"…and this is your auntie Jeanne."
One of the pleasures of being inside of Argus was that team JNPR finally gets to meet one of Jaune's sisters and said sister's wife. It had been one of the things that he had looked forward to. Jaune was proud of his team and wanted to introduce his family to them. Other than that, there was also the matter of Jeanne, the Arc family's eight sister. It had to be done, Jaune felt compelled that it was his duty.
Everyone else had be courteous enough at least but Jeanne, at the sound of being called auntie and knowing more of her siblings of this world, was absolutely giddy about Adrian Cotta-Arc. The baby, understandably, wasn't approaching her at first being some stranger but the familiarity of that blonde hair of theirs made it so that the little baby warmed up to her new auntie.
While those that they had accompanied had been provided for with temporary lodgings and homes, team JNPR and Oscar had their stay in the Terra-Cotta home. It looked rather lonely at first given the space it had compared to the number of occupants but since the Arc family was large, such structures had that in mind.
"Feel free to pick your own room," said the woman named Saphron Cotta-Arc. Being the biological sibling, she too had blonde hair and out of all of Jaune's sisters, it was her that he looked up to the most.
Saphron's wife, Terra, was absent at the moment. Being assigned as the technician to the booster tower here in Argus and playing messenger for any word regarding those from Atlas. It was there that they received any sort of news relating to the outside world.
The one night that Terra had been home, team JNPR had been brought to speed on the Atlas side of things. They had been pushing back against the Grimm though their numbers were still quite great that traveling outside of their borders was risky. Even then, there was no guarantee that they would see an entire fleet. A small force at best was what they were hoping for.
Since then, JNPR had focused their efforts here on Argus. Food was not much of an issue with Jaune's new gift of insight. The port-city was turning into a seafood haven with the variety and amount of fish that they were getting. Oscar's experience had been a huge help as well as a portion of the city had been converted for farming. The worth of it would be more long term as any crops that would be grown here would take weeks, maybe even months depending on the crop. Not that they had experienced any of that yet; they've only been there for days at best.
Ren and Nora were hard at work at the soup kitchen that have been provided for all of them to use. The Argus military had their own location but they eventually moved here given that the food was simply served better than what rations that was being served at their own base. Apparently, there was a strictness to it and no one was certain whether that was to keep up some sort of appearance or a dedication to the floating kingdom.
Food rarely seemed to run scarce here. Just when they were certain that the day would be the last of their supplies, the found just enough for the next come the following morning. The fishermen that had been with Jaune were doubtful of his clairvoyance on the bountifulness of fish at first but they too soon followed without question and Jaune, thanks to Jeanne, always insisted that it was someone else who had been providing them this guidance; he was merely in servitude of this someone else.
"It isn't you should be thanking." Jaune had it as a script by this point. "It's Him. Ask Jeanne since I don't know much myself. I'm only doing what He wanted me to do… I think. I hope."
If Jeanne hadn't been known as the Holy Maiden before, she most certainly was now. Happily talking and practically preaching tales and stories that Jaune was sure she had grown up with in that life of hers. She was bringing that here. Tales that none of these of people have heard and were certainly mesmerized by. Jaune recognized some of them for he had been doing similar things as well.
Is that why I can do this now? He thought to himself. He wasn't about to complain, he was doing good work here and the knowledge of such was enough for him to accept it. Save that of knowing that I do your most Holy Will, I think Jeanne said that those words came after her time? Man, that world she comes from must be weird.
There was the case of having no Grimm there as well, Jaune couldn't picture that having lived with the idea that monsters lurked outside the walls at any given time. The thought of there being a place without Grimm just felt that it should be peaceful to him. Though, from Jeanne's retelling, it wasn't quite the case there either.
Still Jeanne spent more time telling of the ones that is better suited for these people. Namely, the one where this person was doing the same thing that Jaune was doing. He had been told that the person was important but he hadn't quite grasped that quite yet, he'll have to ask more if they got time.
Like we're getting that. He shook his head. Even if everything had been settled here, team JNPR would have to get to the next place once Argus is fully secure. It technically already is but they don't have a ride out of Argus and none of them could travel across the ocean that quickly either.
From the inside, one wouldn't think that Argus was under siege. Sure there were signs of damage and hurt, the torn and dirtied clothes of those who survived were certainly proof of that. But it was much closer to those that had been hurt before and are currently in the process of healing; one could even hear a few songs being sung here. Most were gibberish and made on the spot, primarily made by children and they were absolutely welcome.

It is on the outside of Argus that one could see that Argus hadn't been made exempt from the Grimm attacks. In contrast to the sight on one side of the walls, the others side had much of the landscapes spotted with black. Grimm continued to throw themselves at the walls. The huntsmen and huntresses that had once been students were practically licensed now by experience alone while those among the civilian populace had their auras unlocked and are slowly training themselves to be the equivalent of the below average soldier-in-training; they are capable now of defending themselves and others from the common fodder Grimm.
The fights never stopped but they have become distant. It was becoming safe that Argus could open their own gates, allowing the defenders to march out safely and deal with any oncoming Grimm. Dust supplies had been redistributed primarily for power of their infrastructures, making all huntsmen and huntresses rely more on the melee of their weapons.
With Raven and Jeanne around, such skirmishes never grew to be more than that. The presence of two Maidens certainly helped. Raven was like a cloud providing shade, contrasting Jeanne being a light in the night.
"Are you sure that you don't need sleep?" asked Saphron. Jeanne was holding Adrian who was standing on her lap, playing with his new auntie's ears.
"I technically don't need it," she assured her. "Never really needed to. But if it helps everyone else, I do sleep during the day." More of a nap really but it is enough to keep up appearances.
"Well, I'm glad that to have you here," Saphron replied. "Not just here in Argus but for looking for my—our little brother."
Jeanne smiled at that. She wondered if she would actually meet the rest of her family.
She wondered if any of them were like her brothers. With how many there were in the Arc family, there probably was one or two.
The door opened and Jaune came in. Predictably, he smelled of seawater and fish. It had been a common scent from him by now. He wasn't even wearing that knightly armor much anymore, not the greaves and sabatons anyway, for it had been replaced with the attire more fitting of a sailor.
Of course, he had to stay out for a while to dry off. Seawater had quite a scent here and nobody wanted to have that for any longer than it needed to. Jaune had to use a hose just to replace that seawater with more fresh water.
"Yeah, I'm not taking my showers there," he had reasoned. "There's just something better when its homelier."
Jeanne rolled her eyes and continued to play with Adrian. The child could walk a bit already though needed a hand as he didn't have much in the way of balance yet; it was much closer to watching a drunk trying to walk really. Wherever Adrian went, Jeanne followed. It kept like this until the little baby was tired enough that it had to go to sleep. Saphron had taken over by then, leaving Jeanne to be free.
"So," Jaune said, stepping out of the shower. "I don't think I need to ask about Adrian, but how about Saph?"
"Saphron is nice," she replied. "The cute little baby brother just wanted to be like his big sister, she said."
"Hey, I'm not a baby." He gestured towards the general direction of Adrian; they already left. "That was a baby."
"You're not." It didn't stop the amusement from decorating her face. "You're just a miracle worker now."
Jaune rolled his eyes and put on his clothes. Jeanne had turned away for this and until he said he was done.
"By the way," she asked. "What kind of fish we having for dinner?" There hadn't been much other than seafood as the main dish. There was the occasional vegetable but fish had always been the go-to here in Argus nowadays.
"I think we had tuna," Jaune said. "Oh and Oscar said that there might something with the crops. With the supplies not being the issue that we initially thought, we're starting to get more out of our harvests. I'd say that it was a goldmine that Oscar managed to find ground that fertile but I'm beginning to think that it is not the case."
"Not ever since you and I went there, nope." Jeanne shook her head.
The two of them then exited the room.
Adrian had already been asleep in a separate room while Ren, Nora, and Oscar were still absent. There was still some light out before the day would be over. It was a strange feeling for them, living such a domestic life, knowing that just outside the walls, there were monsters flinging themselves at the walls. While the other kingdoms were most definitely in need, the air was still rather unstable. Even with two Maidens, the skies wouldn't be so easily cleared. That and there was no airship for them to take here and they weren't about to steal from the base either; it was more out of goodwill and trust.
As they are, they spent their days mainly on the rebuilding process with most of the people here resettling in Argus. Homes and shelters were being built and life was returning to a sense of normalcy here in the port-city.
Night had come and with it, so too did the rest of team JNPR, along with Oscar.
Ren, Nora, Pyrrha, and Oscar all went to bed and called it a day, leaving Jaune and Jeanne the last two. It had been like this since they had essentially settled down a bit here in Argus. With Jeanne taking the night shift, Jaune had taken upon himself to escort her as any brother would. While it was doubtful that anyone would try anything with her here, Jeanne was family now and that is all that he needed to be there.
The night sky above them was of a dark blue color with dark figures flying across the heavenly canvas. The stars and the shattered pieces of Remnant's moon dotted above them. A serene and calming presence as the rest of Argus were asleep.
Occasionally, one could hear the sound of the hum of a heater as soldiers and huntsmen gathered around them for both light and heat. Not one other person could be seen outside of this except for Jaune.
Passing by the different buildings, Jaune could not help but feel satisfied in knowing that he was doing the right thing. It may not be the kind of hero or warrior that his ancestors were but no one could ever tell him that he wasn't some a hero like them here. There was always more to a warrior than simply fighting the Grimm, he learned that as far back as Beacon.
Towards that same road that he and Jeanne had always taken, the sight of those people still up at this hour at the comfort of their temporary homes lifted his spirit. The Grimm hadn't touched this place since and Argus had become a haven of sorts, perhaps even the only one thus far in Remnant.
The thought of that made his heart heavy.
"What's wrong?" Jeanne didn't miss that change in him.
"I just…" Jaune took his time to find his words. "I was just thinking about the others you know?"
"Team RWBY?"
"Yeah."
Jeanne made no reassurances. There was nothing that she could say that would ease his concerns. She knew that and thusly kept quiet.
Instead, she said, "once we're secure here, with Atlas. We're making our own way back to Vale."
"How would we even do that?"
"I don't know yet, but we'll find a way somehow. Have faith."
Jaune chuckled. "That's something I never thought I would actually have." He looked at the palms of his hands. "Odd that I have been chosen for some reason. There isn't a prophecy or anything that I know."
"It doesn't have to be," Jeanne replied.
"I just don't think I am worthy you know?"
Jeanne placed a hand on his shoulder. "It's not that you are worthy to be chosen. He doesn't choose those who are worthy, He makes the chosen worthy."
"Right, you were a peasant before you become this great figure in this world of yours."
"I'm not talking about me, Jaune." She shook her head. "There are many, and I mean many, others that were like that before me and certainly after as well."
They continued on in silence. The walls grew larger as they approached.
Then, Jaune spoke again. "Hey Jeanne, when this is all over, do you think that we'll ever see each other again?"
"What do you mean?"
"Remember back in Beacon, about how with you being a familiar might have worked with the Maiden powers?"
"A Heroic Spirit," Jeanne guessed. "You want to know if you'll ever become one?"
Jaune nodded. "If that ever happens, will I—or rather will that version of me even remember any of this?"
"I do not know." She shook her head sadly. "Maybe? That is if I am ever summoned again and you as well. Why?"
"Just thinking of when this would be over. What next? Seems like this would be the last big thing that would happen to Remnant. After that, it's just the mindless Grimm after that. There will be lots to do afterwards, don't get me wrong, but this would be the big thing for a lifetime."
"Perhaps there will be, in another place," Jeanne replied. "We're here."
Raven Branwen had been there and at the sight of them, left her post.
"Good night, Jaune," she said.
"Night, Jeanne, and stay safe, alright?" he replied.
"Of course."
Jeanne began her shift as she always had. Sitting on her chair, there was a torch there in place of the heater.
She shook her head. Life in the Branwen tribe must have accustomed Raven to this sort of life that the comforts of the city is uncomfortable. She could relate to that to some extent. That life as part of the army wasn't always going to have the most luxurious of beds. Feet were often blistered and in pain if their backs weren't hurting from the horses.
Looking upward, her thoughts lingered on her brother's words. Would they actually meet again? Even if they did, would that version of her remember any version of him? The chances of that happening were small, unlikely. Yet, it had been unlikely that Jaune would be able to do what he is doing now.
"Let you Will be done," she said. "Not mine."
Over the horizon, the lights of the night sky illumine the world below. There was hardly any Grimm in sight. Any shadowy shape that she could make out could just as easily be mistaken for some woodland creature or animal rather than Grimm.
Following the source of that light, Jeanne turned upward to the nightly heavens that looked down upon her. Somewhere out there, the place that she had come from just might be among them. She could never be sure for Remnant had yet to reach beyond the veil of their own place. It was a miracle at all that she managed to get here and that had been because of the peculiar connection that she had to Jaune.
What will happen afterwards? She thought. There is still the matter of that woman I had visions about, too.
Jeanne continued to watch over the horizon. The dull peace of the night stayed until the early hours of the morning. She wasn't at all tired as was expected of her but she was still made to rest. She may be Jaune's older sister but she wasn't that for Saphron.
When she did, her thoughts lingered on that woman from her visions. Maybe headmaster Ozpin knows something about her.
AN: It was in writing this chapter that I learned that Jeanne (the historical one) had brothers.
