Yeah...
To those who've recalled the last few times I've used such a title? You likely already know what's going on, so I'm not gonna repeat myself on that end since this is indeed something along those lines, so my apologies to everyone who had hoped this had been an actual update. Especially cause I was quite this year.
HOWEVER!
Unlike those last few times, this update notice is going to be very different, because what I'm about to announce is something on a completely different level. Just to emphasize this fact? I have the following things to say in advance:
READING IS ENCOURAGED!
This Update will NOT be deleted unless I add a new one to the first chapter or delete the story.
Seriously, I'm not kidding. Not reading this means you'll have no idea of my plans for the future
Are you ready?
Now that I've gotten all of that out of the way, it's time to finally reveal the big news, and I mean big because everything related to how I do my writing will change. The reason I'm saying this is because...
As of this year, I will no longer be updating any of my stories here on FFN, for I'm moving to Archive of Our Own full time!
*hears a chorus of gasps*
Yeah, that's the big news
I know the first thing some of you are thinking of, provided that you've seen some instance of another author's claims that they'll be leaving here for similar reasons. Before I say anything else, I'm going to clarify that I am NOT leaving for some of the more common reasons you've likely run into. Truth is that I've actually been considering this for quite a while now, but only recently did I decide that AO3 just works out better for me in the long run, and the reasons for this? Well, when I first started on AO3, it was primarily (though not only) to put up all of my discontinued works since a few people still liked reading them.
However, in the years since I've been there, I've actually learned more on what I can do there.
The ability to make series, some additional options with text and formatting, and the ability to see every chapter at once in case I need to find something like a contradiction that's harder to spot if I had to look through each chapter one by one all slowly endeared me to AO3, but it wasn't enough for me to consider a full jump over since there were still a few things here that made it more effective for me to simply cross-post and have AO3 exclusive content.
However, now I've found something on AO3 that has fully won me over, but only because something here on FFN has finally left me sighing enough that it's best for me to finally make the jump.
In the case of the former? It's the ability to show actual pictures! The sense of liberation I feel at the thought of actually showing them in my stories is one that I can't ignore, since I've always struggled with is describing clothes or describing the action in a particular moment. There's a lot more to it than either of those examples, but I'm not sure how to say it without going off on a tangent.
While in the case of the latter? Well... sometimes nostalgia hurts more than helps.
I ultimately started asking myself what's even keeping me here? In the end, my answer to that was... that I don't have one. There is literally no reason that I can think of for why I'd continue here.
Now, don't misunderstand me, I'm not going to leave here entirely. I'm just not going to update over here. In fact, the versions here might just disappear, but I haven't made my mind on that just yet. At most I'll be using the DocX feature to help with any stories I'm co-writing or PMs for questions that end up in spoiler territory, as AO3 doesn't have such an option at the moment, if ever.
Ultimately, there's another reason I've made this choice unrelated to both sites.
I feel the need to make a fresh start to fully get myself out of a rut I've felt that I've gotten stuck in since my burnout, one that has made me go from on and off in when I've been able to write. The main point in writing is for authors to feel happy about the art they've created and if they aren't feeling happy... why are they even writing? And for me, I feel that there's just more options waiting for me over on AO3, because there's a lot more I'd like to do with my stories that I feel I'm unable to accomplish here.
There's still a lot more I'd like to say, but this is already getting long enough, so if you've already followed along for this long? You can find the half tied to what will happen as a result of this move on the AO3 versions of these stories since it's going to be my main hub once the full transition is finally complete.
For those who will still be seeing me over on AO3? Thank you for understanding, and I hope to see you all again soon. For those that won't be... I thank all of you for sticking with me all this time.
So, here's my final gift to you, my last preview scene for this story, and with that said...
Thanks for all the memories these last few years, and for always staying awesome! T^T
Rias was shown rushing over to the Student Council's office, knowing what she had just seen was beyond her ability to process and understand on her own. It was probably incredibly rude of her to do this as she was, but when one considered the discover she had just made, she was certain she'd get a pass.
It was as said thoughts were finished that she finally made it, and nearly ripped the door open as she began panting from her recent sprint.
"Sona!" She exclaimed.
The name of the girl she called had briefly looked up before returning her gaze to the paperwork currently organized on her desk, motioning her free hand in way that told Rias to sit down. Rias did exactly that, taking a moment to catch her lost breath before she continued from where she had just started.
"Apologies for rushing in when you look so busy." She began.
"I don't just look busy, I am busy. Whatever drove you to rush in her like someone turned a horror movie's villain to life better be important." She answered.
Rias breathed in before she exhaled.
"My peerage and I... for the last two years, we've been decoding a message left by Cleria Belial, her last memoir about the true reason she fled Kuoh Town and I inherited her position." She revealed, closing her eyes as she dropped the bomb.
A snap was heard as the tip of Sona's pen broke. She looked up at Rias, the look of shock on her face now evident.
"Please now I'm saying this is the kindest way possible, but Rias? That kind of claim is a dangerous one." She warned.
"Yeah, and that's why I have proof." Rias agreed.
She took out the damaged Queen piece of Cleria's, and then formed a magic circle underneath it as Cleria's magical recording revealed itself from it once again, making Sona's eyes widen.
"To my successor who finds this message and the means to reveal it, I ask you to listen closely... for this is the truth about my departure. My reason for leaving hidden among the lies of-"
And at that moment, Sona's face contorted with horror.
What she was hearing right at this moment was just...
"A granddaughter? They actually have one, and people are actually trying to kill them? What the hell is this!?" Sona questioned, feeling her hands shake in currently folded position.
"I honestly can't say, but on the day Zekram gave me my position, I noticed the way he was trying to talk with me had some... questionable signals. Almost threatening." Rias admitted.
"So you don't even know if he was baiting you or not?" Sona asked.
"No, but between him and Runeas' actions?" Rias nervously replied.
"Then as much as I'd like to say otherwise... you made the right call letting me know about this." Sona sighed.
The two were silent for a moment.
"So, I guess now the bigger question is who Cleria was talking about? The one who can safely get her home?" She asked.
"Despite that part of the message was unclear out of a chance the wrong person might find it? I have a lead." Rias revealed.
That got Sona's attention as Rias held her hand out.
The sight of gold and silver shavings appeared in it.
"Metallic shavings? Wait, in alchemy, gold and silver are good links to the sun and moon, the latter fitting a Devil Princess well." Sona started to realize.
"And if we take that into account, plus something else Kuroka found..." Rias added.
She then formed another magic circle in her other hand to reveal a kind of string used om necklaces.
"We just need to find the sun she's paired with."
