A/N I have changed a lot of ages, and have mentioned which year they will be attending when petunia is a first year.
Petunia knew from the moment she was born, she did not belong. Not with the way her parents would whisper hushed words behind her back.
Her parents did provide her the basic comforts and necessities that one would want but knowing they would never glance at her way, as if death loomed over her. And in a sense it did, Petunia had that look to her, not quite Mysterious per say but more like a child born with misfortune.
As if she was a child born out of misfortune, Petunia had been bitter about that for what felt like her whole existence, and wih good reason.
But she had a particular hatred towards, Lily her younger sister, perfect lily with her fiery red hair, falling in a cascade as she jumped around the house, always being a mischievous brat.
Lily was prone to getting away with things, it came naturally to her. When she lost a ball playing cricket with her friends. She was surrounded by laughs and "it's alright" and the matter was forgotten.
But Petunia, she knew what it felt like to be picked last when the boys would make team, knew the teasing she suffered when they would yank her hair but she never asked for help. She was the elder sister after all. Sometimes the memories would linger their laughter making her feel nauseous as if in a particularly bad dream.
And Lily when she walked, breaths hitched. She knew that once her friends (the very few she had) knew about Lily's existence. They would leave her behind the reason was so simple yet aggravating, people looked towards Lily ... Wanted to look towards her as if she was an alluring siren and they ordinary sailors.
She knew the word siren when that Snape boy - hideous thing he was, petunia thought almost pitifully - had been whispering about that wretched school again, to a giggling Lily.
And that miserable Snape boy, he was so bestowed with Lily it was so painfully obvious except to her sister or maybe she knew, and still kept giving him hope, she never realised that the Lily she knew was so cruel but then who was she to judge when she had such deep hatred for her, a hatred stemmed from her own insecurities deep rooted within her and despite her best efforts always seemed to haunt her.
The Snape boy always casting her aside as a muggle... With so much disdain in his voice that she wanted to curl up in a small ball and perhaps one day she wanted to tell him how it was not her fault, that she was ordinary and not born with magic, a muggle as he had referred to her, a word she had come to hate as much as the boy who said it. And deep down she also feared it, that the normalcy she so adored would never let her become as populous as Lily, who was off to a magic school that is if Severus's words held any truth.
Oh they talked, about that wicked school - Hoggybargs ... Hogbats was it? About the glorious opening feast, a talking hat. Ghosts and everything perfectly unique and although Petunia shouldn't (girls like her weren't meant to go to magic schools and if they were then they were to remain in sidelines gnawing with jealousy untill all that remained were wicked women ready to do anything for revenge) but she still dreamt of her walking in those ancient walls, surrounded by intrigue and secrets.
Petunia was sure, that her hope was false and deep down she knew she would never be special and she had the sudden urge to point fingers most likely towards a red headed girl, but then she thought of Lily how Petunia had been called her a freak, something Lily had become accustomed to her eyes not downcast when Petunia had first said them years ago on the swing when Lily had been eight.
In a sense Severus was Lily's safe escape from her mundane sister, who was mean to her and practically ignored her. Always distancing herself.
Snape was her distraction, who told her sweet nothings and whispered tales of a world of magic deeply intangled with that of those without it.
Lily had once asked him "It is real, isn't it? It's not a joke? Petunia says you're lying to me. Petunia says there isn't a Hogwarts. It is real, isn't it?"
Snape's eyes held so much contempt that she wanted to run away from her hiding spot but decided against it "It's real for us, not for her. But we'll get the letter, you and me." Snape said with finality.
And Lily believed him. Believed that wicked boy, that she was special and Petunia was not.
It would have been a fatal blow to her heart, that is if she had one.
...
When she and lily were still friends, they would play princess. lily was always the princess and Snape the heroic knight. And she petunia just a servant.
And in some sense lily looked like a princess, with her green eyes that shone like jewels, her face was heart shaped and her smile was so dazzling, all perfectly aligned teeth, that were sparkling. Petunia wondered if her sister painted them white in her pass time.
Petunia looked positively shrivelled. Like a child dying from starvation, when she enjoyed cooking. Her legs were too thin and her eyes were carved like slits, her eyes were watery and her hair like a dirty rag waiting to be tossed aside. (The irony she thought to herself)
But Lily, sweet innocent Lily who can do no wrong, was a beautiful girl and would one day turn out to be a beautiful women. But Petunia took pride in one thing, one thing Lily wasn't
Petunia was normal...
She always took comfort in her mundane life, unlike Lily who was convinced she was a witch no wonder the idea instilled by that Snape boy.
She knew him, knew his father, who was found always drunk in the casino gambling all his money - if he had any - that is.
Petunia knew this was a grown up thing, but she loved knowing things.
she always thought how despicably his father behaved, a way no respectable man of his age should.
...
In a sense, Snape could have been called handsome if not for his baggy clothes with tears in them or the fact that his hair were always greasy.
Petunia had a sudden urge to wash them but shooed the thought away, good girls like her were supposed to stay away from boys like that as if it was some kind of unwritten rule.
And then came the day she turned eleven, her parents had made a small cake and called a few kids from the neighborhood including Snape.
She felt that overwhelming bitter feeling again, maa and paa had ordered a cake for Lily's birthday and it wasn't a house party with but one in a small but cozy cafe.
It wasn't fair, petunia scowled to herself. The anger bubbling in her but for the first time not at Lily but her parents.
And what a good excuse they were for that, their eyes were always on lily and whenever someone visited they would boast Lily this Lily that, lily got top marks and how her teachers had told her to prepare for Oxford for the young little girl.
But from the way Lily's eyes gravitated towards Snape, she knew Oxford was not where she was aiming to go.
When someone asked about Petunia they would laugh and say "she'll come around"
But it was Lily who needed strict disciplining, not her or atleast the teachers said so. Petunia always turned her essays timely in her pretty handwriting, not Lily who would write them messily in the cafeteria and would spend classes sleeping.
And then came that stupid letter... But she supposed it made her special in her own way, knowing full well that Snape hadn't expected her to get one, she imagined the shock in his eyes. The look of disdain would have to change now that he knew she was equally... freakish.
Minerva Mcgonnagal, the woman with the pointy hat had came to them to tell them about the wizarding world delivering the letter and how Petunia was a part of it now.
Her parents hadn't believed the woman, thinking it was some sort of scam but then she had looked at them in the eye and changed into a cat, and then there were no questions asked about the legitimacy of the school, Hogwarts it was called she realised.
Mcgonnagal gave her that damned letter, on it lion, a badger, a eagle and a snake were stamped in red colors. She opened the seal with shaky hands.
She didn't want to be a freak.

"Await my owl? but I dont have one!" Petunia exclaimed in horror.
Minerva was about to explain to her looking disinterested but Lily started talking instead.
"We'll go to diagon alley to purchase it won't we, there are loads of shops there Petunia, all magical. Right Mam?" Lily said with such joy that Petunia didn't really feel sad about her interjection that was untill she heard the next words from the elderly witch.
"Well, I must say your knowledge of the wizarding world is quite extensive. I am sure you would make a fine witch."
"You really think so" Lily asked incredously but Petunia thought she might as well say "I am better than my good for nothing sister, who had never shown any magical prowess"
And then the thought hit her "Ms., I have never shown any kind of magic, are you sure there isn't a mistake?" she gulped dreading the answer, it would be even more embarassing if she she got the later and was not a freak...
"I assure you Ms. Evans you are a witch. I am sure you will be a good addition to Hogwarts" she said but they lacked the sincerity with which she had same the words to Lily.
Then she turned over to the second page reading the words carefully.

She wondered why she needed a broomstick, her eyes swirled as she noticed the strange words on the page wanting to ask everything about the strange world but decided against it.
She numbly nodded when Mcgonnagal announced she would be back tomorrow to show them around diagon alley but Lily had interjected "What about Severus, I promised I'll accompany him" she shouted in distress.
And being the darling daughter she was, her mother immediately asked Mcgonnagal who didn't seem offended at all - would it be alright for them to go with Snape's mum?
...
Her parents were paying much more attention to her than they had ever.
Her mother Daisy Evans was extremely beautiful, and it seemed Lily had inherited everything from her including but not limited to her shirt stature, green eyes and flaming red hair.
His father, Harry was a lean man, he had blonde hair ... his jawline was defined and he had an unusually long neck, and how could she forget his eyes, his watery blue eyes that laid his soul bare for interpretation but then again petunia had always been good at reading people. She supposed he was a good looking man but as a female he would look horrible and that was how Petunia looked.
His eyes still held the same disinterest but atleast he was trying to engage in a conversation with her.
She supposed it was nice, knowing that her maa and paa were looking at her like realising what a grave mistake they had made ignoring her for their younger daughter.
But a small part of her whispered that if she wasn't a witch... She would have been cast aside, something that has already happened once.
And then Lily had asked so many questions begging her that she would allow her to read her books and send information about Hogwarts.
And for the first time it was not petunia but lily, who was green with envy.
It was a nice feeling, a voice whispered in the back of her head.
...
They had been walking for ages, when they finally stood in front of a line that her parents couldn't notice.
It was dark and shabby and made Petunia squirm uncomfortably, they didn't pay much attention to it and went in front of a brick walls, a few cigarette butts on the ground.
Eileen approached the wall and started tapping it with a long stick, that was bent a little. Finally the brick walls opened wider and wider untill petunia was sure it was passage.
"Welcome to Diagon Alley" Eileen grinned wolfishly.
Her parents watched in awe and Lily jumped up and down excitedly even Snape looked happy. Petunia herself was very impressed although did not show it maintaining a stoic composure.
However she wasn't able to be emotionless to Severus snape's reaction of her being a witch it was far more hilarious than she could have ever anticipated.
He was staring at her, mouth agape unable to close it properly. The smug smile that formed on her lips was real.
Back to the Moment, Eileen Snape, the boy's mother was a woman of tall stature. She looked elegant even in the dirtbag for a dress she was wearing and Petunia admired her instantly although didn't understand why she hadn't left her good for nothing 'husband'.
If Eileen understood what she was thinking, she made no effort to say anything.
"We'll start by going to Gringotts" when she noticed the looks of confusion on the faces of the Evans except for lily, she hastily added
"Which is the wizarding bank, you can exchange muggle money to magical one"
Petunia nodded in understanding, that did make sense however she was trying not to get her hopes up. Knowing herself she is probably rubbish at magic and knowing Lily quite well, (tho she would never admit it) she understood Lily will be a damn good witch and she won't be able to do anything about it.
Because as usual she will be watching from the shadows. Shaking the thoughts, she noticed they were standing in front of tall snow white building made out of marble.
"I will access my vault from her, meanwhile you can go on and convert yourself some money" Eileen said a bit defensively.
Petunia wondered how did she even has her own vault, knowing that Snape was dirt poor.
But when they were exchanging currency (By a goblin, she watched a bit disgusted but also curious) they quickly realised a magical education was quite expensive, if they wanted both their daughters to attend then they will have to purchase everything second hand.
Petunia had nothing against second hand stuff as long as it was functional but Lily had started speaking again,
"But Petunia should have new stuff, besides I can take her old stuff anyways, except for her robes but thats because tuney is so tall"
Petunia came to realise that her sister loved her despite everything and even though the same couldn't be said for Petunia who was so deep in her insecurities she still felt touched and gave her a small smile to which Lily cheekily gave her a thumbs up.
Eileen has already come back with Snape who looked happy for some reason (It didn't suit him, petunia thought darkly)
When they had walked to Gringotts she was distracted by her own thoughts but now that she saw the bustling street she understood why lily was so desperately holding to the idea of another world. It was the epitome of magic, the shops hold owls and all kind of witchy animals.
And a boy with glasses, was pressing his face to the window of a shop. Petunia realised it was a broom.
they made their first visit to Madam Malkins, where they got her dress robes fitted.
Madam Malkin was a squat, smiling witch dressed all in mauve.
"Hogwarts, dear?" she said, when she noticed Petunia and Snape and for some reason Lily who had trailed behind.
"Got the lot here – another young lady's being fitted up just now"
Petunia nodded weakly and noticed a haughty witch, she had long blonde almost platinum hair but unlike Petunia it actually looked good on her.
"Are you a first year too, assuming you are attending Hogwarts" the witch said, her voice was posh and judging by her composure she was important, and knew it too.
"Yeah, I am" Petunia's voice wasn't as rich but she sounded confident much to her suprise"
"Who was that boy you were with earlier" she inquired.
"Oh, that's Severus Snape, he is a close family friend" Petunia noticed he was not here perhaps there were different counters for boys and girls.
"Snape? I haven't heard that name, is he muggle born?" She asked and Petunia didn't notice the disdain in her voice.
"Her mum's a witch. Her name is Eileen Prince" she replied not knowing what to say about his father.
She realised she hadn't asked the witch's name and quickly asked her resulting in her narrowing her eyes slightly as if suspicious of something.
"Narcissa Black" she leaned in a bit as if expecting some kind of recognition.
"That's a nice name, my name is -" but before she could say anything, she realised her fitting has been done she quickly hopped from the stool and exited the store after her mum has purchased the robes ofcourse.
They skimmed through a galaxy of shops, getting books and lily sneakily added one of her own. Petunia noticed but simply said nothing.
Snape and she went surprisingly along, petunia even enjoyed his company but found it creepy that he was still acting like a lovesick child. (He sister was ten! She wanted to say)
They went through a dozen of more shops untill they were finally left with the wand.
"Ollivander is a bit overwhelming..." Severus strangely added when they went inside.
It was a tiny place and Petunia found herself on high alert. Ollivander immediately noticed Eileen and started ranting some gibberish which Petunia half - heartedly tried to pay attention to but couldn't.
Severus went first, the first wand he touched did nothing, it took him about thirteen tries (yes, she counted them) before he finally found one.
"Ebony, a triple core: a phoenix tailfeather and the heartstrings of a Romanian ridgeback and a kelpie, powerful, very powerful. Any other wizard wouldn't have been able to control it"
Then ollivander turned towards her "I suppose you are a muggle born" his voice held no contempt but merely intrigue
Petunia nodded and before she knew it, a pile of wands have formed behind her. Ollivander did not seem disappointed by her and infact grew more excited.
"Perhaps, something a bit more powerful" he mused to himself and quickly went to ge back if a shelve.
"Yew, eleven and a half inches with Thestral hair, very flexible." He added giving her the wand
She felt a little tingle in her hand, it wasn't much but it was there. A few sparkles shot from her wand unlike Snape who made powerful display of magic.
She knew at that moment she would be rubbish at magic.
"I suppose this one it is, very efficient in the dark arts should you ever sway towards them" Ollivander's voice held a warning.
Petunia nodded lamely and quickly exited the store after paying him five galleons.
Her parents and father were outside waiting for them, having brought some icecream. Snape held it in his hands like he never quite have eaten sweets... Her heart tugged with sympathy before she pushed the thought. He hated sympathy and she knew it.
They quickly reached home, having came from her parents car (Lily's insistence of the floo powder were ignored much to her pleasure) the car ride was spent in silence and Petunia had the time to sort her thoughts.
At one hand she always wanted to be normal and her only demand was taken away from her and now she was a freak.
Although she actually enjoyed the trip and was even excited. She felt like she had fun in a long time.
In the end she decided only time will tell if she liked magic or not.
When they had arrived home she quickly jumped out of the door, her mother shouted at her from a distance she ignored her and after a while ate some snacks and jumped in her cozy blanket, tired from the evening she immediately fell asleep knowing the next day held something even more important.
So, was it good, bad? comments are always appreciated.
