Three years have passed since that day, and today was the day I became a new trainer. A lot has changed since then, Ash has left Kalos and Serena left to go to the Hoenn region. I haven't been in contact with Ash and Serena since he became a world champion and became busy. I remember watching the sky turn red when Ash stopped Team Flare on the television. Luckily, I'm not totally alone, I have Braixen by my side. Along with that, Clemont, Bonnie, and Clover still come to visit. Bonnie and I especially grew closer since then. We'd always hang out and watch Pokemon battles, Clemont even allowed me to watch him battle when he took over the gym. We'd both gushed about all of the cute Pokemon; Bonnie's personality had rubbed off on me a little. I wasn't a loud extrovert, but she has influenced me with her liking for cute Pokemon.

My mom always joked about us being a couple, but I never felt that way about her. To me, she was a genuine friend who just loved to hang out and discuss Pokemon.

"Clemont, hurry up, hurry up!" Bonnie cried out, pulling on Clemont's shirt. I looked over at the two in amusement, as Clemont almost tripped over himself. I was waiting for the two by my door, since Bonnie and I are becoming trainers, we decided to do it on the same day. Despite Bonnie being a few months older, we decided to wait until I came of age to become trainers.

"Okay, I'm going! Please, stop pulling!" Clemont pleaded with his younger sister to no avail.

"It's our first day as Pokemon trainers, it's a big deal!" Bonnie yelled. Once she met my eyes, her mouth widened into a grin as she let go of Clemont, "Braint! There you are!" She bolted toward me, leaving Clemont in the dust, "I was going as fast as I could but as usual, my brother is slow as ever."

Bonnie had grown up considerably since they were younger. Her once short, yellow hair now cascaded down her back in loose waves. She still kept her signature side ponytail, now longer and intricately braided, held in place by a familiar yellow clip. Her outfit was stylish yet playful, featuring a black dress adorned with vibrant yellow accents. The pattern on her black pants resembled green pentagons, and her white shoes were decorated with a striking yellow lightning bolt design. Overall, Bonnie looked more grown-up, but still carried her youthful charm.

Clemont caught his breath after he finally reached us, "Don't... Runoff like that... Bonnie."

"I can't help it! Today is a big day!" Bonnie shouted.

"I get it, just please slow down! You're going to give me a heart attack!" Clemont pleaded.

Bonnie's cheeks puffed up in response as she turned her head. I couldn't help but smile in amusement at the situation, even if my scarf was covering my mouth. "Are you ready to go, Bonnie?"

She quit pouting and gave me a wide grin, "Yup! I and Dedenne could hardly sleep last night!" I could hardly wait to get my starter!"

Just as Bonnie called Dedenne's name, the small rodent Pokemon in question peaked out of her bag. "Dedenne!" He said.

"Good to see you Dedenne," I said with a grin.

My mom waved us goodbye as we headed to Professor Sycamore's lab to get Bonnie's starter. Due to me already having Braixen, I didn't need to get one. Though today is the day I get to catch her for real.

Luckily, the Professor's lab isn't too far from where we are, so it was a short walk. I decided to make some small talk as we moved along. "So, Bonnie, what starter will you pick?"

"That's a secret," she said as she put a finger to her mouth.

Clemont looked at her blankly, "Didn't you say that you couldn't decide because you said that they all looked 'so cute?'"

Bonnie's face became red as she started to pout, "Geez! That was supposed to be a secret!"

"I suppose I would have a hard time picking as well. I'd recommend going for a Fennekin." I say, Braixen nodded at my words with a proud smirk on her face.

"That's just biased Braint," Bonnie said as she crossed her arms in a huff. "Honestly, what am I gonna do with you?"

"Well, we can start by opening the doors," I teased.

Bonnie realized that her pouting distracted her from her surroundings and didn't realize we were standing in front of the doors to the Professor's lab.

"O-Oh, r-right," she said sheepishly before opening the doors.

"Welcome, Bonnie and Briant, I've been waiting for you." A voice spoke out. A tall man walked toward us with curly hair and a lab coat. His grey eyes looked at the two of us. He looks up at Clemont, "Ah, it's nice to see you too Clemont."

"It's nice to s-see you too, sir," Clemont says.

He turns back to us, "So, I hear that you two are becoming trainers today."

Bonnie's head jolts up, "Yes sir!"

He chuckles before grabbing a case off of a nearby table. He unlatches the hinges revealing three Pokeballs. He takes all three and throws them in the air. The balls open up and out becomes a Froakie, Fennekin, and Chespin.

"Wow! They're all so cute, I don't even know what I'll pick!" She squeals. All three line up in front of her as they look into her eyes. She stood there for a moment, all three of them anticipating an answer. "Alright, I think I know what to choose. I'd choose all of you if I could, but if I had to pick one..." Her finger shot out and landed on Froakie, "I think I'll choose you, Froakie."

The other two Pokemon seemed disappointed, but since another trainer could choose them, they weren't too disappointed. Froakie on the other hand, looked ecstatic; the Froakie jumped on Bonnie's shoulder as Bonnie giggled.

"Take good care of him from now on," Professor Sycamore says with a chuckle, giving Froakie a gentle pat on the head as he coos. He turns his attention to me, "It seems we haven't met before; my name is Professor Sycamore as you could have guessed." He looks at Braixen with a raised eyebrow, "It appears you already have a starter."

"Y-Yeah, this is Braixen, I found her when she was injured back when I was seven. I made a promise to capture her when I became an official trainer," I explain.

"I see, it seems like you two are close, and trust each other. The bonds between people and Pokemon never cease to amaze me. Well since that is settled, I can give you both your Pokeballs." He turned around and gave us each five small red and white balls. "Here are your Rotom phones as well," he dug through his pockets pulling out an orange and a black phone.

"Wow, my own Rotom phone!" Bonnie exclaimed.

I grabbed the black one, and turned it around, analyzing it. I pressed the 'on button', and the two eyes on the back opened as light emitted on the screen. A map, Pokedex, a camera, a web browser, and an app store were the only pre-downloaded apps.

"I wish you both luck on your journey, wherever you may go!" He exclaims. He sends us off, but not before giving Braixen an item and whispering something in her ear we exit the building. We both stare at the closed doors before Bonnie starts jumping enthusiastically, "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, I'm actually a real Pokemon trainer!" Froakie's feet stumbled, you could see swirls in his eyes.

"B-Bonnie, calm down, you're making Froakie dizzy!" Clemont almost yelled.

"O-Oh, r-right..." Bonnie scratched her cheek. "I'm sorry Froakie," she apologized, earning a sigh from Froakie.

"Briant, you forgot something," Clemont said.

"What do you mean?" I turn around. With a sigh, Braixen taps me on the shoulder with her paw. She walks closer and holds out her paw, revealing a Pokeball. My eyes widened, "You really want me to do this?" I asked hesitantly. It's not like I didn't want to, but it felt too fast for me, it didn't seem real.

Her eyes furrowed as if to say, "Of course, idiot."

With a sigh, I take the Pokeball out of her paws, "You ready?" She nods, giving me an ecstatic smile. I could feel the wind blow between us as everything fades, it was just us two standing there. At this moment, everything felt right. I grab the Pokeball with my right hand, gripping it tightly. I press the button with my index finger, watching it grow twice its current size. I stared at it for a moment, admiring it before turning my attention toward Braixen.

I placed my left foot forward and the other back. I bring my arm back and with a breath, I throw the ball. Braixen closes her eyes with a smile as the ball makes contact. The ball opens up and Braixen turns to white light, getting sucked into the ball. Finally, the ball drops to the ground, shaking once, twice, three times before glowing gold letting out an iconic sound signaling my catch.

"You did it!" Bonnie shouts, snapping me out of my thoughts. She runs up and wraps her arms around me in a tight hug, causing all of my air to leave my body.

"B-Bonnie..." I wheeze as I tap her on my shoulder.

She lets go, giving me an apologetic smile, "Oops..."

"I-It's alright," I say before I approach the Pokeball. "Go, Braixen!" I yelled as the Pokeball opened.

"Brai!" Braixen cried out before rushing over and wrapping her arm around me. I let out a smile as I returned the hug when I heard the snap of a branch.

The last thing I heard was a voice cry out, "Watch out!" before everything went dark.

000

A soft beeping sound echoed throughout the empty space. Over and over, slowly irritating me. As I opened my eyes, a bright white light blinded me. My hands move over my eyes, blocking the harsh rays. Eventually, my eyes adjust, and I can finally get a good look around the room. The room was white with bright fluorescent lights on the ceiling. A heart rate monitor was by my bedside with electrodes strung to my chest.

I tried to move my hand but realized there was an IV tube stuck in my arm. In front was a whiteboard with basic information about me. A click startled me, turning my head, I noticed a nurse walk in. As our eyes locked, she stood still for a moment before rushing toward me. "Oh dear, you're awake!"

"What's happening?" I ask with half-lidded eyes.

"You've been unconscious for three days," she informed me.

My eyes shot open, "Three days!?" I jerked upward only to my feet a large amount of discomfort and pain shot out of my leg.

"Don't move, you might not like this; but your leg is severely broken."

"W-What!?" I almost jerked again but caught myself before I could.

"We have to check a few thoughts and then we'll tell your family you're awake."

A day came and went as they checked up on me, the next day the doors burst open my eyes widened as I saw Bonnie rush into the room followed by an exhausted-looking Clemont. Clover and my mom shuffled close behind as well with anxious faces.

"Briant! You're awake!" Bonnie rushed over and wrapped her arms around causing me to wheeze.

"B-Bonnie, too tight..."

She jumped back, "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! Are you alright?"

I sigh, "Yeah, as good as I can be with this cast." I adjust my pillow as I lie comfortably on my bed.

My mom walked up to me, "I'm so glad you're alright, you worried me sick!"

"Sorry for worrying you; I'll try not to break my legs again," I joked.

She sighed and reached for something in her pocket. It was a familiar red and white ball. "Someone else wanted to see you," she said before throwing the ball up into the air.

"B-Braixen!" Braixen cried out as she jumped up at the sight of me. She rushed over to my bedside and gently wrapped her paws around me.

I laughed, "It's good to see you too Braixen!"

Clover laughed, "She's been worried sick for you. She kept pacing around the room when she wasn't in her Pokeball."

I looked at Braixen, "Oh, I'm sorry I worried you."

"So, I bet you can't wait for you to get back home huh?" My mom smiled.

"You bet!" I smiled joyfully at the thought.

A knock at the door caused us to look over. The doctor came to us, he was a middle-aged man who was on the shorter side. He carried a little clipboard, setting it off to the side with his glasses.

"So, we got some good news and some bad news; any preference?" He asked.

"Um, good news first," I said meekly, nervous about what the bad news will be.

"Well, the good news is that you'll be out of here in a few days." We all sighed in relief; everyone's shoulders slouched.

"So, w-what's the bad news?" my mom asked.

"Well, he won't be able to walk for a few months, and a full six months for a full recovery."

"What!? But I was supposed to go on a journey with Bonnie! You can't be telling me I gotta stay home for that long!" I cried out.

He looked at me apologetically, "I'm sorry, I wish it could be different."

He ran a few small tests and talked to my mom before leaving us in silence.

"So, what's next?" I asked.

"Well, I guess we will have to delay our journey," Bonnie sighed.

My eyes widened, "B-Bonnie, you don't need to do that! You can go on without me, a-and I can join you later after I heal!"

"Nuh-uh, we made a promise to start together, a few months won't kill me," she argued.

"I-I'll be fine, I promise!" I tried to reason, feigning a smile.

She frowned while rolling her eyes, "Yeah, right. Tell that to me when you actually mean it. We made a promise and I intend to keep it."

I sighed, "There's no arguing with you, is there?"

She grinned, "Nope!"

000

"Ugh, I'm so bored! There's nothing to do!" I whined on the couch. It has been a week since then and I was finally home.

"Come on, it's not all bad! We got our Pokemon and I still need to beat you in Mario Kart!" Bonnie said as she gently combed through Braixen's fur.

I groaned before a notification popped up on my phone. I grabbed my phone and my eyes widened, "It's from Ash!"

Bonnie's eyes lit up as she stopped brushing and excitedly dashed toward the couch and snatched my phone, "Oh! Let me see!"

"Hey! I was reading!" I yelled.

Bonnie shrugged, "It says 'Hey, sorry I didn't get back with you! I send my best wishes, sorry you have to delay your journey for a while longer, but I know you'll pull through! Tell everyone I said hello!'" She flipped the phone around to show an image of Ash, Pikachu was on his shoulder holding two fingers while winking.

"Give me that!" I snatched the phone back as Bonnie laughed. I sent him a quick 'thank you' message before exiting the chat. I almost shut my phone off before something caught my eye. Iono's profile sat at the bottom of my contact list, I didn't have many contacts so I could still see hers. While I remain in contact with everyone, she's the only one I haven't. We kept talking until one day, she stopped responding to my messages.

With I sigh, I shut off my phone and turned toward Bonnie who was playing with Froakie while Dedenne sat on her shoulder. "So, what do you want to do?"

She turned toward me while petting Froakie much to his enjoyment, "Well, Clover will be coming here shortly. We're making Poke puffs and macarons, but right now; I'm feeling Mario Kart!"

I smirked, "You're on!" I sat there, while Bonnie continued to play with her pokemon. "Uh, Bonnie?"

"Hm?" She looked at me.

"Y-You'll have to set it up. Remember? Broken leg?" I awkwardly pointed to my leg.

"Oh! Right, I totally forgot!" she said, jumping up and grabbing it from a nearby shelf. After slotting the game in and turning the television on, she scooted on her knees and grabbed two controllers before handing one to me and plopping herself on a nearby chair. "Ready?"

"Yeah," I said as I clicked on my account.

Once we were off to the races on the Star Cup, it quickly became apparent that we would be at this for a while. After ten cups and a clear win ratio of 7 wins out of 10. I look over with a victorious smirk as Bonnie childishly kicks her legs in frustration. "Ugh, it's not fair! How can you win so much at this!?"

I shrug, "It just takes skills."

"Yeah right," she pouts. She opened her mouth before I heard a knocking at the door was heard. Bonnie rushed to the door and flung it open, "Clover, you're here!"

She waved at us, "Hello!" She held up a plastic bag, "I got the stuff!"

"Great, let's get started right away!" Bonnie dashed to the kitchen followed by Froakie.

Clover walked over to me, "How are you feeling?"

I sigh, "Same as ever. And Bonnie's been super helpful!" I said loud enough so Bonnie could hear.

Bonnie pokes her head out behind the kitchen and sticks her tongue out, "Hey, you love it! Now if you'll excuse us, we got Poke puffs and macarons to make!"

Clover chuckles and strolls over to the kitchen. "Yeah, you have fun without me! I'll be here, keeping myself occupied with Braixen! Just save one for me!" I yelled.

"Got it!" She yelled back. Braixen sat next to me and picked up the controller that Bonnie previously had.

"You wanna play?" I ask. She nods with a smirk, and with a sigh, I select the multiplayer option. I didn't understand why she wanted to play, did she even know how to play? Can she even play? "You know how to- 200 cc!?" I looked at them as she pointed toward the 200cc option. Reluctantly I pressed it, and we chose our vehicle. Oddly enough, she seemed confident with the controls, even with one paw.

000

"H-How!?" I yelled, utterly humiliated. Ten wins, ten wins that all went to Braixen. Braixen patted my head and smiled triumphantly. "How are you so good!? This isn't fair!? Even with one hand you- you must be cheating!"

"Oh! Do I hear someone losing!?" Bonnie teased from my kitchen.

"S-Shut up! Go back to making your Poke puffs and macarons... or whatever," I said.

"Well, as you would have it; we're done!" Said as she pulled a tray full of the desert, a wide array of colors and decorations.

My eyes go wide with a newfound hunger, "Oh, can have one?"

She puts her finger to her mouth, pretending to think it over, "Hm, I believe the winner should have first dibs!"

"Oh, come on Bonnie!" I whined. Clover walked out of the kitchen while chuckling, "You'll get yours soon enough."

Braixen happily skipped over to the plate of macarons and grabbed one, shoving it in her mouth. Bonnie grabbed a tray and put a few on it before walking over to me. "Here's one for the sore loser."

I groaned before shoving one in my mouth. The sweaty taste invaded my mouth, calming me in an instant. "Why di' you haf to make thish sho gooood!" I cried with a full mouth.

"Honestly, you're as bad as Bonnie when it comes to food," Clover shakes her head.

I swallowed it down, "I can't help it."

Bonnie reached out for the remote, her fingers just out of reach. Eventually, she gives up and looks at me with an expectant look. Rolling my eyes, I handed her the remote.

"I've been watching this new streamer recently. She's been all the craze recently; she has some cute pokemon too!" Bonnie says.

"A streamer?" I asked, my eyebrow raised.

"Yeah! It's gotten pretty popular recently, even topping Pokevisions," she says as she goes to her subscriptions. I felt something cool touch my cheek, turning my head I saw Clover holding a small glass of ice water.

"Thanks," I smile as I grab the water a take a sip. Turning my attention to the screen, I notice a female figure wearing striking white metallic shoes, a long sock enveloping her entire leg, and a black thigh band on the other. She sports a yellow and black jacket with oversized sleeves, and her hair is styled in prominent twin tails alternating between teal and pink. The front of her hair is fashioned into a large bow, while a teal and a pink Magnemite adorn each side of her head.

She let out an energetic grin, showing her sharp, pointed teeth. "Wow, she looks energetic," I take a sip of my water.

"Ladies and gentlemens! Your eyeballs are MINE - caught in my Electroweb! Whosawhatsit? Iono!" My eyes widened and ended up spitting out the water.

"Are you okay!?" Bonnie asked, concern in her eyes.

"Y-Yeah," I coughed out. "Must be a coincidence."

"-Ciao and bonjour! It's time- Time for the Iono Zone!" Iono said as she twirled around as large holographic letters swirled around her.

"I-Chan!?" I yelled in surprise.

Clover, who was on the nearby chair turned her head to face me, "I-Chan?"

"No way," I muttered. "This is where you've been?"

"Wait, wait, wait! The way you're talking, it sounds like you know her," Bonnie said in surprise.

"Y-Yeah, remember I-Chan, that online friend I had?"

"Yeah," her eyes lit up in realization. "No way! You're telling me you're friends with THE Iono!?"

"Yeah," I sheepishly rubbed my head. "I didn't realize how far ahead she was. We both decided to become streamers together, never ended up happening," I sighed.

Bonnie frowned, "That's a shame, that would have been amazing to see."

"Well, what's stopping you from doing it now?" Clover asked, both our heads turned toward her.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

She shrugged, "Well, just because Iono got a head start and is all the craze doesn't mean you can't become popular too. It's never too late, something I learned a long time ago."

"You think I could do it?" I asked.

"Of course, you just gotta believe in yourself, come on. I'm sure Clemont will have something we could use," she grinned.

"So, it's official?" Bonnie asked.

"Yup," I nodded. "It's time to fulfill my promise."

"I'll get the wheelchair!" Bonnie raised her hand in cheer.

000

We stood outside on a makeshift battlefield. I sat in my wheelchair beside Bonnie while Froakie sat on her shoulder. Staring at the strange orange device in front of me, I looked at Clemont who stood in front of us with a grin of pride.

"Are you sure this will work?" I asked.

Clemont chuckled, adjusting his glasses, "Of course, the future is now, thanks to science! Clemontic gear on! With my 'Record everything at every angle device' anything is possible!"

Bonnie groaned, "Ugh, you're still terrible, just call it a camera drone!"

Clemont, ignoring Bonnie's comment continued, "All I need to do is press this button, all of these drones will fly around, recording the perfect shots! But that's not all, it also monitors your statistics, chat, and much more!"

Bonnie stared at him with a skeptical smirk, "Are you sure it won't just explode?"

He huffs, crossing his arms, muttering to himself, "I've gotten better..."

I coughed, grabbing their attention, "So, when can we give it a test run?"

He smirked, "Right... now!" he pressed the button, causing the drones to fly up in the air. One of them showed a holographic image, displaying all camera angles. "As you can see, they can get multiple shots; they use a complex AI system to find the best ones."

"That's amazing!" My eyes widened.

"So, let's give this a run, shall we?" he grins.

"Alright, are you ready, Bonnie?" I hold my Pokeball out.

"Yup, I'm ready!" she rushes over to her spot, before turning to Froakie. "Are you ready?"

"Froakie!" he nodded, giving a determined glare at me. I grab my scarf, adjusting it before grinning.

"This is our first battle together, let's make it a good one!" Bonnie grinned.

"Alright, we are recording! This is a one-on-one match, the battle will be over when one faints or gives up, are you ready?"

"Ready!" we both say.

"Alright, begin!" he gives a sweeping motion.

"Froakie, I choose you!" she points at me with a grin. Froakie hops down on the ground giving that determined glare.

"Briaxen, you know what to do! Let's evaporate their chances!" I throw out the ball, as Briaxen emerges with a cry.

"That was a terrible line, y'know?" she shakes her head. "Where did you find that?"

"That's for me to know and you to find out! Briaxen, start this with scratch!" I called out as Briaxen lunged forward.

"Froakie, dodge and use pound!" she points at Briaxen.

Braixen swiped at Froakie only for him to leap over Braixen's head, giving it a hit with his hand, causing her to stagger.

"Great, now use bubble!" Bonnie commanded.

"Cancel them with ember!" I watched as Briaxen grabbed her stick, shooting small fireballs that vaporized the bubbles that Froakie shot out. "Now use flame charge!"

Her eyes widened, "Wha- isn't that a bit..." she watched helplessly as Briaxen charged at him at full speed engulfing him in flames. "Froakie!"

As the smoke dimmed down, he stood his ground even with burn marks plastered all over his face. "Froakie may have the type advantage, but Briaxen is at a higher level."

She sighed before looking up with a smirk, "We're not done yet! Use pound once more!"

Froakie jumped over, ready to use his hand once more.

"Dodge it!" I shouted.

She quickly jumped to the right, evading the- "Now!"

Froakie grabbed his frubbles from his back, throwing them at Briaxen's feet and arms. She struggled helplessly as Froakie made his move.

"Use bubble once more!" I watched as bubbles attacked her outside. I knew if this continued, she would lose, I couldn't let that happen. I looked at her for a moment before an idea struck me.

"Braixen, use flame charge!" Briaxen looked over at me like I was insane but didn't refuse.

"What's that gonna do, you can't move!" Bonnie shook her head.

"That wasn't the point!" I watched as Bonnie's eyes widened when the frubbles burned away. "Now, use flamethrower!"

Braixen twirled her stick before flames erupted, engulfing the frubbles. With a mad dash, she charged straight at Froakie as he yelped.

As the smoke cleared, Froakie lay on the ground, unconscious. "Bonnie's Froakie is unable to battle, therefore the winner is Briant!"

"Froakie! Are you alright!?" Bonnie rushed over to him, and he weakly shook his head. Clemont walked over, handing her a Hyper potion which she sprayed over his burns. A few minutes later he happily jumped down.

"That was close, you caught me off guard with his frubbles," I offered my hand which she shook.

"We'll get you next time, just you wait!"

"Everything was caught as well," Clemont stepped down to congratulate us.

000

"That looked incredible!" Bonnie grinned, staring at the final footage that was expertly edited.

Clemont smirked, adjusting his glasses. "Of course, with the power of AI, it makes editing a breeze!" He pressed a few buttons on a holographic keyboard, "Now we just gotta upload it to the site, and done!"

"Imagine all the videos we could record on our adventures!~" Bonnie squealed.

"That's not all, you know." I turned my head to see my mom walking toward us. Her hands dug into her sweater.

"Mom, what are you doing here?" I asked.

"I know you were being bummed about not being able to move much, especially with that wheelchair. So~ I may have made arrangements for you to go somewhere over the year."

"Next year?" Bonnie and I both asked in unison.

She chuckled before pulling out three signed documents. "We're going to Paldea!"

"What!?" We both screeched.

So, it's been a while. College has made it quite difficult to write and edit fanfiction. A lot of writer's block later and I finally got this on [digital] paper! On the bright side, I have a discord server where you can talk about any of my fanfictions or anything really. Anyway, thanks for reading!
