one of them gave their all to study before the day finally arrived.

Leaving the dorm and walking towards the Academy with an hour of free time.

"Chumley you know how to cook," Jaden said as he felt full and ready for the challenge of the practical exam.

"Do you think so?" Chumley blushed, as he felt happy to be recognized for one of his skills.

"Well with everything set. I'm sure everything is going to be fine." Syrus said happily until suddenly the trio heard a car motor which seemed to try to make it work.

"Oh no, oh please not today." Then a recognizable voice was heard when Chumley, Jaden, and Syrus turned their heads to see an exasperated Dorothy trying to turn on her van.

"Oh crap baskets," Syrus commented as he even looked at his friends. "See why it's always good to go earlier?"

Jaden looked torn but he then noticed what Syrus meant.

"Do you mean..." Jaden wanted to help the card store owner and with the nod from Syrus, he was relieved.

"Yep, if we do this quickly we might get in time for the class," Syrus said as he took his jacket and tightened on his thigh.

"Are we going to do this?" Chumley felt depressed as he could see the duo already going in the direction of the van. "This is my life. Why do I have to make an effort in this?"

The silence was his only answer. He went to help Dorothy who just got out to push her van.

"Good morning Dorothy, needing a hand today?"Syrus smiled as he could see Dorothy was almost ready to do all the hard work by herself.

She looked startled at the trio who went to help her to push her car.

"Oh kids, thank you for helping me. Any help would be appreciated." Dorothy meant it since she never thought she would instantly get help in a time like this.

"No problem. We are here to help." Jaden smiled as he was on the left side of the van, Syrus was on the right, and Chumley was behind and the trio started to get ready. "On 3 guys... 1,2,3..."

And with the help of Dorothy, the group was able to move the van quicker than they expected. Taking almost 20 minutes and leaving a good margin of 40 minutes to go to class.

"Boys, words cannot express how much thankful I am. Today I needed to be here the quickest as possible." Dorothy smiled as the group was on the floor and sweating rivers, and taking deep breaths to recover their energy. "Would you boys like something to drink? The work must have made you all exhausted."

"An energy drink would be good," Syrus commented, but seing the face of Dorothy he knew that she didn't have it. "Or at least a cup of coffee extra strong."

"Water for me," Jaden said as he cleaned his sweat, and prepared himself to recover his breath.

"Anything, I'm dying here." Chumley who also helped felt a lot tired from doing his strength.

Dorothy smiled as she giggled from seeing the trio of boys being exhausted, and from her own experience she also felt tired as well. And a good coffee would be something she may need it.

"Alright boys, coffee and water coming right up. Let's go to the card store, and I will have Salie help me out." The owner of the card store smiled as the group of boys seemed to smile tiredly. "And thank you for your help. I won't forget this."

"That's fine," Jaden said as he smiled his natural smile, the fresh spirit who never worries about helping others. "It was the thing we are supposed to do, help the others, right guys?"

"Yep." Syrus agreed while Chumley nodded his head, while he was still feeling a bit out of breath.

Dorothy this time smiled more gently, as she knew these kids meant it when it came to helping her.

At the time they got upstairs and even went to the card store, it seemed to be all locked down, which made Jaden and Chumley look around strangely.

"Hmmm... Miss, don't the cart store should be opened at this moment?" Jaden asked as he could see the card store doors were closed even behind a protective iron covering the door glass.

"Oh, I think you guys didn't know. But there is something special to happen today... I cannot tell you what is it, but after the writing exam, please come here to talk to me, I will have a surprise for all of you... Also, Syrus." Dorothy commented which caught the attention of the blue-haired boy. "Your order just came yesterday. So I'm going to give you when you come here after the writing exam."

Syrus stopped and then glanced at Dorothy with his face smiling like a kid in a toy store.

"Really? THAT'S AWESOME. Thank you so much, Dorothy. I cannot tell how much you made my day." Syrus was excited, from hearing an order he had made for it took what would be 2 weeks, at the time he was preparing himself for the exam day. "It came at an important time."

"What? What is it Sy?" Jaden looked curious, seeing his friends all happy to see something but with a very good optimism in his hands.

"Staple cards," Syrus commented, which made both Jaden and Chumley look confused until they snapped their fingers.

"Right, the staple is the kind of card every duelist should have in their decks right?" Jaden asked since he remembered Syrus explaining from time to time, so he remembered him using that kind of slang.

"Yep. And it's not just for me... It's for all of us." Syrus smiled, as he remembered cards like that would create such a big deal in the duel. "Chumley had a few of them, but I think it would be fair if we also have this group of cards. So it took all my time dueling with Hiro. So I hope you guys don't waste them."

"Wait, that's why you spent 2 days in a row dueling with Hiro and defeating him without mercy?" Chumley recalled at the times Syrus wanted to have most of the dueling points, but using Hiro as such a test subject was even too much for the poor boy. He remembered him seeing that even if was optimistic, Syrus did a number on him, but nothing like 2 days of rest and avoiding dueling machine types of monsters wouldn't make him better.

"Yeah, well, he said he was willing to pay anything for the cards he managed to get from you. So I used his kindness and made him a better duelist... by crushing him down..." Syrus smiled which made both Jaden and Chumley gulped dry saliva. "Anyway, thank you for telling me that Dorothy."

Dorothy smiled, as she even had a few drops of sweat on her face. But then she shook her head and focused on the task of opening the doors.

A few minutes was enough for her to bring a tray with a cup of coffee and 2 glasses of water.

Jaden and Chumley drank it like it was what they needed to refresh themselves. Syrus took his time to drink his cup of coffee, which was good to give him have energy once again to deal with the entire day.

"Well, a coffee and a water is the least I could give you boys. But don't worry, I think you boys will have enough time to drink before the exams start." Dorothy commented as the trio did their best to finish their drinks quickly. And by looking at the clock, they still have 15 minutes to go back to the class. "Well, I think that's it. See you later boys."

"Thanks once again, Dorothy." Syrus, Jaden, and Chumley said as the group went back to their fit and decided to go faster to their class... Even for Chumley's dismay.

And by being alone, Dorothy chuckled, seeing the good boys finally leaving her store. Neither of them knew that the boosters she would receive today were the Ultra Rare boosters which would potentially help any single student who comes first in the store. But something inside of her, by instinct was calling her to maybe add some of the boosters and hide until the boys came to visit her.

She knew what she was going to do.

The classroom was set, and almost everyone was already in their seats, talking to them about the preparations they took into studying before class, and how much they were prepared for the test which was about to happen.

And in the third row on the right side, there was the trio of girls, Alexis, Jasmine, and Mindy who were gladly passing their time talking with a Slifer who was sitting behind them.

"So I almost got him, I managed to take 1500 of his life points," Hiro said proudly as the trio of Obelisk raised their eyebrows.

"Wow, on him using his level 3 deck? I mean, Syrus can be ruthless when he uses that kind of deck. And for you to be able to do that amount of damage? Well done Hiro." Jasmine said in surprise, as she had tried to duel with the blue-haired boy... and needles to say how much she hated to have lost in such a humiliating way.

"Yeah, Hiro you are improving," Alexis smiled as the insect-type duelist smiled sheepishly.

"Thanks, but well. At least it was what I could do. Syrus even got happy with the progress." Hiro smiled as he remembered the shocked face of the machine duelist, and when he finished the duel he said proudly what he said in most of his duels. "I said GG, and he even agreed with that."

"Oh I wish I could have watched that duel," Alexis said as she sighed, she then smirked at the Slifer boy who seemed to be stretching himself. "Do you think you can handle the written exam?"

"Pff, after dealing with the insane dueling puzzles from Syrus? And that stupid 10-question game? I think this test would be a nightmare if we have something like that category." Hiro commented, as he then saw the trio of boys finally appearing. "Oh, talking about the devil. HEY GUYS, OVER HERE."

Syrus, Chumley, and Jaden looked at the front row of Alexis, Jasmine, and Mindy was empty. Which was a great thing they did for them. Jaden smiled excitedly, as Syrus sighed in relief, and Chumley gulped nervously.

Walking and taking their time, they reached the seats, and it was a miracle because, in a few minutes, Professor Banner already got inside of the class.

At the time Syrus saw the papers being given to all the students, the blue-haired boy took from his pocket the pair of glasses he needed, differently from the first exam he did to get inside the academy, he wouldn't give the luxury to make the same mistake twice.

"Well, this is it, boys. Prepare yourselves, and I wish you both the best of luck." Syrus commented as he placed his reading glasses and stared at his friends. They nodded to him, and every single one of them wished good luck for themselves and decided to start to go for the written exam.

"Well, good morning students." Professor Banner grated every single one of them, as the students remained nervous about their places. "We will have a very interesting test today! There will be 2 parts on this exam, written and practical. On this morning you will be focusing on the written exam. The first part of the exam will be 10 questions of multiple choice. So be careful about which option is right. And the other 10 questions will be a dissertation, so be prepared to focus on trying your best to answer all of them."

Professor Banner explained the rules and the procedures for how every part of the written exam would be. Which made every single student, even Jaden gulp from having to deal with some of the difficult parts of the test.

"I wish you all good luck, and the written exam starts... now.!" With the declaration of Professor Banner, every single student took their papers and turned their pages to see the first part of the written exam.

"Alright... everything good *yawn* so far," Jaden commented as he felt himself exhausted from the run, and how much he missed a good nap. But seeing that it was the dissertation part of the exam, he shook his head and tried to focus. "Come on Jaden, keep together, you studied with your friends, even played puzzles with them for weeks, you can take it."

Problem 1: Win the Game in One Turn:

Every so often someone doesn't make a deck to win. No, they make a deck just to annoy their opponent so much that they will go away fuming and lose their next game. This deck is one of them. It plays every card to stop you from doing likewise. Your Life Points are a precious commodity here, and you have used half of it already to get a full hand of cards. Now you are stuck without monsters on the field and your opponent has a 2100 DEF Soul Tiger. How can you possibly win?

Field Opponent:

Spell and Trap zones: Toll (face-up) / Chain Energy (face-up)

Monster Zone: Soul Tiger (face-up DEF)

Your Field:

Spell and Trap Zone: Ultimate Offering (face-up)

Your Hand: Axe of Despair, Gemini Elf, Premature Burial, Witch of the Black Forest, Mystic Wok, Autonomous Action Unit

Your Life Points: 4000

Your Opponent's Life Points: 3800

Your Graveyard Contains the Following Cards: Sangan, Spear Dragon, Axe of Despair, Skilled Dark Magician

Your Opponent's Graveyard Contains the Following Cards: Dark Driceratops, Toll, Cat's Ear Tribe, Ultimate Obedient Fiend, Blue-Eyes White Dragon

Your Deck Contains the Following Cards: Gemini Elf, Jinzo, Disc Fighter, Sasuke Samauri, Airknight Parsath

You start during your Main Phase 1 having done nothing this turn.

"There it is... the first puzzle created by all the students to train?" Syrus commented as he glanced at every single friend. And from their look their faces. Every single person, including Jaden, started to glance at the question with one simple thought in their minds.

"How many life points do we have?" Chumley asked as he checked the question. "9 questions remaining."

"Which monsters are on the field?" Alexis asked and she checked which one of them was. "8 questions remaining."

"What is in our hands?" Jasmine asked. "7 questions remaining."

"Graveyard, what is in both our graveyards?" Mindy asked as she had in mind. "6 questions remaining."

"In our decks?" Hiro asked which then found another question to be answered. "5 questions remaining."

"Back-row." Syrus smiled as he checked the traps and spells on the field. "4 questions remaining."

"What is the effect of Mystic Wok again?" Jaden checked to see the details on the question and smiled by finding it. "3 questions remaining."

"So in the end the solution would be simple." Alexis found satisfaction as she started to write the whole answer. " Flip Summon Magician of Faith. Use her effect and target Last Will."

"Activate Last Will. Tribute Witch of the Black Forest to activate Enemy Controller's second effect to take control of your opponent's Berserk Gorilla." Jaden continued writing the solution...

"Use Witch of the Black Forest's effect, targeting Jinzo," Hiro commented as he thought a bit more, but then he snapped his fingers. "Oh yeah, use Last Will's effect, targeting Cannon Soldier."

"Tribute Magician of Faith to Tribute Summon Jinzo," Jasmine commented as she then continued writing the solution. "Pay 800 Life Points to activate Premature Burial to Special Summon and equip Spear Dragon (your LP now 1100)."

"Attack your opponent's Life Points directly with Berserk Gorilla, Jinzo, Spear Dragon, and Cannon Soldier to do 2000 + 2400 + 1900 + 1400 = 7700 damage (his LP now 3000)." Mindy made the calculations as she wrote it down, making sure it was right.

"Tribute all four monsters on your side of the field to activate Cannon Soldier's effect four times to do 4 * 500 = 2000 damage to your opponent (his LP is now 1000)." Chumley nodded as he could see how the dueling puzzle was almost in the end.

"And finally...Activate Tremendous Fire to do 1000 damage to your opponent and 500 damage to yourself." Syrus concluded as he then placed an ending. "That way he would be 0 LP, while you would have 600 LP, meaning, you won the duel."

1 question was done, while there were more 9 questions with almost the same hypothetical puzzle. The group who found it took a bit of time to finish the first question, still remembered that was easy. So they got confident that they would continue the rest of the exam, without a problem.

And little by little, every single answer was done.

And after that, Jaden stretched himself and placed his head to sleep. Satisfied with how much he did on the exam. And now the part where he can have the sleep of the victorious.

Crowler took time to see over the door and could see most of the students having a struggle between answering the questions, however, Jaden seemed to be sleeping and even snoring from tiredness.

"You can even dream you are going to pass the exam today Jaden, but at the time your practical exam starts, it will become a nightmare believe me. Hehehehehe." Crowler commented as he laughed quietly already planning a great strategy to take out the Slifer student from the school.

It didn't take more than a half hour for the written exam to finally be over, and the group of students who seemed to have mixed feelings already had their nervousness attacking them before the practical exam even started.

However, Professor Banner got up and smiled at all his students.

"Very well class, the written exam is over, please get up and go to the card store without running and form a line to receive the newest ultra rare cards of today." Professor Barner said which made many students have their eyes wide open and feel very excited. Until he got a message from the PDA. "Oh, they are already here? Oh boy."

And just like that the doors went wide open, and like a wave, many students went in the direction of the card store in panic.

It was every one by themselves.

While Jaden was still having a good nap, Syrus was drinking a water bottle, Chumley was feeling nervous from all the people running, and Alexis, Jasmine, Mindy, and Hiro went running towards the card store to see what would possibly be the newest cards.

Bastion walked near the trio who seemed to be fine, and decided to push Jaden until he woke up.

"Alright, I think it's time for you to wake up now," Bastion shouted which made the laziest of the group wake up in such alard.

"What? What? What happened?" Jaden asked as he tried to look left or right, but seeing that nobody else was there, made him look confused to his friends. "Where is everybody?"

"That's what I'm trying to tell you. The newest rare card boosters came today, and it's all on the card store nearby here." Bastion commented which made Jaden smile widely.

"Oh, so that was the reason why Miss Dorothy couldn't tell us why the card store was closed this morning." Jaden snapped his finger as he could see the reason why that happened.

"What?" The Ra student tilted his head confused, as Syrus just decided to get up.

"Well, it's a bit of a long story, but we helped the owner of the card store this morning before class. So we wondered why the store was closed and she said it was a secret..." Syrus said as he stretched himself, and Chumley nodded his head.

"Well, that many people will make sure that all the good cards would be run out quickly." Chumley as he could see that even the Obelisk girls went towards the card store, it seems that even their curiosity took the better of them.

"Well duh, everyone wants the best cards for themselves," Bastion said as Syrus raised his eyebrow.

"So I guess that you are not interested in having for yourself?" Syrus asked which made Bastion laugh.

"Not a chance. One wrong card and the equilibrium of my delicate deck would be ruined." Bastion said assured of himself, while Syrus rolled his eyes.

"Wow, such a confidence. Anyway, it was a good talk. Do you think the student wave is already over Jaden?" Syrus asked while Jaden looked ready to run.

"Not if we got there first." And with that Jaden went into full speed, while Chumley looked at Syrus in fear.

"We don't have to run again, are we?" Chumley asked in worry since he never liked to do exercises.

"Nah, probably all the students cleaned up the entire store. But let's walk until Jaden realizes he is alone in the empty card store, and waiting for us to talk with Dorothy." Syrus shrugged, and which by commenting walk, alleviated the stress from the chubby Slifer, who now felt relief to not have to run away again.

"Good, my legs started to kill me after pushing that van. Now, let's walk..." Chumley smiled as the duo left the Ra student alone, with his eyebrow raised.

"What a strange bunch of guys," Bastion commented as he then shrugged and prepared himself for the practical exam.

At the time Jaden already appeared at the card store, his surprise became awe as he couldn't believe that all the shelves were empty, from the boosters to even cards alone appearing on the glass shelves. The structural decks have been out of stock since 2 weeks ago. And it seems that Jaden realized one thing.

"Oh boy, does that mean all the cards went out?" Jaden realized loudly as he looked in fear... And on the next minute, Syrus and Chumley appeared in the card store, to see the complete space there was once full of cards.

Syrus whistled at how ghostly the area was...

"It was like watching a Black Friday Chaos," Syrus commented as he then glanced at Salie who was sweeping the floor. "Hey Salie, good afternoon."

"Oh, finally you three are here. I was wondering when you would come Syrus." Salie commented as she went in front to show some sandwiches. "There are still a few of them, you want to try your luck?"

"Ah, not today Salie, I'm looking for Miss Dorothy, is she around?" Syrus asked and at that moment someone who was carrying a few trays appeared.

"Oh, I'm right here, hello boys. You took a bit longer than I expected." Dorothy commented as she looked around and saw that nobody else was there. "Well, thank you so much for your help, I have a surprise for all the three of you."

Chumley, Jaden, and Syrus raised their eyes wide open until Dorothy started giggling, and then revealing in the top of the balcony... 3 ultra-rare boosters.

"WOAH." The trio commented as they glanced at the time they had in their hands.

"This is a thank you gift for you three helping me with the van today. Also, Syrus, here it is." Dorothy didn't finish as she brought above her balcony... a mullet and by opening 15 cards on it. "You expended much for these cards, 120.000 dueling points isn't something to be taken lightly, but from what I searched, it was indeed very expensive cards. But from seeing the look on your face, every single one of them counted."

"YOU HAVE NO IDEA." Syrus smiled as he took from the mullet and by taking out the cards, he seemed very satisfied with what he bought. "Alright Chumley, Jaden, these 4 cards are something I'm so proud to buy for each one of us. So please take a look at these cards. They are one of the strongest staples that I got so much experience fighting against."

"WOAHHH, Wait... oh MANNNNN, THAT'S WHAT? WAIT, DAMNNNNN." Jaden and Chumley looked at every single one of the cards, and their eyes went in total shock to never see those cards before. But after reading these, they couldn't help but freak out.

"IS THAT EVEN ALLOWED?" Chumley shouted as he took a card in his hands.

"Oh yeah, now, guys, you can have one of each, of these 4 cards." Syrus smiled as he could see how Jaden and Chumley looked on those cards like they were traps and spells of mass destruction. "Jaden, Chumley, may I present you... Fiendish Chain, Wall of Disruption, Drowning Mirror Force and Forbidden Lance."

Both boys trembled at how these cards were in such a powerful level of effect. It was like they were holding pro trap cards. Which was something Syrus may have guessed on why they are so much afraid of.

"Now Jaden, there is this gift I want to give to you... You need handtraps... So I think I know someone who would make a good part of the theme of your deck..." Syrus said as he took a glance at the mullet, and he smiled proudly. "The OG of the old handtraps... a card whose deck became a meme, but until this day his archetype has been a rescue to all of our Life Points... the one who belongs to your Ace... and what seems, to be the handtrap used by the King of Games himself."

Jaden got his eyes wide open as he could see something nearby Syrus... a furball spirit who seemed to be getting up from the card... without wings, but a familiar and yet very friendly spirit.

"Jaden, one of the first handtraps... Kuriboh. The original." Syrus proudly said as he couldn't see the spirit nearby him, but Jaden was so shocked and touched by his best friend to give such a card to him. "My friends once told me this card saved the duels of the King of Games Yugi Mutto many times, so I think you who use Winged Kuriboh, also should use not just this handtrap, but also have another Winged Kuriboh to help you towards many difficulties."

Jaden glanced Syrus who gave two him 2 Kuriboh, and 1 Winged Kuriboh... And Jaden couldn't be even happier, he hugged his friend.

"Thanks, Sy, that's the best cards I would ever ask." Jaden smiled as he could see that his best friend with wings appeared near the spirit of the furball and like family, both went near together like family and said a chanting in unison like they were playing. "These are going to be a great power in my deck."

"You have no idea, Jay." Syrus said proudly. He could glance at Dorothy and Salie smiling at the duo. Proud of how it turned out. "Now let's see what we have in our boosters."

"YEAH." Both Chumley and Jaden shouted happily, and with that, the newest modifications on their decks would become far stronger than the others would ever expect.

Syrus walked slowly to the arena, since he was the first one who finalized the modifications of his deck, depending on the student he would go against. The deck level 2 with the new staples he bought would make the duel more fun and even more balanced for him to try to play around the cards. Since he doesn't need to play around the meta...

At the time Syrus opened his booster he was surprised by 8 cards which made him with his mouth wide open.

"Sakuretsu armor, Drain Shield, Machina Fortress, Divine Wrath, Heavy Metal Raiders, Blowback Dragon, Reload, Pot of Avarice." Syrus commented as he was impressed. Those cards were very interesting cards to be used in decks, but surprisingly, he once got cards that would be fitting for his archetype.

And yet before leaving the card store... Salie said there was one last remaining booster, which was the common color type of cards. And at the moment Syrus opened, he never thought it was fitting... because there was a Black Salvo for him and one of the iconic defensive and important cards for Chumley the Des Kangaroo. And while it doesn't have more important cards which he could give to Jaden. The tranquil free spirit duelist seemed completely fine with his deck, and with the cards he gave for him...

Syrus sighed, he knew how much those cards would change the duel in so many ways... yet he just prayed that he and his friends would end the duel as they promised, to give themselves their best and to promote themselves in the future.

Surprisingly, at the time Syrus got in the stadium... he found it empty, with what would be Professor Fountaine herself in the middle of the dueling area.

"Oh hello, Syrus. Welcome to the first practical exam, you got a bit earlier than I expected." The physical Education teacher smiled as the blue-haired Slifer walked towards the teacher.

"Why this whole area is empty?" Syrus asked as from what he remembered at the time Jaden would duel on the exam there would be a huge crowd watching him.

Professor Fontaine tilted her head in confusion.

"What do you mean? Usually, all the duels must be secluded for that way the students would focus better on their way to pass... It doesn't matter who would win or lose, but the performance of their skills in the duel. So that's why we record everything in video and let the teachers and principal evaluate the skills based on what you learned from the Academy." Professor Fontaine explained the points and Syrus nodded his head in understanding. "Nobody would try to make such commotion around the exam unless is a promotion test, which I find difficult for someone to perform in the first exam."

Syrus raised his eyebrow to his teacher. But then remained quiet as he decided to focus on his exam.

"Okay, I'm ready. So how the practical exam would be?" Syrus asked until he found someone walking towards the arena. A black wild-haired boy, and from the annoyance of the blue-haired boy... It was an obelisk student.

"Oh, a Slifer Slacker, man I got the jackpot, this is going be so easy." The Obelisk student grinned, as he walked towards the area with superiority. "Now listen here, slacker. Let me teach you a few things about how this duel is going to be, I'm going to win and you are going to cry, simple like that."

Syrus, remained quiet, unamused by how brat the boy was in front of him... He glanced at Professor Fontaine, who smiled sheepishly at him, before coughing.

"Anyway, this is going to be a duel like most of the duels. You will choose a deck, and have 4000 Life Points. This duel will determine the ways you would develop strategy, and how to deal with most of the duels daily." Professor Fontaine said as she gave a bit of space to the duo.

"Well, this is going to be easy, well what do you think you are going to do boy? Think you can handle me? Are you aware that my blue jacket means I'm Obelisk, and I'm superior like you? As Kaiba would always be superior towards anyone who dueled him?" The boy tried to keep trash-talking, while Syrus rolled his eyes.

"That Swords of Revealing Light option would have had a great effect on more friendly matches." Syrus thought as he wanted the boy to shut up and concentrate on the test.

"Why don't you go running for your friends? They seemed to be always the ones who were going to be the losers of the academy anyway?" The obelisk boy kept trying to provoke a reaction from the bored student.

Syrus tightened his fist and then glanced at the teacher, who remained quiet, and unable to find a way to make it stop. Syrus even glanced at her with his eyebrow raised, asking if she really could not do anything. In response, she shrugged her arms. Which made Syrus sigh loudly.

"Oy, look at me, I'm trash-talking about you. Why don't you take your ridiculous hair out of the field, and let me win for default, that would waste less time for both of us." Then the obelisk student just said it. And at that moment, he knew he caused a reaction.

And Professor Fontaine may have regretted not intervening before. Because of the silver eyes behind those glasses. There was a student who was so furious, that instead of shouting... the boy simply opened his jacket and took a deck from his back pocket.

"I'm going full Kaiba on your ass... and I don't know when I'm going to stop it." Syrus simply just said those words.

It took a few seconds before the student who was supposed to be his opponent started to laugh.

"You, Kaiba my ass? That's why you should leave the trash-talking for the professional boy. Hahahaha. That was so stupid."The blue Obelisk opponent grinned as he took his disk of the duel and with his lights on, he placed his deck and smiled evily at Syrus. "Prepare to get humiliated, I'm going to have so much fun with this."

Syrus remained quiet. He already said what he was supposed to say. More than that he would be leveling on the brat's level, and that's the only thing he doesn't want to do at that moment. Hed just took his glasses off from his face and changed with the one in his pocket.

"Alright boys, I think that's enough." Professor Fontaine finally got her time to intervene. "You both already talked, now it's time to decide who is going to be the first for this practical exam."

"Let me go first. I want to give a little hope for this kid before I show who is the boss of the Academy." The kid bragged as he wanted to have always the last word. Trying to have another reaction from Syrus who remained quiet.

Professor Fontaine sighed... as she could see the Slifer Student wanted nothing more than to finish this test. And she had stalled too much of his patience.

"Alright then, I wish you a good test for both of you. Now you may start." Professor Fontaine said as she gave space while both of the students made their dueling disks on. Syrus proceeded to use his usual way to draw 5 cards, which created a confused expression on both the student and professor. But at the time someone was about to ask, he shook his head... He wasn't in the mood to explain anything. He is going to end the duel.

And from the cards on his hand... he knew that he shouldn't have used that deck... it was unfair to the others... but that's on the prick who made him angry... his deck level 3 is already on the disk, and he already drew his 5 cards...

"DUEL." Both said in unison. As the life points showed nothing more than (Duelist A) LP:4000 / (Duelist B) LP:4000

Syrus noticed that detail, as he could think about why their names weren't on the scores of the arena... But then he realized that since the arena would have dozens if not a hundred of students doing the exam, that would be the obvious way to mark which student would be in each duel.

"Alright slacker, let me teach you the difference of skill between you and me. I'm going to start my turn by summoning Hayabusa Knight in attack position." The student smiled as he could taste the victory on his hands, and with the card placed on the field, he already could see the destruction he would cause on the next turn. At the field, a warrior who seemed to be a humanoid bird wearing armor and a green cape appeared on the field. Which made Syrus stare at the monster like any other monster.

Hayabusa Knight

Attribute: Earth

Types: Warrior/Effect

Level:4

Atk/Def: 1000/700

This card can make a second attack during each Battle Phase.

"You may be wondering, 1000 attack points? He is so weak, why should I be afraid of him?" The obelisk student shrugged as he acted like what any duelist would think. However, Syrus didn't acknowledge his acting... Since he already knew that a monster like Hayabusa Knight usually was used in OTK with equipment cards... "But I'm going to make him in a way that you should be afraid because now I activate Lightning Blade, which allows him to gain 800 ATK. While all WATER monsters lose 500 ATK. So if you have any water monster, you are screwed."

Lightning Sword

Attribute: Spell

Types: Equip Spell

Equip only to a Warrior-Type monster. It gains 800 ATK. All WATER monsters lose 500 ATK.

Hayabusa Knight

1000 - 1800 Atk

"And I'm not done yet. Since I activate the Sword of the dragon's soul. Which allows him to have more 700 ATK, and if you have any dragon monster, if you get attacked by it, your dragon will be destroyed at the end of the Battle Phase." The obelisk student smiled evilly as he could see the possible fear growing up inside of the Slifer Student... who seemed to be still looking unamused by the idea.

Sword of Dragon's Soul

Attribute: Spell

Types: Equip Spell

This card can only be equipped to a Warrior-Type monster. A monster equipped with this card increases its ATK by 700 points. A Dragon-Type monster that battles with the monster equipped with this card is destroyed at the end of the Battle Phase. (Damage calculation is applied normally.)

Hayabusa Knight.

1800 - 2500Atk

Syrus remained in silence, still waiting for the next move from the kid who had been nagging him for so long. And like he predicted the kid didn't shut up.

"Oh, not afraid yet? Well, I have one more card for you to be scared of. Axe of Despair. Now let's see if you are afraid now." The proud Obelisk student paced another card on his spell and trap zone. As the warrior seemed to be holding not just two swords. But also behind his back created a large axe while the face of the bird warrior became like a monstrous bulky hero. "Axe of Despair makes my Hayabusa Knight gainst 1000Attack points which now makes him 3500Atk."

Axe of Despair

Attribute: Spell

Types: Equip Spell

The equipped monster gains 1000 ATK. When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can Tribute 1 monster; place this card on the top of your Deck.

Hayabusa Knight

2500 - 3500Atk.

Professor Fontaine watched as the student from the male Obelisk dormitory acted as if he could be so powerful, and she had to confess that the monster itself seemed to be getting even stronger with time, but from seeing Syrus in silence... she didn't know why, but something was going to happen... something big.

"Oh? Are you so afraid that you are in shock? Well, if you think you can attack my monster, then guess again, because I'm going to activate the Power of Guardians." And just like that around the warrior who was holding so many weapons. There was a light on the ceiling, which made a good Aurora Borealis, and with that showed a blessing that it would make Hayabusa Knight a powerful monster.

Power of the Guardians

Attribute: Spell

Types: Equip Spell

If an attack is declared involving the equipped monster: Place 1 Spell Counter on this card. The equipped monster gains 500 ATK/DEF for each Spell Counter on this card. If the equipped monster would be destroyed by battle or card effect, you can remove 1 Spell Counter from your field, instead.

And with that, all the kid's cards were placed on the field. And with his hands empty, the Obelisk student looked smug at the blue-haired Slifer.

"And now that I created a powerful wall, there is no way that you can defeat me, I will end my turn." The Blue Obelisk then bowed as he felt he should be applauded for his strategy. "Thank you, thank you. Now I want you to try to entertain me with how useless your car..."

"You talk too much. Shut up...It's my turn, draw." The first time Syrus opened his mouth, Professor Fontaine noticed that the eyes of the student she knew were sharper... and his tone was cold as ice. Syrus took a card from the top of his deck, he gave a slight glance. Neither she nor the student knows that he did the same pose in the episode that it would have been so marked in generations as the best Kaiba moment ever. "I predict this duel will end in 4 cards."

Fang of Critias theme played inside of his mind as he could see the looks of surprise and disbelief on their faces.

The way Syrus said it made Professor Fontaine look in surprise.

"What?" The obelisk student asked in disbelief.

"4 cards?" Fontaine asked, as she could see the expression of the blue-haired boy, he didn't seem to be bluffing, and yet the outcome of finishing the duel so quickly, was an exaggeration of how the students go on their duels.

"What the hell are you talking about? My Hayabusa Knight is covered with a power of guardians, there is no way that you could defeat me. You are sputtering nonsense." The obelisk student said as he pointed at the warrior who was still with the combination of all equipment.

But Syrus didn't give an ear for them to be in disbelief.

"1 card. I summon BM4 - Blast Spider in attack position." The moment Syrus said that, he placed the card on his dueling disk which made the professor and the student stare at the sudden mechanical spider appear on the field.

BM-4 Blast Spider

Attribute: Dark

Types: Machine/Effect

Level:4

Atk/Def: 1400/2200

Once per turn: You can target 1 DARK Machine monster you control and 1 face-up card your opponent controls; destroy them. If a monster you control that was originally a DARK Machine destroys an opponent's monster(s) by battle or card effect and sends it to the GY: You can inflict damage to your opponent equal to half the original ATK of 1 of those monsters(s) destroyed and sent to the GY. You can only use this effect of "BM-4 Blast Spider" once per turn.

"What?" The obelisk student stared at the card in surprise, until he heard the voice of the Slifer whom he believed was a slacker.

"Activate effect, I can tribute on a dark monster machine from my field in exchange for destroying one card from your field. I chose BM-4 Blast Spider himself. In exchange for destroying your Hayabusa Knight." Syrus commanded, and the spider was already aiming his lock.

"Hahaha, you are an idiot." The obelisk brat laughed. "Did you forget I have a power of guardians? Each of them will protect him from destruction."

"That if he attacked at least once." Syrus then finished the sentence, which made the student from Obelisk dorm stop and freezes.

"What did you say?" It was at that moment he realized that his Hayabusa Knight was destroyed, and with that all his 4 equipment cards on his spell and trap on the field.

"Like I said, you would have received protection if you had attacked me once... but you wasted it at the moment you chose to have the first turn... SECOND CARD." Syrus shouted which made Professor Fontaine have her eyes wide open, and the Obelisk student finally saw the problem he was in. "I can the special effect of my boss monster. If a face-up Dark Machine monster I control is destroyed I can special summon him from my hand. COME FORWARD DESPERADO BARREL DRAGON."

At that moment Syrus special summoned his boss monster. He could see from the eyes of the arrogant boy, losing the sparkle of smugness, and what remained was... fear.

Desperado Barrel Dragon

Attribute: Dark

Types: Machine/Effect

Level:8

Atk/Def: 2800/2200

If a face-up DARK Machine monster(s) you control is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. Once per turn, during the Battle Phase (Quick Effect): You can toss a coin 3 times; destroy face-up monsters on the field, up to the number of Heads, then if the result is 3 heads, draw 1 card. This card cannot attack the turn this effect is activated. If this card is sent to the GY: You can add 1 Level 7 or lower monster that has a coin tossing effect, from your Deck to your hand.

*ROARRRRRRRRR.* The roaring sounds of the mechanical dragon made both the Obelisk student, but also Professor Fontaine see the true nature of the student who came to the practical exam.

"Battle Phase," Syrus commanded as he pointed towards the Obelisk student who immediately lost his words. "THIRD CARD. I ACTIVATE QUICK SPELL, LIMITER REMOVAL."

Limiter Removal

Attribute: Spell

Types: Quick Spell

Double the ATK of all Machine monsters you currently control, until the end of this turn. During the End Phase of this turn, destroy those monsters.

Desperado Barrel Dragon

2800 - 5600Atk

At the time Syrus activated that card, the Obelisk student finally could see how the duel would end, in his ultimate humiliation. For being defeated by 3 ... 3? Didn't he say it was 4 cards?

"FOURTH CARD. QUICK SPELL, LIMITER REMOVAL" Syrus Roared as the Machine Dragon sparkled like malfunctioning overload, with his weapons aiming directly at the Obelisk student. "TRIGUN, OVERLOAD SHOOOOOOOOOT."

Desperado Barrel Dragon

5600 - 11200Atk.

"11 thousand." Professor Fontaine's sweat dropped from how the polite and yet calm nature of the student she watched working out every single day became such a ruthless duelist in times like that... Someone who pushed his patience on the line... and when crossed... She couldn't help but also feel terrified...

And when the fire was shot, Professor Fontaine had to close her eyes.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH." The loud explosion was enough to make the duel disk vibrate so much that it was like it was burning on the jacket of the said duelist.

The duelist was so surprised by the loud explosion and the wind being so strong, that he couldn't have grip enough to still be on the stadium... no... he was launched away from the explosion...

Syrus was the winner...

Syrus walked slowly in the direction of the student who was on his knees, staring at the floor in disbelief.

"That's impossible, there is no way that I could lose to a Slifer, anyone but a Slifer." The brat kept mumbling as he couldn't believe it. It was not just a loss, it was a one-turn loss. An OTK

"Are you even listening yourself?" Then a voice called him, which made him raise his head. "Did you ever consider that Slifer students were on the red dorm because they are talented in the duel but sucked in written exams? Ever thought about the possibility of dueling Jaden Yuki, the student who defeated your representative of Obelisk Dorm? Did you even learn a lesson when the results ended like this?"

The boy was about to say something but it was interrupted.

"No, you didn't. That's because you guys from Obelisk think of yourselves as highty and Mighty, but when it comes to losing, you blame such things as luck, or because you didn't rest well or saying if you used another deck you would have won, etc... Luck is also a Skill you fool." Syrus commented as he showed the remaining card in his hand. "Card of Sanctity would allow me to take cards until I have 6, but also you. And even if you would have survived one turn... Would you also survive the next one?"

The boy looked like he saw a ghost... And from looking at his deck... He took 6 cards... And it was 6 equip cards, but nothing that would bring a monster on the field.

Syrus noticed his reaction.

"Of course, you say that you Obelisk Blue the representation of Kaiba's mighty... But you are all trash of the trash of the trash. I think even Weevil Underwood would win against you... Without cheating." Syrus went for the kill, he then took the student by the jacket and got him up. "You guys act like you are superior to anyone, but you guys are pissing yourselves scared to go against Zane Trusdale, isn't that right?"

The Obelisk student remained quiet.

"ISN'T THAT RIGHT YOU THIRD RATE DUELIST, WITH A FOURTH RATE DECK?" Syrus shouted angrily, as he could see the mighty Obelisk student was in shame, not wanting to say a word. "Ohh, scared to say, huh? Do you guys think you can't take him? How many styles have you guys tried? 1vs1, 2vs1, 3vs1? 5vs1? Then let me tell you... I can take Zane. Or at least I have the balls to challenge him."

The Obelisk student looked at Syrus as if he was crazy.

"How would be sure? You are just a..." The brat was about to brag until Syrus held his jacket stronger.

"You think I'm going to be a Slifer forever? Oh boy... Then let me tell you something, sooner or later I'm going to be a Ra student... And in the future, I'm going to be an Obelisk. And when I get my steps on that dorm... Ohhh, there are going to be a lot of changes on there, you ungrateful brats." Syrus pushed the student who got his butt on the floor."You are the dirt of the dirt. And put a shame on the Blue Jacket that Kaiba created for the Academy. When Kaiba bragged, it was because he IS SETO MOTHERHUGGER KAIBA. An academy to help teach everyone how to duel, you should have focused that this is a practical exam but instead you thought it was a status flexing. Pathetic. You Obelisk brats are Pathetic."

And with that, Syrus stared at Professor Fontaine who remained quiet, as he raised his eyebrow at her, she smiled and just shrugged, in the same way she did when the brat was trash-talking.

Syrus nodded in acknowledgment and decided to leave while he still had some dignity.

Leaving a humiliated trashed boy, and the professor who remained impartial until the end.

"I lost my cool, for a brat. Great, just great." Syrus was having a fine day, but the kid who kept insisting on trash-talking and didn't take the exam seriously, really angered him. Brats like him tested his patience and his time. "An OTK is the best they could receive. I can't believe I'm having dark thoughts of having a Mystic Mine just to screw them over. God forbid him to ever use a deck like that. He may want to be cruel and petty by using his level 3 Desperado Deck, but even he was grateful that card didn't exist yet. Or it would have a lot of toxic decks around... and just the idea of that would be the worst kind of hell for everyone around. "

"Hey Syrus, what's up?" And then a voice called which made the blue-haired boy pause and then turn his head. Alexis who was in a cheerful mood came to call him for a conversation. "How wa...are you okay?"

Alexis who was cheerful saw the angry face of the Slifer duelist, and his hands tightened to the point he seemed to punch something.

Syrus noticed her reaction.

"Hey Alexis, I'm fine... Just have to deal with a brat who couldn't shut his mouth." Syrus replied with honesty, which received a nod from Alexis.

"A boy from Obelisk dorm I guess?" Alexis asked and Syrus nodded at her. "Yeah, I heard that they can be a handful, but it's not all of them who are like that. I found some good guys from that dorm that seemed very well-spirited and good guys."

Syrus sighed, as he felt calmed from the conversation.

"I hope so... Well at least it's the easiest practical exam I did, how was yours?" Syrus asked, he became happier to see Alexis confident with the smile of a champion.

"I had to deal with a Slifer student who uses a water attribute type of deck. His strongest monster was 2400, so I had to be quick on my feet to make Cyber Blader appear on the field." Alexis smiled, and Syrus nodded his head. "I think with this practical exam we both did well."

And with that Mindy, and then Jasmine appeared, at the time the duo appeared, Syrus was surprised that Jasmine was angry almost like him.

"I'm going to kill him someday, I swear. I'm going to beat the crap of that jerk." Jasmine commented which made Syrus look at her in disbelief. And Alexis sighed.

"What happened? Did you lose the practical duel?" Alexis asked, but Mindy shook her head.

"Actually no... but Jasmine thought it would have ended up a lot sooner," Mindy said as she could see the furious brown-haired girl with her hands ready to strangle someone. "If wasn't for the fact her opponent created a deck to stall everything on the field."

"PABLOOOOOOOOO." Jasmine said in hatred, as she wanted so much to beat the crap of the boy. Syrus didn't know why, but deep inside him there was a groaning headache, like he knew such a name would make him annoyed.

"Oof." Then a voice came near them, which was Hiro who looked like he flinched. "Pablo, damn, sorry to hear about it. His deck is annoying, I remember most of my friends hated to duel him... because his deck is so annoying stall, and yet he trash talk on us Slifers... but he always thinks his patience was the best kind of skill."

"Well, technically he is very patient, maybe it is his skill." Mindy tried to joke around, but she got her shoulders caught by her best friend, and she started shaking her.

"I WANT MY HALF HOUR OF LIFE BACK, HE TOOK MY PRECIOUS TIME FROM ME. I WANT JUSTICE." Jasmine shouted as she angrily was with the Obelisk student, which made Syrus roll his eyes.

"Great, another trash talker Obelisk. I'm thinking that most of them are jerks." Syrus commented, but then Hiro interrupted.

"Oh, Pablo? Yeah, he is a jerk, but don't worry, Nova is my best friend, and he is still the same. Also, the Six Attribute Deck Masters group were fun people to talk to." Hiro commented, which made Jasmine, Alexis, and Mindy raise their eyebrow to them.

"Isn't that the group where Celia is part of?" Jasmine asked and Hiro nodded his head. Jasmine nodded but did her best to not roll her eyes. "Okay, it seems Celia is making good friends."

"Good for her," Mindy clapped her hands happily.

"Anyway, I'm glad everyone here won the duel, assuming your expressions. And sorry about your duel Jasmine, if you want any consolation, the duelist I had was also a jerk and made me very annoyed." Syrus commented as he then made the group stare at him in surprise. "But now that we are here, let's see if we can find Chumley and Jaden around."

And with that, the group explored the corridors and saw if they could find one of their friends around. It took a few minutes but when they were walking around near the Arena. They found Chumley sitting on the floor, he was with his face dark and seemed to have something in his eyes.

"Chumley? Are you okay?" Alexis asked as Syrus walked towards the silent red Slifer duelist.

Chumley remained quiet, but when he saw the concerned look of everyone... He cried... But not from what everyone was expecting.

"I won" Chumley commented, as he was still in shock from how the duel went... "For the first time in years. I won a duel on the exam...against a Blue Obelisk student."

Chumley sniffed, and that statement by itself made Syrus smile widely, Hiro snickers, Alexis and Mindy giggle, and Jasmine rolled her eyes, but with a grin on her face.

"YEAHHHHHHHHHHH." Syrus jumped as he cheered for one of his best friends who managed to pass the challenge. "Alright, we gotta celebrate that. But now I want details, come on... Tell me how it went."

Chumley cleaned up his tears, and seeing that his tiny friend was offering his hand to help to get up, the chubby Slifer got up and without the burden of pressure he had during 3 years studying at the Academy... He felt now like he could fly.

"Well, from what I remember." Chumley decided to explain how it went his duel. "It started like this..."

To be continued.
